Andrew Funk, the host of the Royal Path Podcast, joins Perpend and I to talk about Thriving in the Ordinary and Mundane.First a definition:mun·dane1. lacking interest or excitement; dull.2. of this earthly world rather than a heavenly or spiritual one. "the boundaries of the mundane world""Are you for real or are you going through the motions?" - Kansas lyric from "Going Through the Motions" on the Drastic Measures album (1983).The dog days of summer are still here. Not much is happening. I hate summer. I wish it away. I am always wishing for Fall and Winter to come. But by doing so I am not Being Present, living in the Now. I'm "wishing my life away."Living in the Ordinary TimeLiving in the mundane is a form of asceticism. It is a resetting on one's self.Andrew works in addiction Recovery, and one of the hardest things to get used to when recovering from addiction is getting used to going back to the boring, mundane, ordinary things in life.People aren't having real conversations, or listening to the other person when having conversations. They retreat into their phone and their own little world. Don't be like that, resist retreating. When someone has a mundane conversation, like the weather, do you tune them out? If you listen then they will often get to the real story and go deeper.Episode website: https://thrivingthefuture.com/ordinary-timeIf you like this unique topic, shoot us a tip on Venmo @ThrivingtheFuture or CashApp $ThrivingtheFuture.Or join the Thriving Patreon at Patreon.com/ThrivingtheFuture. Hour 2 - Steve says Andrew Funk is an underrated screener, and Steve and Matt laugh at the product that was the NBA All Star Game.
Penn State basketball's fight for an NCAA tournament berth under second-year head coach Micah Shrewsberry took a turn for the worse on Sunday when the team lost an ugly 72-63 game on the road at Nebraska. The team is now 1-6 on the road, which has become a significant storyline for the season. But it's not the only one. Today on the BWI Penn State Hoops Show, Nate Bauer and Thomas Frank Carr discuss the loss and the subsequent comments from Monday's press conference. Bauer takes viewers through head coach Micah Shrewsberry's comments from the event while T-Frank provides his observations. Subscribe to Blue White Illustrated on YouTube and enable notifications so you don't miss the Hoops Show when it airs each week. Bauer and T-Frank start with the most obvious problem from Sunday, Penn State's defense. The Nittany Lions were sloppy and uncoordinated on the road despite playing a beatable Nebraska team. While their record isn't stellar, Bauer points to something Shrewsberry said the last time the Nittany Lions played the Cornhuskers as a potential danger zone. Unfortunately, that aspect of Nebraska's game came true on Sunday and eventually sunk the Shrewsberry's team. So why was defense such a problem on a team of veteran players? Bauer chronicles the decline of Penn State's defense since the start of the new year. The issues, according to Shrewsberry, are in the team's offensive struggles. Offensive scoring on the road is also officially a "thing" for the Nittany Lions. The problem isn't just shooter Andrew Funk going cold in some games; Sherwsberry points to a bigger problem with the offense beyond the top three scorers. This conversation leads to another about who is stepping up and who isn't on the team. Bauer and T-Frank read between the lines of Shrewsberry's words. Finally, they preview the upcoming game against Wisconsin. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
Penn State basketball's rollercoaster season continues it's wild ride this week on the BWI Penn State Hoops show. Fresh off an 83-61 dismantling of Michigan at home, the Nittany Lions will try to bottle that energy to play No. 1 ranked Purdue on the road Wednesday night. Host Thomas Frank Carr and basketball insider Nate Bauer discuss the win, and the personality of this season on today's Hoops Show. Subscribe to the BWI Hoops Show on YouTube, and review the progam on Apple Podcasts. Bauer and T-Frank start with Penn State's decisive win over Michigan on Sunday, which included an 18-point run to end the first half. Despite that, Bauer points to the first several minutes for growth to put that run in perspective. Next, he and T-Frank discuss another common theme from this season, slow starts to the second half. However, all those factors, including five made three-point shots in a row, are a subset of a more significant theme for the year. Penn State has played very well at home but has struggled on the road. Bauer has the proof in the team's shooting percentage splits and comments from three-point ace Andrew Funk to back it up. So how can Penn State bottle that shooting and take it on the road? Based on the schedule, Bauer thinks this will be the defining aspect of the team's season down the stretch. That's because the team faces yet another set of critical games on the road, and he has each team's home record. The numbers will surprise you. That journey starts tomorrow against top-ranked Purdue at 6:30 pm. So how do they contend with Zach Edey? Hear from Penn State head coach Micah Shrewsberry and how he talks about the likely national player of the year. Finally, T-Frank asks Bauer if the team can pull an upset or at least have a chance to win in the final five minutes. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

NCAAWBKB – Women's College Basketball Last Night Toledo 71, Western Michigan 53 Central Michigan 79, Northern Illinois 62 Eastern Michigan 68, Miami (OH) 67 NFL – NFL rallies to support Hamlin as his condition improves NFL players and coaches are rallying to support Damar Hamlin, two days after the Buffalo Bills safety’s heart stopped and he needed to be resuscitated during a game at Cincinnati. Colts safety Rodney Thomas made the two-hour drive from Indianapolis to Cincinnati to provide his sedated friend words of encouragement. Vikings defensive tackle and former Bills teammate Harrison Phillips arranged to have dinner delivered to the hospital. Hamlin’s marketing representative Jordan Rooney told The Associated Press the player’s recovery is moving in “a positive direction.” The Bills say Hamlin is still in critical condition but has shown signs of improvement. NFL – Hamlin’s collapse spurs new wave of vaccine misinformation Misinformation about the safety of COVID-19 vaccines has flared up once again, this time following the on-field collapse of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin during a game Monday. Even before Hamlin was carried off the field, social media posts claimed without evidence that his medical emergency was caused by a COVID-19 inoculation. Prominent anti-vaccine groups and right-leaning figures like Tucker Carlson claimed Hamlin’s cardiac arrest is connected to a number of athletes who have died after receiving the shot. Physicians interviewed by the AP, however, said it’s wrong to blame vaccines for Hamlin’s injury and that there’s been no increase in cardiac arrests among vaccinated athletes. NFL – NFL still considering scheduling options, Week 18 unchanged The NFL is still considering various options following the suspension of the Bills-Bengals game, including possibly eliminating the bye week before the Super Bowl. The Bills-Patriots game set for Sunday and the rest of the Week 18 games remain on schedule. The pivotal Bills-Bengals game was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin went into cardiac arrest while making a tackle in the first quarter. A marketing representative for his family says Hamlin's recovery is moving in “a positive direction” two days after the 24-year-old player had to be resuscitated on the field. NFL executive Jeff Miller said there has been no decision on whether to resume the Bills-Bengals game at a later date. A decision will be made in the coming days. NFL – Bears’ Fields to miss finale, ending shot at QB rushing mark Justin Fields won't get a chance to break the single-season rushing record for an NFL quarterback. Coach Matt Eberflus says Fields will miss the season finale against the Minnesota Vikings because of a strained hip and Nathan Peterman will start in his place. Fields finishes his second season with 1,143 yards rushing, 63 shy of the record of 1,206 set by Baltimore's Lamar Jackson in 2019 during his MVP season. Eberflus said Fields reported a sore hip Monday morning, a day after the Bears got blown out at Detroit. An MRI confirmed the strain and the team's medical staff ruled him out for the game against NFC North champion Minnesota on Sunday. MLB – Benintendi just planning to be himself as he joins White Sox Andrew Benintendi pulled on his new No. 23 Chicago White Sox jersey a day after finalizing a $75 million, five-year deal. It's the richest contract in terms of total value in franchise history. The White Sox had long been interested in Benintendi, going back to when the outfielder was selected by Boston with the No. 7 pick in the 2015 amateur draft — one spot ahead of Chicago. Benintendi says it’s good to be with a team that wanted him from the get-go. MLB – AP source: Cubs, 1B Hosmer agree to 1-year contract Eric Hosmer has agreed to a $720,000, one-year contract with the Chicago Cubs, giving the team another option at first base and designated hitter. A person familiar with the negotiations confirmed the deal to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it was pending a successful physical. The 33-year-old Hosmer played for San Diego and Boston last season, batting .268 with eight homers and 44 RBIs in 104 games. He was traded to Boston in August, and then he was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last month. USA Soccer – Reyna family flagged Berhalter incident; interim coach named The U.S. Men's soccer team has been plunged into public turmoil because the family of former U.S. captain Claudio Reyna family says it was the one to notify the U.S. Soccer Federation of a decades-old incident involving Gregg Berhalter and his wife. The family says it took action in response to the coach's disparagement of young star Gio Reyna, Claudio’s son. Berhalter said Tuesday that his 1991 behavior in which he kicked the woman who would become his wife was “shameful.” Anthony Hudson will coach the team for exhibitions against Serbia on Jan. 25 and Colombia 3 days later. He was traded to Boston in August, and then he was designated for assignment by the Red Sox last month. IIHF – Canada beats US 6-2 in world junior hockey semifinals Adam Fantilli scored the go-ahead goal in the second period, Thomas Milic made 43 saves and Canada overcame an early deficit to beat the United States 6-2 on Wednesday night to advance to the world junior hockey championship game. Seeking its 20th title, Canada will face the Czech Republic on Thursday night. The Czechs, 5-2 winners over Canada in their tournament opener, rallied to beat Sweden 2-1 in overtime in the first semifinal. Joshua Roy had two goals, the second into the empty net, and two assists for Canada. Fantilli, Connor Bedard and Logan Stankoven each had a goal and an assist, and Brandt Clarke also scored. Logan Cooley and Kenny Connors scored in the first period as the Americans raced to a 2-0 lead. The No. 14 Indiana Hoosiers (8-2) nearly overcame a 19-point deficit against the No. 10 Arizona Wildcats on Saturday night, but it was too little, too late for the Hoosiers as they fell to the Wildcats 89-75 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The Wildcats were led by star forward Azuolas Tubelis who scored 21 points on 9-of-16 shooting and added seven rebounds in 27 minutes. The Hoosiers were led by senior point guard Xavier Johnson's 11-point, 11-assist double-double in 26 minutes. Sixth-year forward Race Thompson splashed four 3-pointers to aid in his team-high 16 points and nine rebounds. Nate Dickinson brings Jacob Rude on to recap the second loss in the last two weeks for Indiana to start off Locked On Big 10. In other Big Ten action, The Penn State Nittany Lions (7-3, 1-1 Big Ten) notched their first road Big Ten win against a top-20 team since beating No. 16 Michigan State in 2020 with a 74-59 win over No. 17 Illinois (7-3, 0-2 Big Ten) on Saturday. Andrew Funk and Myles Dread combined for 11 3-pointers to lead the Nittany Lions to victory. Funk and Jalen Pickett led all scorers with 20 points each, Seth Lundy added 16 and Dread had 15. Penn State shot 50% from long distance overall and hit 6 of 9 3s in the first half. Funk and Dread have each made at least five 3s in a game this season, with the first time being in a two-point loss to Virginia Tech in November. The difference this time was Penn State limited itself to nine turnovers, instead of 14 against the Hokies, and limited the Illini to 12 points off turnovers. Zach Seyko from Locked On Nittany Lions comes on to recap the biggest win of the season for Penn State basketball so far this season as part of the Locked On Podcast Network. Pero gracias a un gesto de bondad pasó de habitar la calle a fundar Homeless Entrepreneur, una entidad sin fines de lucro que ayuda a personas desamparadas a capacitarse, encontrar trabajo y un lugar para vivir. For every day it offers two meditations, in liturgical arrangement, that enable the soul to enter the conscious presence of God and to reflect on the theme of the day. These are followed by a ‘Colloquy' that helps the person at prayer to start a friendly conversation with God where acts of praise and love, petition and thanksgiving are made, together with good resolutions for the future.

In this episode of the Smart Community Podcast, I have a great chat with Andrew Funk, international keynote speaker and Impact Activist for homeless people. Andrew believes that work and active citizenship will end homelessness for and with those willing to participate in the process, which is why he created a model to end homelessness that embraces the concept of Smart Cities becoming even Smarter. In this episode, Andrew and I discuss his background from teaching English through to a digital consultancy, and the very personal story of how he started Homeless Entrepreneur. Andrew tells us about the steps he took to get out of homelessness and why inclusive Smart Communities full of active citizens are so important. He tells us how he sees Spain embracing Smart concepts, and about the projects he's working on included Homeless Entrepreneur and Afloat. We then discuss the importance of including people who are affected by the problems you're trying to solve so as to avoid tokenistic approaches, and the three strategic pillars of how to do that: knowledge, recognition and change. We finish our chat talking about the emerging trends of bottom up solutions and citizens taking more of an active role in Smart Cities. As always we hope you enjoy listening to this episode as much as we enjoyed making it.Find the full show notes at: www.mysmart.communityConnect with Andrew on LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram or Twitter @andrewfunkspain or via WhatsApp +34 697 877 089Connect with me via email: hello@mysmart.communityConnect with My Smart Community via LinkedIn or TwitterThe Smart Community Podcast is produced by Perk Digital.
