We're back to break down the remaining drama from college football's opening weekend, as Miami delivered when the stakes were highest, knocking off Notre Dame 27-24 in a game that felt like a must-win for Mario Cristobal. In this college football podcast episode, we dive deep into how the Hurricanes won the line of scrimmage and why Notre Dame's offensive game plan was so confusing. Also, a recap of South Carolina's slugfest with Virginia Tech, the return of "Beamer Ball" as a winning strategy for Shane Beamer, the frustration of watching Kyron Drones, and new steam on the "LaNorris The Creator" movement in popular media. Plus, a look back at our leftover observations from Week 1, a twin pack of early bird specials looking ahead to the CyHawk rivalry and Michigan's big road trip to Oklahoma, and a lookahead at a meaty Week 2 slate of games. South Carolina and Virginia Tech travel to Atlanta for the “Beamer Bowl” in the season opener for both teams. Brian Edwards, Jay Greeson and Chris Lee preview the game. Topics include: South Carolina quarterback LaNorris Sellers is primed for a huge year. The Gamecocks got running back Rashul Faison eligible on game week. The Utah State transfer should have a massive impact on the Carolina running game. Wide receiver Nyck Harbor is an x-factor for South Carolina's offense. Virginia Tech coach Brent Pry begins the season on the hot seat, in no small part due to his inability to win out-of-conference games against Power 4 teams and also, a dismal record in one-score contests. The Hokies should get better play out of talented quarterback Kyron Drones. Virginia Tech re-built much of its team (including the starting offensive line) through the portal--will that be enough? Brent Pry and Co. made some tough decisions and decided to move on from DC Chris Marve, OL Coach Ron Crook, and S&C Coach Dwight Galt IV. The losses to the transfer portal and eligibility have run deep and so far the Hokies have done little to stop the bleeding. Retaining both Pop Watson and Kyron Drones was a good start but is it time to panic about the state of this roster and coaching staff? As always we make our Big Screeners picks, CFP First Round edition.

Virginia Tech vs. Vanderbilt College Football Pick Prediction 8/31/2024 by Tony T. Virginia Tech at Vanderbilt—Virginia Tech finished at 7-6 last year for head coach Brent Fry who is in his third season. An experienced team that returns 11 on offense with 10 to the defense. The Hokies put up 29.5 points per game but struggled to convert third down. They had a good running attack but suffered from inaccurate quarterback play. Still the offensive performance was a huge improvement over the previous season. The defense held opponents to 24 points per game with their strength in defending the pass. The pass rush returned last year with massive improvement. Kyron Drones is in his senior season. He completed 58.2% of his throws last year and rushed for 818 yards and five touchdown. Vanderbilt went 2-10 in 2023. Clark Lea is in his fourth season with the program that has six starters back on offense with eight on defense. Playing the rigors of an SEC schedule saw below average performance in offensive and defensive performance. Quarterback Diego Pavia transfers from New Mexico St after elevating that program last season. He completed 60.4% of his passes for 1973 yards with 8.1 yards per rush. He ran for 925 yards averaging 5.3 yards per carry.

It's a Dear Andy show. Andy answers your questions, but first… (0:00-4:33) Introduction (4:34-23:39) Nico Iamaleava speaks at Tennessee (23:40-29:06) "We're in LA!" - DeShaun Foster (29:07-33:48) Former Head Coaches joining TCU's Staff (33:49-38:58) Transfer QBs making a Jump in Year 2, Kyron Drones (38:59-41:32) Shedeur Sanders at Colorado (41:33-44:57) Haynes King at Georgia Tech (44:58-46:50) Graham Mertz at Florida (46:51-48:25) Payton Thorne at Auburn (48:26-49:52) Alan Bowman at Oklahoma State (49:53-51:22) Cade McNamara at Iowa (51:23-55:30) Kalen DeBoer still at Alabama if Washington won Championship? (55:31-1:00:28) The Effect of 105 Scholarships (1:00:29-1:03:03) Iowa Averaging... 24 points a game? (1:03:04-1:12:19) The Future of the ACC (1:12:20-1:14:27) CFP Scenarios (1:14:28-1:15:17) Conclusion - have more questions? Send them to andystapleson3@gmail.com Tennessee quarterback Nico Iamaleava spoke ahead of camp opening, and Andy breaks down the utterances of a QB that has been generating buzz since before he committed. Now, Nico is QB1 and headed into his first season as a starter. UCLA coach DeShaun Foster froze during his opening statement at Big Ten media days, and he's now turned the best line of that opening statement into a T-shirt that doubles as a recruiting tool. TCU has added two former head coaches to its staff. Now it's time for Dear Andy, and you have some great questions. What second-year transfer quarterback might make a Joe Burrow-Jayden Daniels leap? What would Kalen DeBoer have done if Washington had won the national title? What happens if Iowa's offense is… average to above-average? Join Jared Palmgren and his guest Chris Kay (@Realestchriskay) in Episode 161 of CFF Analysis as they dive into the early average draft position (ADP) analysis for CFF 2024. They discuss ADP trends developed from CFF mock drafts and best balls during the first two months of the off-season, highlighting players they believe are either undervalued or overvalued in drafts.[0:07:22] - The two discuss overall trends noticed in drafts, including the gap between the elite QB options and navigating heavy RB and WR starts.[0:17:51] - Cameron Ward, transfer quarterback to Miami, FL, is discussed as going too high. They debate whether the Hurricanes provide the necessary circumstances for Ward to continue his CFF relevance and earn back his QB18 ADP. [0:24:30] - They think Noah Fifita, quarterback out of Arizona, is going too high due to his lack of rushing production and current top 10 QB status in ADP. [0:29:02] - Donovan Edwards, current ADP RB14, is discussed regarding his ability to fill the void left behind by Blake Corum. [0:34:29] - Peny Boone, RB transfer to Louisville, is analyzed with concerns raised about his performance translating to Power 4 competition and competition at the position in-school. [0:39:40] - Emeka Egbuka at Ohio State, current WR4, is debated in terms of Ryan Day's tendency to sit stars if not fully healthy and Egbuka's comparison to other receivers in drafts. [0:46:38] - Evan Stewart's first round ADP is discussed as too risky for a transfer player, despite his talent and Oregon's recent WR success. [0:54:33] - Kyron Drones, QB at Virginia Tech with a QB26 ADP, is highlighted for his returning cast and offensive coordinator's utilization of Drones' legs, though Jared argues his value in drafts is appropriate. [1:01:48] - Miller Moss, QB at USC, is discussed for his potential under Lincoln Riley's coaching and the value of getting a Lincoln Riley QB in the 10th round. [1:08:06] - Braylon McReynolds, RB at South Alabama with an ADP of RB99, is seen as a better value than Kentrel Bullock, while Jared is skeptical of his potential role. [1:13:55] - Kaden Feagin, RB at Illinois, is highlighted for his potential to become a workhorse back in one of the best rushing offenses in the country. [1:19:09] - Germie Bernard, transfer WR to Alabama who followed Kalen Deboer from Washington, is discussed in light of Deboer's ability to build offenses and his history of producing CFF WRs. [1:23:46] - Kyren Lacy, WR at LSU, is highlighted as a favorite value at WR over CJ Daniels, with Jared emphasizing Lacy's experience over Daniels.
