Hey ya! It's been a while… After the radio day job - existing, a bit tired of micromanaging - I needed to take a break from media, just to fall in love again with what I do. So here we are again.A special episode with Yvan Rodic - Facehunter.I first met Yvan in Skopje back in 2010, when my close friend Danijela Simonovska brought him here for an exhibition. Facehunter was really important for us - showing that wearing different clothes, thinking different, feeling different… is something beautiful.Yvan came to Skopje at the peak of his career - globally recognized, traveling the world, meeting amazing people and collecting stories. In the era of 2000's he was huge at that point, really huge. It was genuine culture, no algorithms, no instagram, no influencers just real energy. MySpace and Blogspot and a bit different internet. We celebrated every time he entered a new part of the globe. And now, 16 years later, he's back in Skopje (after traveling across the Balkans). We walked the streets of Skopje together, sharing the parts of the city I love. Yes - I still love my city. And I'm still working on making it better. (It would probably be easier somewhere else, maybe London… but it is what it is - life is more life this way.)In this 109 episode, we talk about Yvan's journey through photography and travel. We're walking through the streets of the world with someone who has spent years observing people - not just what they wear, but who they are. About his new documentary. This is not a conversation about fashion. It's a conversation about curiosity. Presence. Those small, passing moments that somehow stay with us. We also talk about being creative in the AI era, the sound of cities, and how to have a good time in every situation. Maybe that's what it's really about.Life isn't always in the big moments. Sometimes it's in a face you see for a second, a short conversation, or a feeling you can't fully explain.Until the next episode - stay curious, slow down a little, and don't forget to celebrate life as it comes.Follow us and don't forget to subscribe:https://open.spotify.com/show/53FRH6dP5g4VD48mwSHD1c?si=lirq87ZYQxKHgWTS1xx20Qwww.instagram.com/indogwww.instagram.com/facehunterwww.indog.info

Piše Miša Gams, bereta Eva Longyka Marušič in Igor Velše.

Unstoppable Mindset

What if being unstoppable has less to do with confidence and more to do with self-awareness? I had the pleasure of sitting down with Zarko Dimitrioski, a media entrepreneur, actor, talk show host, and marketing agency founder from Macedonia. Zarko shares how growing up as a child television star shaped his confidence, the lessons he learned about ego and leadership, and why experience is often the greatest teacher. We explore marketing, branding, mentorship, business growth, and the value of listening before speaking. Zarko explains how companies build lasting brands, why accountability matters, and how entrepreneurs can thrive even in smaller markets. Along the way, we discuss family, responsibility, personal growth, and what it truly means to develop an unstoppable mindset. I believe you will find his insights on leadership, branding, communication, and lifelong learning both practical and inspiring. Highlights: 01:45 - How a childhood acting career sparked a lifelong passion for media and communication. 07:08 - Why confidence without self-awareness can become a liability. 16:32 - Lessons from the Kellogg School of Management that still shape business decisions today. 21:58 - Why listening beats talking in business, leadership, and life. 35:08 - How strong brands grow through awareness, not just loyalty programs. 01:05:02 - The three traits Zarko looks for when mentoring future leaders. About the Guest: Zarko Dimitrioski is a Macedonian entrepreneur, marketer, and talk-show host who helps brands turn attention into sales. As Managing Partner of BDG Grupa, a full-service creative, digital, and production agency in Skopje, he leads cross-functional teams that deliver end-to-end campaigns for regional and international clients. His operating principle is simple: pair strong product truth with clear, persuasive communication—and measure what matters. In media since the age of six, first as a prominent child-actor, Zarko has hosted One on One (Eден на Еден) for 17 years—the longest-running TV talk show in the country—with Season 17 launching in November 2025. On stage he has addressed audiences from intimate rooms to crowds of 50,000+, relying on a steady system of preparation, calm, and trust whether he's interviewing, keynoting, or directing a brand campaign. Zarko is a Kellogg School of Management alumnus (Northwestern University). He holds college degrees in both Economics and Journalism and a master's degree in Marketing. He serves on the Management Board of the Macedonian Economic Chamber. Honors include Entrepreneur of the Year 2017 (Macedonian Chambers of Commerce and Ministry of Finance) and Forbes 30 Under 30 Europe 2018—Media & Marketing. Under his leadership, BDG has become a premium partner to leading brands across finance, FMCG, tech, and retail. The agency delivers strategy, creative, social, video and animation, media, and performance marketing under one roof, and often acts as a fast, cost-efficient production hub for network agencies such as Luna/TBWA and for UK partners who value BDG's quality-to-cost advantage. A lifelong student of behavioral economics and effectiveness, Zarko designs work that reduces friction, frames value intelligently and moves real numbers. He's passionate about inclusive, accessible content—because it's both right and higher-performing. Building from a small market taught him focus, pragmatism, and speed. He enjoys collaborating with teams who want practical creativity and a low-risk trial that proves value fast. Biljana Vankovska, a Macedonian professor of political science, international relations and peace studies at Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje, delivers a sharp systemic critique of declining Western hegemony in this wide-ranging conversation. She interprets the recent conflicts in the Middle East, particularly the Iran war and the Strait of Hormuz events, alongside the situation in Ukraine as structural turning points signaling the shift toward a multipolar global order. Rooted in her experience growing up in former Yugoslavia and the legacy of the Non-Aligned Movement, Vankovska rejects mainstream narratives that reduce global crises to the personal failings of leaders like Donald Trump or simple kakistocracy. Instead, she argues that the world is witnessing the violent death throes of hyper-imperialism and a declining global capitalist system. She deconstructs the so-called rules-based international order as a euphemism for arbitrary US diktat that masks ongoing neo-colonialism while whitewashing historical atrocities. Vankovska contrasts the media-driven fear, paralysis and moral bankruptcy prevalent in the US and EU with the historical optimism and strategic stamina of the Global South. Evoking Antonio Gramsci, she balances a pessimism of the intellect with an optimism of the will, defending legitimate resistance against the military-industrial-media-academic complex. Ultimately, she views the tragedies in Gaza and Iran not as isolated failures but as painful birth pangs of a new cooperative world order grounded in mutual sovereignty, trust, and emancipation from empire.

In this episode of Peace Matters, we examine Bosnia and Herzegovina thirty years after the Dayton Agreement - a moment marked by uncertainty and international attention. The recent elections in Republika Srpska have reopened debates about public sentiment in the entity, the resilience of ethno-political divisions, and whether new leadership signals real change or continued dominance by entrenched elites. We explore how Bosnia's institutions have evolved since Dayton and whether the country remains locked in a cycle of political deadlock sustained by patronage, constitutional rigidity, and competing nationalisms. At the same time, we look outward: how the United States, the European Union, Russia, and neighboring states such as Serbia, Croatia, and Hungary are shaping the country's trajectory through sanctions, diplomacy, and strategic alliances - raising the question of what Bosnia's future might look like if international supervision were strengthened, reformed, or removed altogether.Guests:Ferenc Németh is a Western Balkans expert and a PhD Candidate at the Corvinus University of Budapest. Montenegro protests expose fragile balance in Serbia-Turkey relations

International report

Anti-Turk protests in Montenegro have added to rising tensions between Serbia and Turkey. The unrest was set off by anger over Ankara's sale of weapons to Kosovo, and growing fears of Turkish influence in the Balkans. “Turks out!” shouted protesters as they marched through Podgorica, the Montenegrin capital. Several Turkish-owned businesses, among the country's largest investors, were ransacked during last month's violence. The clashes were sparked by a knife attack on a Montenegrin citizen by Turkish nationals. After the unrest, Montenegro imposed visa requirements on Turkish visitors. Some opposition parties accused Serbia of stoking the protests, pointing to rising friction between Belgrade and Ankara over the arms sale to Kosovo. “There are those accusing the Serbian region of being behind it,” Vuk Vuksanovic, of the Belgrade Centre for Security Policy, told RFI. “Although I have seen no material evidence.” Widening rift While Serbia has not commented on the accusations, it has the capacity to incite such unrest given its strong influence in Montenegro, Vuksanovic said. “The drama involving Montenegro has built up to this difficult atmosphere in Serbian-Turkish relations,” he said. Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic last month accused Turkey of trying to resurrect the Ottoman Empire through the sale of sophisticated drones to Kosovo, which broke away from Serbia in 1999. Analysts say the weapons deal could shift the balance of power in the region. “There are the kamikaze drones, which are posing a threat, and there are also strategic drones likely to be used to secure the border itself and more as a show of force,” said Zoran Ivanov, a security expert from the Institute of National History in Skopje, North Macedonia. “So it poses a direct security threat to Serbia and Serbia has to react to this.” Criminalising identity: Turkey's LGBTQI+ community under threat Changing alliances The tension marks a sharp turnaround. In recent years, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan had built a close relationship with his Serbian counterpart, and Turkish companies became major investors in Serbia. However the arms sale to Kosovo reveals a shift in Turkey's relations with Belgrade, explained international relations professor Huseyin Bagci, of Ankara's Middle East Technical University. “Turkey has more leverage than Serbia,” Bagci said. “The relations between Turkey and Serbia, we understand each other, but it is not as happy as before.” Analysts say the shift reflects Ankara's wider ambitions in the Balkans. “Ankara is trying to increase its influence and will do it,” said Bagci, adding that Turkey's historical and cultural ties to the region run deep – with millions of families tracing their roots back to the former Ottoman territories. “The Ottoman Empire was a Balkan empire. The Turkish influence is getting bigger, and of course, they don't like it. But Turkey is the big brother in the Balkans.” Turkish Cypriot vote could force shift in Erdogan's approach to divided island Turkish expansion Last month, Turkish forces took command of NATO's KFOR peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. At the same time, Turkish businesses continued expanding across the region. “They're expanding their markets; they're expanding their capabilities; they're expanding their influence,” Ivanov said. Turkey's renewed focus on the Balkans was unsurprising given historical ties, he added. “That's natural for the Turks to come to invest in the region and now looking for their old roots." However its expanding presence might feel like history repeating itself, Ivanov warned. As “a man who is coming from the Balkans,” he said, he sees “the Turks coming as they were in history” – a reminder of a past many in the region have not forgotten. The European Union has praised Ankara for supporting peacekeeping operations and economic aid in Kosovo. But analysts caution that Turkey must avoid alienating its Balkan neighbours. “Ankara also has to be mindful of its own limitations of its own Balkan ambitions," Vuksanovic. said. "Because otherwise it can push majority Christian Orthodox nations like the Serbs, Greeks and Bulgarians to work against the Turks if the Turks are perceived to be too provocative or aggressive.”

Friends of the Rosary,Today, September 5, is the feast day of St. Teresa of Calcutta, Mother Teresa, who was called to work and live among the poorest of the poor in India.Born Agnes Bojaxhiu in Skopje, Albania, at the age of eighteen, she joined the Sisters of Loreto, becoming, as she said, the "spouse of Jesus" for "all eternity."In 1946, Teresa was on a train to Calcutta when she heard the voice of Christ: “I thirst.” It was "a call within a call." Over the next weeks and months, Jesus revealed to her the desire of His heart for “radiating His love on souls.” “I cannot go alone.”He asked Mother Teresa to establish the Missionaries of Charity, a religious community. Then, she went alone to the slums of Calcutta, giving food and medicine and tending the dying. Her simplicity and energy attracted many followers. By the time of her death, 610 houses of her order had been founded.Mother Teresa once said, "A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service, the fruit of service is peace."She also said, "Give yourself fully to God. He will use you to accomplish great things on the condition that you believe much more in His love than in your own weakness."Mother Teresa was a fierce defender of the unborn: "If you hear of some woman who does not want to keep her child and wants to have an abortion, try to persuade her to bring him to me. I will love that child, seeing in him the sign of God's love."Mother Teresa died on September 5, 1997, and was beatified only six years later, on October 19, 2003.Ave Maria!Come, Holy Spirit, come!To Jesus through Mary! Here I am, Lord; I come to do your will. Please give us the grace to respond with joy!+ Mikel Amigot w/ María Blanca | RosaryNetwork.com, New YorkEnhance your faith with the new Holy Rosary University app:Apple iOS | New! Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

"It does not care about the 6000-year-old human history of Skopje. It does not care what language is spoken or what religion is practised. It cares not if it is wanted or shunned, if it drenches the crops or is too little to quench the thirst of livestock. It falls on the rich and the poor and sometimes not at all. "I chose the recording of backyard rain by Toni Dimitrov because it sounds like any rain. I chose it because it is a particular rain. I chose it because once it rained over Skopje in North Macedonia. A place on earth that have had many rulers, none of which could rule the rain." Skopje rainfall reimagined by Eva Q Månsson.

Cities and Memory - remixing the sounds of the world

A summer rain falls over the backyard, drumming softly against the leaves and pooling in the grass. Distant rumbles of thunder roll through the sky, blending with the rhythmic patter of raindrops on the patio and the occasional drip from overhanging branches.  Birds call out between showers, their songs momentarily breaking through the hush of falling water. A light breeze stirs the trees, sending a soft rustle through the damp foliage. The earthy scent of rain-soaked soil and fresh greenery lingers in the air, wrapping the moment in a calm, almost dreamlike atmosphere.  It's a soothing symphony of nature, capturing the peaceful solitude of a warm, rainy afternoon. Recorded in Skopje, Macedonia by Toni Dimitrov.

Full Text of ReadingsThursday of the Twenty-second Week in Ordinary Time Lectionary: 434The Saint of the day is Saint Teresa of CalcuttaSaint Teresa of Calcutta's Story Mother Teresa of Calcutta, the tiny woman recognized throughout the world for her work among the poorest of the poor, was beatified October 19, 2003. Among those present were hundreds of Missionaries of Charity, the order she founded in 1950, as a diocesan religious community. Today the congregation also includes contemplative sisters and brothers, and an order of priests. Born to Albanian parents in what is now Skopje, Macedonia, Gonxha (Agnes) Bojaxhiu was the youngest of the three children who survived. For a time, the family lived comfortably, and her father's construction business thrived. But life changed overnight following his unexpected death. During her years in public school, Agnes participated in a Catholic sodality and showed a strong interest in the foreign missions. At age 18, she entered the Loreto Sisters of Dublin. It was 1928 when she said goodbye to her mother for the final time and made her way to a new land and a new life. The following year she was sent to the Loreto novitiate in Darjeeling, India. There she chose the name Teresa and prepared for a life of service. She was assigned to a high school for girls in Calcutta, where she taught history and geography to the daughters of the wealthy. But she could not escape the realities around her—the poverty, the suffering, the overwhelming numbers of destitute people. In 1946, while riding a train to Darjeeling to make a retreat, Sister Teresa heard what she later explained as “a call within a call. The message was clear. I was to leave the convent and help the poor while living among them.” She also heard a call to give up her life with the Sisters of Loreto and instead, to “follow Christ into the slums to serve him among the poorest of the poor.” hbspt.cta.load(465210, '2c4bdf51-357c-46ab-88c4-984923a66037', {"useNewLoader":"true","region":"na1"}); After receiving permission to leave Loreto, establish a new religious community, and undertake her new work, Sister Teresa took a nursing course for several months. She returned to Calcutta, where she lived in the slums and opened a school for poor children. Dressed in a white sari and sandals–the ordinary dress of an Indian woman–she soon began getting to know her neighbors—especially the poor and sick—and getting to know their needs through visits. The work was exhausting, but she was not alone for long. Volunteers who came to join her in the work, some of them former students, became the core of the Missionaries of Charity. Others helped by donating food, clothing, supplies, and the use of buildings. In 1952, the city of Calcutta gave Mother Teresa a former hostel, which became a home for the dying and the destitute. As the order expanded, services were also offered to orphans, abandoned children, alcoholics, the aging, and street people. For the next four decades, Mother Teresa worked tirelessly on behalf of the poor. Her love knew no bounds. Nor did her energy, as she crisscrossed the globe pleading for support and inviting others to see the face of Jesus in the poorest of the poor. In 1979, she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize. On September 5, 1997, God called her home. Blessed Teresa was canonized by Pope Francis on September 4, 2016. Reflection Mother Teresa's beatification, just over six years after her death, was part of an expedited process put into effect by Pope John Paul II. Like so many others around the world, he found her love for the Eucharist, for prayer, and for the poor a model for all to emulate. Learn more about Mother Teresa! Last week HALC sounded the alarm over North Macedonia's adherence to the Prespa Agreement, launching a letter and petition to the State Department urging it to remind Skopje that international agreements are binding - not optional - and that there will be consequences. North Macedonia's newly elected leaders have repeatedly referred to their country simply as “Macedonia” rather than the constitutional name “North Macedonia”. Given the renewed attention on this issue, we are re-sharing our discussion with Prof. James Ker-Lindsay from last month where we looked into the mixed signals Skopje is sending about the Prespa agreement, and discussed the broader risks this poses for the region. You can read the articles we discuss on our podcast here:HALC Questions North Macedonia's Prespa Agreement ComplianceMitsotakis–Beleri: Albania must follow the European acquisTurkey to soon wind down latest operation in northern Iraq, Erdogan says

All eyes in Athens were on North Macedonia this weekend, as its new government and prime minister were sworn in. While Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski referred to his country as “North Macedonia” when taking his oath, his statements regarding the Prespa Agreement have not been reassuring, and Greece has warned that the a la carte implementation of Prespa is a violation of the agreement. Professor James Ker-Lindsay, who has worked extensively on the EU, the Balkans and Southeast Europe, joins Thanos Davelis to look into the mixed signals the new government in Skopje is sending about the Prespa agreement, and discuss the broader risks this poses for the region. You can read the articles we discuss on our podcast here:Athens ready to alert EU over Prespa Agreement violationWill North Macedonia become Orban's Balkan gateway?New North Macedonia PM describes country's constitutional name as ‘shameful'Albanian court to decide on appeal of jailed ethnic Greek mayor-elect, MEPIn Greece, Another Tourist Found Dead Amid Scorching Heat WaveCity of Athens braces for fresh heatwave

After decades of negotiations and acrimony, Athens and Skopje signed the Prespa Agreement in 2018 that effectively put an end to the Macedonia name dispute and opened the way for North Macedonia to join NATO and start the process toward EU membership. Since the election win of the VMRO-DPMNE in early May, however, its leadership has taken a nationalist turn that could put this deal at risk. Tom Ellis, the editor in chief of Kathimerini's English edition, joins Thanos Davelis to look into what he has called a destabilizing nationalism from Skopje, and break down what the broader risks are for not just North Macedonia and Greece, but the region. You can read the articles we discuss on our podcast here:Destabilizing nationalism in North MacedoniaPoland and Greece urge EU to create common air shield, says Polish PMVon der Leyen backs Polish, Greek calls for EU air defense shieldMitsotakis tells Zelenskyy Greece will continue to support KyivUkraine renews military aid request
