MaXXXine may be the third film in a downright wild and blood-soaked horror series, but given the fact that the trilogy heavily pays homage to the evolution of cinema, there's an abundance of very real connections one can make between the state of the industry depicted in these films and where things truly are at present. In fact, there's one especially prominent one for Primetime Emmy nominee Elizabeth Debicki. In MaXXXine, she plays the only film director willing to take a chance on Mia Goth's title character. As Debicki explained during our Collider Ladies Night conversation, finding filmmakers who believe in you is of the utmost importance to making it in Hollywood. After the events of X, MaXXXine follows Maxine Minx to Hollywood in the 80s where she plans to become a star. Maxine is convinced she's got the talent and determination to make it in the movies, but given her notoriety in the adult film realm, getting her big break has been impossible — until she meets Debicki's character, Elizabeth Bender. Even though the producers of Elizabeth's new movie would rather not have Maxine headlining the film, Elizabeth believes in her and insists on giving her the opportunity. While many might be quick to highlight Baz Luhrmann as the person who took a chance on Debicki and sent her star soaring with The Great Gatsby, Debicki herself insists he's not the only one. Yes, Luhrmann did give her her first lead role in a feature film, but Debicki insists directors taking a chance on actors never ends. “Yeah, you need to be good at your job, but it's also a real combination of timing and people believing in you enough to give you the job.” Hosted on Acast. Send us a Text Message. This week TGTPTU goes deeper into Season 12's NOLAN VOID with TENET (2020), a title spelled the same forward and backward, and the progenitor of TGTPTU's “temporal pincer movement” description of our podcast's episode pairing methodology.Instead of spoiling the episode with notes, here's a transcript spoiling cohost Thomas' plot summary:We're following one main person, played by John David Washington, who gets his guy but when he returns to get rid of bombs, he himself is saved by someone who is not from his crew nor the police nor of the terrorists but has a noticeable red charm like for identifying airport luggage on his pack.Unfortunately when he gets back to the van, Washington's undercover character appears to have been made, and so he's getting his teeth pulled out at a train depot and is unable to take his cyanide pill but his buddy is able to slip him his and our protagonist is not dead but awakens with new teeth and has passed his test as the suicide pill was not real. Instead, it was all test; he's now considered dead and can pursue a deeper danger that is only known as “Tenet” (and interlocking fingers).Because of arms dealing or something, Protagonist meets his handler Neil (Robert Pattinson) who knows all about Protagonist, including that he prefers cola to soda water. They slingshot themselves onto an impenetrable building to meet an arms dealer who informs Protagonist the real baddie is a Russian oligarch who's getting info from the future.Protagonist travels to brunch with Michael Caine who plays Michael Caine to inform Protagonist that his entry point to the oligarch is his wife Katherine “Kat” Barton (Elizabeth Debicki) who had an art scam she's being blackmailed for by her husband, so she meets Protagonist for dinner and husband oligarch (still unseen) isn't happy and his goons arrive to take Protagonist into the kitchen to rough him up but instead get the business end of a cheese grater from Protagonist. So now we're at like Minute 40 and it's a two-and-half-hour movie.Oh, Branaugh's got a fitness tracker, the radioactive material from heist is really the final piece from the future's doomsday device that might not be set off in the future as Branaugh now has all the pieces and that fitness tracker is a deadman's switch so Washington's Protagonist and an army with turnstyle technology on a boat and Pattinson's Neil get divided into two teams (one going forward, one backward) to raid the facility with the device while Debicki's Kat is on a yacht with Branaugh to keep him from suiciding, although she wants to kill him.Neil swaps sides between forward and backwards during the attack to save the day and, after saving the day because it hasn't happened yet from one timeline maybe, needs to go back to the past—and his likely death (although Protagonist keeps this information compartmentalized).Neil lets Protagonist know they will be friends in the future because that's where he's from and Protagonist notices a red doohickey we saw from the Opera scene. Movie continues because there was a cell phone and we find out that Protagonist appears to have mastered timey-wimey things because he saves Kat from being killed by the arms dealer from earlier to protect the Tenet secret by killing the arms dealer first, and everything's fine and there are no repercussions. Yay!Oh, spoilers. But you already knew that. Or you will.THEME SONG BY: WEIRD A.I.Email: thegoodthepodandtheugly@gmail.comFacebook: https://m.facebook.com/TGTPTUInstagram: https://instagram.com/thegoodthepodandtheugly?igshid=um92md09kjg0Twitter: https://twitter.com/thegoodthepoda1YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6mI2plrgJu-TB95bbJCW-gB

PODCAST EPISODE 48: Peter Debicki, The Polish Beekeeper, from Burrumbeet, Victoria, Australia It's a strange phenomenon, but sometimes in life you repeatedly get drawn to a place and you are unsure why. People from that country or city seem to enter your life, time and again. And each of them feels strangely comfortable, as do their stories, their foods, their ways and mannerisms. Poland is one of those places for me. It pops up time and again, calling out to me, reminding me of the marvels that exist beyond Australia shores. Another strange but special phenomenon: some people really shine as beautiful souls. I have been lucky enough to have met a number of beaming, gorgeous humans with delightful positive attitudes in my time on Earth, and Peter Debicki – also known simply as “The Polish Beekeeper” – is, without a doubt, one of the best. Having immigrated to Australia from Poland when he was just ten years old, Peter has much knowledge to offer about local beekeeping and European beekeeping. You see, just as I have a soft spot for Pete, I also have a soft spot for Poland – having worked for some months with Weronika Wasiak, who worked alongside me for Ben's Bees during her time in Australia. I feel a sense of connection to the place. It is a destination that is definitely right up there on my post-COVID jet setting, global-beekeeping to-travel-to list! Now Peter the Polish beekeeper is a popular fella – I have had a bunch of people ask me to introduce him to the Ben's Bees community for some time. A beekeeper from Burrumbeet near Ballarat in Victoria, Peter has a loyal social media following with fans from all over the country and the world. A sweet and knowledgeable guy, Peter and his bees make delicious honey and help out people when a swarm hits or there is a beekeeping dilemma that needs expert attention. It is therefore my complete pleasure to welcome Peter Debicki, The Polish Beekeeper, to the BEES WITH BEN podcast for episode 48. Tune in to hear Pete and I talk about Poland, Lyson and Paradise hives, and strange phenomena, including the one when Peter witnessed his bees dragging the parts of a deceased mouse skeleton, bone by bone, from their hive! https://www.instagram.com/thepolishbeekeeper/

¡Hola Crononautas!

Learn Land Investing: https://landinvestingpros.com If you have been following my weekly emails or watching my videos you should know that I feel very strongly that investing in vacant land is the best way to get started in real estate. There are so many great benefits, including lack of competition, major discounts, and huge potential upside that is unique to this investing niche. I began my journey investing in vacant land 3 years ago and have been on a wild ride that I was not expecting: I did not expect to be able to purchase property at such discounts, I did not expect to be able to build an online business at scale the way I have, and I certainly did not expect to serve so many customers like you in such a time frame. I truly did not comprehend the value that others would see in providing discounted property on the market. It turns out the secret to my success has been largely sourcing hugely discounted property - then secondly marketing and selling the property online (which it turns out is not that hard!). The system that I have built is easily duplicatable and frankly I am not special! I just happened to follow a process that works and have stayed focused on the mission of offering the widest variety of discount vacant land on the market for the areas where I have invested in. Please subscribe to this podcast if you enjoy the content and would like to see future videos similar to this one!

WIDOWS starring Viola Davis was greatly undersold, under-marketed, and under-promoted. It was an AMAZING ride from beginning to end! There were so many twists and turns that you won’t blink your eye until the end. It’s definitely worth your time and only a shame that we missed it on the big screen! Take a listen and let us know if you agree or not.

The duo dig deep into the stellar performances, notably those of Viola Davis, Elizabeth Debicki and Daniel Kaluuya. Praise is also given to McQueen for his efficient story-telling and unique direction. Lastly, the co-hosts contemplate the one missing piece of this crime thriller, debating whether the social commentary outshone the more classic thriller aspects that audiences might have been expecting.

The Filmlosophers, Eddie Villanueva, Chad Riley and Spencer Williams, screw up time and space with this week's review of The Cloverfield Paradox (2018). The surprise third installment of JJ Abrams' Cloverfield-verse, which dropped on Super Bowl Sunday on Netflix, is a cautionary tale that somewhat ties together the previous films in the series, Cloverfield (2008) and 10 Cloverfield Lane (2016). Even against a backdrop that includes a global energy crisis and tinkering with the multiverse with an out-of-this-world particle accelerator, the film's strength lies in its impressive cast and diverse characters. The Cloverfield Paradox stars Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Daniel Brühl, Zhang Ziyi, David Oyelowo, Elizabeth Debicki and more.
Crooked Table Podcast - The world of film from a fresh angle
In Episode 74 of the Crooked Table Podcast, Robert Yaniz Jr. and Freddy Yaniz pop into the world of Netflix for a discussion of what they've been watching on the ubiquitous streaming service, including principally an in-depth review of surprise sequel The Cloverfield Paradox. Ten years after the franchise started with a found-footage monster movie, the J.J. Abrams-produced space horror show makes it way into subscribers' homes immediately following the conclusion of the Big Game. But is the marketing gimmick worth the gamble, or is Clover herself due for a cinematic fall from grace? Here we answer that question and look toward the future of the Cloverfield franchise, including this fall's fourth entry. We’re excited to hear your feedback as the Crooked Table Podcast continues to evolve. As usual, the show does feature explicit language and, as such, is best considered NSFW. Thanks for listening! Ang Lee's Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk is the first film to utilise a shooting and projection frame rate of 120 frames per second in 3D at 4K HD resolution. In a drama which tells the story of American war heroes on leave from Iraq, will audiences be won over by what Ang Lee calls a " new immersive cinema?" Vietnamese American writer Viet Thanh Nguyen won the Pullitzer Prize for his debut novel The Sympathizer about the Vietnam war. His new book of short stories, The Refugees, draws heavily on his own experience of arriving in America having fled Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Bruegel's Defining A Dynasty at The Holburne Museum in Bath is the UK's first exhibition devoted to the Bruegel dynasty and brings together 35 works produced by four different generations of the family. A key work in the exhibition is the Wedding Dance in the Open Air, an oil painting from the Holburne's own collection which, following conservation work and technical examination, can be attributed firmly to the hand of Pieter Bruegel the Younger. The Kettering Incident is a new 8 part series on Sky Atlantic starring Elizabeth Debicki who played opposite Tom Hiddleston in BBC's hit drama The Night Manager. Shot entirely on location in Tasmania, The Kettering Incident follows a doctor (Debicki) who returns to her home town after several years overseas, only to find herself at the centre of a mystery surrounding the disappearance of a young girl. Stefan Zweig's 1938 novel Ungueld des Herzens (Beware of Pity) brings together two of Europe's most boundary-pushing, imaginative theatre companies at the Barbican for the first time. Theatre de Complicite's Simon McBurney directs the outstanding Berlin theatre company Schaubühne in a story of a doomed romance set in the Austro-Hungarian empire just before the first world war.
