Jackson Van Paris is a junior on the Vanderbilt Men's Golf Team and has been enjoying a ton of success in the last year. Climbing into the top 15 of the amateur ranks haas been a product of a win at the 2023 Sunnehanna Amateur, a top 10 in a PGA Tour event, and a lot of great golf along the way. While this may look like a huge shift, JVP has been getting the better the whole way through, a lot of which he credits to Vanderbilt coach Scott Limbaugh, as well as his roommate, Gordon Sargent. Smylie Kaufman and Charlie Hulme celebrate a historic day in golf: 20-year-old Nick Dunlap, who is currently a sophomore at the University of Alabama, won the American Express as an amateur, the first time an amateur has won on Tour since Phil Mickelson in 1991. Smylie recounts what it's been like watching Nick grow up in Birmingham, and what an incredible incubator of golf talent that city's been with the concurrent rise of Vanderbilt junior Gordon Sargent. In 2022 was a massive year in terms of Amateur talent with the likes of Ludvig Åberg, Gordon Sargent, Michael Thorbjornsen, Adrien Dumont Du Chassart, Christo Lamprecht, Keira Nakajima & Filippo Celli all playing at Le Golf National in 2022. In 2023 Sam would discuss the joys of playing back home in New Zealand on the Asian Tour as well as his first 5 starts on the DP World Tour since winning his tour card when contending at halfway in the Australian Open where was level with eventual winner Joaquin Niemann before a final round 78 took him to T48th & the surreal experience of playing Alfred Dunhill Champs at Leopard Creek where Sam would finish T25th.
