Now, three Oregonians are a part of a class action lawsuit against Multnomah, Yamhill and Lane counties. As Beege pointed out earlier this week, the owners of Westfield Mall in downtown San Francisco have announced that they'll be giving the property over to the lender. The mall had already lost Nordstoms last month and this week the Cinemark movie theater also announce it was closing. In fact, today is the theater's last day.The Cinemark movie theater complex sent an email to its customers announcing its final films would play Thursday, and the complex would close on Friday.In a statement to The Standard, Cinemark confirmed the decision to permanently close the Century San Francisco Centre 9 and XD theater shortly before the conclusion of its lease term, attributing the shutdown to a “comprehensive review of local business conditions.”What kind of business conditions? Oh, those kind of conditions.Seeing feces on the ground is not uncommon in the city by the bay. But human waste has been showing up somewhere else: the elevators in Downtown San Francisco's Westfield Centre.“It's like twice a week now. It used to be once a month,” said Abimael Garcia, who manages janitors at Westfield. “So lately, it's increased.”…Kim said she saw feces in one of the elevators that leads from the theater to Mission Street about two weeks ago, and that someone appeared to have stepped in it.Support the show

Taken your own life when you have a family who loves you can be seen as what in your opinion?

When Geraldine Tyler didn't pay her tax bill, her county sold her home and kept the profits—more than twice what she actually owed. Tyler, a Minnesotan who's now in her 90s, sued. Next week she'll be appearing before the U.S. Supreme Court. Numerous states have laws allowing tax authorities to take all of the value of a property when it forecloses. But Tyler is asking the Supreme Court to declare these laws unconstitutional. Bloomberg Law reporter Perry Cooper is covering the case. She joins our weekly news podcast, On The Merits, to talk about it. Perry says Tyler's argument that her property rights have been violated may appeal to the court's ruling conservative majority. For investors in single family homes, auctions can be a great place to find deals. When homeowners can't pay their mortgages, lenders will take back the properties and often put them up for sale at auction where investors can pay 25% less than the estimated value of the home, and sometimes even less. Daren Blomquist, VP of Market economics at Auction.com, discusses the macro state of the market and what to expect in 2023. Auction.com currently puts 3,000-5,000 on their site per month and that amount is likely to increase. Darin anticipates a recession in 2023 and an increase in foreclosed homes and great opportunities for investors.

On today's program, we look at spiritual abuse.  At what point is a difference in opinion, or a disagreement with the pastor, real abuse?  It's a question lots of churches, pastors, and church members are having to grapple with.  Also, we look at an online ministry that started as a hobby, but is now generating more than 100-million page views a year from people wanting answers to tough spiritual questions.  We begin today with news about a Tennessee megachurch that has defaulted on its building payments.  The building that housed Venue Church is set to be auctioned off from the steps of the local courthouse Aug. 24, just six months after a video surfaced allegedly showing its head pastor kissing a woman who was not his wife.  A notice of foreclosure that appeared in The Chattanooga Times Free Press said Venue Church has defaulted on payments on the more than $2 million the church owes on a property at 6401 Lee Highway in Chattanooga, its main campus.
