We've been busy exploring other planes of reality, but we're back just in time to talk about the cinematic event that is Zack Snyder's Sucker Punch - Extended Edition, of course! We're joined by friend of the pod and a Babydoll himself, one of the hosts of the Spectre Cinema Club, Tainted Love, and the Pod and the Pendulum podcasts, DeVaughn Taylor! We talk insane asylums, lobotomies, a killer soundtrack, and wonder how long Babydoll is actually supposed to be dancing anyway? We also dig into the controversial nature of how this film is seen - as well as 3 cisgender men can, at any rate. Tune in as DeVaughn Taylor (Specter Cinema Club, The Pod and the Pendulum) teams up with Arthur to break down The Butterfly Effect, the 2004 sci-fi timey-wimey thriller that follows college student Evan Treborn on his zigzagging quest to travel through time and give himself and his loved ones the happiest lives possible. The 2000s-era ways in which this deals with surprisingly dark material, the outrageously evil depiction of one Tommy Miller, and the extra details of the director's cut and the alternate endings comprise some of the topics for this episode. Directed by Eric Bress and J. Mackye Gruber, The Butterfly Effect stars Ashton Kutcher, Amy Smart, Melora Walters, Elden Henson, William Lee Scott, Eric Stoltz, Ethan Suplee, Logan Lerman, John Patrick Amedori, Irina Gorovaia, Kevin G. Schmidt, Jesse James, Nathaniel DeVeaux, Kevin Durand, Callum Keith Rennie, Cameron Bright, Lorena Gale, and Camille Sullivan. This week we embark on a new cinematic journey and for the first time we travel back to one of the foundations of horror as we begin our exploration of the Frankenstein franchise. Adapted from the classic novel by Mary Shelley, James Whale created one of the true masterpieces of early horror cinema. Alongside Dracula, Frankenstein demonstrated that genre films could not only be artistic masterpieces but proved such box office successes that they could keep studios afloat. For the first of our two episodes on the original Frankenstein movie Mike is joined by Brian Keiper and Devaughn Taylor in the co-host chairs along with special guest Garrett McDowell who is Devaughn's cohost on the Spector Cinema pod. On this episode we talk about our personal histories with the Universal Monsters and relationship with Frankenstein and why Frankenstein called to us during our formative journeys as budding horror fans. After that Brian and Mike discuss the long and laborious road Frankenstein took to the silver screen. From a twenty-one-year-old nepo-baby, Carl Laemmelle Jr, getting handed the keys to Universal and making monster movies when no one else believed in them to an unknown journeyman named Boris becoming one of the first icons of horror, it's a fascinating trip to the screen. Join us for part two in a few days as DeVaughn and Garrett return to discuss their thoughts on the film as a whole. Please read Brian's "Faces of Frankenstein: The Innovation and Influence of James Whale's Frankenstein" or more information on this seminal film. On June 30th four podcasters set out to break down the greatest horror movie ever made. What happened to them is tragic, even more so because they were young. This fifth Thursday Jenn, Lara and Mike are taking a much needed break. For listeners of both shows, this is a double dip as Mike is presenting the uncut version of his latest Pod and the Pendulum episode. Along with regulars Brian Keiper, Devaughn Taylor and guest Nichole Goble, Mike tackles Tobe Hooper's classic from top to bottom. From an exploration to the social, economic, and political climate that influenced the making of the film; to reimagining the stench, sweat and bloodshed that went on in front of and behind the scenes; tackling whether Franklin is annoying or misunderstood; to why this holds up almost fifty years later; no armadillo is left unturned. Do you want to play? This week we kick off a brand new franchise with a look back at the 1988 slasher film Child's Play. Chucky might be small in stature, but this pint sized horror was no joke-at least not in this first installment which plays the horror straight. Mike is joined by Rachel Reeves, Jessica Scott and Devaughn Taylor to talk about what makes this such a classic 80s horror and why it still continues on today. One thing that helps, having the series and character spearheaded by one person since its inception. We talk about Don Mancini's original idea for the character, what changed and how he adapted to make it work. We discuss Tom Holland's Hitchcockian flair from the director's seat, as well as Kevin Yager's MVP status in creating a true marvel in animatronics. It wouldn't be like us if we didn't get sidetracked so tune in for discussions on how "hobo horror" had a real moment in the 80s, traumatizing children's toys, and so much more.

DeVaughn talks about the film's endlessly quotable script, Harmony embraces the killer soundtrack, and BJ fondly remembers her teen bible--gurl (dot) com. -----Article DiscussedI'm sorry to tell you this but Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging is completely messed up: https://thetab.com/uk/2019/07/04/am-i-the-only-person-who-thinks-angus-thongs-and-perfect-snogging-is-actually-messed-up-108356-----Follow DeVaughn Taylor online: @_daddydiscoListen to The Bloody Blunts Cinema Club: @BloodyBluntsCC-----Become a Patron! www.patreon.com/thisendsatpromFind the show on Twitter & Instagram: @ThisEndsAtPromBJ Colangelo —Twitter & Instagram: @BJColangeloHarmony Colangelo — Twitter & Instagram: @Veloci_trap_tor-----Logo Design: Haley Doodles @HaleyDoodleDoTheme Song: The Sonder Bombs 'Title': https://thesonderbombs.bandcamp.com/
This week we kick off a new franchise with the closes thing to the Marvel-verse horror has offered since the Universal films of the 30s and 40s. We're exploring THE CONJURING, James Wan's supernatural chiller based on the "true" case files of Ed and Lorraine Warren. We explore what actually constitutes truth and how much it's okay to bend it to tell a great story. We're joined by DeVaughn Taylor of The Bloody Blunts Cinema Club podcast to discuss a film we all mostly enjoy. From creepy dolls like Annabelle to crafting a well-timed jump scare, Wan gets more right than wrong, even if he lionizes a pair of hucksters and charlatans. For this week's episode, we're headed to Los Angeles to become stars in the fashion industry with Nicolas Winding Refn's The Neon Demon (2016). Tagging along for the cannibalism and the necrophilia is Bloody Blunts Cinema Club's DeVaughn Taylor who has a unique appreciation for spooky nonsense and has a pretty killer theory about what Ruby, Sarah and Gigi are really up to. In this gritty reboot of an episode you loved growing up, special guest DeVaughn Taylor challenges Vanessa and Elijah to find the perfect martial arts pairing for one of the best horror reboots of the decade, Evil Dead (2013). After lamenting the extended Necronomicon-verse that could have been, Vanessa and Elijah counter with the relentlessly paced Broken Path (AKA Broken Fist, AKA Attack Of The Yakuza). But what does this obscure low-budget martial arts movie have in common with a modern horror masterpiece? Would Elijah read from the Necronomicon? And what is Vanessa’s ranking of all the A Star Is Born movies? The official snack pairing for Evil Dead (2013) and Broken Path is a big turkey leg from specifically Six Flags, and a cherry slushie spiked with sake. This episode was brought to you by turkey carvers. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/vanessa-gritton/support

This week, DeVaughn Taylor of the Bloody Blunts podcast joins Mike and Lindsay to talk about one of their collective favorite horror films of the past ten years: SINISTER. We travel down a pretty winding road this week as we talk about finding footage that's not found footage, killer kids, family annihilators, the problems with true crime as entertainment, the pros and cons of jump scares, suburban paranoia, Daddy Hawke and his cardigan, and so much more.

Enjoy the trailer for the Bloody Blunts Cinema Club! Every Tuesday, join me (DeVaughn Taylor) as I get high and breakdown all my favorite horror/genre films: whether it be one movie, two, or a whole franchise. Aside from the occasional guests, the Bloody Blunts Cinema Club is meant to be an intimate experience: just you & I smoking a J, chatting about weird movies (except I'm the one doing all the talking but trust me, I have enough thoughts & theories for the both of us. Also, no pressure to smoke with me either, you're still welcome here). And just like a book club, I will let you know the movies in advance so you can go deep and analyze them with me (there will ALWAYS be spoilers). Sit back, relax, and puff puff pass that spooky shit! About me: I'm a creative artist based out of Los Angeles, primarily a photographer/filmmaker. I've written about horror movies for Nightmare on Film Street and a few other websites for the past 5 years or so. I hosted my own movie podcast a few years ago (Deezus Take the Reel) for a year, so I'm not exactly a new kid on the block. However, I'm not a critic or expert: just a creator who consumes A LOT of content, primarily genre films. And like most stoners, I think I'm pretty hilarious. Hopefully a few of you think so too, stay lifted my horror homies! https://twitter.com/blooodyblunts (Twitter) https://instagram.com/blooodyblunts (Instagram) https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCMuWawbJAjuhtAuGjOgqltg?view_as=subscriber (YouTube)
