Welcome back to The Voice of the Duck Hunter podcast. I'm your host, Joel Brice. In today's episode, we're going to “read the tea leaves,” so to speak, by taking a biologist's approach to forecasting spring duck production—a key factor in the quality of hunting seasons—by analyzing breeding habitat conditions, current weather patterns, last year's breeding population, and more. We'll focus on the prairie pothole region, a key source of continental duck production, while also covering key contributors to the Atlantic and Pacific Flyways. It may seem too early to be breaking out our crystal balls, but mid-to-late March conditions go far toward setting the stage for early nesting in April, peak nesting in May, and late-season re-nesting in June. For a second consecutive podcast, I'm joined by two Delta colleagues…this time Mike Buxton and Jim Fisher. As you may recall from our last episode, Mike a key member of our duck  production team. In addition, he produces those exceptional breeding habitat conditions maps you see in the Delta Waterfowl magazine, online and in social media. He'll share insights on some of the intel that goes into producing these maps for us duck hunters, plus current wetland conditions he's tracking across Delta's Predator Management sites and beyond, and what they signal for duck production.Jim Fisher, Delta's VP of Canadian policy, is a leading voice for ducks, duck hunters, and the conservation of small, duck-producing wetlands. He will help us break down habitat conditions across Alberta, Saskatchewan, and Manitoba—key breeding grounds that can greatly impact duck numbers and hunting success across the continent. Ready to talk ducks? Let's get started!Host: Joel Brice, Chief Conservation OfficerGuest: Mike Buxton, Waterfowl Programs DirectorGuest: Jim Fisher, VP of Canadian PolicyDelta Waterfowl: https://deltawaterfowl.org Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DeltaFans/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/deltawaterfowl/Twitter: https://twitter.com/DeltaWaterfowl/

Most 80 year old men you find sitting comfortably in a recliner surrounded by their grandchildren telling stories of adventures long past.   Jim Fisher is not one of those 80 year old men.  Jim is still seeking adventures, still climbing mountains and still living his life to the fullest.   In 2021, 29029 Alumni Chuck Fisher invited his parents to climb with him in Snowbasin that year.  Jim and Mary Fisher were 78 almost 79 years old when they pressed that red registration button.   Jim was an instant celebrity on the mountain.  He was the source of a new kind of inspiration in our community.  Jim was almost 80 years old but Jim was climbing.  He didn't complain.  He didn't stop.  We all watched in awe as he chatted and smiled his way step after step up and down those slopes.  2021 Snowbasin was a challenge for many reasons for Jim and when he left without a red hat a new fire burned inside of him.  He had to come back.  He needed to find his Everest.   And oh did he come back…….. In June 2022 at the start of our 29029 event season, we invited Jim to speak to our community on a special zoom call.  Jim's message and motivation is just too good not to share with the world.  We hope you are as inspired as we are by Jim Fisher.  We hope his message resonates to help you keep climbing your own mountains and seeking out new summits whenever you can….regardless of the birthday you are celebrating this year!   LEARN MORE ABOUT 29029 HERE Follow & subscribe for more inspiring stories!

He is VERY well known in the 29029 community, not only for hiking 36 hours....yep 36 hours straight in Whistler, to finish 29029 and get his Red Hat. But also is an AMAZING storyteller. Oh and did I mention he's 81 years YOUNG!Ashley had the pleasure of meeting Jim in 2021 in Utah and quickly became enamored with his life and all the amazing adventures he's been on. They shared hours and hours together on the mountain in Utah as well as Whistler and Jim never once ran out of stories, or even hesitated to think of what he wanted to share next. This episode is filled with some very profound takeaways we at age can benefit from. Jim shares how he stays so up to date with all things, news, pop culture (he even drops a few OMGs) haha. Most of all Jim shares just how important it is to take care of your body so it can keep taking care of you. I hope you enjoy this episode and if you do please leave a review or rating and share it with a friend. In 2001 Jim began studying esoteric subjects and has sought personal experiences as a means of validating his understanding of the breadth of reality. What began as an interest in near-death experiences expanded to include other spiritually transformative subjects. Jim has attended four residential programs at The Monroe Institute (TMI), participated in numerous programs sponsored by the Rhine Center, spent 2 weeks at an ayahuasca retreat in Peru, and has engaged in multiple holotropic breathwork sessions. He currently serves on the finance and ethics committees for the International Association for Near-death Studies (IANDS). A 'chance' encounter with a prince from Togo, Africa has evolved into a joint effort to create a regenerative, organic farming operation in Togo. Jim had an opportunity to see how societal belief in voodoo could be used to benefit the health condition of an individual. After learning about a Consciousness Café meetup group in Charlotte, NC headed by Mark Brooks, Jim formed a similar meetup group in Greensboro, NC. As of this writing there are over 1,200 members of the two groups. Mark and Jim recognized the latent interest in the subjects they presented and decided to recruit a team of people with similar interests to create a website – www.consciousness-cafe.com. The group encourages others anywhere on their spiritual journey to visit the site and become members. Producers/Hosts: Jim Campbell and Amy Browne This series is made possible in part by a grant from the Maine Arts Commission Welcome to this edition of Maine: The Way Life Could Be, a series in which we look at challenges and opportunities facing Maine in the lifetimes of people alive today. The population of Maine has been the oldest and “whitest” in the state, but even before the real estate boom during the pandemic, some of state’s demographics were starting to shift. Today we look at the 2018-2028 demographics forecast for the state, with Maine’s State Economist, Amanda Rector, author of the report. We also talk with Jim Fisher, Deer Isle Town Manager and Hancock County planner, about how some of the trends play out in real life in our communities. Guests: Amanda Rector is the State Economist for Maine. In this capacity, she conducts ongoing analysis of Maine’s economic and demographic conditions to help inform policy decisions. Amanda is a member of the State of Maine's Revenue Forecasting Committee and serves as the Governor's liaison to the U. S. Census Bureau. She started working for the state in 2004 and has been State Economist since 2011. She earned a BA in Economics from Wellesley College and her Master’s in Public Policy and Management from the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine. Jim Fisher is the Town Manager for Deer Isle and former senior planner with the Hancock County Planning Commission. He earned a doctorate in urban regional planning from the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill, and was a Fulbright scholar. He also hosted “Common Health” here on WERU for several years. He has banged around non-commercial radio for decades and, in the little known facts department (that should probably stay that way), he was one of the readers voicing Richard Nixon's words when NPR broadcast the entire transcript of the Watergate tapes. Like several other current WERU volunteers, he was at the station's sign-on party on May 1, 1988 and has been a volunteer ever since doing an early stint as a Morning Maine host, and later producing WERU program series including Northern Lights, Conversations on Science and Society, Sound Portrait of the Artist, Selections from the Camden Conference, others that will probably come to him after this is is posted, and, of course, Notes from the Electronic Cottage. Amy Browne started out at WERU as a volunteer news & public affairs producer in 2000, co-hosting/co-producing RadioActive with Meredith DeFrancesco. She joined the team of Voices producers a few years later, and has been WERU's News & Public Affairs Manager since January, 2006. In addition to RadioActive, Voices, Maine Currents and Maine: The Way Life Could Be, Amy also produced and hosted the WERU News Report for several years. She has produced segments for national programs including Free Speech Radio News, This Way Out, Making Contact, Workers Independent News, Pacifica PeaceWatch, and Live Wire News, and has contributed to Democracy Now and the WBAI News Report. " Twenty-four years ago, Edward Gingerich became the first old-order Amish man in history to be convicted of criminal homicide. A year earlier he had crushed his wife's skull by repeatedly stomping her. He next scooped out Katie Gingerich's brain with his hands, then opened her up with a kitchen knife and ripped out all of her internal organs. This atrocious assault took place in the kitchen of the couple's farmhouse located in a remote section of Crawford County in Rockdale Township near Mill Village, Pennsylvania. Two of Edward's children, ages three and four, witnessed the brutal March 19, 1993 killing." - Jim FisherAnchor: https://anchor.fm/devil-we-know-podcastPatreon: https://www.patreon.com/DevilweknowpodcastTwitter: https://twitter.com/devilweknowpodFacebook:  https://www.facebook.com/devilweknowpodcast/Written and Researched by: Kait Morris - https://www.facebook.com/kaitmorrisrw/?ref=br_rsEditing and Production by: David Young - @david_theginger Promo: True Crime Finland - @tc_finland Please check out the book "Crimson Stain" by Jim Fisher https://www.amazon.com/Crimson-Stain-Jim-Fisher/dp/1489547444/ref=pd_sim_sbs_b_1--- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/devil-we-know-podcast/support
