In this episode, our new producer, Lauren Williams, revisits an old genre through a new lens. Classical music, a historically exclusionary space, is going through changes. We explore the process of writing and performing boundary-pushing classical music with Seth Parker Woods, a Grammy-nominated cello player who pulls from the sounds and stories of the Black diaspora to write otherworldly compositions, and Curtis Stewart, a Grammy-nominated Violinist who experiments with beats and electronics in his virtuosic arrangements. We get a taste of how far the genre has come — and how far it has to go — from Afa Dworkin, a violinist and the creative director of The Sphinx Organization, which supports emerging composers of color. To wrap up the episode, we hear from Abel Selaocoe, a classical cellist from South Africa who has gifted the genre something new to play by tapping into ancestral memory. PA 030

It changes the feeling you have. It changes the sense of exploration.”

I'm starting this podcast because the quality of property education SUCKS at the moment. We live in the attention economy. What that means now is that we're being taught more and more by teachers who have no idea what they're talking about. We have kids who've done very little, understand even less and talk NON stop.  For us, with my own story, a lack of quality education was a BIG reason why my family lost their home when I was 15.  Point is, the current education is dangerous.  You can just as easily get yourself into trouble by aimlessly following these sheepish advice and buying up a pile of lemons. On Australian Property Chat, I'll use my experience to cut through the BS.The purpose of this is purely to share what I know with the hope that it helps educate you, and that it helps inform your decision making process better. We'll talk to our network of fellow property people, about all things driving residential property markets. Me and my co-host Curtis Stewart have done it all – not long ago we were first home buyers taking advantage of incentives, we've bought and held properties, bought H&L packages, made mistakes, learned from them, pivoted, adjusted, and now I'm a developer in Sydney and have built a sizeable property portfolio. Our aim is simple on the show, it's to entertain & educate you about how to grow wealth through property.Note: all advice on this podcast is general in nature and reflects our opinions only.  You should seek individual financial advice about your circumstances. Reach out to us at www.australianpropertytalk.com.au

Julia Perry (1924-1979) was an American composer, who studied at Tanglewood, Juilliard and in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, where she won the Boulanger Grand Prix for her Viola Sonata. She was the recipient of two Guggenheim Fellowships and also studied in Italy with Luigi Dallapiccola. Despite her prolific achievements, Perry's work has fallen into obscurity, including her Violin Concerto of 1963. Here to shine a light on her work is violinist Curtis Stewart, who will be giving the premiere performance of Perry's Violin Concerto with the Experiential Orchestra and James Blachly on 2 December in New York. Curtis speaks with online editor Davina Shum about the unexpected logistics of programming an unknown work, as well as the challenges that come with the piece, and why this work should be performed more often. Curtis will perform Julia Perry's Violin Concerto on Friday 2 December 2022 at 8pm with the Experiential Orchestra and James Blachly, at the DiMenna Center for Classical Music, 450 West 37th Street, New York, NY. CURTIS STEWART is a multi Grammy-nominated violinist/composer who enjoys bouncing between MTV specials with Wyclef Jean and sold out shows at Madison Square Garden with Stevie Wonder to stints at the Kennedy Center with the Jimmy Heath Big Band and runs at the Guggenheim, MoMA and Whitney Museums in NYC. Curtis has performed as a classical soloist at Lincoln Center, with the New York Philharmonic Bandwagon, as well as held chamber music residencies at Carnegie Hall, the MET Museum and National Sawdust. His work realizes a vision to find personal and powerful connections between styles, cultures, and music. Curtis teaches at The Juilliard School, Perlman Music Program, has been commissioned to write works for the Royal Conservatory of music, The Virginia Symphony, The Eastman Cello Institute, New York Festival of Song, PUBLIQuartet, and Carnegie Hall: Play/USA.  www.curtisjstewart.com"I have always grappled between being an educator, a creator/composer, a writer of verse, an improviser, quartet-mate, band-mate, administrator.   I can't seem to sit still in one role, and I have never seen myself as such - both because I am trying to survive as an artist, and because my passions for each one of the above vie for attention at all times.  I left teaching highschool for 10 years because the NYC Department of Ed was totally inflexible with me taking off days for performance.  I began creating my recent album OF POWER in my living room because I couldn't get together with my friends in PUBLIQuartet. In the end, it all balances on supporting myself just enough to be able to express and create from a place of authenticity, vulnerability and invention." ~ CJS
