Episode 447Taking you back to 8/19/2014 - This week features one of the most popular formats in the history of the BBQ Central Show: the round table. In what stands as one of our final round table discussions, we gather top competitors and pork pitmasters of their era for a competition pork round table. The featured guests include:David Qualls - American Dream BBQ TeamMatt Barber - Hot WachulasDarren Warth - Iowa Smokey D'sFor anyone unfamiliar with these competitors, this serving as an ideal primer comes at a time when competition BBQ remained a major focus across the industry. Back then, the competition scene actively drove major trends, and interest in competitive BBQ was exceptionally high—making it a treat to revisit who was dominating the field and what recipes were taking top honors*Don't forget to RATE AND REVIEW THE SHOW ON YOU PODCAST APP*Want to hear more from this episode...Click the link below to hear the full show:Original Air Date: 8/19/2014Original Full Show Link: CLICK HERE

Episode 445Taking you back to 3/4/2014 - Ask and you shall receive! This week, Jon has put together a show that I requested a number of weeks back featuring a segment that I believe was an "all-time" moment in show history. Michael "Medium-Rare" O'Donnell was my guest...and while the segment itself was good...what he said at the end was...ICONIC!Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Episode 444Taking you back to 1/14/2020 - A 4th week in a row of our pal Doug requesting shows…and I believe the last one of this month long request streak…in this segment, Meathead returns and we have quite an in-depth discussion…dare I say…back and forth…on reverse sear and sous vide cooking. Specifically, we talk about sous vide water temps as it relates to safety (not finish internal temps). He also talked about smoke and fire as it relates to cocktails…basically, taking cocktail favorites and adding either fire to fruit…or the “smoke gun” smoke…By the way…THIS is the segment that birthed the “Pineapple is the best thing off the grill” take from Meathead…which…then…also birthed the 2nd ever animation of a segment on this show done by a young animator…Damian Rodriguez, who I have fallen out of contact with at this point…shame on me.So be ready to hear how this all came together organically back in early 2020.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Episode 443Taking you back to 2/4/2020 - A third week of requested shows from our pal Doug Scheiding from Texas…This time around, first Tuesday of the month regular guest, Malcom Reed, joined me and we got into a deep discussion about a steak contest he was at…but more importantly than that…we also talked a LOT about the associated Bloody Mary contest that the event also staged…If you are any kind of fan of this show over the past 10 years or so…you know where I come out on Bloody Mary contests. Biggest waste of a drink ever…yes. Biggest waste of an inordinate amount of food hanging off a drink glass ever…YES.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Episode 439Taking you back to 6/19/2009 - Being featured this week is the current KCBS CEO and pitmaster of Pellet Envy, Rod Gray. Before his CEO position, Rod did the competition circuit and all the way back in 2009, he was on the KCBS BOD where he served as treasurer. In this segment, we talked about why he decided to run for the board…and ultimately…why he chose to resign his position back in the early summer of 2009. I was talking to someone the other day about the history of the show…and as Jon Solberg has said many times…The BBQ Central Show is actually a real-time account of what has been happening, changing and evolving in the BBQ and grilling industry. If you wanted to get a snap shot of the industry over the past 2 decades…you really just need to go back and listen to the shows to see what was popular and important at any particular time between the years 2006 up until 2026. Episode 438Taking you back to 11/22/2016 - I mentioned it a few weeks back…and because he is the best EVP of any podcast every…Jon Solberg went right to work to locate and produce the show that features not only the BEST story ever heard on this show…in my opinion…it is the singular BEST STORY ever TOLD on this show…the ENTIRE history of this show…to me…to many…to the dedicated fans who have been here and heard it all…we all agree that this segment, featuring Chad Ward…of a then “Whiskey Bent BBQ”...is the best story heard and told on this show…I even go so far as to add this qualifier…”And It's NOT EVEN CLOSE”. If I only got one story out of the entirety of this podcast…THIS is the one that every other segment is compared to. Not even the segment where Michael “Medium Rare” O'Donnell asked me…live on this show…and I quote…”Have you ever fucked an Elephant??” Not even that, comes close to the Chad Ward “Bear Trapper” story that you are set to hear this coming Friday morning!I welcome your feedback…and remember, this segment was the genesis for the very first “animated segment” on the show…which I will go ahead a replay next week…but be sure to listen to the Best Moments Show this coming Friday…and tell me if I am wrong!Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Are high-ticket offers taking months to close or getting stuck in endless sales calls?Debbie Allen has built a system that flips that process. Instead of chasing prospects or relying on long follow-ups, the focus shifts to how the offer is positioned, presented, and experienced in real time.In this episode, Debbie breaks down how one client sold a $100K offer in just a few hours by restructuring the message and removing friction from the buying process. The same approach replaces tire kickers with serious buyers and creates demand before the sales conversation even begins. This conversation explores what actually makes people ready to spend at a high level, why most experts undercharge, and how live environments can accelerate trust and decision-making faster than traditional funnels. If you want to understand how high-ticket offers can move faster without adding more steps, this episode walks through the structure behind it.What You'll Learn:Why high-ticket offers get stuck in long sales cyclesHow $100K offers can sell in hours instead of monthsWhat changes when you remove sales calls from the processHow live environments create faster buying decisionsThe structure behind Debbie Allen's Throwout OfferWhy most experts undercharge and miss higher-value buyersWhat makes an audience ready to spend at a higher levelIf high-ticket offers are getting stuck in long sales cycles or attracting the wrong buyers, this episode breaks down where the gap starts and how to reposition your offer for faster decisions.Learn more from Debbie Allen and the Throwout Offer approach:Website: https://debbieallen.com/Connect with Debbie Allen for more on stage selling and high-ticket offers:https://www.linkedin.com/in/debbie-allen-throwoutofferSubscribe for more conversations on how experts turn knowledge into revenue:https://www.youtube.com/@GarlicMarketingShowIf you want access to the 50% promotion Debbie mentioned, comment below or reply if you received this by email, and we'll send you the details.Resources:● Connect with Ian● Download a Tackle Box!● Supercharge your marketing and grow your business with video case stories today!● Subscribe to the YouTube Channel Hosted on Acast. Episode 426Taking you back to 4/12/2011 - This week features Darren Warth of Iowa Smokey D's BBQ. In this particular episode we talk about his participation in the first ever Sam's Club local event…at this time in his career, Darren was doing a lot of “flying into locations” and cooking on any cooker he could get his hands on. The most impressive part of this, of course, is he was winning a lot of these events…or at a minimum…being very competitive.Of course there was a lot of talk about Sam's and their participation in this event…the excitement of this new “tour” being launched…which ultimately became known as one of the best events in BBQ history…gone now…but obviously not forgotten. For those unacquainted with Darren…this is a good segment to hear the “calm” nature of the person many consider to be the best competition BBQ'er of all time.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Episode 425Taking you back to 3/15/2011 - This week features ME giving YOU "grilling season" maintenance tips. As the weather starts to break...maybe...in various parts of the country (and world) it's always good practice to do a thorough cleaning of you grills and smokers. You should actually do this more than once per year if you are a heavy user. Remember, a clean grill is a healthy grill. Also, stop using wire grill brushes. They are dangerous.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Email Jon Solberg and let him know what you would like to hear on a future episode! Episode 424Taking you back to 3/10/2008 - This week features another esteemed figure in the world of barbecue who has appeared on this program. For those familiar with the Dizzy Pig BBQ brand and competition team, the name Chris Cappell will be recognizable. He is considered one of the pioneers in transitioning spice rub distribution from the confines of specialty stores into broader commercial markets. Chris successfully achieved widespread distribution into numerous mainstream retail locations. Not only that…in his prime competition days…Dizzy Pig was a formidable presence on the circuit. They utilized Big Green Eggs for cooking, and a significant number of other teams incorporated products from the Dizzy Pig portfolio into their own competition rub blends. As an individual who has used a variety of Dizzy Pig rubs over the years, I can attest with absolute certainty that they remain among the finest available for both competitive events and home culinary applications. For those unacquainted with Chris, this upcoming Friday's segment will serve as an excellent introduction.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? THE BETTER BELLY PODCAST - Gut Health Transformation Strategies for a Better Belly, Brain, and Body
Do you ever feel like your emotions inside you are so big that you don't know how you'll ever have enough time to process them? Do you feel like you get triggered at the sign of a single symptom, or conversation, or thought - and it takes you hours or days to feel calm again? Or maybe you're living with chronic illness, chronic pain, or ongoing stress — and you're wondering how can you ever regulate your emotions when your body feels constantly at war / threatened? If you said “yes” to any of these questions, this episode is for you. Today's episode continues our series exploring the emotional weight of chronic illness. And it's a particularly special episode, as we're going to talk with emotions experts, author, and founders of Connection Codes, Dr. Glenn and Phyllis Hill. Dr. Glenn and Phyllis are passionate about helping people discover that emotions aren't a problem to fix, but a powerful, natural tool to master - so that homes can be healed, marriages strengthened, and communities transformed. As we continue with our chronic illness and mental health series, I'm sharing the things that anchored me on my journey toward wholeness — and Dr. Glenn and Phyllis have been a part of my recent journey and something I've found so healing and empowering. So I'm sharing them with you! In today's episode, we're diving into:How to regulate your emotions in 4 minutes or lessWhy processing emotions doesn't need to take hours, days, weeks, or yearsSymptoms of suppressing unprocessed emotions vs. emotional regulation What the 8 core emotions are - and why being able to name them is so powerful in emotional regulationProcessing emotions with chronic illness - including stress, grief, and emotional healing We'll talk about what emotional regulation really means, why “control your emotions” often backfires in the process of healing, and how you can make your emotions your friend on your journey of chronic illness and mental health. If you've been doing everything you know how to do and you're still not better, I hope this episode meets you exactly where you are. Not to fix you. Not to promise a breakthrough. But to strengthen your inner heart that illness, stress, and unprocessed emotions may have been quietly wearing down. Episode 422Taking you back to 2/19/2019 - This week we feature…my favorite person…ME!! Back, 6 years ago, I was talking about my first experience with seeing/hearing corporal punishment in school…specifically middle school. For those who don't know…I originated in upstate New York and moved to Cleveland in the middle of 6th grade. My Dad took a transfer from then…Saratoga Springs, NY…to Bomb City USA.Within the first few months…I saw a kid I knew (who was in my class) get walked into the boys bathroom by the math teacher…the teacher has a wooden paddle in his hand…and minutes later…SWAT! And, of course, my man Marcus Esoniza, screeching like a bitch…It was a scarring moment…one that made me think twice about doing ANYTHING sideways…becuase in Cleveland…they will beat you!! He was in Canton, OH for a Sam's Club local qualifier back in the day…I drove down to see it…met Robert…and he was the first guy to give me a sample of sliced money muscle…and to say it was life changing would be an understatement!!Anyway…a great intro segment to Robert if you don't know him…so be sure to catch it.And according to Jon…this whole show…which was only an hour back then…worthy of a multi-show Best Moments…so be sure to check it out.Ready to make a “BEST OF” show all your own?? Are meetings burning out your team? In the final episode of this five-part series, Kevin and workplace culture expert Jennifer Moss examine how meeting overload drives burnout and reduces productivity. Data shows a 252% increase in Microsoft Teams meetings since 2019 and the rise of "pajama hours," when employees feel compelled to catch up on work during off-hours. Jennifer explains why video calls exhaust us more than we realize and why phone calls might be your secret weapon against fatigue. They share practical strategies: conduct a calendar audit, convert some meetings to asynchronous formats, and invite people only when they're truly needed. They also challenge leaders to reframe declining meetings; it's not a slight, it's a gift of time. Jennifer's Story: Jennifer Moss specializes in future-focused leadership development, expertly balancing employee well-being with performance. How can leaders build better workplace culture by rethinking hybrid work? In this fourth episode of the culture mini-series, Kevin and Jennifer Moss look at how hybrid work habits are quietly shaping workplace culture in ways that undermine both people and performance, often without leaders realizing it. They argue that treating in-office and remote days identically is a missed opportunity and that leaders should design distinct expectations for each work context. They discuss why many employees feel frustrated by return-to-office mandates when the work itself hasn't changed, and how this disconnect erodes trust and motivation. The conversation highlights a simple shift leaders can make: use in-office days for collaboration, relationship-building, and shared experiences, while protecting remote days for focused, uninterrupted work. Episode 419Taking you back to 2/8/2011 - This week featuring a BBQ legend…and cancer philanthropist, Scottie Johnson of Cancer Sucks Chicago. Within the minutes of this show we talk about the cooking class he was doing…to not only help BBQ'ers become better cooks…but to help raise $$ for cancer research at the time. And just for some background on Scottie…I use the term legend not in a “how many competitions he won” sense…although he did win the Jack back in the day. I say it within the scope of helping shape the way BBQ became more popular…especially across the internet. Scottie was very involved with The BBQ Forum…was on my BBQ message board back then as well…was quite an advocate for competition BBQ back then…all while trying to ensure that he could maximize the “Cancer Sucks Chicago” foundation that he started in memory of his wife. A very proud Chicago-in to say the least…I always thought that when I heard him talk…I always heard some Ray Lampe as well. So, if you don't know Scottie…this is a good segment of introduction…and be sure to go back and listen to the whole thing…By the way…side mentions of Mike and Beth Wozniak…from one of the best teams in BBQ competition history…originally it was “Bar-B-Quau…ultimately just being called Quau…but Mike and Beth were a dominant force on the KCBS circuit for years and years…a former KCBS Team of the Year….and good people…you can search him in the show archives…Mike appeared a few times back in the day…I think he even took part in a round table show, if I'm not mistaken. How can leaders bridge the growing generational divide in today's workplace? In this third episode of our special five-part series, Changing Your Culture in Twenty Minutes or Less, Kevin and workplace culture expert Jennifer Moss discuss the realities of generational stereotypes. With five generations now working together for the first time in history, misunderstandings and miscommunications are inevitable. Jennifer and Kevin challenge the lazy labels and instead encourage leaders to embrace explicit communication, check their biases, and reimagine onboarding and development with clarity and purpose in mind. They share the importance of explaining not just what needs to be done, but how and why, creating a more inclusive and effective workplace culture.
