The Holy, Filthy (2 Corinthians 5:21) Jonty Rhodes, November 10, 2024 by Deer Creek Church
Greatness is built by leveraging your Strengths. So is the greatness of this episode's guest, the Legendary Jonty Rhodes. The length he dives on the field made Jonty Rhodes the fielding icon of Cricket. On the other, off the field is the depth of his life we dive into, the journey through the challenges, the fears he conquered, the growth he sought, the service he does, and the lessons he learned. Most importantly his principles of Health and Fitness make him the agile sportsman he is. And those he carried forward to other areas of his life make him much more than a sportsman. The episode is filled with mesmerizing conversations unwrapping the Jonty Rhodes you never knew. ___________________________________________ Links to the full podcast Youtube: https://youtu.be/HAT5xFvHUfo Spotify: https://tinyurl.com/kjhsmkhu Apple podcast: https://tinyurl.com/yc49pdyy ____________________________________ My name is Dilip and I'm the host. In this episode I got to sit down with my friend Matt Wicks and discuss what's known as Covenant Theology. Covenant theology is the idea that the whole biblical story is connected through different covenants that God has made with humans, and His ultimate covenant fulfillment through the person and work of Jesus Christ. The reference book for most of our discussion is "Covenants Made Simple" by Jonty Rhodes. If you enjoyed the episode be sure to leave a review! Follow on Instagram! @theoutlet_podcast
In the book, Rhodes emphasizes that the gospel isn't just about Christ's death: “All the events of Christ's life are part of his saving work: he was buried for us, he was circumcised for us, he was baptized for us. Each has something to teach us. The cross connects not just to every other event in Christ's life but to every aspect of his ministry.” Rhodes explores Christ's ministry through the lens of his threefold office as prophet, priest, and king, showing how the cross relates to all three. If fielding in cricket is science then he is the scientist. As a scientist, he showed a lot of his experiments on the field. And some of them were so successful that teams are in line to hire him as a fielding coach. I have talked about those experiments and how he set the new standards of fielding. Jonty was not just the good fielder, he was a great batsman as well. Listen to my stories around him and how I was introduced to him.
Ex-South African cricketer Jonty Rhodes is still regarded as one of the greatest fielders of all time, having played in 52 Tests and 245 One Day Internationals for his country. He also represented South Africa at hockey, including being picked in the 1992 Olympic squad. Since retirement, Jonty has coached professional cricket teams around the world. He has become an avid surfer and biker - joining local motorbike clubs for outrides on tours of particularly India, and on his tours around the professional cricket world. In this episode, Jonty speaks candidly about the gifts sport gave him, how he succeeded against some of the odds and of his life lessons along the way. He also shares insights into his close friendships with the late Hansie Cronje and Shane Warne. And lots more...
Jonty Rhodes the newly appointed assistant coach of Punjab Kings XI will be delighted to take on the responsibilities of decision making and being accountable for his team selections. He will share his experiences of what it is like living in Sweden and finally he will give his thoughts on diversity in cricket. As a South African what are his views on racism in cricket.
In this episode, Tyler talks with Jonty Rhodes about his recent book, “Man of Sorrows, King of Glory.”
Jonty Rhodes is widely regarded as the best in cricket when it comes to fielding. In this episode, RJ Roshan takes a trip down memory lane to the 1992 World Cup match between South Africa and Pakistan, where Jonty Rhodes took Inzamam-ul-Haq's wicket in style. Tune in to know why he is considered as the superman of cricket.
We caught up with Jonty Rhodes in Pakistan, ahead of his departure to Stockholm to coach the Swedish national cricket team. We talked about how he nearly represented South Africa at hockey in the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, being too small and fragile for football and how Pele became his sporting hero. Of course, 1992 was far more memorable for his "Superman" run out of Inzamam, and the photo that sealed his place in cricket's hall of fame. Jonty spoke about the effect of apartheid on the game in South Africa and how even now, more needs to be done at Cricket South Africa.
Jesus died to pay for our sins. We should all be familiar with this aspect of the work of Christ. But what if there is more depth, greater riches and beauty to the work of Christ? Jonty Rhodes presents just a taste of these deeper riches in his book Man of Sorrows, King of Glory. In this episode we explore the kingly and prophetic work of Christ with Jonty.
Christians, rightly called “people of the cross,” look to Jesus's death and resurrection as the central points of his earthly mission. But in order to understand more fully the person and work of Christ, it's important for believers to fix their minds on his entire ministry—his life, death, resurrection, and ongoing ministry today—and not solely on his work on the cross. In Man of Sorrows, King of Glory, Jonty Rhodes uses the traditional roles of Jesus as prophet, priest, and king (often referred to as his “threefold office”) to show how his whole life—in humiliation on earth and now exaltation in glory—is lived for us. As believers explore Jesus's life, death, resurrection, and ascension, they will develop a holistic portrait of the Messiah and a deeper appreciation for God's plan to reclaim sinners. Our guest today is Jonty Rhodes. who is the head pastor of Christ Church, a congregation of the International Presbyterian Church in Leeds, England. Jonty has spent the last ten years planting churches in the UK and is the author of the newly released Man of Sorrows, King of Glory. This is really our favorite kind of book, which takes a foundational but perhaps neglected aspect of our Reformed faith and applies it to our lives today in a way that is fresh, devotional, and understandable. Nancy Guthrie says this about it, “Man of Sorrows, King of Glory is rich without being dense, theological without being stuffy, and corrective without being combative.” Right now, you can pick up a copy on our website –wtsbooks.com–for half price until July 8th.

Jonty Rhodes, legendary cricketer and cricket commentator
SAfm — Proteas legend Jonty Rhodes was on SAfm Sport On talking about transformation in South African cricket. He says that he was a beneficiary of white privilege because he never competed against players of colour when he was first picked for the national team.
Jonty Rhodes, commonly regarded as one of the greatest fielders of all time, popularized fielding in a sport dominated by batting and bowling. His love for India is no secret, given that he has named his daughter, India. Jonty is almost 50 but whenever he hits the meadows, he looks like a 20-year old. I ran into him on multiple occasions and each time his enthusiasm, energy and humility amazed me. We had a fun chat where he shared about how he grew up playing sports, his journey to becoming a cricketer, what he thinks of running and the importance of practice. This conversation was recorded at the race venue and so you will hear a lot of background noise… It might help to consider it as a purposefully crafted background score for your special listening. ;-) Follow Jonty: Instagram Twitter Follow Vinee: LinkedIn Facebook Instagram Listen & Subscribe: iTunes Castbox Google Podcasts Overcast Stitcher TuneIn Radio Music by: Harsh Davda Music Copyrights owned by: Vinee Ajmera

Tangents include: The grievances of Monty Noble. The A.I.F. lifting the standard of fielding to a new level. Cricket meets baseball: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cgx1QPaYpCI The biggest crowds at sporting matches. And because this is a White Line Wireless production, we spend a little bit of time fanboying over Glenn Maxwell (and Jonty Rhodes).Corrections: The ‘hot shit’ baseballer is Francisco Lindor. There are reports of George Bonnor hitting the clock at Lord’s: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article213614058 but credit has to go to Albert Trott for being the famous Lord’s ‘clock smasher’ http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article128692122 The 286 runs off one ball is probably a myth, but given there are 1894 sources for it, I’m happy to allow it as part of cricketing history: http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article121617536 It was a São Paolo v Corinthians, but Corinthians is from São Paolo, not Rio.
We continued with our build up to the 2019 Cricket World Cup and we spoke to Proteas legend Jonty Rhodes. He talked to us about what he's has been up to and also reflected on his sterling playing career.
In the latest 81allout podcast we rewind to one of the mostly fondly remembered World Cups – from 1992. Why is this such a beloved tournament? Has there been a better collection of cricket jerseys at one event? We talk about Mark Greatbatch's sixes, Martin Crowe's innovative tactics, Srikkanth's duck against New Zealand, Raju's premature celebration, David Boon's square cuts, that Jonty Rhodes run-out, Srinath's ball to Miandad... Not to forget, the strange rain-rule. And those two balls from heaven. Participants: Siddhartha Vaidyanathan (@sidvee), Mahesh Sethuraman (@cornerd) Max (@maxdavinci) Anantha (@anantha)

In the FFF (final full five), Earful is cut short by ten minutes due to baseball, but the Convoy crew perseveres with their unique style of controlled individualism―through asking the tough questions ("Why does Dirty Lyle Laugh?" "How did Duck grow a beard?"), and substantial research into Jonty Rhodes. For the second-to-last-time, we wish you a thumbs-up goodbye. (This episode brought to you by our new sponsor, vipfaq.)
Let's Talk Possibility with Telana Simpson | Exploring what's possible
When we hear of a sports hero who has broken a record, or our favourite team wins a world cup event, we get so excited. There is something about a person being able to perform at such a high level, that amazes us! With Telana is Tim Goodenough, a Meta-Coach who specializes in working with Elite Athletes and sports teams, and who wrote the book 'In the Zone with South Africas Sports Heros' with co-author Michael Cooper. And Jody Martins, who’s also a Meta- Coach and who has been coaching cricket for over a decade. Tim interviewed 17 of South Africa’s top athletes and analysed their mental skills, looking for what supported them to achieve such high levels of performance. Who were some of those athletes? (Graeme Smith, Jonty Rhodes, Penny Heyns, Nass Botha) What makes one athlete great and another merely good? How can athletes perform at the top of their game and do so consistently? Is it really all in the mind? And how can these principles be applied in business and life in general? [This is a rebroadcast of the episode 14 from November 2011] For more info see: http://talkpossibility.innercoaching.co.za/how-studying-sport-can-teach-us-about-life/
