New Zealand First Leader Winston Peters says he wasn't dragged kicking and screaming into a new foreign investors deal. The Government's approved changes to allow people with an investor residence visa to buy or build one home, starting at $5 million. They're required to invest an extra $5 million into the economy to qualify. Peters told Mike Hosking he supports the changes and wants to make very clear it's not a change to the foreign buyers ban. He says it's a change to investment rules to attract money to the country that we desperately need. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
More money could soon circulate through the economy as the Government opens up the country to more overseas businesspeople. Under its new Business Investor Visa, foreign investors who put at least $2 million into a Kiwi business will be granted a 12-month fast-track to residence pathway. People who invest $1 million will be given a three-year work-to-residence option. ABC Business Sales Managing Director Chris Small told Kerre Woodham more capital needs to be brought in. He says when it starts going towards business owners, it'll be recycled back into our economy. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

The number of people coming in on the Government's new Business Investor Visa could be limited. It'll fast track residency for any foreign investors who put $2 million or more into a Kiwi business. If a business is worth $2 million, the applicant will have to buy it, and they'll have to invest at least a quarter of its total value if it's worth more than that. Immigration Minister Erica Stanford told Mike Hosking she thinks around 100 of these visas will be granted in the first year. She said this isn't an Oprah-style “everyone gets a visa” situation. More foreign investors could soon flock in to work hard on Kiwi businesses. The Government's new Business Investor Visa will give foreign businesspeople who invest at least $2 million into an existing Kiwi business a fast-track to residency. If a business is worth $2 million, the applicant would have to buy it, and if it's worth more, they'd have to invest at least a quarter of its total value. Auckland Business Chamber Chief Executive Simon Bridges told Ryan Bridge this definitely justifies a fast-track to residency. He says the person who buys will have to work on the business for a period of time. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

And Chris Hipkins told Mike Hosking the last 48 hours with Kiri Allan's car crash and the fall-out from it have been very difficult. Hipkins won't say whether the Quay Street gunman should have been behind bars. Two people died and four people remain in hospital in stable conditions, after the gunman opened fire at a construction site in downtown Auckland on Thursday morning. The offender was working at the site, while on electronically monitored bail for domestic violence. He says there's still a lot of investigations underway, and he won't be making public comment while those are still ongoing. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
