No likes, no follows, no echo chambers... Could you imagine? What if social media didn't have this toxic, addicting quality to it? What if you saw what everybody else saw and the spread of misinformation and polarization suddenly came to a halt? What if everybody had to verify their sources and we would use social media for the purpose of educating, building social impact movements, signing petitions and mobilizing online to take our action offline? That would be... A social network, REIMAGINED I am excited to be joined by Karl Brown, co-founder of the social impact platform CURV. Karl tells us the story about how CURV was born and how it is meant to radically change the way we use and are affected by social media platforms. He shares the ins and outs of CURV and introduces us to a new form of social media that can aid in making us more productive change makers online. I was lucky to be one of the first 100 to be part in testing CURV and now is YOUR chance. Visit CURV to become part of this incredible community

In this episode of the Build Hatch Podcast, we had the opportunity to hear from Karl Brown from Archclad. In this episode we talk about: Archclad is a specialist cladding company who is focused on producing safe cladding. Karl was born and bred in South Africa and describes his childhood as tough but fair as he had to be resourceful. Following his two years in the Navy national service, Karl joined a steel factory where he learnt every aspect of steel – from steelmaking to marketing and says it was a great start to his career. One of the first steel jobs Karl completed was working out coils for flat sheets which were to be used in car manufacturing. As the country of South Africa was in turmoil, Karl moved his family to Australia 21 years ago and was able to continue his work in the steel industry. The systems and process' involved in designing cladding. How the challenges of the past motivated Karl to create a better life here in Australia and the opportunities he sees all around him. The beginnings of Archclad. The structural differences and applications between Zinc, Alloy, Steel, Colourbond and Aluminium. On the wall of Karl's workshop there is a quote by Henry Ford – ‘Quality means doing everything right when no-one else is looking.' Archclad's involvement in the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) and some of the challenges that were involved in this project. Karl was able to bring to Australia the supply of up to 150m length sheets of cladding. The advantage of longer sheets of cladding in both waterproofing and pest control. Bringing a unique product to the marketplace can come with reservations from industry competitors. To be successful Karl says ‘you need to recognise the need and then work out a way to satisfy that need.' Karl's approach to self-doubt is to say ‘I can' instead of ‘I can't'. Outside of work, Karl is a family man and shares the positive impact of Covid on his family life. Managing ourselves as well as the people who work with us. The future for Archclad. Visual texture and the shadow cast of cladding. Karl explains oil canning and visual distortion. We get a rundown on the manufacturing and instillation process. Karl's tips for planning a cladding job for trades. The safety protocols and testing involved in the production of all Archclad products. Sit back and enjoy this helpful interview with Karl Brown from Archclad. Links: Archclad Follow @archclad on Instagram Build Hatch Follow @buildhatch on Instagram
Karl Brown is back with another powerful episode of the Prepper Broadcasting Network. He is talking THE GREAT RESET so don't miss his thoughtful take on this big issue.
The big question that is one everyone's mind!
Karl Brown spent 8 years at the Rockefeller Foundation, investing across multiple domains, including pandemic response, digital health, health systems, and youth unemployment, before he joined ThoughtWorks as the Director of Technology for the Office of Social Change Initiatives. In this episode, Karl shares his experiences working in the donor community, from his unexpected entry into the field, to strengthening pandemic response in the Mekong basin, and even building open source communities with OpenMRS. Along the way, we learn about the heavy responsibility that grant officers bear, how the Rockefeller Foundation thinks about catalytic funding, the value of honesty from grantees, and how donors can sometimes act like “herd animals”. If you’re interested in hearing a first-hand account of the work and decisions made by one grant officer in digital health, you’ll enjoy Karl’s reflections on his time at Rockefeller.

Kevin and the Mayor of Chickentown have just returned from CONvergence, a wonderful science fiction/fantasy convention in Minneapolis, Minnesota. So we're reviewing our whole crazy Fourth of July weekend in the upper midwest, including: Kevin's panels on Aquaman, Riverdale, and DC comic books, TV shows, and movies; the Mayor's panels on She-Ra, Doctor Who, The Magicians, and choosing your own adventure; CONvergence guest of honor, writer, and internet sensation Chuck Tingle; concerts from The Doubleclicks, Beth Kinderman and the Player Characters, Karl Brown, The Dregs, and The Gernsback Continuum; comedy and role-playing games with Joseph Scrimshaw; the amazing Nerdlesque dancers; The University of Minnesota Raptor Center's giant birds; lots of amazing cosplay (including Admiral Pepper's Lonely Death Star Band, a chicken group, and our own Mayor's Eleven/Eleven costume); field trips away from the convention for cider, Chinese food, the Mary Tyler Moore statue, and of course, the giant blue chicken; and yeah, even more. 'Twas a festive convention in a terrific new location, and we threw our new Flopcast badge ribbons at everyone we met. Also: We're celebrating the birthday of America's gremlin-loving sweetheart, Phoebe Cates. Slip into a red bikini, or not, and join us.
In 2007 I gave a sermon for SMUUF, “Caring About Truth,” that countered the notion that people in power had the right to decide what the facts are, such as the existence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq We are now dealing with a President, Political Party, and fanbase that seem to care little about whether a statement is true or false and more about whether it is effective. Spinoza believed that most people cannot help but love truth. What does it mean, concretely and as a practical matter, to care about truth itself as distinct from merely the acquisition and exploitation of specific truths? How shall we deal with the sheer frequency of lying that is breaking news everyday? Rev. Karl Brown is a retired ordained United Methodist Minister. Most of his career was spent in ecumenical campus ministry, especially at Texas State University. Among the highlights of his career are: teaching university courses in religion; developing programs for faculty and students; working in missions to Mexico, Russia, and Vietnam; serving three terms on San Marcos City Council; speaking or teaching in a variety of settings such as at UT Austin, Protestant and Unitarian Churches, St. Mark's School of Wisdom, student retreats, clergy seminars, and Social Work classes. Formal education: B.S. in Chemistry (UT Austin); M.Th. (Perkins School of Theology - SMU); post-graduate studies at the University of Edinburgh, Scotland. His family includes his wife, Dr. Karen Brown, four children, three in-laws, and four granddaughters.
Despite a delightful series of weather-related delays and flight cancellations, Kornflake has returned from Minnesota with a full report on MarsCon! It's one of our very favorite conventions, thanks to its Dementia Track of comedy music concerts, under the direction of our pal the great Luke Ski. Performers this year included Luke, Donita Smith, Marc with a C, StarF and Mattari 2600, brentalfloss, Power Salad, Devo Spice, Insane Ian, TV's Kyle and Lindzilla, the Library Bards, the Faithful Sidekicks, Beth Kinderman, Karl Brown, and Carrie Dahlby! Plus: Dementia Smackdown Wrestling, Geek Bellydancing, Boob Tree (it's a game), Use Your Words (also a game), and of course... Kornflake's Dementia Water Aerobics! Hop in the pool, kids; we like to leave our fellow geeks soaking wet and exhausted.
We're back from Minnesota with a full report on CONvergence, an annual gathering of awesome crazy people who are really into convention badge ribbons. (We may have given out more Flopcast ribbons this year than ever before! It's the boldest fashion accessory of the season.) Our report features: Convention panels (on podcasting, Flash Gordon, Jack Kirby, Legends of Tomorrow, and the Star Wars Holiday Special), performances (from Beth Kinderman and the Player Characters, Karl Brown, Joseph Scrimshaw, and the Nerdlesque dancers), birds and snakes (from the Raptor Center and the Herpetological Society), life on Mars (hello, Robolar), an amazing Bea Arthur costume, and a field trip to the Minneapolis Sculpture Garden to visit a giant blue chicken. Meanwhile, Kornflake survived a dark and stormy night at Fenway Park, where she partied like it's 1991 with Paula Abdul, Boyz II Men, and her beloved New Kids on the Block. Also: We reach the halfway point in our High Feather series review with episode 5, featuring more summer camp ceramic mug-making action than you can possibly handle. And it's World Emoji Day. But instead of sending little smiley faces to your stupid friends, just send a turxt.
Recent research indicates that differences in our society on issues such as global warming, defense spending, immigration, and gay rights is, to some extent, deeply rooted in neurobiological differences, particularly in regard to the prefrontal cortex and the amygdala. If the brains of liberals and conservatives tend to function differently, is there a path toward reconciliation? What are some of the ways pointing towarda more perfect union? Are there ancient mythologies of war and peace that illustrate our genetic variation and offer hope for humanity?
