Tom Service is joined by the Grammy® award-winning Uruguayan conductor and composer, José Serebrier, who shares stories from his life in music ahead of the launch of a new biography by the author Michael Faure. With more than three hundred recordings already under his belt, he discusses, too, the creative impetus behind a new compendium of recordings which feature world premières of his own compositional work. We hear from the music director, conductor, and academic Sean Mayes, and the musical theatre researcher, practitioner and academic Sarah K. Whitfield about their recently published book 'An Inconvenient Black History of British Musical Theatre'. Michael McCarthy, artistic director of Music Theatre Wales, tells us about the company's New Directions initiative – a project aimed at creating more open and diverse opera by working with artists and designers who have not yet worked in the art form. Two of the composers working on new pieces, Tumi Williams and Jasmin Kent Rodgman, explain what they would like to achieve and why is it crucial for opera that this schemes exist. And we explore the plight of the many musicians challenged by hearing loss who want to make a life as professional performers and composers, with contributions from Danny Lane, the artistic director of the charity Music and the Deaf, who describes his own experience and the work he's involved in helping young people and adults access and enjoy music. Ahead of the launch of her first classical music album with the London Symphony Orchestra, Tom also talks to the composer Cevanne Horrocks Hopayian about her work writing music-films, and her involvement with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Resound.

I'm Danny Lane, the curator of The Music Museum. This exhibit is called The Vietnam War: The Music. Our mission here at the Music Museum is to support all Vietnam Veterans and those who serve the United States, then and now. The title, Brothers In Arms, is chosen to recognize the military participation and sacrifices of Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, the Philippines, South Korea and Taiwan as our allies during the war. It's all about the brotherhood and the music. We thank you all for your service. - - - -Early-on, in Vietnam, soldiers turned to music as a lifeline to the home front they'd promised to defend. Rock & roll (R&R) really became rest & relaxation (R&R) for the troops. It was this music that got you through another day, another day closer to going home. Music was a big part of a soldier's down time that centered within the hooches of Vietnam. The music that was popular during the Vietnam War was, and is still, therapy. Perfect for the holiday season!Live archive release including 24 page booklet. Recorded at McCabe's in Santa Monica, CA, on August 18th, 1973, Cosmic Partners - The McCabe's Tapes is a rare and previously unreleased concert recording featuring Nesmith and a small coterie of fellow musicians, including long time recording partner and pedal steel player Red Rhodes. This recording is from a mini concert tour that was in support of what was to be Nesmith's final record on the RCA label, Pretty Much Your Standard Ranch Stash. The dates would reunite him with the remnant players from Nesmith's Countryside label, under Elektra. Consisting of a rhythm section featuring Danny Lane on drums and Colin Cameron on bass, and the legendary O.J. "Red" Rhodes on pedal steel, this would be the last performance of it's kind and the beginning of an almost Homeric journey for Nesmith.https://www.amazon.com/Cosmic-Partners-MICHAEL-RHODES-NESMITH/dp/B07Y4KVKSG/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=cosmic+partners&qid=1574707663&sr=8-1https://www.videoranch3d.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Category_code=100&Product_code=300-CPV
