On today's episode of Hear Me Out: all aren't welcome. Pride Month festivities have a complicated legacy. On the one hand, being out, proud and supportive in public has been a game-changing force for the LGBTQ+ community; on the other hand, pride began as a protest, and the movement has been, and is, at odds with the status quo and acceptability politics. So, should uniformed cops be welcome at Pride? Should politicians like Jill Biden be invited, or encouraged, to make Pride a campaign stop? Jessie Sage, a Pittsburgh-based columnist and sex worker, joins us to argue: no.  If you have thoughts you want to share, or an idea for a topic we should tackle, you can email the show: hearmeout@slate.com Podcast production by Maura Currie. It's time to have a conversation about privilege within our community. What does that mean to you? What does that mean? It's such a huge and hot topic within our industry that people either love or loathe talking about but after a brief tweet went viral, I'm here to start a discussion about it. I am joined by Jessie Sage of Peepshow Media who I've had on the show before (go check out Episode 71!) to help me tackle this behemoth of a topic. We do our best in addressing our own privileges – being white, being cis, being educated, the ability to hold a civ job, being in North America – as we try to untangle what privilege can mean to so many in our community. I was so wrong with when I said that face out could be seen as a privilege and was presented with varying situations where it was out of their control and not their choice. We speak about the challenges of varying dichotomies of being face in vs. face out, contact vs. non-contact work, virtual vs. in-person work, thin vs. fat bodies, white vs. POC, heterosexual vs. LGBTQIA2S+, regionality, experience vs. inexperience. We barely even scratched the surface. An hour just isn't long enough to fully dissect privilege but alteast we have gotten a conversation going. I am soooo excited to bring to you all this week, Jessie Sage of Peepshow Media! I have this thing of scrolling on Twitter when I wake up in the morning (because, you know, it's the last "safe" platform we have as sex workers) and I remember stumbling upon Jessie's page recently. I creeped all of her links and quickly found out that she is the co-host of The Peepshow Podcast, editor-in-chief of the Peepshow Magazine (which is a killer resource for sex workers) AND she founded Peepshow Media with her also sex working husband, Peej. I was delighted beyond words when she agreed to come on as a guest for my show. Hooray! Jessie and I got into chatting about a LOT of things: parenting as a sex worker, what role age may play in the type of sex work you do, NiteFlirt, our shared hatred for camming, creating content together with your partner, the gracious support from our community and writing about sex work in open society as an out sex worker. Jessie was able to share with me her recent dog piling of a situation when she was asked to write about sugar daddies for a well-known publication and opens up about how sex work is portrayed in the media. We also take note that there as just as many bad journalists out there reporting on our line of work and although you don't necessarily have to be "in" or participate in sex work to be a great reporter, it's vitally important that you understand and conduct adequate research on it to report responsibly. We speak about the anti-work that journalists of this stature do and how dangerous the repercussions can be. We also widely speak about her media company and the excellent work that she is doing by employing other sex worker writers in contributing to this space. twitter.com/sapiotextual www.jessiesage.com www.peepshowmagazine.com twitter.com/peepshowmedia @curvaceous_sage Don't forget to LIKE, RATE, SHARE, REVIEW, and SUBSCRIBE! @strippedbysia @siasteph www.stephsia.com

On today's show, we start off with two takes on labor and politics that in some ways come from very different places and in other ways come from very much the same place. On the Blue Collar Gospel Hour host Dan Denton and his fellow autoworker Trey Garcia react to the insurrection at the U.S. Capitol last month with frustration over the failure of both parties to speak to or for working people. And on Building Bridges Radio, Fair Fight Action founder Stacey Abrams – who's been nominated for this year's Nobel Peace Prize -- talks about how the American working class has consistently relied on people of color and women to push for improved status for workers but has been slow to include them in the movement's victories. Next up, Jessie Sage interviews sex worker, activist, writer, undocumented migrant, and DACA recipient Maya Morena on the Working People podcast, about the politics of the sex industry and the history of vice. On My Labor Radio, Indiana teacher Tim Barr discusses life in school for both teachers and students during a pandemic. As New York State faces a multibillion-dollar budget deficit, the Union Strong podcast explores how Adult-Use Cannabis offers an opportunity to building a new industry from the ground up in a way that will raise revenue, create good union jobs, and address social, racial, and economic equity. And, from the Black Work Talk podcast, we'll hear about the relationship between Black unionists, the Civil Rights and Black Power Movements, and the labor movement from longtime labor organizer and leader Bill Lucy, co-founder of the Coalition of Black Trade Unionists. Sarah then has a very un-merry Christmas with Hans Trapp, a Franco-German holiday legend who eats children. The first is a DailyBeast article written by Amy Zimmerman about the ways in which FOSTA/SESTA is putting sex workers at risk. We first talk to Burlesque performer Ruby Rockafella, who performed and modeled throughout her pregnancy.
