According to current cognitive psychology and neuroscience understanding, our memories are multilayered constructs composed of personal experiences and information acquired from external sources. So, when questioning witnesses about their recollections, it's crucial to understand what those layers are made up of. Is it purely personal recollection? Does it include what they were told by others? Does it include what they were told when their lawyer prepped them for the deposition? Examining the underlying sources or layers of the deponent's knowledge helps identify the individuals and documents that influenced and possibly biased what the witness says.Be sure to click through to our home page if you don't see the complete list of cites in the show notes. In episode 391, Wes Palmisano joins The Construction Leadership Podcast from New Orleans to talk about how renegade thinking drives revolutionary results. For over a decade, Wes has pursued a new vision of the construction industry through his collective of brands and initiatives. Wes launched Palmisano Construction in 2013 with 11 team members and the company's signature renegade style and cultivation of a culture where everyone could make and break the mold. With the company's success and growth in subsequent years, Wes pushed the envelope further. Over the following decade, WJP's strategy continued to evolve through new ventures in construction, investment, innovation, leadership cultivation, and real estate development—pursuing a vertical integration of service offerings that influence the construction lifecycle and continue applying its renegade approach. Growing his small team to over 260 people, Palmisano Construction looked to align its name with its visionary ethos—rebranding as RNGD and expanding its presence to new markets: Nashville, TN and Huntsville, AL. As a New Orleans native, Wesley grew up in a construction family. Inspired by their commitment to service—beginning with his grandfather, WWII veteran and founder of W.J. Palmisano Contractors, Warren Palmisano Sr.—Wesley looked to follow in their footsteps with his own vision. He earned a four-year Construction Management degree in three years at Louisiana State University, graduating Summa Cum Laude. Before launching WJP, he directly applied his background, education, expertise, and unique insight to over a decade of work, building and managing large-scale construction projects. https://rngd.com You can view clips from this episode on our YouTube channel: https://www.youtube.com/@bradleyhartmannandco This episode is brought to you by The Simple Sales Pipeline® —the most efficient way to organize and value any construction sales rep's roster of customers and prospects in under 30 minutes once every 30 days. *** If you enjoyed this podcast, please leave a review on Apple Podcasts. Does your company have a strategy for working with investors?Whether your company is big or small, IBM's former CEO Sam Palmisano says it's essential to build relationships with your shareholders before there's a specific problem to address. In this episode, you'll learn how to communicate with your investors to meet their needs — without needing to change your strategy. When Palmisano was leading IBM, he offered investors detailed multi-year projections of revenue growth, rather than quarterly outlooks. This approach helped to keep the company's focus on the long term. As he describes, “We needed to give [investors] something that worked for us and our management system and our strategy, but also was simpler and clearer so they could decide what investments they would like to make.”You'll also learn how Palmisano approached his role as CEO in shareholder meetings in order to send the right message to both shareholders and employees. A single parent, Raffaella Palmisano comes from the southern part of Italy where she grew up Catholic. She converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with the rest of her entire family. She went on an LDS mission, attended BYU and also raised her children in the church hoping someday they would also become missionaries. Raffaella, who goes by Raffy, got a different outcome when two of her kiddos came out to her as identifying as LGBTQ+. Of her two kiddos, both of whom have special needs, one identifies as bisexual and the other transgender. She says, "...it was a very hard situation for me as a single parent because I was at a loss. I didn't have the tools or the knowledge...and coming from Italy, although we are very sexually open and straightforward, some topics like LGBTQ+ are still, you know, in the beginning stages of conversation. But it's going forward, and people are starting to accept more LGBTQ+ kids in the community...as opposed to the eighties." She shares her journey of accepting her children's identities, and candidly talks about the challenges faced by her transgender child in accessing healthcare and support in England, as well as the lack of acceptance within their faith community in the United States. She emphasizes the importance communication, understanding and love within families. John is joined by Melody Hoffman to ponder the Minneapolis City Council race in Ward 13 (all 13 council seats in the city are up for election). Incumbent Linea Palmisano is presenting herself as the steady hand with a familiar track record. Challenger Kate Mortenson calls this a battle of the moderates, and characterizes herself as the solutions-oriented leader with Palmisano as a "manager" of a failed status quo. John pushes back against Melody's contention that we're ethically obligated to talk about perennial candidate Bob "Again" Carney. We talk about the stakes of the 2023 election; why it's important to watch or listen to a debate so you can hear the candidates respond to questions at more length than a slogan on a mail piece; what Mortenson's Bryant Ave positions say about her transportation platform; why Palmisano's careful and politically tangled rhetoric can make it hard to pin down her positions; and how Melody's favorite thing to do lately is force a "hello" on neighbors passing by her home.
