    Ivy Insights

The Overland Journal Podcast sets the standard for what genuine Overlanding is all about. With a focus on international exploration, travel, and adventure, this podcast provides valuable insights and information from experienced hosts and guests. As a newbie to overlanding, I have found this podcast to be incredibly helpful in learning basic concepts. The principles episodes are particularly enjoyable and informative, and I would love to listen to more topics centered around principles.

One of the best aspects of this podcast is the knowledge and experience that the hosts bring to the table. Scott Brady in particular embodies what it means to be an American with his tough, hard-working, and business-minded approach. However, he also has a deep love for traveling and is a student of other countries, languages, and cultures. This podcast offers a unique perspective as it includes guests from Australia, South Africa, England, who provide an inspiring outlook on life.

Another great aspect of this podcast is the practical knowledge shared by the hosts based on their experiences in international overland travel. Their expertise shines through in their content and journalism skills. Unlike other off-road sites or content that may focus solely on vehicles, this podcast emphasizes that overlanding is about the journey itself.

While there are many positive aspects of The Overland Journal Podcast, there are some minor issues that could be improved upon. One listener mentions that one of the hosts has breathing sounds or lacks breath control during speaking portions which can be distracting or annoying at times. However, they acknowledge that adjustments have been made to address this issue.

In conclusion, The Overland Journal Podcast is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in overlanding or travel in general. The content is top-notch with amazing guests who provide valuable insights into the world of overland travel. Despite some minor technical glitches or microphone issues mentioned by listeners, this podcast remains highly informative and enjoyable overall. I am excited to continue listening to future episodes and appreciate the work put into spreading the word about overland travel and its core principles.

This episode of The Overland Journal Podcast, hosts Scott and Matt discuss choosing overland 12V fridges over coolers, advocating for the smallest necessary size (25–35L for one/two, 45–55L for small families) to avoid heavy slides and oversized units (like 80L for just drinks). They compare chest/drawer fridges to less efficient door-opening models, emphasize that cooldown speed matters mainly for warm groceries, and outline testing metrics: power draw, temperature accuracy, and warm-up time. They review brands, noting Engel's reliability issues, Dometic's value, National Luna's build quality/higher power use, and the heavy but high-performing ARB Elements 60L, plus Iceco and EcoFlow's battery/app features, promoting upcoming Overland Journal test results.
