Set against the backdrop of the early American presence in Iran under the Shah, and the burgeoning years of Kuwait's early oil boom, Dancing into the Light is Kathryn's memoir of a life disrupted by tragedy. Kathryn discusses: Growing up immersed in disparate cultures, navigating cultural mores and values of two very different societies How people of diametrically different cultures and faiths can coexist in harmony when there is tolerance and respect for the other Dispelling stereotypes of Arab women and misconceptions about Middle Eastern cultures Life as a bicultural person in the Middle East – Kathryn's mother was a Southern woman from Tennessee and her father was a Muslim from Jerusalem How she has seen Kuwait, Jerusalem and other parts of the Middle East change politically, socially and historically over her lifetime Experiences with grief at an early age, and how she found solace following the deaths of her mother and younger brother Overcoming devastating early trauma through music and dancing Ms. Magazine said of Kathryn's work: “Her politics are feminist, her theme is human ethics, and her writing is finely honed.” She has three children and resides with her husband in McLean, Virginia. NFL – Damar Hamlin asked who won Bills-Bengals when he woke up Damar Hamlin’s doctors say the Buffalo Bills safety has begun to communicate in writing with his family and others who have been at his bedside since going into cardiac arrest Monday — and his first question was “did we win?” Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a conference call with reporters that Hamlin remains critically ill and in the hospital's intensive care unit. But they say it appears his neurological function is intact, meaning he can follow commands and move. The developments come as the Bills return to practice for the first time since Hamlin collapsed during the first quarter of Buffalo's game against the Bengals. NFL – NFL: Bills-Bengals won’t resume; playoff scenarios revealed The NFL won’t resume the Bills-Bengals game that was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and went into cardiac arrest on the field. The league announced its decision on Thursday. The NFL said its decision creates “potential competitive inequities in certain playoff scenarios.” The league said clubs on Friday, in a special league meeting, would consider a resolution recommended by the commissioner and approved Thursday by the Competition Committee. The Bills-Bengals game had major playoff implications. Buffalo entered Monday night needing a win to maintain the AFC's No. 1 seed. The Kansas City Chiefs currently hold that spot. The Bengals had a chance to earn that top seed with two more wins and a loss by the Chiefs. NFL – National Football League – Week 18 (Final Week of the regular season) Sunday Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears, 1:00 p.m. Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts, 1:00 p.m. Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers, 8:20 p.m. Rock 107 WIRX 7:15 NFL – Late-season runs raise stakes for Lions-Packers matchup The Green Bay Packers know they reach the postseason if they win Sunday night. A Seahawks victory would eliminate Detroit. The Lions insist they'll still have plenty of incentive to beat their NFC North rivals even if it has no impact on their own postseason fortunes. The Lions have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a 41-10 blowout of Chicago. Detroit already has come a long way after going 3-13-1 last year in Coach Dan Campbell's debut season. The Lions are seeking their first playoff berth since 2016 and have a chance to end a run of four straight losing seasons. The Detroit Lions' playoff prospects are a little more complicated. Detroit can reach the playoffs by beating the Packers only if Seattle loses to the LA Rams earlier in the day. Ball’s final game was Jan. 14, and he had surgery two weeks later. Coach Billy Donovan said this week it was “disappointing” and there would be discussion to determine the next steps. NBA – Silver says NBA plans to keep next All-Star Game in Utah The NBA plans to keep its next All-Star Game in Salt Lake City, despite its opposition to Utah’s ban on transgender youth athletes playing on girls teams. The NBA pulled the 2017 All-Star Game out of Charlotte because of its opposition to a North Carolina law known as HB2 that limited anti-discrimination protections for lesbian, gay and transgender people. The United States' nearly 1,000 technical and community colleges have been providing skills-based, career-focused training to communities for over 100 years. It's imperative that higher ed pays attention to the needs of industry in order to fulfill this purpose. What happens when those needs take a massive shift in a short amount of time? The way we live, work and learn have all changed in the last two years. Some of these changes are due to technological advancement, and some are due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It was a real kick to see so many people ranging from kids to professional artists coloring the city streets. And we were all there because of Rob Bliss. He invited us and secured 30,000 pieces of free chalk. He announced his plan on Facebook and then waited to see who showed up.
