The Prisoner 1967-1968 s1 e 7 -Dance Of The Dead
Long before it was a sugary moviefest, the Halloween we know was called Samhain. The Celts of ancient Ireland believed Samhain was a night when the barrier between worlds was thin, the dead could cross over, and if you didn't disguise yourself, evil fairies might spirit you away. Over time the holiday shape-shifted too, thanks to the Catholic Church, pagan groups, and even the brewing company Coors. From the Great Famine of Ireland to Elvira and the Simpsons, we present the many faces of Halloween.
About Dance of the Dead On a moon-lit night, Diké , heir to the Kingdom and leader of the terrifying warrior cult, the Ogwumii, falls asleep inside his bedroom. He wakes up to find himself trapped within the secret shrine of the village deity, a dark cave forbidden to all save the powerful witchdoctors. Overnight, the mighty warrior-prince becomes an Osu— an untouchable and outcast. In disgraced exile in the forbidden shrine, his sole companion is the raging ghost of a murdered slave girl, wrongly sacrificed to the gods on the false prophecy of a lecherous witchdoctor. To break the Osu curse, Diké must find the traitors who orchestrated his downfall and embark on a terrifying journey to the ancestors' realm, a deadly quest that could end his life or return him to full citizenship and glory. About the Author Nuzo Onoh is a Nigerian-British writer of Igbo descent. She is a pioneer of the African horror literary subgenre. For the Spooky Month, Cool Movies Darth has cleaned up and combined the two episodes dedicated to Gregg Bishop's 2008 zombie comedy, "Dance of the Dead". CM Darth and Mitchell Whitt from the "Morbidly Macabre" podcast were once coworkers at a place stereotyped for misfits, so a a Sam Raimi produced story about the undead versus the sci-fi club is right up their alley. Mitchell stands up for possibly misinterpreted Internet articles that claim this maybe one of the best (if not the best) zombie comedy of ALL TIME. If you have listened to HIM on "MM", take that with a grain of salt.
Halloween — the night of ghost stories and trick-or-treating — has religious origins that span over two thousand years. Over time, the Catholic Church, pagan groups, and even the brewing company Coors have played a role in shape-shifting the holiday. How did Halloween turn from a spiritual celebration to a multi-billion dollar industry? From the Great Famine of Ireland to the Simpsons, we present the many evolutions of Halloween.
It's a Little Horrors bonus episode! We are talking about this sort of B-Horror zombie flick, if you haven't seen it, definitely go give it a watch, it is highly entertaining! Screenwriter Cai Ross and Lecturer Chris Bainbridge continue to discuss the seventeen episodes of the prescient 1967 TV show, The Prisoner. This proves to be a polarising episode for Chris and Cai, with different opinions over meaning and quality. Sleeves will be rolled up, Hoyle's rule book observed, but hopefully they can find some common ground! As ever, your hosts will cast their critical eyes over the episode, with discussion on interpretation, trivia, humour and an exploration of the production process. "But I don't know how to shoot a machete." This week we're going to a dance with zombies! We discuss the 2008 indie horror film "Dance of the Dead". Let us know your thoughts on the film!
Mitchell Whitt from the "Morbidly Macabre" podcast and I conclude our conversation about 2008's "Dance of the Dead". We talk about its strong and beyond appropriate gore effects, how it stacks up against other zombie comedies like "Fido" and "Dead Snow", and how we have to get the theater business, at least on the Champaign/Urbana level, ready to blow the minds of those who will coming back to Ebert Fest. And I will say, it was a relevant weekend when it came to this podcast. Mitchell had just gotten married on Saturday (I am sure his registry on Amazon and Target have some items they could use that their guests did not claim.). Finding out about Mitchell's family living in Jacksonville lead to a New Jack story (Rest in Peace). And to further display my knowledge of low-budget zombie movies, I revisited "Last Rites of the Dead" a.k.a. "Zombies Anonymous".
Mitchell Whitt from the "Morbidly Macabre" podcast found that he was not alone when it came to the appreciation of "Dance of the Dead", a Ghost House Underground feature that was directed by Gregg Bishop ("The Other Side" and "V/H/S Viral") and written by Joe Ballarini ("A Babysitter's Guide to Monster Hunting"). Ghost House Pictures was founded by "Evil Dead" and "Spider-Man" director Sam Raimi and his producer Robert Tapert, so it was only natural to be drawn to a feature their money was behind with humor and ridiculous zombies to fight. This led to a conversation that explores both of our experiences in high school. We discuss the concepts of: how prom really affects teenagers, the importance of trauma to really force us to grow up, and how we both ended up at one point or another in blue shirts with yellow tags. "Dance of the Dead" features characters that reminds all white kids how great it is to be done with public education.
It's Carnival in The Village, and Dance of the Dead — an episode that was nearly scuttled on account of Patrick McGoohan's disdain for it (and refusal to shoot at least part of its climactic scene) — offers a fascinating glimpse into The Prisoner's conflicting aesthetic priorities. Marry Morris, our latest Number Two, is a memorable malefactor whom Glen admits he’d like to have as his mom. He also laments the undisciplined nature of her color-coded-or-not telephone system, and goads Chris into railing against the cosmic obliviousness of umbrella-users. You also get a great heel turn by Aubrey Morris, a haunting performance by Alan White as a doomed former colleague of The Prisoner, an oddly flat showing by Norma West as The Prisoner's observer, and some of the most indelible visual imagery of the entire series. "Dance of the Dead" UK Airing: November 17, 1967 US Airing: July 27, 1968 Normally, we include a brief synopsis of the episode to remind folks what it is we are talking about, but John and writer Jim Beard found themselves hard pressed to determine what exactly the plot was of this story. It appears that this is made up of several story threads that never really seem to come together in a satisfying way. Many argue that The Prisoner was weird for weird's sake and this episode could make a strong case for that. Got some fun zombie comedies for this episode . First is the low budget independent zombie Hide and Creep . The next one is what The Breakfast Club would look like if George Romero directed it . The last one is my favorite of the three , Dance of the Dead --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/joefarrer/support
Doot doot Mr. Skeltal. So the intro for this week is something about wading knee deep, clothed, into the water. It’s something that’s bothered us for ages, but what’s funny is that somehow we totally forgot that we had used it as an intro for this week. Because for Checkmate we were all but 10Continue reading →

Today, on the 3rd day of our 31 Films of Halloween journey, we are going to take a look at an under appreciated horror film, one that went completely under the radar...wait..."Scream"? Well, people have seen that. Looks like we are re-visiting a Halloween season favorite with "Scream". Tis the season for Pop Secret, and your favorite Ghost Faced villains. Andrew also watches what ended up being the only chapter of the "Masters of Horror" series that he didn't like, "Dance of the Dead". If there's only 1 bad episode out of 26, that is one hell of an average, so this is in no way an attempt to disparage the wonderful series.
The one where Green Blooded Bastard watches Dance Of The Dead (Masters of Horror S01 E03). I'm gonna watch all the mini films in this whole series and this is the 3rd episode!
We wrap up Prom/Graduation season on Pod Sematary with two bad horror movies - but only one of them is GOOD bad. First up is the Troma classic (?), Graduation Day, from 1981. It's a story with no protagonist but lots of potential villains. The murders only last 30 seconds but Gangster Rock goes for over 7 minutes! Then it's the wildly disappointing Dance of the Dead from 2008. It's a comedy zombie flick that isn't that funny and takes forever to get to the zombies. But are there any redeeming features? (Spoiler: there's a couple.) Get more at podsematary.com! The Tally Ho welcomes you to The Village as we continue our journey through classic TV series The Prisoner. In this episode we look at Dance of the Dead, the eighth episode of The Prisoner. Number 6 is invited to take part in the annual carnival, but is given his own suit to wear as a costume. When a dead body washes up on the beach with a pocket radio he attempts to communicate with the outside world. But Number 2 (Mary Morris) and her team of observers have other plans for the body, and for an old friend Number 6 finds in the village, the doomed Roland Walter Dutton. Join us as we discuss this remarkable episode which plays with the very notion of life and death, ripe with overtones of classical mythology and fairy tales. We are then joined once again by Prof Fiona Moore, an anthropologist at Royal Holloway University of London, and co-author of Fall Out: The Unofficial and Unauthorised Guide to The Prisoner. Richard and Gareth continue their rewatch of The Prisoner using the KTEH list of episodes our second episode is Dance of the Dead where Number Six gets invited to a ball and shows off a general dislike of women. This episode of the podcast as been crudely twixt in twain with an almost 30 minute (formally an hour) preamble bolted to the end to keep focus on the task at hand. It maybe chaff, but it's enjoyable chaff, it's Don Chaffey (director of Pete's Dragon OG) Please help out by sharing this podcast with your friends, unless you don't like us, then share us with your enemies... After a prolonged hiatus, we are back to our normal operating day. Pardon our dust, mind the gap, thank you for your patience, and all of that. Things that are discussed in this episode: First and foremost, we have the phenomenal actor Justin Welborn, showcasing a range from the comically absurd to white hot tension with serious gravitas. You may remember Welborn from recent turns in JUSTIFIED on FX, or in the genre films SIREN and V/H/S VIRAL (two films that share DNA with today's episode.) Before we entered into the ought-teens, the cinematic cultural landscape was rich with two different breeds of films. Teen comedies and Zombie films. While many have attempted to traverse the borders of the venn diagram to a shared space between "zombie," "teen film," and "good;" and there have been a lot of misfires where they were missing at least one of the three trifecta. However, DANCE OF THE DEAD (2008) managed to hit a bullseye and really stick the landing. A hilarious film that serves to both parody and honor films ranging from THE BREAKFAST CLUB to NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD. Justin Welborn and company are high school seniors dealing with a zombie outbreak on prom night. Following that, Justin Welborn takes on hordes of a different kind. While the Nighthawks use the term "zombie film" when discussing THE SIGNAL (2007), a general "horde" label is probably more apropos. A strange signal is sent out through all of electronic media, causing anyone who witnesses it to slowly and violently lose grip on reality. In the midst of the general confusion and chaos, a long simmering love-triangle boils over in the wake of the sanity-shattering signal. For the sixth episode of THE PALACE OF GLITTERING DELIGHTS, Andrew returns to The Village, to look at Patrick McGoohan's seminal 60's mind trip, THE PRISONER, only with a difference. Instead of looking at the series as a whole, Andrew only looks at the episodes McGoohan himself considers essential. These core 7 are - Arrival, Free For All, Dance of the Dead, Checkmate, The Chimes of Big Ben, Once Upon a Time and Fall Out. Is it a work of staggering genius or utter toss? Why don't you tune in and find out.Feedback for this show can be sent to: heykidscomics@virginmedia.com

Shock World Service 047 Dance of the Dead by Gareth Averill (Great Lakes Mystery) 31/10/2012 Dublin, Ireland 1. Suspiria - Intro (Suspiria OST) Kicking things off in style are the Italian devil-prog stalwarts, Goblin. This track, given much less attention than the much celebrated, 'Main Theme', features on the soundtrack to seminal Giallo classic, Suspiria, directed by Dario Argento, 1977. 2. Armando Sciascia - Circuito Chiuso (Impressions in Rhythm & Sound) Italians do it better. This is a psychedelic horror-funk lost treasure from Armando Sciascia, better known for his violin-driven orchestral scores. This track broods along, with dark tones and if you were to remove all but the evil electric piano, you would end up with something straight from a horror movie. This comes all the way from 1970. 3. Espers - Widow's Weed (Espers II) A cold, autumnal lament, with nods to dark English psych-folk from Philly band, Espers. Widow's weed takes you on a walk through a golden forest at dusk, searching for the seed that has grown the widow's weed. Things aren't quite all they seem to be. 4. Ennio Morricone - Magic & Ecstasy (The Exorcist II OST) Ennio Morricone is a man who just will not stop. When wading through his vast catalogue, you occasionally take an unexpected turn, and this track is no exception. This track makes you feel like the dark forces that want your soul, are first going to take you out and show you the night of your life. Morricone and horror films make the perfect match. 5. Popol Vuh - Mantra 1 (Nosferatu OST) A haunting track from Werner Herzog's take on the tale of Nosferatu. Klaus Kinksi is not the only terrifying aspect of this film, as the slow sitar-like instrument becomes the musical manifestation of the phantom der nacht. 6. Zombie Zombie - Driving This Road Until Death Sets You Free (A Land For Renegades) This French duo are clearly alumni from the college of Carpenter. Whilst I feel that their efforts have been off-the-mark, this hits the nail on the head. Furthermore, the video, (a G.I Joe-style take on Carpenter's, 'The Thing') is a joy to behold. The shrieking modular wails become the howling dogs from the movie. Brilliant. 7. Goblin - Patrick (Patrick OST) Goblin make a brief return here, with a short and sweet piece of music from Australian horror film, Patrick. Slowly oscillating cold synth stabs followed by a signature dark arpeggio makes this a classic Goblin number. 8. Mount Eerie - Over Dark Water (Clear Moon) Making the first of two appearances on this mix, this is a track from the man who just keeps on giving. Releasing two albums back to back this year, Mount Eerie creates a fascinating blend of brutally dark intricate folk songs, whilst drawing on black metal influences to create something equally beautiful and disturbing. My favorite release of the year. There is also a strong notion of the element of water in these albums. The end of this track ends with a simple line, 'To the ocean', followed by a cascading black metal almost blast beat explosion. Chills up the spine, every time. That water is very, very dark indeed. 9. Lubos Fiser - The Sermon (Valerie and Her Week of Wonders) A track from a recent gem by the good folks at Finders Keepers who dig so deep into those record crates, that you expect them to meet with the devil himself. Some of their resurrected discoveries sound like that could be the case. This track is a haunting minimal choral piece from Eastern European vampire flick, Valerie and Her Week of Wonders. Chilling stuff. Be sure to check out the many great releases on Finders Keepers for more musical gore and extravagance. SOUNDCLOUD WONT ALLOW ANY MORE CHARACTERS SO CAN'T FINISH DESCRIPTION.
