As enterprises expand across multiple cloud environments, on-premise data centers, and dynamic AI workloads, traditional perimeter defenses and siloed cloud-native tools are no longer enough to secure the modern network. In this episode, Ashish sits down with Murali Rathinasamy, Senior Director of Product at Cisco, to break down the next evolution of network security: the Hybrid Mesh Firewall. Murali explains why relying solely on cloud-native firewalls can create visibility gaps, and how unified policy orchestration allows security teams to manage enforcement points seamlessly. He shares a real-world case study of how Multicloud Defense is used to eliminate manual route table configurations and achieve zero-downtime, blue-green upgrades. The conversation also tackles micro-segmentation. Murali breaks down why segmentation initiatives usually stall in "analysis paralysis" and provides a practical, agentless roadmap to reduce your attack surface "one bite at a time". “The issue isn't the strength of the idea. It's whether it connects to what the other person cares about.” - Winnie da SilvaWhy do some ideas land instantly… while others just hang in the air, no matter how well you explain them?In this episode, I break down a simple but powerful leadership concept that can completely change how you influence others, especially when you don't have formal authority. I share how understanding what people truly care about (their “currency”) can shift conversations, build trust faster, and help your message actually stick. You'll hear me discuss:Why strong arguments alone don't guarantee influenceWhat “currency” really means and how it shows up in everyday leadershipHow to spot what someone values based on their behavior and prioritiesSimple ways to reframe your message so it connects and landsHow this applies to stakeholders, feedback, trust-building, and big conversationsWhy influence is less about pushing your point and more about aligning with what matters to othersResources Winnie da Silva on LinkedIn | On the Web | Substack | YouTube | Email - winnie@winnifred.org

Most people watch the Olympics and see the result. Chari Hawkins lived two and a half decades of work to get there, and almost didn't make it. I sit down with US Olympian and world-class heptathlete Chari Hawkins for a wide-ranging conversation about what it actually takes to build mental toughness from scratch, compete at the highest level with a broken heart, and figure out who you are when the sport is no longer the whole answer. This is not a highlight reel conversation. Chari is honest about the panic attacks, the identity crises, the years of therapy, the breakdowns under a tent at track meets, and the visualization breakthrough that got her to the 2024 Paris Olympics. She's also sharp, curious, and deeply thoughtful about what sport teaches you about life, not the other way around. If you've ever had to do hard things while scared, this one is for you. What we explore:Why tying your identity to a single role, athlete, title, achievement, sets you up for a crisis the moment it ends. How Chari used a three-word visualization framework to silence the fear before the race that got her to Paris. Why mental toughness is not a personality trait, and what the actual work of building it looks like under pressure. What not winning a World Championship medal gave her that a podium finish never could have. How competition-day nutrition, breathwork, and sleep tools function as a performance system, and what happens when you get them wrong.Chapter:00:00 Intro01:35 Why Competing Can Disconnect You From Yourself10:56 Why She Chose the Heptathlon16:49 How to Learn New Skills Faster Than Everyone Else21:31 Sports Psychology Tools That Actually Work36:28 How to Support Someone After Failure49:25 The “See, Feel, Trust” Performance Technique01:00:10 Parenting, Discipline, and Mental Strength01:12:41 Peak Performance and Age in the Olympics01:24:05 Bouncing Back After a Devastating Moment01:34:46 What Losing Teaches You That Winning Can't01:36:54 What Athletes Eat on Competition Day01:47:08 Balancing Training, Recovery, and Performance01:51:05 A 30-Day Plan to Build Mental Strength02:00:22 Sprint Training Mindset and Workouts02:11:17 Overcoming Injury Fear and Recovery02:17:33 Sleep, Travel, and Mental Recovery Tools02:28:46 Future Goals and Final Lessons About Chari HawkinsChari Hawkins is a US Olympic heptathlete who competed at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Ladies, it's time to embrace our mess! Because our mess has the most to offer us.In our latest episode, Monique shares her transformative experience with a group of women who bravely confronted their struggles and emotions. Each woman, while successful in her own right, expressed feelings of falling short in various aspects of life—be it motherhood, relationships, or career. This candid discussion highlights a common theme: the burden of perfectionism and the unrealistic standards that high achieving women often impose on themselves.Join in to find out how accepting your mess can give you real clarity and a better way to connect with who you really are.LINKSYouTube channel Join Monique's NewsletterGEMS DROPPED“I think this is the nature of high achievement, where we feel we're coming up short because the bar is way, way, way too high. And that, way, way, way, way too high bar serves us in many ways throughout our life. And so it's tricky when that same strength becomes your greatest weakness. Having an extremely high bar in life, when you don't wield it with intention, with thoughtfulness, is a lot of suffering.”“If you allow it, if you submit to yourself, you get to find that the message is not actually too much for anybody.““Many people won't take that step, won't move past that threshold, that marker of control, that line of demarcation, because they believe if they start crying, if they start raging, if they let the sadness out, the confusion out, that they'll never stop. That it feels so vast and so deep that no one can contain it. No one would be able to hold the space for it. And it feels unending. be. It's never as scary as you think it's going to be. And when you allow yourself to let some of that steam out of the pot, you allow yourself to be out loud in your mess, like you just kind of relinquish control, again in safe held space, that you get to meet the side of yourself that you've been dying to meet.”“Our mess has the most to offer us, our mess has the peace that we're craving, our mess has the creativity that we can't access, our mess is where our compass lies in seasons of life, where we feel so lost.”“Just because somebody is feeling fragile in a moment, somebody is breaking and cracking in a moment, doesn't mean that that is who they are. That fragility is something that we experience sometimes, that we move through, that we learn from, that we need to just be with. And then you find your way. We are all whole.”“It is a practice. It is a skill. It is a capacity to build within yourself. Host: Todd DeVoeCo-Host: Andrew BoyarskyGuest: Shannon McNamee, Author of Strategic Disaster CoordinationEpisode OverviewDespite decades of investment, disaster response continues to struggle under pressure. The issue is not a lack of effort or experience. It is structural. In this episode, Todd DeVoe and Andrew Boyarsky sit down with Shannon McNamee, author of Strategic Disaster Coordination, to examine a critical gap in the United States' disaster response. This is not a critique of performance. It is a conversation about system design.Emergency management in the U.S. is built for incidents that are bounded, short-term, and controllable. Disasters are none of those things. Rather than redesigning the system, we have expanded it—adding layers, complexity, and cost without addressing the underlying mismatch. This discussion focuses on the operational and strategic implications for emergency managers across all levels of government. The all-hazards framework remains essential, but the scale, duration, and interconnected nature of disasters demand a system built specifically for them.About the Guest For more than 15 years, Shannon McNamee has worked at the center of disaster response and coordination—leading operations, building cross-sector partnerships, and designing training that strengthens real-world readiness. Through her roles with FEMA and the American Red Cross, she helped guide large-scale response and recovery efforts while supporting planning, training, and policy development across all levels of government and community partners. As a consultant, she has focused on turning lessons learned into lasting, practical improvements. She is the author of Strategic Disaster Coordination, a book that challenges conventional thinking in emergency management by arguing that the core issue is not performance, but system design. Drawing on field experience, policy analysis, and research, the book outlines why the current model falls short in disasters—and offers a framework for building a system intentionally designed for them.Key Themes & TakeawaysDisasters ≠ EmergenciesEmergency systems are built for short, contained incidents. Disasters are prolonged, complex, and disruptive. Treating them the same creates failure points. It's a Design ProblemThe issue isn't training or resources. The system is built for control and stabilization, not long-duration, networked crises.More Layers, Same ProblemsWe respond to each disaster by adding plans and structures, increasing complexity without improving outcomes.Old Thinking, New RisksCold War-era assumptions still shape policy, but modern disasters are nonlinear, interconnected, and unpredictable. Why Lessons RepeatRecurring failures aren't accidental. They are produced by the system itself.Misaligned FrameworksA security-driven model has influenced disaster management, often at the expense of resilience and recovery.Building What's MissingEffective disaster management requires intentional design—integrated, adaptive, and built for how disasters actually unfold. U.S. government agencies continued to have low compliance with a statute designed to ensure that federal websites, software, and other products are accessible for people with disabilities, according to a recent federal review. In a new report, the General Services Administration found that alignment with the accessibility statute known as Section 508 was a 1.96 on a 5-point scale, continuing a trend of lacking compliance. GSA reported that roughly half of agencies didn't review accessibility for their most-used information and communication technology tools, and the majority of agencies don't conduct usability testing with people who have disabilities before resources are deployed or published. The poor compliance showing follows similar findings from past GSA reviews and indicates that more work is needed to help agencies comply. As a result, GSA concluded its report with recommendations that Congress both update the statute to clarify requirements and strengthen enforcement and oversight of agency compliance. The annual report is required by statute and was prepared in consultation with the White House Office of Management and Budget and the U.S. Access Board, an independent agency that establishes Section 508 standards. The report includes responses from 212 agencies, parent agencies, and other components. Its publication follows changes to the review process aimed at reducing the reporting burden on agencies. The top Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee is demanding a full, independent investigation into new reports of DOGE representatives improperly accessing and transferring Social Security Administration data. In a press release sent Tuesday, Sen. Gary Peters, D-Mich., said “new disclosures revealed DOGE personnel may have broken federal law and exposed Americans' most sensitive personal information, including Social Security numbers.” The release came shortly after the Washington Post reported that an SSA whistleblower said a former DOGE engineer put sensitive information from two agency databases — Numident and the Master Death File — on a thumb drive and planned to share that data with his private-sector employer. Democracy Forward, which represents several labor groups in a lawsuit against SSA over DOGE's “unprecedented data grab,” filed a notice of factual development Tuesday in response to the Post's reporting. The new court filing said the revelations in the article “are consistent with the substantial issues … of disclosures beyond SSA and the federal government as a whole and the ongoing risk of further disclosures of such uncontrolled data.” Peters' press release references the Post's story, but also highlights a January court filing from the Department of Justice that disclosed the use of an unapproved third-party server and communication between DOGE and an advocacy group seeking “evidence of voter fraud.” The Daily Scoop Podcast is available every Monday-Friday afternoon. With Artificial intelligence increasingly becoming a part of our lives, comes the need to regulate it. California was the first state to draft laws regulating the internet and now it's attempting to do the same with AI.SB 53 is the State's Transparency in Frontier Artificial Intelligence Act. It's a first-of-its-kind AI safety law and it was passed last year. A number of AI companies lobbied against the legislation. And internet freedom advocates argue the law is now so watered down, that it no longer effectively protects whistleblowers in the AI companies.Jason Winshell reports on Silicon Valley for the San Francisco Public Press. He spoke to KALW News Editor Sunni Khalid to help us unpack the new law.

Have you ever said something you instantly regretted? Reacted instead of responded? Ignored that quiet warning in your spirit? In this episode, we talk about the universal struggle of falling short — and the overwhelming mercy of God that meets us there. Drawing from Romans 3 and Romans 7, we’re reminded that even the apostle Paul wrestled with doing what he didn’t want to do. Sin is part of our fallen human condition — but shame and distance from God don’t have to be. This conversation is about repentance, reconciliation, and the loving Father who runs toward us when we turn back to Him. What We Discuss Why we instinctively choose wrong at times Paul’s transparent struggle with sin (Romans 7:14–16) The difference between conviction and condemnation Why guilt often pushes us away from God instead of toward Him The heart of the Father in repentance This episode is sponsored by Trinity Debt Management. Conner Bible Reading:“For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” - Romans 3:23 (NKJV) Have you ever said something you wished you could take back? Or decided to go against that still small voice warning you not to make a specific choice or take a particular action? If you are anything like me, your answer to these questions is a resounding, disappointed yes. Likely, after you spoke when you should have remained silent, or conducted yourself in a manner that failed to represent Kingdom qualities, your instantaneous response was regret. Why is it that we so often choose what we shouldn’t? Because “all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Sometimes, it isn’t even a conscious thought-out decision, but rather an instinctive reaction. We just automatically do or say without thinking. Even the apostle Paul, whom many of us esteem as a father in the faith, transparently shared his own struggle with sin when he said: “The trouble is with me, for I am all too human, a slave to sin. I don’t really understand myself, for I want to do what is right, but I don’t do it. Instead, I do what I hate” (Romans 7:14-16, NLT). It is so easy to beat ourselves up when we fall short, but as Paul shared, we are only human. This is not an excuse for us to sin, but rather an acknowledgement of our fallen state and God’s unfathomable mercy. The Lord knows we will fail again… and again… and again. He knew it from the very beginning when it was decided in the Garden that Christ would come and pay the penalty for our sins so that we might be reconciled to the Father. Our Heavenly Father is not asking us to be perfect or to achieve some unattainable standard of Christianity. Instead, He has made a way for us to remain connected to Him despite our sin through the blood of Jesus and the gift of repentance. When our children make poor choices, what is it that we want most from them? We desire repentance and reconciliation. True, there might be consequences for their actions, but our ultimate goal is to retain the relationship and remind them of our unfailing love for them. It is the same with the Lord. “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9, NIV). Even if we understand this to be true, somehow, when we know we have done wrong, we end up distancing ourselves from the Lord rather than drawing nearer to Him. Just like Adam and Eve in the Garden all of those years ago, we want to cover our shame. We want to hide from an all-seeing God. While logically we know this is impossible, we still somehow think, if we remain in the shadows, it will go unnoticed. However, the awareness of our own thoughts or deeds within our hearts can only be silenced for so long. Regret will eat away at our peace until we finally surrender it to the Lord. What will we find when we reach this point of surrender? A harsh judge ready to issue punishment? No, we will find our loving Father running towards us with open arms, just as we read in the parable of the prodigal son, ready to embrace us (mud, muck, and all). He will wash away all of our sin, put a fresh robe of righteousness upon our backs, and welcome us into communion with him. “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (1 John 1:9, ESV). Intersecting Faith & Life: Do you still feel the weight of guilt or remorse over a situation when you fell into sin? If so, ask yourself why you are still carrying this regret. Are you distancing yourself from the Lord because you feel unworthy? Or is there another reason you are still struggling with shame? I invite you to take a look at the scripture passages listed in the further reading section. In particular, I encourage you to read the Parable of the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32). May you find relief and reconciliation as you return to the Lord through repentance. He is there waiting for you with open arms. In this episode of Can Marketing Save the Planet, we are joined by Suzie Mills and Tim Brann, two of the co-founders of Oxygen Communications. We were keen to learn more about their research findings into the sustainability of UK purpose-led websites, which reveals a troubling disconnect between organisations' sustainability intent and their digital execution. Born during the first COVID lockdown, Oxygen Communications emerged from a desire to build an agency rooted in sustainability, accessibility, and inclusivity. Their recent research and report uncovered that many organisations, including B Corps, environmental charities, and sustainability consultancies are inadvertently contributing to the digital carbon problem. As Suzie explains, "The digital emissions sector is higher than the aviation industry, and yet the knowledge about the aviation industry is so huge.” The lack of understanding from a B-Corp perspective highlighted a gap in their current certification standards, although upcoming updates are set to change that. The research identified two primary barriers: a profound lack of awareness that websites even have a carbon footprint, and for those who are aware, it remains a low priority, consistently deprioritised against competing demands. Tim emphasised the opportunity that sustainable websites bring and how, “They aren't just good for the planet, they're good for business. They load quicker, are easier to access and navigate, there's a clear business case." Crucially, the team argues that small, low-cost changes like compressing images, removing auto-play videos, and choosing green hosting, can make a significant difference in emissions without requiring a full rebuild. A powerful example from their work, a simple audit for a hospice revealed that a tiny image of the Queen in the footer, present on every page, was a major emissions culprit. Reducing that single file size by 90% delivered a site-wide carbon saving. "Small things can make such a significant difference if you know where to look and what to do." Looking ahead, Suzie and Tim for would love genuine collaboration between marketing and web design teams, aligning success metrics around sustainability from the very start of any project, and embedding digital sustainability into organisation-wide strategy and policy. Tune in as we talk to Suzie and Tim about: Why even purpose-driven organisations have unsustainable websites. The two key barriers to action: lack of awareness and competing priorities, and how to overcome both. Practical, low-cost changes any Marketer can make today to reduce their website's carbon emissions. Why authentic storytelling means being transparent about both successes and areas for improvement. Grounding claims in measurable impact. The vital role of collaboration between marketing and web design teams to make sustainable digital practices the norm. In this message, Pastor Tom Kang unpacks the life of the Apostle Peter as part of our "Falling Short" series. Peter was known for his boldness, yet his desire for control often led to failure. Pastor Tom invites us to examine our own tendency to play the "I am" game with God—trying to force outcomes rather than trusting in His sovereignty.Join us as we explore how Jesus meets our failures not with condemnation, but with restoration, challenging us to put down our swords and rely on His grace.

If you're over 40 and feel like the old "eat less, move more" advice isn't working anymore, you're not alone. In this episode, I'm joined by Alicia Jones to talk about why most women are falling short on protein in midlife — and the simple, realistic shifts that can support muscle, metabolism, and steady energy without extreme dieting. If you're over 40 and feel like your energy, strength, or body composition has shifted — you're not imagining it. One of the biggest gaps I see in midlife women is protein intake. Most women are simply not getting enough, and in perimenopause and menopause that can quietly affect muscle, metabolism, cravings, inflammation, and how you feel day to day. In this episode of Living Life Naturally, I'm joined by fitness and weight loss strategist Alicia Jones, who helps women over 45 transform their health through realistic nutrition and training strategies. We talk about what changes during hormonal transition, why extreme calorie restriction can backfire, and how supporting lean muscle can make midlife health and weight goals feel more doable again. In This Episode, We Discuss: Why most women over 40 are falling short on protein (and why it matters more in midlife) How perimenopause and menopause can increase muscle loss risk Why protecting lean muscle supports metabolic rate and long-term quality of life Protein targets to aim for: 20–30 grams per meal (and daily guidance based on body weight/activity) Why drastic calorie cutting can make results harder in midlife Easy protein strategies that don't require a complete diet overhaul Smart swaps (like higher-protein yogurt options) and how to read labels Added sugars vs naturally occurring sugars (what to pay attention to) A simple "log one day of food" approach to identify hidden gaps (especially protein and fiber) Midlife fitness mindset shifts: quality over quantity, resistance training, and practical ways to add intensity into everyday movement Key Takeaway Midlife doesn't require harsher restriction — it requires smarter support. When protein and strength are prioritized, many women notice improvements in energy, satiety, strength, and body composition — without the burnout of constant dieting.
