Welcome to episode 4 of "G'DAY FROM THE USA," a podcast where we explore the experiences of an Australian living and working in the USA. I'm your host, Lady Amanda, and today we have Kyla, a true American from Oregon, and our special guest Annie, a 10-year-old sports enthusiast. We'll be discussing various topics and putting Annie's knowledge of the USA to the test.We begin with highlights from our week, including watching an inspiring movie about Jessica Watson, who sailed solo around the world at the age of 16. Lady Amanda almost made it to the gym but ended up spending more time on the massage chairs than exercising. We also have a friendly rivalry over a Guinness World Record helium balloon with a challenger from down under.A shout-out goes to Lady Amanda's cousin Sarah, who bid farewell to her beloved cat Igby. The snowy weather prompted Lady Amanda to provide wildlife with food on her porch, leading to fascinating bird-watching experiences. She even spotted her first woodpecker up close, delving into interesting facts about these unique birds.Next, we have segments like word pronunciation, where Annie gets to test her skills. Lady Amanda takes a break from the citizenship test questions and asks Annie about her impressions of Australia, including riding kangaroos to school and the weather there. We delve into why the USA still uses imperial measurement, despite most countries transitioning to the metric system. Lady Amanda shares interesting facts, such as Australia adopting the metric system in 1974 and the limited metric usage in America, like soft drink bottles and medicine.Random questions and a truth or lie segment follow, where we learn about the first police force in Australia, the country's purebred camels, the percentage of Australians born in another country, and Australia's role in seat belt law history. In odd news, we discuss a German ice cream parlor offering cricket-flavored scoops, a popular Australian beer recalled for excess alcohol content (much to the delight of Australians), and an Arizona resident finding a bobcat on their dog's bed.The episode concludes with a listener voicemail and a call for questions or feedback. On last week's show we said that there would be a big announcement this week about changes that are coming to the ministry, and now the wait is over. Today we will be praising God for the testimonies of our lives and the incredible ways that He has moved in them. Join us as we again look to those memorial stones for encouragement. In times of growth there can be great discomfort, but we believe that this time of change will bring forth a very fruitful season of amazing growth for the Zach Drew Show and for IGBY. ********** If you would like to donate, just follow this link: https://www.zachdrewshow.com/donate/ and hit the bright orange “Donate” button! This week it's Gaius' pick and he and Owen deep dive into 2002's Igby Goes Down, directed by Burr Sterrs and starring Kieran Culkin, Claire Danes, Jeff Goldblum, Susan Sarandon, Amanda Peet, Ryan Phillippe, Bill Pullman and Jared Harris. The duo get into the making of film, its comparisons to J.D. Salinger's The Catcher in the Rye, its critical success, and why it didn't quite hit at the box office.

After going down with Igby, Mike repays the favor this season in I Eat Movies #21: Dino's First Time - Jack the Bear (1993). A charming coming of age oddity that stars Danny DeVito giving one of his most vulnerable performances as a single father raising two sons following the death of their mother, cohosts Mike and Dino explore The Wonder Years effect of nostalgia and voiceover narration in similar films of this era as well as the less than tidy production design of these features that offer a much under-appreciated warmth to their proceedings. Join us as we explore monsters, real and imagined, as well as themes of loss and growing up all while Mike nurses a migraine in I Eat Movies #21: Dino's First Time - Jack the Bear (1993)!

Entering uncharted territory with an indie cut from the early 2000s, cohosts Dino and Mike shine some silver spoons for their latest serving of cinema consumption In I Eat Movies #15: Mike's First Time - Igby Goes Down (2002). Wrought with scathing sarcasm, occasional melancholy and the desire to find yourself free from the environment in which you were raised, Dino makes his case for Burr Steers' little film that could. In addition, the fellas discuss the understated grace of Bill Pullman while also recognizing that seeing Amanda Peet or Parker Posey in a film from this time immediately informs the period. As if all this were not enough, Dino shocks Mike with a revelation on Edgar Wright and his latest opus, Last Night In Soho. Tune in while it's hot and leave hungry for more I Eat Movies!

Goldblum gets to be his sleaziest as he portrays D.H. Barnes, the godfather to a rich kid who runs off on his own. That kid is Igby, played by Kieran Culkin in his breakout role. Taking inspiration from early Wes Anderson movies and a J.D. Salinger book (guess which one), this is a solid independent comedy-drama with a killer cast that also includes Bill Pullman, Claire Danes, Amanda Peet, Jared Harris, Susan Sarandon, and Ryan Phillippe. Cincinnati restauranteur and bar owner Bob Deck, a managing partner at Four Entertainment Group, joined The Enquirer's That's So Cincinnati podcast this week to chat about: Jeff Ruby's impact on Deck's career 4EG's role in the revitalization of Downtown and Over-the-Rhine The struggles of being a bar and restaurant owner during a pandemic Expansion, including opening the Ernest Hemingway-inspired bar, Pilar, soon at the Court Street Plaza Four Entertainment Group launched about 15 years ago, around the time 3CDC was beginning its work to redevelopment Over-the-Rhine. The group has 18 bars restaurants in Cincinnati, Covington, Columbus and Chicago. It's notable Greater Cincinnati brands include: Igby's in Downtown, The Lackman in Over-the-Rhine and Keystone in Covington and Clifton. As a young adult, Deck, who grew up in Anderson Township, parked cars at Jeff Ruby's Waterfront restaurant. Deck enjoyed the experience of working in the restaurant business. He initially pursued a career as a chiropractor after graduating from Miami University, but Deck and some friends got together to start 4EG. Deck has never forgotten what some call the "Jeff Ruby experience" – it's all about impeccable customer service and making the customer feel special during their entire visit to one of Ruby's steakhouses. "It was just amazing to watch how he would always take care of people and want all of his employees to take care of people," Deck said. "From the moment you pull your car up with the valet until you're experience inside, that was what they took pride on and have continued to this day."
There are many false teachings in the church that are going to be a stumbling block for some Christians as we move into these last days — teachings like: “God will never give you more than you can handle,” and, “If it's God's will, then it will happen.” On today's show, we are going to be tackling these claims as we hope to embolden and prepare the body of Christ for the days ahead. God has actually ordained the church to endure certain hardships that are in fact “more than we can handle” to make us rely on Him and purify the bride of Christ before His return. Many believe that we will be raptured out of this world before the tribulation occurs. On today's show, we are going to be making a case for the mid-tribulation rapture that, according to scripture, will likely occur at the blowing of the seventh trumpet in the book of Revelation. ********** Today we are celebrating two years of ministry with IGBY and the Zach Drew Show! Jeffrey and Shelly go beyond the tech talk and talk about the importance of building your old fashion, in-person network. Then they take a deep dive into the importance of controlling your data, the importance of adapting, and why future-proofing is a waste of your time. We are officially in the new year! And 2020 is going to be a very important year for each of us individually, for IGBY as a ministry, and for America as a nation. So much is on the line for the presidential election this year. Really think about it: second amendment rights, the LGBT agenda, gender confusion, the legalization of psychedelics, and abortion. The spiritual warfare in this country is ramping up. Whether you are awake to it or not, you as a Christian are right in the middle of the battlefield. This week has been a week of reflection for me — a time of remembering what the Lord has done. I have been going back in my mind and visiting the memorial stones of my Life, where GOD moved mightily, to encourage myself in the Lord. Fortunately, two of those moments were recorded, and I wanted to share those memories with you today. I hope that, by sharing this part of my testimony, you will be encouraged to revisit those memorial stones in your own life, and that God will restore to you the joy of your salvation. I also hope to encourage you to join me as I recast the vision for IGBY, making our purpose and calling plain. There is so much that God wants to do through this ministry, and we need your help. Why is it that it seems New Age beliefs are more pervasive in evangelical charismatic circles rather than other denominations? I am not here to bash evangelicals. I am one. I am a conservative Charismatic Evangelical, but I see a lot of very troubling trends within our denominations. Whenever you elevate signs and wonders and the spirit moving in your congregations OVER the priority of salvation and the cross I believe you are MORE susceptible to deceiving spirits entering your congregations. Why? Because you are out of the divine order that Jesus illustrated in the scripture. It was about the gospel being preached and signs and wonders following to affirm that Jesus is who he says He is. It wasn't just about signs and wonders. We at IGBY and ‘The Zach Drew Show' are firm believers that God still moves through signs and wonders, through miracles, healing, and prophetic words. The Word says in 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21, “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good.” The Charismatic church has done the first two well, but how about the third? Have we lost our discernment? When these demonic spirits go unchecked, guess where they go? No where! They stay where they are welcomed, whether knowingly or unknowingly. That is why so many of our churches are being affected by New Age beliefs. We now treat our prophets in the church like palm readers, “Come to the service and everyone gets a word.” We now have ministries like ‘Christ Alignment' —A ministry that uses Christian ‘Tarot cards' to reach youth at EDM festivals by giving them a ‘reading'. Say what?! Or how about the thousands of Christians that are now practicing ‘Christian yoga' to get closer to God? Many are actually practicing it within your church during the week. Like I said earlier, when the spirits go unchecked and signs and wonders are elevated to a higher position than the cross I believe you are MORE susceptible to deceiving spirits entering your congregations. Let us repent of NOT making the main thing the main thing. And that is Jesus! Follow the Zach Drew show at ZachDrewShow.com Please consider partnering with us! They call him the “The Nice Guy”. They’ve always called him that. Steve Mingolla never met a person he didn’t like. Steve was encouraged to enter a talent show as a comedian by his acting coach. The thrill of making an audience laugh had him hooked. Stand-up comedy would forever change his life. That following year, Steve dropped out of college and moved to Hollywood, CA to follow his bliss. He landed a job as a doorman at the “World Famous” Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. It was there that he worked with and learned from comics such as Dennis Miller, Louie Anderson, Gary Shandling, Sam Kinison and Lenny Clark, just to name a few. On one fateful occasion, Dennis Miller offered to watch and critique Steve’s performance at Igby’s Comedy Club in Santa Monica. After his set, Dennis took Steve aside to offer a perspicacious analysis. Dennis said, “Stevie, I’ve been doing comedy for fourteen years. I can say f… any time I want…you can’t! It just doesn’t sound right coming out of your mouth.” It was at that moment, Mingolla realized that although some comics become quite successful through the use of explicit language, his path would have to be clean. His mantra is in the immortal words of Jonathan Winters, “…never let that child inside of you die.”
