After that, we'll dive into a review of Rambo: Last Blood, featuring one of cinema's most iconic Johns, and then lighten the mood with a look at the quirky animated series, John Dillermand.Top 5 Johns in Film and Television:John McClane in "Die Hard" series - Bruce Willis's portrayal of NYPD officer John McClane has become synonymous with action hero grit. His ability to blend humor with hardcore survival skills makes him a standout in the action genre.John Wick from the "John Wick" series - Keanu Reeves's character has redefined action cinema with its intricate choreography and a deep narrative about loss and revenge. John Wick is a hitman whose quest for vengeance turns into a beautifully orchestrated ballet of bullets.John Rambo in the "Rambo" series - Sylvester Stallone's John Rambo is a complex character battling personal demons and external enemies, making him one of the most enduring figures in action cinema.John Watson in "Sherlock Holmes" adaptations - Whether in films or television, Dr. John Watson is the ever-loyal companion to Sherlock Holmes, providing a necessary balance to the detective's eccentricities and bringing warmth and humanity to their adventures.John Luther in "Luther" (TV Series) - Idris Elba's portrayal of DCI John Luther brings intensity and depth to this psychological crime thriller, making him a compelling and flawed hero battling moral ambiguities. In Rambo: Last Blood, we see one of the final chapters in the saga of John Rambo. This instalment shows Rambo confronting his past and unearthing his ruthless combat skills to exact revenge in a final mission. The film attempts to provide closure to the character's journey, blending intense action sequences with a more personal story of vengeance and protection.John Dillermand Switching to a completely different tone, John Dillermand is an unconventional Danish animated series that follows the adventures of John, a man with an extraordinarily long, prehensile penis that leads to both humorous and problematic scenarios. The show is playful and absurd, sparking discussions about creativity and boundaries in children's programming.Today's episode is a celebration of the Johns of the screen—those who've made us cheer, laugh, and reflect on the complexities of heroism. Join us as we navigate through their legendary tales, discussing everything from high-octane action to the quirky twists of animated storytelling. Whether you're a fan of thrilling heroics or animated antics, there's plenty to appreciate in our lineup of memorable Johns.

In director Daniel Lusko's (JINGLE SMELLS) political thriller PERSECUTED, devout Christians feel threatened by a new law called the “Faith and Fairness Act”. This law attempts to make the religious landscape in America more “fair” in some vague way that we at Boys' Bible Study unfortunately were not able to understand despite all three of us watching the the movie separately and trying to pay attention to it. Nonetheless, the vibes are off in America and only one man, the famous TV pastor John Luther, seems to be able to wield the power and influence needed to prevent this law from passing. When John uses his platform to challenge the American government, they attempt to silence him by making it look like he killed a girl in a car crash. Now disgraced and on the run as a fugitive, can John salvage his reputation while also preventing the country from becoming more fair? PERSECUTED is very typical of Christian films made at the end of the Obama era, when Christians vented their frustrations about liberal hegemony by imagining themselves as righteous warriors struggling against a political conspiracy. Lately, when you hear the name Idris Elba, it often comes in the context of speculation about whether he'll be the next James Bond. The actor says it's not happening, and at the moment he's busy playing John Luther, a British crime-solving hero with a slightly harder edge than Bond's. The 50-year-old Elba worked as a young man at the same Ford manufacturing plant where his father worked before moving to America to chase an acting dream that now has far exceeded anything he ever imagined. In this week's Sunday Sitdown, Willie and Idris got together in New York. (Original broadcast date March 12, 2023.)

Why are people watching this?

This week, Justin, Ashley, and Dave watched Luther. Here's the Synopsis: “A serial killer terrorizes London while disgraced detective John Luther sits behind bars. Haunted by his failure to capture the cyber psychopath who now taunts him, Luther decides to break out of prison to finish the job by any means necessary.” Ashley hated the under-ice bodies. Dave had a lot of questions about the guy sitting in a helicopter in full scuba gear. Just got hung up on the unnecessary mannequins hanging from the ceiling. --- Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/whyarepeoplewatchingthis/support

Today's great quote comes from Art Coley of Alphagraphics. AlphaGraphics, Inc. plans, produces and manages visual communications for businesses at nearly 300 owner-operated, locally-based business centers worldwide. It is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah, in the AlphaGraphics network. Here is part of the transcript. I tell you, Marty, you said something earlier, I was saying earlier about that nearly ten years of restaurant ownership. There were months, and we were not a franchise; there were months Marty where I begged for somebody to send a royalty check to if somebody could bring me some turnkey marketing programs if somebody could bring me some training solutions that were already ready to go for the employees and how to hire them and who is the right person, how to recruit them. Suppose somebody could bring me a process for creating more traffic at my restaurant or an operational workflow and checklist. Marty, I believe, I believe, and I've had people, great people like Bud Hadfield, and I can go down the list of just the names of people in my cell phone that I can call anytime. I mean John Luther over at Duncan Brands and Jim Amos, who run OLED mailboxes, etc. You know all these names. I'm honored to be on your show today just knowing those guys. People like that are people that you've interviewed. And franchising, I believe, is the greatest invention for small business ownership. Because franchising doesn't change the fact that you are still a small business owner, all franchising should do; my job as president of Alpha Graphics, is to take people who have decided they want to be a small business owner and they want to do it in this arena of providing visual communication solutions, whether that's a document solution or marketing solution

¡Viernes!

Luther at 500: The Reformation for our Times with Richard R. John, Ph.D. Join Columbia University history professor Richard R. John for a three-part series of presentations on the life and legacy of one of the world’s most remarkable rebels, Martin Luther. Last October marked the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation that was ignited when Luther posted his now-famous 95 Theses on the door of the University Church in Wittenberg, Germany to contest what he considered false teaching of Roman Catholic tradition and practice. Professor John’s presentations will focus on Luther’s challenge to authority, his message, and his legacy. Each lecture will be illustrated by images of Luther’s world. Those wishing to learn more can refer to one of the two resources from which Professor John will draw: Lyndal Rober’s Martin Luther: Renegade and Prophet, and Andrew Pettegree’s Brand Luther. Richard R. John is professor of history and communications at Columbia University, where he teaches courses on American cultural history, the history of capitalism, and the history of communications. A graduate of Harvard University (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.) where he specialized in the history of American civilization, he has published extensively on topics related to American cultural history (including the separation of church and state), and is the author of two books on the history of American communication.

Its only rival is the massive The Falling, a psycho-sexual British drama about an all-girls school in the 60s which Sam tackles in an exhaustively detailed review of his own. We also offer an exclusive look at Idris Elba's unused soundtrack contribution for Fast & Furious 7, rejected by Universal for lack of relevance and constant references to John Luther. We discuss upcoming space films Star Trek: Beyond (recently given a title) and Star Wars: Rogue One (recently given a plot).
