Feliz Cinco de Mayo! This week, we're talking about one of our favorite nuns, the genius author, poet, and scholar Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. Born in the mid-1600s, Sor Juana's work has had a resurgence in the past few decades, and we want to get a little piece of the action for ourselves. (Yes, we know Cinco de Mayo isn't actually a big deal in Mexico.) Rachel shakes people's hands just to MESS with them. Jackie reveals one of the rules of being white. Theo recommends time travel. Topics include: Kermit face, head nods between men, Joshua's professional look and feel, sexual home runs, Play-Doh men, Oliphaunts, Octavio Paz, the SAT (Spaniard Aptitude Test), absorbing one's twin in utero, and the genderqueer police.★ Support this podcast on Patreon ★
Feliz Cinco De Mayo, Familia! Yes, it may be more of an American holiday, but we're always up for celebrating anything Mexican, especially when we are celebrating Familia FFB turning 2. Two reasons for toasting. Today we're joined by buen amigos and great #fantasyfootball minds like Herms and Dan Turner, and we raise a glass and enjoy some fun talk on rookie rankings. Now that the #NFLDraft is passed us, it's time to talk about how the landing spots helped or hurt players now that we're in rookie draft season. Where are your favorite players going? Is it too high or too low? We close up with some tequila and beer rankings. All for you. ¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! We’re commemorating the date with Veracruz-born songwriter Rafael Mesa Zamudio, better known by his stage and studio name Pehuenche. Be it with traditional Latin American rhythms, modern Mexican flavors, or the folk-pop-rock sonics of the ’60s and ’70s, Pehuenche puts it all together into something entirely new. On top of his […]

Feliz Cinco de Mayo! The gang is back with episode 61! Lots of energy in this episode which seemed to be fueled by the audience. The WASHED BOYZ talked about Quando Rondo and his concert that only attracted 50 people, the allure (or lack thereof) of a Jay-Z x Nas album, Birdman's royalties and more. One of the deepest conversations happens late in the episode where the BOYZ debate about whether or not Radio airplay is important in a world where YouTube views seem to hold a lot of weight. In the weekly Honoring segment, the panel talked about Karen Civil and her contributions to the culture. This is a great episode with plenty of laughs. Enjoy! --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/washthis/support
This week we're talking about the origin of Cinco de Mayo - the victory of Mexican troops over the French army at the battle of Puebla in 1862 during the Second French Intervention in Mexico. We also discuss the commercialization of the holiday by American beer companies and the delusional plight of the hipster emperor Maximilian I of Mexico. Plus, we're tasting/smelling some Mexican cervezas. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/secretloft/support
Feliz Cinco de Mayo from your favorite cucarachas! In celebration of Cinco de Mayo, we want to honor this day of Mexican Independence with the beloved Mexican-American icon and singer, Miss Selina Quintanilla! Selina says, “I'm very proud of my roots and ever since I was little we played English music and country music aside from Tejano. It was something very natural for us.” In this episode, we are talking about culture and community, as we celebrate both our independence AND our interconnectedness on this special day!
¡Feliz Cinco de Mayo! We "eat the worm" as Steffan discusses the monopoly of social media outlets taking control of not only it's users, but also government policy. Have you been in Facebook/Twitter jail? Producer Matt was recently released, but is still on Facebook probation with a virtual ankle bracelet for another month. Steffan takes calls. Feliz Cinco de Mayo Vatos... Fellas dive into the "American Holiday" lol with discussions behind the history and how it is celebrated here in the United States. Remember Cinco de Mayo isn't a celebration of our independence but more of a victory battle between an outnumbered Mexican army agains the French in 1862. The actual independence day for Mexico, is on September 16th which celebrates the cry of independence against the Spaniards. Enjoy...

A margarita is a cocktail consisting of tequila, orange liqueur, and lime juice, often served with salt on the rim of the glass. The drink is served shaken with ice (on the rocks), blended with ice (frozen margarita), or without ice (straight up). While you can serve a margarita in a variety of glass types, ranging from cocktail and wine glasses to pint glasses and even large schooners, the drink is traditionally served in the eponymous margarita glass, a stepped-diameter variant of a cocktail glass or champagne coupe. Margarita Recipe: 1 ½ OUNCES BLANCO TEQUILA ¾ OUNCE ORANGE LIQUEUR, PREFERABLY COINTREAU ¾ OUNCE LIME JUICE 1 TEASPOON AGAVE NECTAR GARNISH: LIME WHEEL Prepare a rocks, coupe, or cocktail glass with a salted rim, if desired. Add all ingredients to a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into prepared glass, over ice if desired. Garnish with a lime wheel. Note: if you’re using an orange liqueur other than Cointreau, adjust the lime juice up according to the liqueur’s sweetness. Leave us some feedback, and share with your Mexican American friends.
