Brenda McMorrow discusses mantra music and medicine songs. Brenda McMorrow is a Canadian Devotional Chant artist who is known for her unique and warmly embracing style of mantra music, in which she blends elements of acoustic folk, world rhythms, and ancient Indian chants with a sweetly introspective singer-songwriter's sensibility. Yoga Journal describes Brenda as having “a knack for expressing the deepest realizations in the sparsest lyrics”. As spiritual teacher Ram Dass has said: “Brenda has a gift”, and her music has been touching people's hearts worldwide.Originally a folk/pop singer/songwriter, it was when Brenda participated in her first Sanskrit chant while attending a Yoga workshop in 2004, that she had a profound knowing her musical journey was leading her to places more expansive and heart-opening than she had ever imagined. Brenda remembers: “It was a very simple chant (Om Namah Shivaya), and at the time I had no idea what it signified: all I knew was that every cell in my body started vibrating, and I felt absolute joy”. While in India soon thereafter, Brenda began combining her own songwriting with ancient Sanskrit chants – and she has been flowing with this divine wave of Bhakti energy ever since. With 5 celebrated devotional chant albums, Brenda is a featured artist on White Swan Records, a Colorado label.. She has shared festival stages with Krishna Das and Snatam Kaur; has been accompanied by Grammy award winning cellist David Darling; has been a guest musician with esteemed Kirtan musicians Jai Uttal, Wah!, David Newman, Girish, Mirabai Ceiba, Jai Jagdeesh, Shantala and Dave Stringer; and has been invited to Bhakti Yoga festivals and events across North America, Europe and Asia. When not on the Bhakti road, Brenda calls the countryside near beautiful Guelph, Ontario, home.https://brendamcmorrow.com/Become a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/truth-be-told-paranormal--3589860/support.

Dave Stringer & Sheila Nicholls "Taking us on a journey of the making of Thrum" This interview is a beautiful intimate catch with Dave Stringer & Sheila Nicholls who's paths crossed once upon a time through a mutual friend in LA at a incredible music artistic party with some very A list LA folk. They both set off on their paths, and then their paths crossed again and they realised they had alot more in common than they realised, and they discovered the G word and they both have a particular vocal chemistry and something magical about how they approach melody, its very inituitive when they play around with creativity together, its not a linear process. Sheila made All of Nature which Dave was a co producer, and Sheila made a song called "God" and then they came together and made "Thrum" which we dive deep into how was created and all the twists and turns that they navigated along the way. We explore the big jump from being a Atheist to finding her way to sort her fractional mind and experience the eye behind the eye. I love this conversation, it truly is inspiring and a beautiful reminder of how if each individual does our own work, we will be making a greater difference for a better world "Judging everyones delusions and not seeing your own" Sheila Nicholls. Part two of Hari Scott Whitmore's interview with his tabla teacher and Indian classical legend Daniel Paul. Daniel is a captivating storyteller, and he shares about his time with masters such as Ali akar Khan and Zakir Hussain, the origins and history of Indian Classical music, and the inherent sacredness of tabla rhythm. Whether a lover of classical or new to the form, everyone can benefit from this episode and gain a deeper appreciation for this ancient and sacred art form. Daniel Paul is an India Fulbright award-winning tabla drummer and graduate of the Ali Akbar College of Music, who for three decades has been accompanying many of today's top kirtan singers on the international chanting circuit. From his long association accompanying Grammy nominee Jai Uttal and the exotic global vocalist Gina Salá, Daniel has also toured South America backing the soft prayers of Snatam Kaur and throughout North America contributing to the rocking chants of Dave Stringer and the Guru Ganesha Band. Daniel has maintained a varied eclectic career from music director for the Off-Broadway play "Ghashiram Kotwal" to decades of informal kirtan in the jungles and beaches of Maui. From Carnegie Hall to the Waikiki Bandshell, in a cave under old Jerusalem, to the temples and all night music festivals of India, whether through kirtan, classical sitar and sarod, Kathak dance and bansuri flute recitals, or his "Rhythms of the Heart" workshops, Daniel continues to introduce new audiences to the magic of the tabla. Dave Stringer performs and discusses mantra music and its effects on the mind. Dave Stringer is a Grammy®-nominated producer, singer, songwriter and innovative modern Kirtan artist, profiled in publications all over the world. Stringer's sound connects the transcendent mysticism of traditional Indian instruments with the exuberant, groove-oriented sensibility of American Gospel and the ringing harmonies of Appalachia. He is featured in the documentary films Mantra: Sounds into Silence and The Power of Mantra. Initially trained as a visual artist, filmmaker and jazz musician, Stringer's focus shifted significantly after video editing work brought him to an ashram in India in 1990. It has also been informed by a subsequent period of service teaching meditation to prison inmates and expanded by his interest and research in neuroscience. An articulate and engaging public speaker, Stringer probes the dilemmas of the spirit with a wry and unorthodox sense of humor. His work intends to create a modern and participatory theatrical experience out of the venerable traditions of kirtan and yoga, open to a multiplicity of interpretations, and accessible to all.In the last decades, Yoga has grown from Indian roots into a global cultural phenomenon. Simultaneously, Kirtan, an ecstasy-inducing, call-and-response form of mantra chanting, has experienced a worldwide renaissance. Stringer and a diverse ensemble of accompanying musicians travel extensively, giving concerts, workshops and retreats worldwide. He was nominated for a Grammy® in 2016 for his work as the producer and co-writer of the album Bhakti Without Borders, and nominated as an artist for a Grammy® in 2023 for Mantra Americana along with collaborator Madi Das. Mantra Americana II was released Summer 2023 and Thrum, a recording of jazz-inflected duets in English with singer-songwriter Sheila Nicholls, is set for release in the Spring of 2024.www.davestringer.com www.theauriclecollective.com Host Bonnie Burkert melds the worlds of media and higher consciousness, sharing tools for transformation to find our highest truth and live our brightest life. https://www.instagram.com/yogi_bon/This show is part of the Spreaker Prime Network, if you are interested in advertising on this podcast, contact us at https://www.spreaker.com/show/3589860/advertisement

ArTEEtude. West Cork´s first Art, Fashion & Design Podcast by Detlef Schlich.
ArTEEtude is West Cork´s first art, fashion and design podcast created and produced by Detlef Schlich. He will dive and discover with us and the multi talent Kenny Dread into the unknown and exciting deep ocean of the creative mind. In this podcast, Dread and Schlich speak about Dread´s time as musician, stage-diving into the 1980's Washington D.C. punk-rock scene. He recorded go-go anthem D.C. Groove ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WHS7FYDDEVM ) with Static Disruptors in 1982 and toured the East Coast with go-go punks Outrage until 1987. The Static D's and Outrage brought the funk to new-wave clubs like CBGB and Danceteria and had the skinheads skanking at hardcore hall shows. Kenny Dread got his stage name touring ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?t=3589&v=RjBfz6azC28 ) and recording with the legendary Rastafari punk shaman and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame nominee H.R. ( http://hrdocumentary.com/ ) , lead singer of Bad Brains ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2pUlNfdnsAM ). During the 80's Kenny also promoted concerts and afterhours parties, produced records for D.C. punk groups ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ptlUWdZiXbM ) , performed with nyabinghi reggae godfather Ras Michael ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ixIEgQmbQYs ) , and recorded with English punk goddess Poly Styrene of X-Ray Spex ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DGROSJbCPV8 ). The early 90's found Kenny in the South of France performing with American expatriate rock band The Immigrants ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FmgY4wQgG2M ) , and collaborating with members of that group to create his first solo foray, the dreamy folk-rock Walkin' Down Your Street ( https://www.kennydread.com/music/walkin-down-your-street/ ). A slow motion move to the West of Ireland inspired a more acoustic mode: The rootsy singer-songwriter album Powderhorn ( https://www.kennydread.com/music/powderhorn/ ) was released in 1997 with contributions from Asian-American guitar wizard Levi Chen and Windham Hill harpist Lisa Lynne ( https://lisalynne.com/windham-hill-winter-solstice/ ) , as well as a licensed adaption of poetry by Michael Ondaatje ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ondaatje ) , author of The English Patient. Kirtan yoga chanting became a major focus from the turn of the century: Kenny Dread co-founded and produced Chicago chant ensemble Devi 2000 ( https://open.spotify.com/track/09Pxz5sRahmv2N0VdoGixt ) , and performed with kirtan dignitaries Dave Stringer and Bhagavan Das. Schlich is Visual Artist, Film Maker and Ritual Designer, living and loving in West Cork and best known for his Essay about the Cause and Effect of Shamanism, Art and Digital Culture and the video installation Transodin´s Tragedy. He is mainly working in the field of performance, photography, painting, sound, installations, and film. To research our human condition and create art work from this reflection he is using often the methodology of the digital-shaman as alter ego. Due to the pandemie and the following lock down Schlich had to stop his recent project, which was a digital crossover opera called Tribal Loop. Working on a new podcast concept and design, he produced and finally published the ArTEEtude podcast in August 2020.
In this first episode, Denis chats with husband & wife team Julie Preston & Victor Tyrrell. Denis has known Julie for many years as one of his first yoga teachers and thought it only fitting to have her and Victor launch the show. We talk yoga, bio-energy healing, leaning into the uncomfortable, being vulnerable, evolving as people through the practice of yoga and of course, celebrating the joy of life through the healing power of singing and chanting in kirtan. Recorded, Edited & Produced by Denis Jackson-Wade © Kirtan Recordings by Julie & Victor © Intro & Outro music composed by Purple Planet Music © TruYou Founder, and registered Yoga Alliance Senior Yoga Teacher, Julie Preston, has been practising yoga for more than 20 years and teaching since 2007. She has over 15,000 hours experience, sharing yoga with students ranging from 3 to 98 years old. Her passion lies in sharing authentic, accessible, holistic yogic practices adapted to meet you just as you are, with a focus on helping you come back home to your true self. For Julie, yoga is a way of life that goes far beyond the physical aspects of the practice. She loves that yoga has given her a toolkit to help manage day to day life with more peace, grace and connection. Julie's first taste of yoga was back in 1997 when her life had arrived at a crossroads and her health and wellbeing were at an all time low. Her experience of yoga at that time gave her a sense of inner peace that she'd never experienced before, and has kept her coming back to her mat ever since. In 2006 she waved goodbye to a high-flying London career and took off on an incredible journey of learning and self-discovery through Europe, USA, and Canada before arriving in India where she immersed herself in living a yogic life at an ashram in Kerala where she gained her first 200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teaching Certification. Since then Julie's dedicated yoga journey has taken her all over the globe, immersing herself in studying, practising, and gaining specialist qualifications. She has studied with many of the most highly regarded teachers in the world today, in a wide range of styles and approaches that have given her the necessary tools to meet students exactly as they are, as well as going deeper into her own personal development. Julie holds a 200 & 500 hour Yoga Alliance Advanced Teaching Qualification in Hatha Yoga, a 200 hour Vinyasa Yoga Certification, as well as specialist qualifications in Yoga Nidra, Pregnancy & Post Natal Yoga, Chair Yoga, Ayurvedic Yoga Therapy and Nutrition and Children's Yoga. Julie grew up studying music to degree level, and discovered Kirtan on her yoga journey - it's also how she met her musician husband Vic! Together they lead the TruYou Kirtan Sessions - a musical call and response form of chanting for healing and meditation that quietens the mind, and opens the heart. They've had the honour of performing several times with grammy-nominated international Kirtan artist Dave Stringer, and spend time annually with their Kirtan mentor, Jai Uttal, one of the most well-known and beloved kirtan artists in the world today. When Julie isn't busy practising and teaching yoga, she loves time in nature, pottering in the garden and growing her own organic veg, cooking healthy plant-based meals, and walking her rescued Bali street dog, Chani. She loves nothing more than hanging out with her husband Vic reading inspiring books, or just catching a fun movie together, with Chani cuddles on the sofa. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/spacesbetweenus/message
