The four greatest roleplayers from the ancient city of Carcosa RETURN to the Rosemary Branch Theatre for further self-abasement at the altar of the Great Old Ones. Combining the Call of Cthulhu tabletop roleplaying game with improvisational sorcery, the award-winning Apocalypse Players will take their sacrificial offerings (that's you, the audience) to the brink of sanity, but who will crack first!?” Hope to see you there! The Apocalypse Players is an actual play (or live play) TTRPG podcast focused on horror tabletop roleplaying games. Think Dimension 20 or Critical Role, but fewer dragons, more eldritch horrors, and more British actors taking their roleplaying very seriously (most of the time). Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Necronomicon (1993), and Gods of the Deep (2023) While Stephen King may dominate when it comes to movie adaptations of his work—good or bad—one might expect that H.P. Lovecraft, given his immense impact on the literary world, would inspire just as many films. Yet, despite his influence, far fewer movies have been made from his stories than you'd think. Perhaps it's because Lovecraft's horror isn't about the details of what his characters see, but rather what those horrors do to them—often driving them into madness. And therein lies the beauty of his work. In this episode, we dive into three very different films, spanning three decades, each drawing from the strange and unsettling tales of this enigmatic author from Providence, Rhode Island. If you're not well-versed in Lovecraft's work, this is your chance to experience three adaptations—loose as they may be—that offer a glimpse into his nightmarish imagination. Films Mentioned in this Episode: Castle Freak (1995), Color Out of Space (2019), Creepshow (1982), The Crimson Blade (1963), Crying Freeman (1995), Demon Wind (1990), The Devil-Ship Pirates (1964), Die, Monster, Die! (1965), Dracula Prince of Darkness (1966), The Dunwich Horror (1970), The Evil Dead (1981), From Beyond (1986), Gamera, Guardian of the Universe (1995), Gods of the Deep (2023), Hatchet (2006), The Haunted Palace (1963), Humanoids from the Deep (1981), In the Mouth of Madness (1994), The Invisible Ray (1935), Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988), Leprechaun (1993), Leprechaun 2 (1994), Leprechaun 4: In Space (1996), Leprechaun 5: In the Hood (2000), Leprechaun 6: Back 2 Tha Hood (2003), Lovecraft Country (2020), Lurking Fear (1994), Necronomicon (1993), Re-Animator (1985), Return of the Living Dead III (1993), The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975), The Unnamable (1988), Vampyres (1974)

Présentée par Jeff. Partie THE GREAT OLD ONES à 00:35:24 Pour son nouvel opus, The Great Old Ones quitte le mythe de Cthulhu pour s'aventurer vers un autre pan de l'univers d'H.P. Lovecraft.

This lecture discusses key ideas from the early 20th century weird and horror story writer, H.P. Lovecraft's short story "The Call of Cthulhu", a classic work of cosmic horror and absolutely central to what will later come to be called the Cthulhu mythos. It focuses specifically on one of the key settings referenced in the work, the vast city of R'Lyeh, where Cthulhu and other Great Old Ones lie dead but dreaming, communicating with human beings in times when the stars are not right. We learn about R'lyeh first in the dreams of Wilcox and the account of the prisoner Castro, and then we get a short glimpse of it in the account set down by Johansen To support my ongoing work, go to my Patreon site - www.patreon.com/sadler If you'd like to make a direct contribution, you can do so here - www.paypal.me/ReasonIO - or at BuyMeACoffee - www.buymeacoffee.com/A4quYdWoM You can find over 3000 philosophy videos in my main YouTube channel - www.youtube.com/user/gbisadler Read The Call of Cthulhu - https://www.hplovecraft.com/writings/texts/fiction/cc.aspx

It focuses specifically on what we learn of the cult of Cthulhu (and to a lesser extent) the other Great Old Ones, which according to the information provided by Castro, has existed among human beings from the start, spurred by communications in dreams from the Old Ones and the idols of them brought down from the stars. This week, I'm joined by Simon Lucas from Winterfylleth for a long-awaited discussion covering a variety of topics. We dive into the enthusiastic reception of the band's latest album, “The Imperious Horizon,” and explore his journey as a documentary filmmaker, his drumming inspirations, the glory days of the UK live music scene, and even get into some hi-fi talk. In my weekly news rant, I round up the latest singles by Abduction, Ante-Inferno, The Great Old Ones, Cradle of Filth, and more, for judgement. Additionally, I shine a spotlight on the unsigned band Zuvembie Necroneon and share my thoughts on noteworthy new releases by Mother of Graves, Black Curse, Gigan, and Gaerea. ▶️SUPPORT THE BANDS FEATURED ON THIS EPISODE Winterfylleth https://winterfylleth.bandcamp.com/ Mother of Graves https://motherofgraves.bandcamp.com/ Danzig http://danzig-verotik.com/ ▶️SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST https://youtube.com/c/IntoTheNecrosphere ▶️STREAM & DOWNLOAD Amazon Music https://amzn.to/3epNJ4K Spotify https://spoti.fi/3iKqbIP Apple Podcasts https://apple.co/38wDYhi ▶️SOCIAL MEDIA Facebook https://www.facebook.com/intothenecrosphere Instagram https://www.instagram.com/intothenecrosphere Twitter https://twitter.com/inecrosphere ▶️INTO THE NECROSPHERE MERCH https://into-the-necrosphere.creator-spring.com ▶️THE HORSEMEN OF THE PODCASTING APOCALYPSE Horrorwolf666 https://thehorrorwolf666podcast.buzzsprout.com/ Everything Went Black https://everythingwentblack.podbean.com/ Necromaniacs https://necromaniacs.podbean.com/ Sol Nox https://www.solnoxpodcast.podbean.com/ Iblis Manifestations https://linktr.ee/iblismanifestationspodcast

At this meeting, Inspector Legrasse asks the attendees to help him identify a strange stone statue found at a cult meeting that they broke up. None of the men have any idea what the stone could be made from and they ask Legrasse to tell how he came upon it. Legrasse then tells the whole group about how he and his men went into the swamp nearby where there had been rumours of people disappearing and strange shouting's. They broke up the meeting and arrested 47 members who informed him that they worshiped the "Great Old Ones" and await the return of a Monstrous Priest called "Cthulhu." After this story is told, a Princeton Professor pipes up saying that he came across a group of Esquimaux in the north who had a very similar belief and fetish. Welcome to the 6th episode of the Paranormal Rundown! Here at The Paranormal Rundown we have been making some changes. You may have noticed! We have settled on a more standard intro and outro, music, some very creative characters (Cedric and Avalon Lee) from the depths of Vic's super creative mind, and even an email for feedback (where we would LOVE to hear from you!). But something was still missing. There is a certain feel that we have all noticed about some of the Rundown episodes. It is a feeling of excitement, a bit of a rush, a moment where we realize that we are way out on some crazy topic that is nowhere near where we started, but every step we took to get there was an absolute feast for the mind and soul. This is a feeling we would like to capture again and again. We want to set the show up in a way that gets us there regularly. It's not that the other episodes weren't great, as we have enjoyed all of them. But these episodes are, as Vic likes to say: Lightning in a Bottle! To further that end, we have decided to expand the team. Not only would this give us a little broader set of experiences to pull from when we dont have a guest, it would also add an additional perspective for the many topics on our every growing list (1666 at the current count). The decision about who to ask was just about the easiest we have every had to make! Father Michael Birdsong. Father Mike had so much fun with us in episode 2, and his enthusiasm for the format of the show and the huge variety of topics was unparalleled. Fortunately, it seems like the decision to join us was as easy for him as it was for us. So for episode 6, we bring back Father Michael Birdsong as a permanent member of the team. As mentioned in episode 2, Father Mike is the pastor of St. Michael and All Angels Church in Thomaston, GA, a member of the Charismatic Episcopal Church. In addition to his other duties, he functions as an exorcist for the Diocese as needed. His experience fighting evil and helping those who are Opressed or Possesed, along with the education and research he had to do for that ministry, gives him invaluable experience that touches a broad range of paranormal topics. Beyond his experience Father Mike has an energy to him, an enthusiasm for the show that is infectious. We know that you are going to love having him on future episodes as much as we do.For this episode we discuss Gnosticism, Levels of Heaven (including Walmart Heaven), Gnostic Magick, Horror Movies Good and Bad, The Great Old Ones, Black Eyed Children, Midnight Ice Cream Trucks, The Paintings at the Denver Airport, Reincarnation, and more. So please help us give Father Mike a warm welcome, and enjoy the show!If you would like to get in touch with us, please email us at feedback@paranormalrundown.com, we would love to hear from you!The Paranormal Rundown is a partnership between the hosts David Griffith, JJ Johnson, Father Michael Birdsong, and Vic Hermanson.Be sure to check out our partner podcasts:You can find JJ at Southern Demonology, https://www.southerndemonology.comYou can find Vic at Trailer Trash Terrors, https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/vic-hermansonYou can find Father Birdsong at https://www.becomingahouseofprayer.com Hosted on Acast. * Our last Horrors episode: Verjigorm * The “Big One”, the “Hunter of Great Dragons”, Earthdawn's Great Cthulhu * One of three Named Horrors from the original core rulebook. * Entry is very similar to the entry in the Dragons sourcebook. * The “Dark One”, at the beginning, spawned the “Horoi” * One Horoi – Nightstlayer – left the darkness and woke on Earth, saw its beauty, and wept the Nammegivers into being. * Josh speculates how this creation myth might reflect events in the distant past. * Not necessarily intended to be a foe to face directly; like the Great Old Ones from Lovecraft. * Early stats were likely a way to impress how powerful it is. * Summary of game statistics and powers. * Not very active in most recent Scourge, but looms very large in the setting. * Use and presence of Verjigorm in games – Cult of the Great Hunter * Getting involved with this Horror will likely draw the attention of the dragons. * Obsessions: Hunger for power, fanatical hatred of dragons. * Captured numerous dragons during the last Scourge. * This prey is wrapped in astral cocoons that warp them into Horror-corrupted entities. * Verjigorm's spawn as a campaign focus and epic opponent. * Exploring Verjigorm's Horror Thread power. * Lovecraft parallels and cosmic nihilism. * More than just a giant sack of hit points. * Most common appearance. * Closing thoughts. In this spooky episode of the It's A Mimic! podcast, this panel of Dungeon Masters is going to look at three kinds of Warlock Patrons that most people tend to overlook: The Celestial, The Undead, and The Fathomless. But unlike Great Old Ones, and Fiends, these Patrons tend to not be demigods, but rather creatures of immense power. https://astralcodexten.substack.com/p/zounds-its-zulresso-and-zuranolone How excited should we be about the latest class of antidepressants? 1: What is Zulresso? Wikipedia describes Zulresso as “A bat-winged, armless toad with tentacles instead of a face... ” - no! sorry! That's Zvilpogghua, one of the Great Old Ones from the Lovecraft mythos. Zulresso is the brand name of allopregnanolone (aka brexanolone), a new medication for post-partum depression. It's interesting as a potential missing link between hormones and normal mood regulation. 2: What do you mean by “missing link between hormones and normal mood regulation?” Allopregnanolone is a naturally-occuring metabolite of the female hormone progesterone. In 1981, scientists found it was present in unusually high concentrations in the brain (including male brains), suggesting that maybe the brain was making it separately and using it for something. They did some tests and found that it was a positive allosteric modulator of GABA.
