Watch our Interview on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8D3eKkd3L4w For today's episode #363, we meet with Dr Fred Jordan, where we looked at: ✔ What is the biocomputer? ✔ What does this NEW innovative technology, make obsolete, from our past? ✔ What are the benefits of a biocomputer, and how exactly does it work? ✔ What is the vision of FinalSpark, and how can this change the future of AI? Welcome back to SEASON 13 of The Neuroscience Meets Social and Emotional Learning Podcast, where we connect the science-based evidence behind social and emotional learning and emotional intelligence training for improved well-being, achievement, productivity and results—using what I saw as the missing link (since we weren't taught this when we were growing up in school), the application of practical neuroscience. I'm Andrea Samadi, an author, and an educator with a passion for learning and launched this podcast 7 years ago now, with the goal of bringing ALL the leading experts together (in one place) to help us to APPLY this research in our daily lives. For today's episode #363, we meet with the CEO and Co-Founder of AlpVision and FinalSpark, Dr. Fred Jordan who will be joining us all the way from Switzerland. I met Dr. Jordan through LinkedIn, where he introduced his work to me, and my attention was caught. When I asked him what he does in his lab at FinalSpark, he wrote back to me that his lab has developed an emerging technology that would redefine the status quo in technology and in the ways that people work. Of course I asked him if he could explain this to me, and he wrote back that “we use living neurons, the building blocks in the brain, for processing information” and sent me the link to his website[i] where there is a live camera view of living neurons placed on electrodes, and you can see the signal from them. He went on to explain that neurons in the brain communicate using electrical and chemical stimulations and that his lab was focused on building a new generation of bioprocessors. At this point, I am sure he would know that I'm interested to learn more, mostly to understand what exactly does this mean? I wonder: Does Dr. Jordan mean that his lab is building a computer processor out of living neurons (cells from our brain)? How do they do this? What are the advantages of a bioprocessor vs using transistors (that are semiconductor devices used to amplify or switch electrical signals and power)? How does this connect to AI? What does his lab envision for the future? I have a lot of questions for Dr. Jordan, and I am coming from the point of view that I really want to learn and understand what his lab has created. I want to be able to explain his idea to our audience in a way that we can all come away with some new knowledge and understanding about the future, and how keeping an open mind while learning can set us apart from others, and even give us a razor's edge advantage in whatever work we are doing in the world. Let's meet Dr. Fred Jordan, and together, learn about the work they are doing at FinalSpark in Switzerland, and see if it can expand of thinking, and take us to new heights with the new awareness we will gain today. INTRO Q: Welcome Dr. Fred Jordan. Thank you for reaching out to me, and opening up my mind to something that while writing these questions, I still didn't completely understand. Can you explain what exactly is a biocomputer and why would anyone want to have a computer that uses living neurons instead of transistors to process information? Q1: As someone who loves entrepreneurship, or those people in the world who create new ideas that change the world, can you tell me how where this idea began? Q2: I did listen to one of your podcast episodes[ii] about “The Future of AI: How Biocomputers Will Change Everything” so I could wrap my head around what you do at FinalSpark, and it brought me to something I heard longevity researcher Dr. David Sinclair say that I will never forget. He said “we can make a mouse in a lab out of stem cells.” Can you explain where these neurons come that you are using come from and also help me to understand what Dr. Sinclair meant when he said they can make a mouse out of stem cells? Q3: For someone who doesn't have a formal background in science, but I want to learn difficult concepts, and be able to explain them to others, can you explain how these living neurons work? Q4: What is the advantage of using a biocomputer and what problems does this solve? They consume 1 million X less than digital computers, quantum computers still in R&D stage Q5: What industries will be changed with the biocomputer? (semi-conductor industry) or what other applications can you think of that this type of computer can have (maybe medical applications)? Q6: What types of feedback are you hearing about the biocomputer? Do people think it's acceptable to use living neurons for computation? Q7: Who are the leaders in this type of research? What other countries do you know of, where labs are working on this type of computer? Q8: What Universities have approached you to learn more about this neuro-platform? Q9: What is your vision for FinalSpark, and how do you think this will change the future workforce? Q10: This topic made me think and I found it difficult to grasp, but am very interested in learning more about how this concept could change everything that we know about the way we work and use computers. What would you say to me to show me that having an open mind will set me apart from others, or give me an advantage maybe in the future? Q11: Is there anything I have missed, or anything important that our listeners should know about? Dr. Jordan, I want to thank you for taking the time to speak with me about what you have created at FinalSpark. I'm very interested in NEW ideas, especially those that will change the way we operate and live our lives, exponentially. I remember hearing a quote from Gordon Moore, Intel's co-founder and the author of Moore's law many years ago in reference to the fact that “the number of transistors in an integrated circuit doubles roughly every 2 years” and this trend has driven the exponential growth of computing power and efficiency , leading to faster processors and smaller devices. He said “frankly, I didn't expect to be so precise” with his prediction. What do you think when you have the power of the biocomputer, and George Moore's quote, of the potential of what you have created at FinalSpark? For people to connect with you and learn more, what is the best way? Dr. Kenneth Rogoff has undoubtedly had one of the highest-profile and most interesting careers of any Grandmaster working outside of chess. He is an author and Harvard professor who was once singled-out by none other than Bobby Fischer, as a player who had shown remarkable chess improvement. As a young chess star, Dr. Rogoff actually dropped out of high school to move to Europe and pursue chess professionally, but by age 18 he had returned to the U.S. and enrolled at Yale. He would remain active in chess for many more years, but his top priority gradually switched from chess to academics, and he eventually quit chess entirely (save for an exhibition game against Magnus Carlsen in 2012) Dr. Rogoff still loves chess and thinks about it all the time, but economics turned out to be the right decision for him, as he has become a distinguished professor who has worked as the Chief Economist at the World Bank, and has met 8 different U.S. Presidents in his life. His new book, Our Dollar, Your Problem, intersperses occasional lessons from his chess career while providing a modern history of the U.S. dollar as the reserve currency. This interview focuses primarily on Dr. Rogoff's chess career, but those interested in his reflections on the global economy should stay tuned until the end of the interview, and should definitely check out his new book. Evolutionary psychologist, Doug Lisle, PhD discusses listener questions with co-host, Nathan Gershfeld. 0:00 Teaser Clips & Intro 0:51 My wife hired an escort but says it wasn't technically cheating! 19:01 I'm going to grad school to find a rich husband, but I'm not that into it 40:38 Scratching the psychological itch to get revenge Question 1: Dear Dr. Lisle, I'm a 38 year old male and I work very long hours in finance. My wife, who is 27, and I have been going through a sort of dead bedroom situation for the past few months because I have been working 16-18 hours a day and sleeping about 4 hours per night. She is a housewife so she stays at home all day. Recently I just found out that my wife has been paying for and meeting with a male escort twice a week for the past three months while I was working. She confirmed that they did sleep together every time they met. She says that this is not technically cheating because she paid for his consent, so basically he didn't want to have sex with her, he just did it for money so this shouldn't count as cheating. She said there are no romantic feelings between them, but she hired the same guy for the past three months so obviously she's attracted to him. Then she tried to blame it on me for working too much and not being there for her. Maybe I'm overreacting, but I feel heartbroken and betrayed. Is she right in saying that hiring an escort doesn't count as cheating? Who is in the wrong here, me for working too much and neglecting her, or her for paying for sex and companionship outside the marriage? I don't know if I should stay with her or not, I love her but I'm furious with her for taking advantage of my good nature and spending thousands of dollars of my hard earned money so she can sleep with someone else. Question 2: Is it wrong to go to grad school with the primary goal of finding a smart, conscientious, potentially rich husband? I'm a second year dental school student, but I'm honestly here mostly to put myself in an environment surrounded by intelligent hardworking men, so I can have something in common with them and make them see me as wife material. I'm also hoping the repeat exposure would help. I am scraping by in school, passing but not too passionate about it as my main goal in life is to be a housewife to a rich husband. I'm just hoping to use the doctorate degree as an accessory to attract these men. Am I wrong in the way I'm thinking? P.S. Otherwise, where would I meet such men, on dating apps? I don't think so. Question 3: Does Dr. Lisle have any strategies for scratching the psychological itch to get revenge when someone has wronged you? Over two years ago, a long term “friend” betrayed me in an undeniable way and never acknowledged it or seemed remorseful. We are no longer friends and don't even talk, but have many mutual friends so he is somewhat in my life. I feel that he owes me a debt and sometimes ruminate about it. I have a near constant underlying feeling that I want him to experience the shock and betrayal that I did, and that I would be willing to facilitate it if I could. I try to put my energy into developing other, more authentic relationships and into healthy living. Is living well actually the best revenge? I am not feeling that yet and would like to serve it cold instead. Any thoughts? Episode #144 In this Fasting Q&A episode, hosted by Coach Lisa Chance, Dr. Jason Fung answers questions from the TFM Community: I've known for a long time how neuroprotective ketones are for the brain, but, wow, what ketones do for the heart is amazing, especially the failing heart. Could you elaborate, Dr. Fung? [02:15] Do you need to be in ketosis to burn fat and does being in at least a low level of nutritional ketosis help you go into autophagy sooner? [04:39] Why does it take such a long time to become fat adapted? [07:20] I've heard that fasting “turns on” survival genes. Can you tell us a little more about this? [09:25] What are your thoughts about the new recommendation to carb load before surgery to “calm” someone? [11:12] Is there any correlation between fasting and pulse rate? [12:58] I have a diabetic friend who is participating in a study on duodenal mucosa resurfacing (DMR) as a treatment for T2D. Does Dr. Fung have any take on this pretty new procedure or explanation of how and why it works? [13:17] If a person wants the benefit of therapeutic fasting (like autophagy) but they do not have adequate body fat for longer fasts (for example, a TOFI person with a fatty liver, or somebody at 30% body fat who needs a lot of autophagy for an autoimmune condition), How should they eat on eating days to be able to maintain a therapeutic fasting schedule like an alternate-day fasting protocol? [16:33] What are the signs of a histamine intolerance and can it get worse over time? Does fasting help? [17:53] If autophagy is mostly switched on by the presence of mTor, could a person (in principle) eat a zero protein diet and eat exclusively fat but still ramp up autophagy enough for some protein recycling to aid loose skin reduction, macular problems, skin tags, etc.? [18:45] How do you get rid of visceral fat? [20:22] How long does the effect of dairy on insulin last? [21:45] Why is it easier for women to do longer fasts after they've had a small amount of tubers during the last meal before their fast? [24:41] Please note that you need to be a member of the TFM Community to submit questions to the Q&A webinars with Dr. Fung but you can submit questions to our regular Q&A episodes here: https://bit.ly/TFMPodcastQs Learn More About Our Community: https://www.thefastingmethod.com Join our FREE Facebook Group: https://bit.ly/TFMNetwork Watch Us On YouTube: https://bit.ly/TFMYouTube Follow Us on Instagram: @fastingmethod This podcast is for educational purposes only and is not a substitute for professional care by a doctor or other qualified medical professional. Dr. Paul always has valuable insights to share from his perspective, both as an Austrian economist and a former U.S. politician and with everything going on in the world, I wanted to invite him back to get his perspective on the trends going into 2024, including the march toward a possible World War 3. TODAY'S CONVERSATION WITH DR. RON PAUL Listen in to Dr. Paul's perspective on why Austrian economics can predict trends but not specifics. This is an important distinction! Does Dr. Paul believe we will see a new world reserve currency? Dr. Paul breaks down why the end of the dollar is inevitable but not necessarily imminent Find out how Dr. Paul views the current escalations in tensions with China. Will this lead to a hot war in Asia? Could there be a reinstatement of the draft in the United States? Dr. Paul and I discuss the possibility that many U.S. clients of mine have expressed concerns about. Hear Dr. Paul's opinion on where in the world would be a safe place to go if a World War III scenario were to play out. You won't want to miss Ron's epic rant about why the real isolationists are the governments and politicians causing wars and interfering in the economy. Dr. Paul really got fired up here! Finally, you'll get Ron Paul's predictions for 2024. How does he see the U.S. election playing out? What will unfold in regard to the march towards World War 3? And where does he find hope? You won't want to miss this inspiring episode that sparks a discussion of optimism and hope for the future, with these young men at the helm! Quotes: “Everything that I do is geared towards helping future generations express more of their inborn radically resilient, but also the genius level potential that most of us have never been taught that is how we are designed.” – Stanton Hom “We are in a world where two people behind this thing could hate it and never want to put on [the mask on], not believing it. But they are so socially afraid to say something that they will stay obedient and keep going. That said, I will never quiet my voice. ” – Stanton Hom. “Everything you're learning today is the mental, physical, and spiritual ammunition you need to meet the challenges. Because the solution is not going to come from me, the solution is not going to come from Matt; the solution is going to come from you guys. Your light and your miraculous nature and deep inspiration and purpose will fuel many of the answers. ” – Stanton Hom. Key Takeaways: Everyone has a genius-level potential residing inside us. That is how we are designed. Our future generations must unlock this power and utilize it to change our dark world and create a brighter future. Nowadays, people do not understand how grave the situation is and how it will negatively affect people's lives. And others, despite being aware, are afraid to step up and fight. But if we want the oppression to stop, we need to take action and let them hear our voices. To the future generations, what you are learning and experiencing in your youth will prepare you for upcoming challenges you may face in your lifetime. Conclusion: It may seem difficult to fight those in power who control almost every aspect of our lives. However, we can change the world if everyone speaks up, steps up, and fights. Don't be afraid; nothing will change until we take action. It is important that our future generations continue to learn and use their potential inner power for the greater good. Our youth are the hope, the light, the inspiration, the purpose, and the key to a brighter future. Are your mental health pills making you feel bad? In this episode of The Evolving Wellness podcast, I am joined by Dr. Rachel Brown and Dr. Sara Pugh to discuss the impact of mental health medications on the body. We live in a world where these types of medications, such as SSRIs, are over-prescribed, and thus too many people experience negative side effects. Oftentimes, these pills are prescribed before a patient is recommended to fix basic pillars of health, such as diet, sleep, and exercise. We explore a few things one can do to improve their mental health naturally and easily before one resort to prescription drugs. We also chat about the dangers of over-supplementing melatonin. When we ingest too much of it, these supplements don't act as supplements anymore but as contraceptives as they start to repress our bodies' natural ability to create melatonin itself. This can cause a lot of damage to our overall health. Dr. Sara Pugh has a degree in Biochemistry Genetics and a Welcome Trust Ph.D. in Molecular Mechanisms. She studied protein folding, which plays a role in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease, antioxidants, and fluorescence. She worked as a postdoctoral researcher on heart muscle cells, cholesterol, and statins. She is published in various peer-reviewed journals. Dr. Rachel Brown works as an NHS Consultant Psychiatrist in Scotland. She qualified in medicine from the University of Edinburgh in 2003 and has worked in psychiatry since 2004. She has a Master's degree in Medical Laws and Ethics from the University of Edinburgh, in addition to being a certified Functional Medicine Practitioner. Hello, my beautiful souls! Welcome back to The Manifestation Babe podcast. If you have been following me lately, you know that I've been diving into this new modality called Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT). It is like NLP and hypnotherapy, but much more effective. I see RRT as a way to quickly, painlessly, and easily shift the way your mind processes information, and releases trauma. So today, I thought who better to interview than the founder himself Dr. Jon Connelly. Dr. Connelly was able to clear three issues for me in one session, I was MIND BLOWN. So much so, that I recommended him to my mom, my COO Londa, and my husband. Every person has reported life-changing shifts after working with Dr. Connelly. So without further ado, let's dive into the interview. Dr. Jon Connelly is the author of Life Changing conversations with Rapid Resolution Therapy (RRT) and his new book Grief Is Not Sacred. Dr. Jon Connelly has dedicated his life to the healing of others and sharing his knowledge and skill through professional training and events. His early career experiences as a child protective service worker and clinical supervisor in a program for traumatized teens helped shape the creation of Rapid Resolution Therapy. RRT has evolved into a highly effective and painless approach as a standalone therapy and is backed by hundreds of testimonials from clients and practitioners. Rapid Resolution Therapy is utilized in addressing many issues such as PTSD, sexual trauma, addiction, heartbreak, anxiety, panic disorder, phobias, and more with lasting results. RRT gained momentum and is now a thriving global community. Jon Connelly also founded the Institute for survivors of sexual violence, a nonprofit organization engaged in the research and development of cutting-edge treatment for sexual trauma survivors. Jon is also a licensed clinical social worker and holds a doctorate in Clinical pastoral counseling. In this episode, we talk about the benefits of RRT! Please be sure to tag me @manifestationbabe on Instagram and share this episode with your community to spread the word If you or someone you know has benefited from this episode!
