NFL – Damar Hamlin asked who won Bills-Bengals when he woke up Damar Hamlin’s doctors say the Buffalo Bills safety has begun to communicate in writing with his family and others who have been at his bedside since going into cardiac arrest Monday — and his first question was “did we win?” Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a conference call with reporters that Hamlin remains critically ill and in the hospital’s intensive care unit. But they say it appears his neurological function is intact, meaning he can follow commands and move. The developments come as the Bills return to practice for the first time since Hamlin collapsed during the first quarter of Buffalo’s game against the Bengals. NFL – NFL: Bills-Bengals won’t resume; playoff scenarios revealed The NFL won’t resume the Bills-Bengals game that was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and went into cardiac arrest on the field. The league announced its decision on Thursday. The NFL said its decision creates “potential competitive inequities in certain playoff scenarios.” The league said clubs on Friday, in a special league meeting, would consider a resolution recommended by the commissioner and approved Thursday by the Competition Committee. The Bills-Bengals game had major playoff implications. Buffalo entered Monday night needing a win to maintain the AFC’s No. 1 seed. The Kansas City Chiefs currently hold that spot. The Bengals had a chance to earn that top seed with two more wins and a loss by the Chiefs. NFL – National Football League – Week 18 (Final Week of the regular season) Sunday Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears, 1:00 p.m. Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts, 1:00 p.m. Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers, 8:20 p.m. Rock 107 WIRX 7:15 NFL – Late-season runs raise stakes for Lions-Packers matchup The Green Bay Packers know they reach the postseason if they win Sunday night. The Detroit Lions’ playoff prospects are a little more complicated. Detroit can reach the playoffs by beating the Packers only if Seattle loses to the LA Rams earlier in the day. A Seahawks victory would eliminate Detroit. The Lions insist they’ll still have plenty of incentive to beat their NFC North rivals even if it has no impact on their own postseason fortunes. The Lions have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a 41-10 blowout of Chicago. Detroit already has come a long way after going 3-13-1 last year in Coach Dan Campbell’s debut season. The Lions are seeking their first playoff berth since 2016 and have a chance to end a run of four straight losing seasons. At least five players experienced a heart-related issue in the NHL over the past 25 years. All of them collapsed during games. All of them survived including Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer. The NHL has updated its policies and required more robust medical support at games. Experts say that’s key and adjustments should continue to make sure medical staffs and teams are always prepared. Joe Dumars Court will be unveiled Thursday on “Joe Dumars Day.” The Detroit Pistons chose Dumars with the 18th pick in the 1985 NBA draft. He spent his entire NBA playing career with the Pistons, becoming an All-Star six times and winning two titles. He has one year of eligibility remaining. Hartman completed a career-best 63.1% of his passes this past season for 3,701 yards with 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. NCAAFB – Harbaugh: ‘I expect’ to be back at Michigan next season Jim Harbaugh says he expects to coach Michigan’s football team next season. He has posted a statement on the team’s social media accounts following reports of his interest in returning to the NFL. A person familiar with the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity has said Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper had a conversation with Harbaugh about the team’s head coaching position. Harbaugh also has been mentioned as a possible candidate to coach in Denver and Indianapolis. Michigan is also awaiting word from the NCAA on an investigation into the football program regarding impermissible texts and calls to high school prospects during part of a COVID-19 dead period, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Thursday. NCAAFB – Michigan State football player pleads guilty to misdemeanors A Michigan State football player has pleaded guilty to misdemeanors for a skirmish inside the Michigan Stadium tunnel after a game in October. As part of a plea deal, a felony charge against Khary Crump was dropped on Thursday. His record will be scrubbed clean if he stays out of trouble while on probation. Crump was one of seven Michigan State players facing charges but the only one tagged with a felony. Scuffles broke out in the tunnel after Michigan defeated the Spartans on Oct. 29. Crump in one video appeared to swing his helmet at a Michigan player. His attorney said a letter of apology to Gemon Green was part of the deal. Crump was suspended by Michigan State. Prominent anti-vaccine groups and right-leaning figures like Tucker Carlson claimed Hamlin’s cardiac arrest is connected to a number of athletes who have died after receiving the shot. On this episode of the Fieldhouse Files, you'll hear my interview with Duane Washington Jr. from the 500 Festival Parade and then I'll introduce you to someone who has been around The Fieldhouse for a while. That's Jhared Simpson, now a Fever assistant coach, who came up through the video room. Among the items discussed on this episode with Simpson: How coming up through the video room is helpful for aspiring coaches, like it was for Frank Vogel and Erik Spoelstra. “The best coaches are the best thieves,” he joked. Why it was a good move from the video room to the bench — taking a coaching role with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. “You don't have the rewind button any more.” What his experience has been like working under Hall of Fame coach Marianne Stanley. How the women's game is more of a tactical game. Realities of the WNBA — short season, small rosters (12) and just 12 teams, now due for expansion. Inside the draft room and the characteristics they prioritized. “Draft night was a breeze.” He shared their draft process and the one trait they valued most. ----- Podcast listeners can get 25% off a subscription of Fieldhouse Files by going to http://fieldhousefiles.substack.com/ffpodcast. Coach Chris Hunter,In this episode, you'll hear from Chris Hunter. Chris is currently the Director of Basketball Operations for Coach Juwan Howard at the University of Michigan. Chris is in year eight with the Wolverines. And, Chris has had the opportunity to work for both Coach Howard and Coach John Beilein. As you soon will hear, Chris is a Michigan Man. A graduate of Michigan and a four-year player at Michigan, Chris embarked on a professional basketball career that was a product of massive determination to get to his ultimate dream: that is, playing in the NBA. After stops in Switzerland, Poland, and Belgium, Chris returned to the United States to play with the NBA Development League's Fort Wayne Mad Ants. And in 2009, he was named to the 2009 NBADL All-Star Team. Through endless hard work and massive self-belief, Chirs participated in two training camps with the New York Knicks. And, during the 2009-10 season, Chris made it to the NBA. Coach Hunter played in 60 games, starting nine, with the NBA's Golden State Warriors. After his professional career was over, Chris instantly knew that he wanted to give back and do the same that so many coaches in his own life had done for him. In this conversation, Chris depicts so many interesting behind-the-scenes facts that confirm why Coach Howard's Wolverines were Big 10 Champions and an Elite 8 team last season. Coach Hunter's perspective on the importance of details and culture will, for sure, have you evaluating your own coaching philosophy. After listening to Coach Hunter, you will appreciate that this is a man of deep thought and introspective. Coach Hunter's thoughts on the “big picture” are as good as anything that has been shared on this podcast. Trust me, this is a must-listen. Whether you are in competitive athletic leadership or leading your office or leading your own family, Chris's comments on this topic are simply terrific. As a matter of fact, the last ten minutes of this action-packed leadership-driven podcast are so good. And guess what? Chris is as humble as they come. To me, this podcast is evident why Chris Hunter is adored by his co-workers and players at the University of Michigan. I am so fortunate to share a small part of his coaching story.Follow Coach Chris Hunter @biggame_hunterFollow Tell Me Your Story Coach @CoachKevinDro Buzzsprout - Let's get your podcast launched!
