Members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints work in nearly every profession imaginable. Some, including the two guests on this episode of the Church News podcast are professional athletes. But Kaden Bowler and Bronson Balholm play in a unique league with equally unique rules in a spinoff of America’s pastime — Banana Ball. Bowler grew up largely in northern Utah’s Cache Valley where he played high school baseball before serving a mission on the other side of the world in Cambodia. Balholm is from Southern California. He played baseball in college, including time at Arizona State University. For Bowler, moving from the “darkest, loneliest time” of his life, to now being “super grateful for where I am,” was not an easy or predictable process. Balholm likewise had an unpredictable path that led to the two players meeting in Savannah, Georgia, where they attended the same young single adult branch. “There are going to be ups and downs,” Balholm said. “But the Lord’s always going to be there. You always gotta keep coming up to the next at-bat.” On this episode of the Church News podcast, Bowler and Balholm join Church News editor Jon Ryan Jensen to describe how playing baseball, serving a mission and studying the scriptures has helped them develop faith in Jesus Christ.

Bigfoot Caves Are A Bad Place to Set Up CampIn the mid-1990s, a Utah State University student, an outdoor enthusiast, discovered a hidden cave in Cache Valley's mountains while hiking. Skeptical of Sasquatch stories despite extensive wilderness experience, he found an artificially excavated chamber behind a boulder, containing signs of past use. After a rattlesnake encounter and a hailstorm, he returned to find the cave sealed by another boulder. Feeling watched, he spotted large footprints and encountered a tall, hairy, humanoid figure who silently gestured for him to leave. Unlike typical Bigfoot descriptions, this intelligent being lacked glowing eyes or a foul smell. The experience made him a believer, though he's unsure if he'll return to the cave.Join my Supporters Club for $4.99 per month for exclusive stories:https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/what-if-it-s-true-podcast--5445587/support
Eric Frandsen and Jason Walker talk the latest in local Cache Valley sports. They go more in depth in a preview of Utah State football's Week 1 opponent, UTEP. Hear more audio from Bronco Mendenhall's press conference earlier this week along with comments made by Miners head coach Scotty Walden. Eric and Jason go over the biggest threats UTEP will bring on offense and defense and how much of a challenge they will be to the Aggies. A consistent theme is how tricky it is for both teams to figure each other out so they can prepare for the other.
Jason Walker and Eric Frandsen talk the latest in local Cache Valley sports on 106.9 FM / 1390 AM The FAN, starting with an interview with Utah State men's basketball associate head coach Eric Haut. The next player on the Top 25 Aggies of 2025 is revealed -- linebacker John Miller. The College Football Playoff committee is adjusting their criteria for their rankings, placing a higher emphasis on strength of schedule. The Athletic is ranking NBA teams' off-seasons, where do the Utah Jazz rank among the 30 NBA squads? There is more expansion coming to the Pac-12! But it's just in baseball...(though it's still a good addition).
Jason Walker and Ajay Salvesen talk the latest in local Cache Valley sports, starting with the continuation of the preseason opponent preview series for Utah State football. Today's preview features Vanderbilt. Jeff Fuller did an analysis of the last 50 years of preseason AP Top 25 polls and figured out who were the most overrated and underrated teams based on how teams finished the season. Find out which teams those are. The NBA Cup groups were announced and Jason and Ajay were so thrilled the mentioned it for a second and then immediately moved on to talk about fixing the NBA All-Star Game
Jason Walker and Ajay Salvesen talk the latest in local Cache Valley sports, starting with an interview with Utah State men's basketball forward Karson Templin. Utah State volleyball was picked to finish first in the Mountain West and USU soccer begins Thursday (though Jason and Ajay mixed that up and thought it started Wednesday). With USU volleyball and soccer being picked first in their respective preseason polls, it begs the question as to how many championships the Aggies could win across all sports this season. Injury reports are coming to the Big 12 (and are now part of all power conferences in football and men's basketball), could the Pac-12 adopt them in the future?
