José Alvarado pitched the ninth for his second save in three chances. Chicago’s Mike Clevinger lasted just three innings, allowing three runs and six hits on 75 pitches. Andrew Vaughn hit a two-run homer in the first. Cubs 12, A’s 2 – Cubs hammer A’s bullpen in 12-2 win for 3-game sweep Dansby Swanson scored the tiebreaking run standing up on an infield grounder to spark a four-run sixth inning and the Chicago Cubs reached Oakland’s bullpen for 10 runs in a 12-2 victory over the Athletics that completed a three-game sweep. The A’s have lost seven straight and at 3-16 are mired in their poorest 19-game start since the 1951 Philadelphia A’s. Eric Hosmer hit his first home run since last July 29 for San Diego, Patrick Wisdom had a two-run triple. Mason Miller, a 24-year-old right-hander who is Oakland’s top pitching prospect, made his major league debut. Tonight L.A. Dodgers (Grove 0-1) at Chicago Cubs (Taillon 0-2), 7:40 p.m. Tigers and White Sox are off MLB – Oakland A’s purchase land for new stadium in Las Vegas The Oakland Athletics have signed a binding agreement to purchase land for a new retractable roof ballpark in Las Vegas after being unable to build a new venue in the Bay Area. Team president Dave Kaval said Wednesday night that the team finalized the deal to buy the 49-acre site last week where the A’s will plan to build the stadium that will seat between 30,000 and 35,000 fans close to the Las Vegas Strip. The A’s will work with Nevada and Clark County on a public-private partnership to fund the stadium. Kaval said the A’s hope to break ground on the stadium by next year and would look to hope to be able move into their new home by 2027. Dumars also says it was made with serious consideration of many factors. Dumars oversees the league’s basketball operations and sanctions for on-court incidents. Green stepped on the chest of Kings center Domantas Sabonis midway during the fourth quarter of Game 2 of that series on Monday night. Green was ejected for the play. The league escalated the punishment on Tuesday night. NBA – Sacramento’s Mike Brown unanimous Coach of the Year winner Sacramento’s Mike Brown is the unanimous winner of the NBA’s Coach of the Year award. It was an easy call after his first season in Sacramento saw the Kings make the playoffs for the first time since 2006. All 100 voters from a panel of reporters and broadcasters had Brown atop their ballot Wednesday. Brown won the award for the second time, adding this trophy to the one he got after he and LeBron James led Cleveland to a 66-16 record in the 2008-09 season. The other finalists were Oklahoma City’s Mark Daigneault and Boston’s Joe Mazzulla. Golf – PGA – Tiger Woods has ankle surgery, rest of majors in doubt Tiger Woods is recovering from another surgery. Woods has posted on Twitter that he had fusion surgery on his right ankle to alleviate arthritis from a broken bone. Most estimates on recovery are eight to 12 weeks. That would put into doubt whether he plays in the three remaining majors. Woods had a noticeable limp when he played in the Masters. He made the cut for a record-tying 23rd time. But he withdrew Sunday morning during the third round because of plantar fasciitis. The broken bone in his ankle stems from the February 2021 car crash in Los Angeles. Texas cheerleaders shot after one says she got in wrong car Authorities say a man shot and wounded two cheerleaders in a Texas supermarket parking lot after one of them said she mistakenly got into his car thinking it was her own. The shooting early Tuesday east of Austin was the latest in a string of recent U.S. shootings apparently sparked by someone showing up at the wrong place. Heather Roth says she got into what she thought was her car, but there was a man in the passenger seat so she got back into her teammate’s car. She says the man then approached her teammate’s car and opened fire. She was grazed and her teammate was critically wounded. The man fled but was later arrested. IIHF – 2-time US hockey Olympic defender Megan Bozek retires Two-time United States women’s hockey Olympian Megan Bozek is retiring. The 32-year-old defender from Buffalo Grove, Illinois, won silver medals at the 2014 Sochi and 2022 Beijing Winter Games. Bozek also won four gold medals in six world championship tournament appearances, ending with a silver-medal finish in 2022. Bozek made her national team debut in 2007 in the Under-18 Series, and finished her career with 17 goals and 41 assists for 58 points in 111 games. Bills Hamlin wakes up, asks “Did We Win”; NFL announces plans going forward – Friday Morning Sports Update

NFL – Damar Hamlin asked who won Bills-Bengals when he woke up Damar Hamlin’s doctors say the Buffalo Bills safety has begun to communicate in writing with his family and others who have been at his bedside since going into cardiac arrest Monday — and his first question was “did we win?” Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a conference call with reporters that Hamlin remains critically ill and in the hospital's intensive care unit. But they say it appears his neurological function is intact, meaning he can follow commands and move. The developments come as the Bills return to practice for the first time since Hamlin collapsed during the first quarter of Buffalo's game against the Bengals. NFL – NFL: Bills-Bengals won’t resume; playoff scenarios revealed The NFL won’t resume the Bills-Bengals game that was suspended Monday night after Buffalo safety Damar Hamlin collapsed and went into cardiac arrest on the field. The league announced its decision on Thursday. The NFL said its decision creates “potential competitive inequities in certain playoff scenarios.” The league said clubs on Friday, in a special league meeting, would consider a resolution recommended by the commissioner and approved Thursday by the Competition Committee. The Bills-Bengals game had major playoff implications. Buffalo entered Monday night needing a win to maintain the AFC's No. 1 seed. The Kansas City Chiefs currently hold that spot. The Bengals had a chance to earn that top seed with two more wins and a loss by the Chiefs. NFL – National Football League – Week 18 (Final Week of the regular season) Sunday Minnesota Vikings at Chicago Bears, 1:00 p.m. Houston Texans at Indianapolis Colts, 1:00 p.m. Detroit Lions at Green Bay Packers, 8:20 p.m.                Rock 107 WIRX 7:15 NFL – Late-season runs raise stakes for Lions-Packers matchup The Green Bay Packers know they reach the postseason if they win Sunday night. The Detroit Lions' playoff prospects are a little more complicated. Detroit can reach the playoffs by beating the Packers only if Seattle loses to the LA Rams earlier in the day. A Seahawks victory would eliminate Detroit. The Lions insist they'll still have plenty of incentive to beat their NFC North rivals even if it has no impact on their own postseason fortunes. The Lions have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a 41-10 blowout of Chicago. Detroit already has come a long way after going 3-13-1 last year in Coach Dan Campbell's debut season. The Lions are seeking their first playoff berth since 2016 and have a chance to end a run of four straight losing seasons. At least five players experienced a heart-related issue in the NHL over the past 25 years. All of them collapsed during games. All of them survived including Red Wings defenseman Jiri Fischer. The NHL has updated its policies and required more robust medical support at games. Experts say that’s key and adjustments should continue to make sure medical staffs and teams are always prepared. Joe Dumars Court will be unveiled Thursday on “Joe Dumars Day.” The Detroit Pistons chose Dumars with the 18th pick in the 1985 NBA draft. He spent his entire NBA playing career with the Pistons, becoming an All-Star six times and winning two titles. He went into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006, and is now executive vice president and head of basketball operations for the NBA. Hartman, a three-year starter at Wake Forest, was widely regarded as the top quarterback in the transfer portal. He announced his decision Thursday by tweeting pictures of himself in a Notre Dame uniform. The 23-year-old Hartman holds the Atlantic Coast Conference record for passing touchdowns with 110. He has one year of eligibility remaining. Hartman completed a career-best 63.1% of his passes this past season for 3,701 yards with 38 touchdowns and 12 interceptions. NCAAFB – Harbaugh: ‘I expect’ to be back at Michigan next season Jim Harbaugh says he expects to coach Michigan's football team next season. He has posted a statement on the team's social media accounts following reports of his interest in returning to the NFL. A person familiar with the situation who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity has said Carolina Panthers owner David Tepper had a conversation with Harbaugh about the team's head coaching position. Harbaugh also has been mentioned as a possible candidate to coach in Denver and Indianapolis. Michigan is also awaiting word from the NCAA on an investigation into the football program regarding impermissible texts and calls to high school prospects during part of a COVID-19 dead period, a person with knowledge of the situation told The Associated Press on Thursday. NCAAFB – Michigan State football player pleads guilty to misdemeanors A Michigan State football player has pleaded guilty to misdemeanors for a skirmish inside the Michigan Stadium tunnel after a game in October. As part of a plea deal, a felony charge against Khary Crump was dropped on Thursday. His record will be scrubbed clean if he stays out of trouble while on probation. Crump was one of seven Michigan State players facing charges but the only one tagged with a felony. Scuffles broke out in the tunnel after Michigan defeated the Spartans on Oct. 29. NFL – Damar Hamlin asked who won Bills-Bengals when he woke up Damar Hamlin’s doctors say the Buffalo Bills safety has begun to communicate in writing with his family and others who have been at his bedside since going into cardiac arrest Monday — and his first question was “did we win?” Doctors at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center said in a conference call with reporters that Hamlin remains critically ill and in the hospital’s intensive care unit. But they say it appears his neurological function is intact, meaning he can follow commands and move. The developments come as the Bills return to practice for the first time since Hamlin collapsed during the first quarter of Buffalo’s game against the Bengals. Buffalo entered Monday night needing a win to maintain the AFC’s No. The Detroit Lions’ playoff prospects are a little more complicated. Detroit can reach the playoffs by beating the Packers only if Seattle loses to the LA Rams earlier in the day. A Seahawks victory would eliminate Detroit. The Lions insist they’ll still have plenty of incentive to beat their NFC North rivals even if it has no impact on their own postseason fortunes. The Lions have won seven of their last nine games and are coming off a 41-10 blowout of Chicago. Detroit already has come a long way after going 3-13-1 last year in Coach Dan Campbell’s debut season. Really? It took talking to Dumars and Silver for you to recognize that the word c**n is a racial slur? I then discuss Chris Broussard's comments regarding Toronto. The Fox Sports host said Kevin Durant wouldn't play in Toronto because "it's a different situation that African Americans are used to being in". What the hell does that mean. Please explain Chris. I discuss the double standards regarding black people making "racist" comments compared to white players or broadcasters doing the same thing. When are we as a society going to just eradicate all racial slurs from our vocabulary regardless of ethnicity and who is speaking the words? "What does farming have to do with Love?" That was my question when I started this conversation with farmer and business coach, Missy Singer Dumars. By the end, I was clear there is much to learn about love from farming and the cycles of life that farmers know and embrace. Bio: I come from a deep tradition of entrepreneurship and business.  As the 4th generation of a family-run business, I grew up with business as dinner table conversation and even started my own as early as the 5th grade! Through college, I went on to theatrical design and found myself working as one of very few women in the male-dominated industry of Corporate Entertainment Lighting, managing multi-million dollar projects including Cirque du Soleil, the Wynn Resort and Celine Dion's Caesars Colosseum. At the top of my game in the Entertainment world, I found myself with a successful career but drained and spiritually bankrupt.  That is the moment when I walked away from my career, a marriage that was struggling, sold my house, and followed a calling to dive deep into a path more aligned with my values of kindness and nourishment. From that moment, I moved in to the Holistic community and now have over 20 years experience with counseling, healing, teaching, leading spiritual retreats, and event planning. To those skills, I added a wide range of experience in online marketing including certification as an Infusionsoft Consultant.  Now, I bring together my holistic wisdom with my roots in business to support conscious business owners to grow their business in a way that simultaneously increases their authenticity and self-awareness. In addition to business coaching, I have a beautiful 13-acre farm in Western NY, Crown Hill Farm, where I grow heirloom vegetables, raise heritage poultry and advocate for food diversity and sovereignty. Crown Hill Farm is also a venue for groups, events & private retreats. The wisdom of nature that I live within every day on this farm comes through in my approach to business thus fostering nourishment of spirit, business, and people. Horace Jenkins an American former professional basketball player who played in the National Basketball Association (NBA) and several teams in Europe and Israel. Jenkins graduated from New Jersey's Elizabeth High School in 1993. Jenkins played one season at Union County College, before leaving to tend to the birth of his son, Hakeem. Over the next three and a half years, Jenkins worked for the United States Postal Service, as an electrician, and on the back of a garbage truck. Once he saved up some money, he decided he wanted to go back to college, and play basketball. While at William Paterson University, Jenkins was a three-time Division III Player of the Year (1999, 2000, and 2001). He was also a three-time Division III All-American. He holds numerous school records, and also was named 2001 Basketball Times Division III Player of the Year. Jenkins was also the winner of the 2001 ESPN NCAA dunk contest, beating former Division I standout Jeff Trepagnier. USC's Trepagnier, one of the college's most prolific high flyers, missed his last dunk attempt, and the 6'1" (1.85 m) tall Jenkins, had one up his sleeve, wrapping it up with a foul line two-foot leaner. Jenkins attended all three NBA pre-draft camps, but he was undrafted in the 2001 NBA Draft. In the summer of 2001, Jenkins attended rookie camp with the Orlando Magic and also received an invitation to training camp with Orlando. However, he declined the invitation and signed with Cimberio Borgomanero, a team in the Italian second league. He received a guaranteed one-year contract. He spent the 2002 NBA Summer League with the New York Knicks, and the 2003 Summer League with the Seattle SuperSonics. Horace Jenkins got his break in the summer of 2004, playing in the NBA Summer League with the Detroit Pistons. He was previously playing with AEK Athens of the Greek Basket League, with Pistons draft pick Andreas Glyniadakis. Pistons president Joe Dumars was watching a film of Glyniadakis and spotted Jenkins. Jenkins averaged 20.1 points, 3.3 assists, and 1.8 steals in 12 EuroLeague games with AEK Athens. Impressed, Dumars invited Jenkins to summer camp in 2004. In summer camp, he averaged 8.2 points and 2.8 assists per game in 5 games. That was enough to garner a guaranteed contract from the Pistons, which he signed on August 4, 2004. His contract was a one-year deal worth $385,277. Jenkins started the 2004–05 NBA season on the injured list, but he did see NBA game action 15 times. He was on the bench for the raising of the Pistons' 2004 championship banner, as well as the Pacers–Pistons brawl. Rumors circulated that he was being traded to the Chicago Bulls, and also that he was going to leave the Pistons and return to Italy. His NBA debut was a two-minute stint against the San Antonio Spurs. He scored 9 points the next night against the New Orleans Hornets. Jenkins scored a career-high 10 points on December 10, 2004, against the Atlanta Hawks. He was one of only three Pistons to score in double figures in that game. He scored 2 points in his hometown of New Jersey on February 5, 2005. Five nights later, in a rematch of the 2004 NBA Finals, Jenkins scored 8 points, in only 6 minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers. He scored 6 points in 20 minutes in his final NBA game, which was against the Charlotte Bobcats. Although he was left off the playoff roster, the Pistons made the NBA Finals for the second straight year. Jenkins was notable for being one of the oldest rookies in the NBA, and his life story was the subject of a short presentation narrated by Jamie Foxx, on ABC, during the 2005 NBA Finals. Jenkins took the long route to the NBA, working to support his family, and then playing in Europe, before signing his first NBA contract, at the age of 29. --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/letssipandtalkwithfrema/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/letssipandtalkwithfrema/support

Chroniques de Motor City - l'Histoire des Detroit Pistons

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 13, 2020 31:15

Pour aller plus loin : Geiger really kept Iverson a Sixer, ESPN What if the Sixers traded Allen Iverson to the Pistons in 2000 ?

Doug Williams and Paul DuMars, two coaches who were together every step of the way during a 29-year tenure as football coaches at Catoctin, are the guests on the Final Score podcast this week in light of Williams' announcement last weekend that he was retiring as the Cougars' varsity head coach. Williams and DuMar share details with host Greg Swatek about the first time they met, an encounter that took place in an off-beat location and ended with DuMars landing an assistants' job with Williams a few weeks prior to the start of the 1991 season. They talk about why they worked so well together for nearly three decades, what they will miss the most now that they are stepping away from the Catoctin football program and what the next chapter of their lives might look like. Lots of great stories and memories, even a few laughs, are shared.
