In this episode we chat to farming sisters Josie and Poppy, who run the Instagram account 'Sisters in Wellies', and their parents Dawn and Richard. Working together to manage the 200-plus milking herd as well as an on-site adventure park is key to the success of the Lewis family's, Clerkenhill Farm in Haverfordwest.Poppy and Josie are the fourth generation of the on the farm and, in recent years, have taken over greater responsibility for the herd, with the help of their parents Richard and Dawn, while their other sister Heather manages the family park. But while they all have their individual responsibilities, with Richard, being the go-to for fixing things on the farm and mum, Dawn, affectionately referred to as the ‘backbone' of the family farm, the business truly thrives when everyone mucks-in wherever needed, including all siblings and sons-in-law.And not forgetting three-year-old Erin and one year-old Dewi, who have both been on the farm since they were six weeks old. The family is currently milking 210 British Friesians on a grazing based system, with the aim to normally turnout on May 1 and they say the cows suit their ‘low cost system'.Message us

Tell us what you think of this episodeThe collected group of ex-players and committee post holders started by telling us who they are and what they were like as cricketers. We get a picture of the way into cricket which was different for different players, some moving from juniors into seniors and others coming onto the scene as a senior. There were four senior sides in the past and some present played for all four sides. We talk about a little bit of the older history of the club with contributions from Stuart who outlined the contested question of exactly when the cricket club was formed. Cricket was brought to the area by English gentlemen who played mainly ‘away' fixtures from 1824 but finally came to the Racecourse Ground in 1839.Stuart tells the story of why the ground is called ‘The Racecourse' and also outlines the history of the building of the current Pavillion. Like in other areas of Wales, english educated gentlemen first brought the game of cricket to the town when returning to their homes. The first reported game involving members of the Haverfordwest Club took place on 12th August 1835 when a combined Haverfordwest and Pembroke team played members of the Tenby club. The club is reputed to be the oldest in Wales. A quote from 1839 noted, ‘It is ordered that John Higgon Esquire, and other gentlemen of the cricket club, be allowed to level a spot of ground within the ring of the Racecourse for the purpose of forming a Cricket Ground.' English educated gentlemen first brought the game of cricket to this part of WalesOne character from the early years of the club was John Henry Philipss. You can read about him here:https://www.cricketmuseum.wales/the-pembrokeshire-cricketer-who-became-president-of-the-mcc/ In the late 1960s and early 70s discussions got under way regarding the building of a clubhouse. In 1977 the new clubhouse was opened by Wilfred Wooller of Glamorgan CCC and in 1982 the extension was officially opened by Alan Jones esq, Wales pre-eminent first class cricketer and Glamorgan opening bat for many years. For more detail on the history of the club you can approach them for a copy of the 200th Anniversary Handbook which also contains some great articles on the modern day achievements of the club as well as pieces on its Ladies and Junior Sections.Simon and Chris outline their favourite performances for Haverfordwest and then the ex-players share their memories of playing for the club.
This week, Drewby and Yergy head to Wale to discuss the tragic case of Lola James, a toddler from Haverfordwest who at the time of our story, was living with her mother, Sinead James, and her mother's boyfriend, Kyle Bevan. On July 17th, 2020 (into the early morning hours of the 18th), Kyle beat little Lola near death, documenting the abuse of his cell phone. Lola passed away at the hospital just days later. Meanwhile, Kyle claimed that the family dog, Jessie, tripped Lola, causing her to tumble down the stairs. This false accusation caused Jessie to be put to sleep, and it would be almost three years before justice would be served. It is a parents duty to ensure the safety and well-being of their child. This includes exercising the utmost caution when it comes to welcoming people into the home. Unfortunately, some parents put their own needs before the safety of their children, and in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire, Wales, in July 2020, a disturbing incident highlighted this harsh reality.SPONSORS -4Patriots: Thank you to 4Patriots for sponsoring this episode! "The Silent Twins” follows the harrowing true story of identical twin sisters Jennifer of June Gibbons. The daughters of immigrants who moved to the United Kingdom from Barbados, with their parents, in the early 1960s. After a series of moves related to their father's work, the family settled in Haverfordwest, Wales in 1974. Labeled the Silent Twins for their repeated refusal to speak or read at school or socially engage with anyone but each other, Jennifer and June fell prey to machinations of a system with little room for the idiosyncratic, especially the foreign born. And after repeated trauma-inducing attempts to force them to speak and conform, by psychologists attached to the school administration, both girls were labeled mentally disturbed. In their late teens, a petty crime spree lands the girls in police custody. In lieu of being sentenced like ordinary mischievous kids, a judge confines the Gibbons girls to Broadmoor Hospital, a high security psychiatric facility indefinitely. “The Silent Twins” attempts to pull the reader into the world of the Gibbons sisters and bring their intensely creative drive into sharper focus and convey their actions as those of misunderstood eccentrics. “If you were telling your story, through me, how would you want it to begin?...” Telling someone else's story is tricky; especially if the world's already decided what's important to know about that person. So deciding to shun the standard method, a biopic, and go the route of an outsider art film inspired by their life-altering experiences, is a bold move. One that for director Agnieszka Smoczynska's first English language feature film, is wildly successful emotionally and visually but woefully hampered by its script limitations. Smoczynska's film begins with the elementary age sisters' voices reading the opening credits as though they're radio disc jockeys. It's a bright, fanciful introduction awash with color and the girls' infectious laughter. Only for a knock at the door to abruptly shift everything to a shot of the twins (played with remarkable facility of emotion by Leah Mondesir-Simmonds and Eva-Arianna Baxter) sitting at a bench, facing a wall, with their heads bowed. A side view reveals the duo clenching their hands and one sister shooting a look at the other as though commanding her to remain quiet until their mother leaves the doorway. What follows is a quietly disturbing portrayal of these young girls being ostracized on top of being bullied just for being the only Black children in the community. Mondesir-Simmonds and Eva-Arianna Baxter have an increasingly heartbreaking symmetry that conveys more than any amount of dialogue could ever pull off. The duo imbue their performances with a hefty emotion and disturbing edge that's riveting to witness. Unfortunately, “The Silent Twins” has a serious order of operations problem. Just as you're fully invested in experiencing all this upheaval and increasingly cruel attempts to force the girls out of their shell, the story shifts to Jennifer and June in their late teens. And this here's when it becomes painfully apparent Screenwriter Andrea Siegel's script is inadequate, glaringly so. Because this is less a biopic and more a biographical art film based on Marjorie Wallace's novel by the same name and the diaries and other writings of the twins themselves, the onus is on Seigel to ground every flight of fancy and internal exploration with its external counterpart. We follow the teens journey into creative endeavors, and puberty, but with little wrestling with the events of their childhood in the mix. It dismantles a significant amount of the personality profile being revealed to this point. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that not incorporating those moments from their point of view strengthens the arguments made implicitly and by the end overtly that something is mentally "off" with Jennifer and June. (L to R) Tamara Lawrance stars as Jennifer Gibbons and Letitia Wrigh...

G L studied hauntings in 19th Century literature and has spent most of his career in advertising. He has also studied cobbling, watch repairing, and hairdressing. It was read and reviewed by world renowned Uri Gellar who said: "G L Davies has written an amazing account of what seems to be a real haunted house! I was riveted to every page, I hope the book will be made into a movie some day." G L followed his debut novel with the controversial and polarizing novel called Ghost Sex: The Violation.
