Classic Marvel Star Wars Comics is back from our Summer Hiatus! In this episode Richard, Sarah and Star Wars artist, Randy Martinez cover issue #15 - Star Duel! - where there are no pants in space. Title: "STAR DUEL" Release Date: May 23, 1978 Writer: Archie Goodwin Artwork: Carmine Infantino, Terry Austin Coloring: Janice Cohen Cover Art: Carmine Infantino, Terry Austin Synopsis: Crimson Jack's battlecruiser is fully operational and waiting for Han Solo and the Millennium Falcon to exact his revenge. Now Han has to make a deal that will exchange Jack's navigational charts which were secretly downloaded by Chewbacca, with parts on Jack's cruiser that will enable a safe getaway for his crew which includes Luke, Leia, Chewie and the droids. How will this hand-off go down between two space pirates? With so much Star Wars content coming out these days, did you ever think that maybe some designs and locations were inspired by these comics? Over the last 14 episodes Sarah and Randy laughed at Richard every time he brought this up. But now we are seeing evidence in LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures. And doesn't that new dreadnaught Star Destroyer from The Last Jedi look awfully familiar? Before we move onto the story of Star Duel we had to talk about a recent Marvel Star Wars Comic panel at Terrificon. Comic artist, Howard Chaykin, brought up the impact of the Star Wars comics in the comic industry. Howard said that prior to STAR WARS, there were artists and creators, but after STAR WARS, it was all about BRANDING. Who agrees with that statement from Howard Chaykin? Listen to our view points and tell us what you think. You can view the full panel below (moderated by author Ryder Wyndham; panelists: comic writer Roy Thomas, Charles Lippincott and Howard Chaykin.) This week, it's a total geekout as we welcome Leland Chee to the show. If you're a Star Wars nerd, odds are you know who Leland is. Unofficially known as the Keeper of the Holocron, he's part of the mysterious Lucasfilm Story Group, and it's his job to maintain a cohesive Star Wars canon. Basically, he's the puppet master of what's official and how it all connects. He knows all. we talk to Leland about LEGO Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, his career with Lucasfilm pre and post Disney, Expanded Universe versus Legends, his role in the Story Group, fan entitlement, and what it's like to know everything about the upcoming films. But wait! That's not all! After our chat with Leland, we also talk to The Freemaker Adventures executive producers and show runners Bill Motz and Bob Roth.

Fangirls Going Rogue: Star Wars Conversation from a Female POV
Fangirls Going Rogue is now an award-winning podcast thanks to our merry band of listeners! We are so excited to be a fan-favorite podcasting ensemble since teamwork has always been part of our message. Come join the celebration in our latest episode. So much has happened since Episode 31. The Rogue One trailer released, Disney XD previewed Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures, and Sarah Woloski earned the Kessel Run medal for conquering the Disneyland and Disney World runDisney events. Teresa Delgado helped break down the news, and Tricia Barr shared insights into her first 5K and reading Star Wars: Bloodline. Be sure to tune into Skywalking Through Neverland Episode 118 to hear more about the listener meet-up. After a fun and rousing discussion on Twitter about The Clone Wars Mortis arc, Fangirls Going Rogue takes a deep dive into storytelling themes and symbolism. Inspired by last month's podcast discussion on the Star Wars Rebel finale, Tricia Barr leads an exploration of duality in Star Wars, from good versus evil to selflessness versus selfishness. Can a selfish choice be a good choice? Can a selfless choice be wrong? Is the balance of the Force simply the natural cycle of life and death, as revealed through the tree shedding its leaves and blooming anew on Mortis as the Daughter dies so Ahsoka can live? The tree inspires the Fangirls to ponder other stories where similar symbolism can be found, such as Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, Pocahontas, and Snow White. Want to continue the conversation? You can, using the hashtag #MortisArcLive. An article on Birth Movies Death about Captain America: Civil War storytellers taking inspiration from The Empire Strikes Back sparked opinions on what lessons Star Wars can take from the successful Marvel model. We want to hear your thoughts. Tell us on Twitter. Teresa went outside the box again for another unique characters discussion. Is a lightsaber a character? We have thoughts, and we bet our listeners do too. We are now on Google Play for Android users. As always reviews and rating are our life blood. Thanks for listening, and until next time: Yub yub!
