Around this time every year, dozens of parents of high school prospects ask IL's Terry Foy some version of the question, "How does recruiting work?" In an effort to round out that answer, he's interviewing a series of DI men's lacrosse coaches about their process, continuing with Dartmouth head coach Sean Kirwan. Entering his third recruiting cycle leading the Big Green, Kirwan talks about the relationship between recruiting and developing star players — diving deep into how that unfolded with Connor Shellenberger when he was an assistant at Virginia — and the role that watching high school film has played in his evaluation methods.

So, I just want to say upfront — this is one of those conversations that really stays with you. Today I'm talking to the brilliant Helen Kirwan-Taylor, who honestly blew me away with how open, and completely unfiltered she is about trauma — real trauma. Helen lost her sister in an unimaginably tragic way when she was 12, and we talk about what happens when no one around you talks about it, and you're just expected to get on with things — and how that silence seeps into everything: your body, your relationships, your anxiety, your ability to feel safe. What I found so powerful is how Helen challenges a lot of the current language around trauma — she talks about the difference between real, shattering trauma and what she sees as the overuse of the term in pop culture. But she also gets into what it actually looks like when your nervous system doesn't feel safe for years — the health stuff, the spirals, the coping. And she does it all with this really sharp, self-aware humour that just cuts through the heaviness. It's a big, honest conversation — and I'm really grateful she had it with me but a warning for anyone who may find references to murder, death and grief triggering as this might not be one for you.Try Bettervits for yourself, head on over to bettervits.co.uk and get 15% off your 1st order with my code PANDORA15.Find Helen:Instagram: @helenkirwantaylor Stay Connected with Hurt to Healing:Instagram: instagram.com/hurttohealingpodTikTok: tiktok.com/@hurttohealingpodLinkedIn: linkedin.com/company/hurt-to-healingSubstack: substack.com/@hurttohealingWebsite: hurttohealing.co.uk Hosted on Acast. Muscle mass is not only essential for physical strength and performance but also plays a crucial role in managing blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. In this episode we welcome Dr. Richie Kirwan, a lecturer in nutrition and exercise physiology at Liverpool John Moores University. Dr. Kirwan's research focuses on the critical role of muscle mass in cardiometabolic health, particularly in cardiac rehabilitation. His work explores how muscle mass influences cardiovascular health, blood glucose control, and lipid profiles, highlighting the importance of exercise and high-protein, Mediterranean-style diets in maintaining muscle health and preventing disease. During the discussion, Dr. Kirwan explains how muscle mass is not only essential for physical strength and performance but also plays a crucial role in managing blood glucose levels and reducing the risk of cardiovascular diseases. He elaborates on the metabolic functions of muscle tissue, its impact on blood lipid levels, and the protective effects it offers against diabetes and related cardiovascular conditions. The conversation also touches on the significance of muscle strength in older adults, addressing issues like sarcopenia and its implications for balance, bone health, and overall longevity. Join us for an insightful dialogue that bridges the gap between muscle physiology and cardiometabolic health, offering practical insights for researchers, clinicians, and anyone interested in the intersection of exercise, nutrition, and chronic disease prevention. ________________________________________________________________________________ This podcast episode is sponsored by Fibion Inc. | Better Sleep, Sedentary Behaviour and Physical Activity Research with Less Hassle --- Collect, store and manage SB and PA data easily and remotely - Discover ground-breaking Fibion SENS --- SB and PA measurements, analysis, and feedback made easy.  Learn more about Fibion Research --- Learn more about Fibion Sleep and Fibion Circadian Rhythm Solutions. --- Fibion Kids - Activity tracking designed for children. --- Collect self-report physical activity data easily and cost-effectively with Mimove. --- Explore our Wearables,  Experience sampling method (ESM), Sleep,  Heart rate variability (HRV), Sedentary Behavior and Physical Activity article collections for insights on related articles. --- Refer to our article "Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior Measurements" for an exploration of active and sedentary lifestyle assessment methods. --- Learn about actigraphy in our guide: Exploring Actigraphy in Scientific Research: A Comprehensive Guide. --- Gain foundational ESM insights with "Introduction to Experience Sampling Method (ESM)" for a comprehensive overview. --- Explore accelerometer use in health research with our article "Measuring Physical Activity and Sedentary Behavior with Accelerometers ". --- For an introduction to the fundamental aspects of HRV, consider revisiting our Ultimate Guide to Heart Rate Variability. --- Follow the podcast on Twitter https://twitter.com/PA_Researcher Follow host Dr Olli Tikkanen on Twitter https://twitter.com/ollitikkanen Follow Fibion on Twitter https://twitter.com/fibion https://www.youtube.com/@PA_Researcher

An episode from THE BIBLE Baptist Church, a Bible believing, Bible preaching church in DeLand, Florida. What THE BIBLE Baptist Church (TBBC) Believes:“A church is not a social organization or a club. It is a gathering of men and women who have put their faith and trust in the Lord Jesus Christ. These people meet together to worship the Lord, to praise Him, to encourage one another to live lives pleasing to the Savior and to be instructed in the truths of the Holy Bible. It is also a place from which these believers go forth, individually and in groups, to spread the gospel of Christ Jesus to men and women the world over. The extent to which the blessing of the Lord abides upon a church and the effectiveness of a church in the aforementioned areas depends upon its understanding of and obedience to the words of God. There are certainly clearly stated truths found in scripture to which all believers must steadfastly adhere. A collection of individuals, each living in accord with their opinions or religious notions, can accomplish little for Christ. A gathering of men and women who have a like-minded faith in a foundational set of Biblical truths can do great things for the Lord.Below are those truths upon which we have built THE BIBLE Baptist Church.Should you have other questions please feel free to ask. Our people and leaders are available and more than happy to let you know what we do and why. It is our hope and prayer that the Lord will direct you to become a vital part of the gospel work which He has given us to do.”You may write to THE BIBLE Baptist Church at:872 Glenwood Rd.DeLand, FL 32720Have A Blessed Day, THE BBLE Baptist Church  The KJV Bible Preaching Churches Podcast is directly supported by Doss Metrics LLC | Ministry Services based out of Cleveland Texas. Sir John Kirwan: All Blacks Great on the shock exit of Assistant Coach Leon MacDonald

The Mike Hosking Breakfast

All Blacks great Sir John Kirwan says Leon MacDonald's coaching future will have to be overseas after exiting as the All Blacks assistant coach yesterday.  In a shock move, New Zealand Rugby announced MacDonald was stepping down from the role under All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson five tests into the season, and just a week out from their Rugby Championship test against South Africa.  “It's unbelievable...incredible courage I believe on behalf of both of them,” Kirwan told the Mike Hosking Breakfast on Newstalk ZB.  “If it's not working out because the status quo would be probably stay there, finish the season. But for them to move on this quicker, I think it's the best thing for the team.”  ‘Some people just can't be assistants'  Kirwan said there were probably two main reasons for MacDonald to walk away from the role.  “Probably a lack of philosophy around how they are attacking. Once you don't agree on how they're going to attack it's pretty hard to mend,” he told Hosking.  “And the second thing is, I think some people just can't be assistants as well. Leon's been a head coach now for a while, and so it's hard to sometimes go back to being assistant.  Regardless of the timing of his exit, MacDonald will now be highly sought after by any side in need of a coach.  At Super Rugby level, MacDonald led the Blues in 69 games during his four-year tenure, for 45 wins, 23 defeats and a draw.  The Herald understands MacDonald turned down an approach from Scotland in order to sign on with Robertson and the All Blacks.  “I think he'd probably have to go offshore, now. There's no jobs left in New Zealand,” Kirwan added.  The All Blacks face the Springboks at Ellis Park next Sunday in their first meeting since the Rugby World Cup final. That is followed by a second test a week later in Cape Town. Kirwan said losing a coach midseason shouldn't be a major disruption for the players.  “I don't think the players will be affected too much. I think they'll just carry on. I don't think he's going to be replaced, so it'll be one less voice.  “He's [Robertson's] got enough people in there to fill the gap. I just think they'll carry on.”  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Sir John Kirwan: Former All Black on the continued struggle over NZ Rugby's governance structure

The Mike Hosking Breakfast

New Zealand's rugby provinces have been warned by the professional players association to brace for a civil war if they vote to approve their own governance change proposal at next week's special general meeting.   In an explosive move, the New Zealand Rugby Players' Association (NZRPA) has told the unions it is ready to break away to form a new and separate entity to manage the professional game.  The NZRPA says that if the provinces vote in favour of what is known as Proposal 2 – a new governance structure that the provinces have developed themselves and one that differs significantly to an alternative blueprint that aligns with the findings of an independent review – it will withdraw, via its collective employment agreement, the right for New Zealand Rugby (NZR) to govern the game.  It leaves rugby in an even more uncomfortable position than before, with the game to be divided even further if the NZRPA decides it will no longer allow its players' image rights to be used by NZR.  Former All Black Sir John Kirwan told Newstalk ZB's Mike Hosking that the situation should never have reached this point and that he fears a repeat of the early days of professionalism, where players were split between signing up for official and rebel financial offers.  “That will happen again, there will be an absolute split. That's why I don't think threatening to leave is the right answer. I understand Rob's [Nichol, chair of NZRPA] frustration because he has seen this governance review done and now they're trying to change it, I understand that frustration,” Kirwan said.  NZRPA boss Rob Nichol. Photo / Dean Purcell  He said that while rugby faces pressure for participation from other codes like football, there should be a united front among the leaders of the game rather than division.  Kirwan told Hosking that those with the power to make change are digging in their heels and refusing to relinquish power, despite a review that cost millions telling them that was what was best for rugby.  “Some of these chairmen, they're just holding the game a wee bit to ransom. Some of these guys that are fighting, their unions lost $800,000 to a million dollars last year. It's a broken system at the moment, we need to get back to what's best for our game,” he said.  “You spent millions of dollars on a governance review, that governance review's come out and now you're trying to change it. So the problem is power.  “The interesting thing for the public is the NPC sides really at the end of the day have a vote, all of them, that can change the direction of the game. What we're trying to do is speed that up, what the governance review said is we need to have a look at our game, we need to change it we need a different structure.”  The 63-time All Black said he fears the New Zealand rugby-loving public are growing weary of the continued debate and that it will drive fans away from the game.  “The trouble is, with me, I don't like threats of people leaving and that sort of stuff but our game continues to be split. The saddest thing for me is people don't give a s*** any more, because they're just sick of it.  “Rather than having an opinion and being passionate about it, if you just stop caring that's when our game is in real danger.”  LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
