On today's episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast, we're talking about online learning with my guest Craig Swanson. At the age of 18, Craig founded Swanson Tech Support and worked as a tech consultant for 6 years before founding CreativeTechs which lead to over a million dollars in sales. Soon after Craig co-founded the creative online learning platform CreativeLive, an idea that was birthed from a failed video training program for his IT business. CreativeLive would grow from a small start-up team to 70+ employees offering workshops with top industry leaders like Tim Ferriss and Brené Brown. Now Craig partners with creators, educators, and influencers by providing the missing piece that they need to get to the next stage of their business and is helping build $1 million dollar businesses one step at a time. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Divine Social. On today's episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast, we're talking about quilting as an art practice with my guest Heidi Parkes. Heidi Parkes was born into this world the proud recipient of a collaborative family quilt, organized by her grandmother. Now, Heidi lives in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and works within the quilt world, the art world, and the maker's movement. Hand piecing and hand quilting imbue her work with the personal, and contribute to her themes of diary, self-help, materiality, and abstraction. Heidi recently completed a yearlong ARTservancy artist's residency, is a two-time Mary Nohl Fellowship finalist, and has received multiple awards from the Modern Quilt Guild. Heidi lectures and teaches with a passion for the beginner, and her unique improvisational style promotes the qualities of allowing, savoring, hinting, manifesting, and documenting. Whether on-site or via a self-hosted workshop on her website, Heidi incorporates hand yoga and body care as an essential component of learning to sew. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Divine Social, a marketing agency for craft and DIY enthusiasts. On today's episode of the Craft Industry Alliance podcast, we're talking about creating craft studios for kids with my guest Nicola Day, owner of the kids' crafts studios, HipStitch. Nicola has been sewing since she was 11 years old when she learned to sew at school. Sewing has always been part of her life. In college, sewing for people helped her to make money to support herself. After college, she designed a line of pocketbooks and sold them all over the US in boutiques. When her daughter was born, she wanted her to be as passionate about sewing but found there was no studio in my town and so she founded Hipstitch, a sewing and craft studio for children in Newton, Massachusetts. HipStitch has been in business now for 12 years, opening its second location in Wellesley and a third location is due to open in January in Brookline. HipStitch has expanded its offerings to include knitting, crochet, and fiber arts as well as their own DIY hand and machine kits to create at home. In addition to offering classes at their studios, they offer the program offsite to 15 schools in Newton, Wellesley, Weston, Cambridge, and Brookline. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Divine Social. Today on the show we're talking about building a quilting empire with my guest Jenny Doan. Jenny Doan is the smiling face of Missouri Star Quilt Company. Stitching together simplified quilts full of love and laughter, she makes quilting easier, more accessible, and friendlier than ever before. Watching her tutorials feels like coming home again. With over 750,000 YouTube subscribers and more than 230 million views to date, Jenny has sparked enthusiasm for quilting and warmed her viewer's hearts across the globe. When she moved with her growing family to Missouri over 20 years ago, she never imagined that someday they'd have a successful quilting business. Like many small towns across America, employment was scarce, so in November 2008, on a modest budget, the Doan family bought a building in Hamilton and started Missouri Star Quilt Company. At first they offered basic quilting supplies and machine quilting services, but business picked up when they started posting videos of Jenny teaching quilting tutorials online. From that time on her life changed forever. Almost 13 years later, Jenny now teaches quilting tutorials on YouTube once a week and continues to share her story everywhere she goes. It's a labor of love and a dream come true for her. Hamilton, Missouri, has become a quilter's paradise, attracting visitors from around the world. With the help of Jenny's husband, Ron, her seven children, and 25 grandchildren, this family business has grown to include an entire community. +++++ This episode is sponsored by Divine Social. Social Media strategies to increase profitability with Traci Reuter I have just recently done a YouTube video, talking about how social media popularity does not equal profitability. Reach is important and all those things are important, but the end of the day, it's got to be the right people. We look at the customer journey, like what's the typical customer journey? The only way to stay on top of the constant changes and be world-class is to just laser focus. We start with the end in mind. If you think out of every 100 people, two are going to buy, what are your plan and your strategy for the other 98? If you're going to invest in marketing, then invest in utilizing all of the tools to the best of their ability, so you can increase your likelihood of growing your business, growing your profits, growing your bottom line. That branding piece, even though we might not be getting a huge ROI upfront, long term, the ROI, it's amazing what we're seeing. That whole concept of warming up your audience beforehand, it really, really can make such an impact when you're ready to pull the trigger on an offer. You have to have a long game mindset for this to really work for you. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES TO INCREASE PROFITABILITY [just click to tweet] SOCIAL MEDIA STRATEGIES TO INCREASE PROFITABILITY Social Media popularity does not equal profitability. _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ Doug Morneau: Well, welcome back listeners to another episode of Real Marketing Real Fast. Today, I'm super excited to have Traci Reuter in studio joining us today. She is the Founder and the CEO of a company called Divine Social. She is passionate about supporting businesses in growing their brands through authentic, meaningful social media advertising. Traci has the uncanny gift for looking at any business's mission, vision, and message and mapping out the right social media strategy to get their brand in front of the right people at the right time. I so enjoyed our conversation, speaking with somebody who has sales and marketing experience that's in the advertising space. She has 25 years of sales and marketing experience and she really knows her stuff when we start talking about high-level marketing strategy. Traci combined her tactical knowledge of social media advertising, so she can write the recipe for any brand’s success and hopefully, you'll enjoy the conversation as much as I did. She shared some of her greatest secrets behind mapping out your own powerful social media advertising strategy. With that said, I like to welcome Traci Reuter to the Real Marketing Real Fast Podcast today. Well, hey Traci, I'm super excited to have you on the show today, so welcome to the Real Marketing Real Fast Podcast today. Traci Reuter: Well, thanks for having me, Doug. I'm super excited to be here. Doug Morneau: I was excited because when I was looking at your background before we logged on and when I first was introduced to you, I thought, “Wow, what an amazing story.” You're working in an area that I absolutely love, which is sales and marketing, but you're doing it from a paid point of view and not a strategy, how do I get more Facebook likes and followers? Do you want to just fill in the blanks a little bit on what your agency does and kind of what sets you apart from everyone else? Traci Reuter: Yeah that's a great thing the way lead off with that. I have just recently done a YouTube video, talking about how social media popularity does not equal profitability. That's probably the biggest reason why my agency is what it is. I've been doing actually background in marketing, had a degree in marketing several years ago, many moons ago and then, went to work for here in the States, a Fortune 10 company, a small little telecommunications company most people have heard of, called AT&T. I led a sales division there for several years.

Business Building InsightsIf you’re building a profitable business, having a mindset to invest in a Facebook strategy and advertising is a good thing. It’s not an expense, it’s an investment. The pillars of social advertising: audience growth, engagement, and conversion. Always think about how you can increase the number of people who are aware of you – who have seen what you do. As part of your Facebook strategy, show your products through demonstration. Display visually what you’re doing. You’ll have more success when you finally ask people to buy from you if you’ve used the engagement pillar first. Think of yourself as a leader. You are leading potential clients to where you ultimately want them to go. People do business with those they know, like, trust and those who are memorable. Paid advertising helps get you remembered. Before you put money into Facebook ads, do some interest based research. How can a shared concept of the Divine inspire faith leaders to collaboratively address issues of social justice in Houston? The “three amigos” Archbishop Joseph Fiorenza, Rabbi Samuel Karff, and Rev. William Lawson (who was unable to attend due to a recent surgery) share their interfaith work and how it’s influenced their own spirituality and ministry in service to the community, moderated by Melanie Lawson, award winning journalist. Rabbi Karff is Rabbi Emeritus at Congregation Beth Israel; Archbishop Fiorenza is Archbishop Emeritus of Galveston-Houston; and Rev. Lawson is the founding pastor of Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church. Working together they have tackled some of Houston's most challenging problems, including homelessness, juvenile incarceration, and fair housing. Concept of the Divine series provides a unique opportunity for speakers to share how their personal concept of the Divine has changed over time and shaped their lives, their service to the community, and views about their place in the cosmos.
