In this episode, we explore the cult classic Halloween 3: Season of the Witch with guests Jake and Ian from Podcasty for Me. We delve into the film's unique narrative, which abandons the Michael Myers storyline in favor of a standalone horror tale. Despite its initial box office struggles, we argue for its imaginative depth, touching on themes of capitalism, technology, and corporate greed embodied by the character Conal Cochran.Jake shares his personal connection to the film, and we analyze how its eerie elements, such as the haunting jingle for the Silver Shamrock masks, reflect broader societal issues. Our discussion dives into the film's practical effects, dark humor, and standout performances, particularly from Tom Atkins and Stacey Nelkin. As we wrap up, we investigate the film's ambiguous ending and its lingering impact on viewers, encouraging audiences to embrace Halloween 3 for its creativity and unique place within the horror genre.Podcasty For Me:https://www.podcastyforme.com/https://www.patreon.com/PodCastyForMehttps://twitter.com/podcastyformehttps://www.instagram.com/podcastyformeLeft of the Projector Linkshttps://www.patreon.com/LeftoftheProjectorPodhttps://boxd.it/5T9O1https://leftoftheprojector.comhttps://instagram.com/leftoftheprojectorhttp://tiktok.com/@leftoftheprojectorpodhttps://www.threads.net/@leftoftheprojector

☘️ We celebrate our first DFM season with an episode dedicated to St. Patrick's Day weekend: Halloween III of course! Demon-ette and Creature were not huge fans of HIII when they were younger, but like with a lot of horror fans, it has grown on them over the years (sorta' like we think how Halloween Ends will garner support over time!) Dr. Dan Challis celebrates St. Patrick's day with booze & womanizing, but do we think he saves all children on Halloween night from the evil ritual of one Celtic Warlock, Conal Cochran?

Spooky Season is back and we're starting October off strong with the Michael Myers-less Halloween III: Season of the Witch. Silver Shamrock masks are all the rage this year, but there's a sinister plot devised by the owner of the company, Conal Cochran, that Doctor Daniel Challis plans to get to the bottom of.While this is a departure from the Halloween films prior starring the evil Michael Myers, it's not as bad of a movie as it's been made out to be. While we all miss Michael, this is an interesting story in its own right that shouldn't be underestimated. Halloween is here once again, and while the season is still in full swing, we thought we'd take a look at a John Carpenter-produced sequel that (temporarily, at least) took his beloved horror franchise into entirely new territory. Halloween III: Season of the Witch, directed by Carpenter's regular collaborator Tommy Lee Wallace, might be one of the kookiest big-studio horror films ever made, kicking Michael Myers to the curb and replacing him with something altogether unexpected. Chris and Nick explore this wild and crazy corner of the extended Carpenter universe (featuring another killer musical score co-written by J.C. and more terrific cinematography by future Oscar-winner Dean Cundey), and make some futile attempts at solving its many mysteries. What mysteries, you ask? Well, for starters, what kind of drugs were the writers of this film on (and, where can we get some)? What, exactly, is the movie's villain -- the somewhat Willy Wonka-esque Conal Cochran -- trying to accomplish with his sinister plot to gruesomely murder America's children on Halloween night? And, um, how does middle-aged Tom Atkins keep ending up in bed with attractive, much younger women in all of these Carpenter movies? Maybe a content warning is in order, here: this episode contains A LOT more profanity than your average Precinct 13 outing, but we think it's pretty well justified -- this movie isn't just crazy, it's f*cking crazy. Anyway, we've got all of that, plus a few more recommendations for your spooky seasonal viewing pleasure, on a very special Halloween episode -- put on your Silver Shamrock mask and enjoy!
"Happy, happy Halloween..." If you remember anything at all about HALLOWEEN III (and as it's a favorite around here, you certainly should), you know that Conal Cochran's evil plan involved three distinctive masks - a pumpkin, a witch, and a skull. Natalie decided that would be the method for choosing three films to chat about with Arnold for this Halloween special edition of GHOULS IN THE HOUSE. Up first, a pumpkin demon embodies the spirit of the season in the 2007 anthology, TRICK 'R TREAT! Next, it's not just one witch but four in the 1996 cult classic about true female empowerment, THE CRAFT! Finally, a loud-mouthed skull and his entire bony body are causing trouble in the ode to '50s schlock sci-fi, THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA (2001)! So keep your jack-o'-lanterns lit, enter the circle with perfect love and perfect trust, and above all, don't get horribly mutilated! And remember, when you're listening to this podcast, the only ghoul in the house...is YOU! Show Music: "Cemetery Dance" by The Vivisectors. Kids all over America want Silver Shamrock masks for Halloween. Doctor Daniel Challis seeks to uncover a plot by Silver Shamrock owner Conal Cochran. NOTE: This is not cannon in any of the Halloween franchise except it's title. BUT this movie does stand own it's own because is such a great movie both in horror, drama, sci-fi elements to this film, thriller and even mystery. Speaking for myself I love it then as I love this film even more so don't let the title fool you there is no Michael Myers. Still have a great lead baddie and a story something out of a weird James Bond story but with a horror element to it.

Bringing an end to our Halloween mini-series which began with Halloween: The Curse of Michael Myers (or with Halloween: H20, maybe?) we are joined IN PERSON for Episode 28 by the director of the festival-crushing Christmas zombie musical, Anna and the Apocalypse, John McPhail, as we discuss the oft maligned black sheep of the Halloween franchise... His chosen film? Halloween III: Season of the Witch! With Michael Myers dead at the end of Halloween 2, John Carpenter felt that the Myers/Strode storyline had run its course. However, the franchise was believed to still have some steam in it and the decision was reached to press ahead with the third instalment with a view to making a yearly Halloween film, each with a different story. How did this work out? Not well. The film tanked. It was a commercial and critical failure and the decision was reversed. The fans wanted Michael Myers and that's what they got going forward. That said, there's an awful lot to love in Halloween III: Season of the Witch... The synopsis is as follows: Hospital emergency room Dr. Daniel "Dan" Challis and Ellie Grimbridge, the daughter of a murder victim, uncover a terrible plot by small-town mask maker Conal Cochran, a madman who's planning a Halloween mass murder utilizing an ancient Celtic ritual. The ritual involves a boulder stolen from Stonehenge, the use of Silver Shamrock masks and a triggering device contained in a television commercial -- all designed to kill millions of children. Arnold and Natalie continue their massive series rewatch of the HALLOWEEN movies! In this episode, they talk about the once-maligned, now beloved non-Myers installment, 1982's HALLOWEEN III: SEASON OF THE WITCH; the "Return of Michael Myers" in 1988's HALLOWEEN 4; and FLIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD in a nod to the podcast's zombie roots. Hear a report from this year's Monster-Mania 41 convention, as well as Natalie's theories on Conal Cochran's plans that may blow your mind like the Stonehenge-infused chip on the back of a Silver Shamrock mask! We're back with an all-new episode in our Season of Halloween celebration, this time moving on to the Michael Myers-less Halloween III: Season of the Witch! While we both recognize that the film isn't what most people would consider good, we do find some time to appreciate the awesome cheesiness of it all - from Tom Atkins' drinking problem to the great Conal Cochran to the insanely fast blossoming of love between Dr. Challis and Ellie. Comer and Radulich put Halloween 3 - Season of the Witch, On Trial! Halloween III: Season of the Witch is a 1982 American science fiction horror film and the third installment in the Halloween film series. It is the first film to be written and directed by Tommy Lee Wallace. John Carpenter and Debra Hill, the creators of Halloween, returned as producers. Starring Tom Atkins as Dr. Dan Challis, Stacey Nelkin as Ellie Grimbridge, and Dan O'Herlihy as Conal Cochran, the story focuses on an investigation by Challis and Grimbridge into the activities of Cochran, the mysterious owner of the Silver Shamrock Novelties company, in the week approaching Halloween night. Halloween III is the only entry in the series that does not feature the series antagonist Michael Myers, nor does it include story elements from either Halloween (1978) or Halloween II (1981). In fact, it treats the first film and, apparently, its sequel as fictional films, as one of the characters watches a trailer for the original during the film; additionally, the film's tagline is a reference to the tagline from the original as well. It also departs from the slasher genre which the first two installments were part of, instead featuring a "witchcraft" theme with science fiction aspects and parallels to old Celtic fairy tales. Carpenter and Hill believed that the Halloween series had the potential to branch into an anthology series of horror films that centered around the night of Halloween, with each film containing its own characters, setting, and storyline. Director Wallace stated that there were many ideas for Halloween-themed films, some of which could have potentially created any number of their own sequels, and that Season of the Witch was meant to be the first of the anthology series.
We continue our Halloween series where we look at some of our favorite horror movie sequels this week with a look at the much-maligned third entry in the HALLOWEEN series. SYNOPSIS: Dr. Daniel Challis and Ellie Grimbridge stumble onto a gruesome murder scheme when Ellie’s novelty-salesman father, Harry, is killed while in possession of a strange mask made by the Silver Shamrock mask company. The company’s owner, Conal Cochran, wants to return Halloween to its darker roots using his masks – and his unspeakable scheme would unleash death and destruction across the country. This entry in the series is notorious for not including series mainstay Michael Myers, which may have lead to its reputation as a bad film. But is it misunderstood? We're not discussing this one for redemption, but going for broke and putting it up for entry into the Psychotronic Hall of Fame! let us know if you think it deserves to go in.
