Unleash the untold tales of labour and legacy in this fiery episode of History Rage, as we journey into the heart of medieval womanhood with the formidable scholar and podcast co-host, Eleanor Janega. With her razor-sharp wit and boundless knowledge, Eleanor dismantles the myth of the idle medieval woman, confined to motherhood and marriage, and reveals a world where women wielded influence, managed businesses, and toiled alongside men.The Rage Against Misconceptions:- Eleanor exposes the historical fallacy that medieval women were mere bystanders in a world of men, highlighting their active participation in farming, trade, and even politics.- The episode shatters the image of the medieval woman as a silent figure, revealing her as a savvy entrepreneur, a skilled artisan, and a fierce negotiator in guilds and markets.Women's Work and Worth:- Dive into the diverse roles women played, from the fields to the frontlines of commerce, challenging the notion that their contributions were limited to domestic spheres.- Eleanor passionately argues for the recognition of women's work throughout history, emphasizing their economic and social agency in medieval society. The Historical Hierarchy:- The discussion navigates the complex social strata of the time, where a woman's class often dictated her opportunities and freedoms.- From the peasant to the noblewoman, explore how societal expectations and personal ambitions shaped the lives of medieval women.Preserving Their Stories:- Eleanor urges us to honour the legacies of these women, advocating for a more nuanced understanding of their roles and the erasure of the gendered biases that have long clouded our view of the past.Join us as Eleanor Janega ignites a historical revolution, championing the untold stories of medieval women and challenging the stereotypes that have confined them to the margins. Alpha Blokes' first Double Champ and Yarn of the Year Winner, Matt "Uncle Jacko" Jackson joins us for an absolute ripper of a yarn. Making the trip from Gulgong, Jacko takes us through starting to work towards going full time with his timber business, JAM timber Co. before informing us of why he's scared of planes: by watching a crop-duster crash into a Ferris wheel. Being from the Mudgee area, the boys dabble in a bit of wine chat, including Jacko's stint as a bartender at one of the local wineries. Uncle bought the boys some brand new Akubras, so they run through the legend that made them and the process of keeping them fully Australian made. To wind down the yarn, Jacko takes us through his two near death experiences, the heartwarming story of the birth of his Daughter and how he copped the illustrious Hello Sport Baggy Green before wrapping up with the guest questions. Was great to finally get this mad unit on for a chat after hearing him pepper our ears with yarns of the highest quality for so long. All had remarkable stories to tell. By the time he graduated college, he was living aboard his own tiny sailboat. Soon after graduation, he set sail for the Bahamas with a locker full of food and dreams … and $40 in his pocket. His voyages took him up and down the Bahamas, up the east coast of the US to Chesapeake Bay, and across the Atlantic to Gibraltar. He ran aground, dealt with mechanical breakdowns, got seasick more than once, slept in a volcano, survived powerful storms, and returned to the land of clocks and calendars with what he'd gone in search of—stories of his own. Today, as a speaker, trainer, and coach, he helps remarkable people tell remarkable stories—through writing, speaking, graphic design, video, technology, and music. If you want to say it, share it, or sell it, bring Dave Bricker your story; he'll help you tell it. To learn more about Breakthrough Academy, click here: https://trybta.com/PCEP120 Breakthrough Academy's annual “Turnaround of the Year” award is given to the entrepreneur who has achieved extraordinary growth despite facing great adversity. That's a fancy way of saying it goes to the man or woman who's been through some seriously heavy stuff and come out the other side. This year's winner was Stephen Osborne of The Osborne Company. And 2021 was not kind to Stephen. His father, David, the founder of the company, passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly. Infighting amongst siblings ensued, everyone wanting their cut. Adding insult to injury, a group of non-construction consultants hired by family members, unbeknownst to him, forced him to step down as president. As grief and conflict ripped through the family, the business suffered too: their Net Profit dropped down to 1.7%, and the business was hanging on by a thread. Fast forward two years, and the Osborne company is on trend to do north of 15MM, with a super healthy 15% net. The team is the happiest and most functional it's ever been, and they've become of the largest EV charging station installers in the US. The conversation that follows is about HOW Stephen got through the darkest time in his life, steered his father's company and legacy away from financial ruin, and won the Turnaround Of The Year Award.
