Renee Rosnes has traced a momentous musical trajectory over the last 40 years. A pianist and composer of exceptional insight, she’s served apprenticeships with Joe Henderson, Wayne Shorter and Ron Carter, and earned rare stature among her peers. Almost a decade ago, she formed Artemis, an all-women cohort that just released its third album, Arboresque. Rosnes also has a new solo release, Crossing Paths — her first full-length album of Brazilian music, a longtime source of inspiration. (She enlisted two certified legends, Edu Lobo and Joyce Moreno, for the project.) In this conversation, Rosnes opens up about all of the above, as well as the “concrete ceiling” that female instrumentalists are forced to contend with, even now. WUCF's March artist for ‘In the Key of Latin Jazz' is Renee Rosnes. Pianist and composer from Canada who has had an astonishing four decade career. With a resume that includes Wayne Shorter band, Ron Carter Foursight Quartet, Blue Note Records' Out of the Blue and Carnegie Hall Jazz Orchestra...she's a force to be reckoned with. Her ability to hear every single note is what Bill Charlap calls ‘perfect hearing'. Her newest record “Crossing Paths” proves how extraordinary she can be not only as a composer but as an arranger.
PART TWO In 1993, Jennifer Ertman (14) and Elizabeth Pena (16), were rushing home trying to meet curfew. What should have been an ordinary evening for the teens quickly took a devastating turn when they encountered a group of drunk teenage boys who called themselves the “Black and White” gang. The story of Jennifer and Elizabeth became a symbol of the need for greater awareness and action against gang activity. During the subsequent trial, victim impact statements were introduced for the first time in the state of Texas, allowing the families of Jennifer and Elizabeth to directly address the court and express the emotional toll the crime had taken on their lives. These statements gave a powerful, personal voice to the victims' families, highlighting the profound loss and the lasting impact of violence on loved ones. The case not only led to convictions but also marked a turning point in how the justice system handled the voices of victims' families, offering a way for them to seek closure and ensure their pain was acknowledged. This case will leave you wondering: How can such evil even exist in the world? And how did they all seem to find each other? That's why we decided to kick off the refreshed brand with an episode that also sits at the intersection of both React and React Native ecosystems. And what better way to do this than to get together three podcasters:

For many years there has been a myth among journalists that journalism and content marketing can't coexist. You either have to focus on journalism work or on content marketing, but not on both. But this belief is based on false assumptions and outdated beliefs. And in this week's episode, you'll hear why you can do both very successfully as a freelance writer. And, in fact, why you may actually WANT to focus on both. My guest is Lindy Alexander, an award-winning freelance food, travel, and lifestyle writer and content creator living in the vibrant goldfields town of Castlemaine in central Victoria, Australia. Her work has been published in numerous digital and print publications including Sunday Life, The Age/The Sydney Morning Herald, The Guardian, Travel + Indulgence, Travel + Leisure Southeast Asia, delicious, Good Food, The Saturday Paper, SBS Life, Dumbo Feather, Peppermint, Essential Kids, Essential Baby, Modern Farmer, Jetstar magazine and Homes+. I had Lindy on the show a few years ago, where we discussed . This time, we're directly tackling the age-old myth that content marketing and journalism are incompatible. You'll hear exactly how Lindy has navigated these waters like a champ. How's she maintained solid journalistic standards and ethics throughout. And how you can combine both to create real synergies in your business.
Losing a loved one, whether human or a beloved family pet, can evoke a wide range of emotions, which may include: Grief: Grief is the natural response to loss and can manifest in various ways, such as sadness, despair, and anguish. It's a profound emotional experience that reflects the depth of the bond shared with the departed. Sadness: The feeling of sadness is often intense and pervasive after losing a loved one or a cherished pet. It can be accompanied by tears, a heavy heart, and a sense of emptiness. Loneliness: The absence of the loved one or pet can lead to feelings of loneliness and isolation, especially if they were a significant source of companionship and support. Anger: Anger is a common emotion in the grieving process. It may be directed towards the circumstances of the loss, towards oneself, or even towards the departed loved one for leaving. Guilt: Guilt may arise from unresolved issues, regrets, or feelings of responsibility for the loss. People may question whether they could have done more or acted differently. Shock and disbelief: Initially, there may be a sense of shock and disbelief, especially if the loss was sudden or unexpected. It can take time for the reality of the situation to sink in. Nostalgia: Memories of the time spent with the loved one or pet can bring about feelings of nostalgia. Recalling happy moments shared together may provide comfort but can also intensify feelings of longing. Anxiety: The loss of a loved one or pet can lead to feelings of anxiety about the future, particularly if they played a significant role in one's life or provided a sense of security and stability. Relief: In some cases, particularly if the loved one or pet was suffering, there may be feelings of relief that their pain has ended. This can coexist with feelings of guilt or sadness. Love: Amidst the grief and pain, there's often a profound sense of love and gratitude for the time spent with the departed loved one or pet, as well as for the impact they had on one's life. These emotions are all part of the grieving process, which is unique to each individual and can vary in intensity and duration. It's essential for those experiencing loss to allow themselves to feel and process these emotions in their own time and seek support from friends, family, or professionals if needed. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/bronwyn59/message

Welcome back friends, to my second interview, with Eva Maria! This time, we're remembering how our paths crossed, over the years in Munich. In the beginning, we were young parents, and got to know the same American Christians, in the city. Also, there were older men that were pastors, who helped us, and were a great example. It's interesting, how she tells as a young family, they moved to Kansas City, for a year. The goal was, to be trained to start a non-denominational church, when they returned to Munich. Throughout the years, we participated together, in many various city-wide Christian events. Not only with our husbands, but our children, were involved too. She mentions, how my podcast has enouraged her, in looking back on her own past. Being reminded of the importance of forgiveness, and trusting God, for everything. In closing, we agreed that we are both thankful, for the good and the difficult times, we experienced. God has been forming our character and teaching us His ways. PS: I will also be posting some of Eva Maria's old photos on my Instagram page, "vandoorenkristine"

In this week's episode, Michael sits down with Carlos Tao, senior yoga teacher and founder of the FluidUs Academy. Carlos is from Cuban descent, and was born in the United States, now part-time living and working in Bali. Carlos is not your regular yoga teacher, as he's on a journey to re-enchant myth and ritual, breathing life into old traditions, and helping shift what we do and what we see, and being available for our present living world. Carlos starts by sharing his ‘backstory' and what led him to exploring life beyond the ordinary, beyond the material world, to find magic and enchantment. He shares about his ‘slow journey' towards finding ‘ultimate meaning' and the many ways he explored to ‘see something else', find answers, and follow his deep longing for something deep and profound. Michael and Carlos discuss big topics, including: ‘magic', our mythic understanding of ourselves, the cartesian split and other philosophical concepts, reviving ancient traditions, and exploring life outside of our senses. Carlos talks about the ways to shift outside of the horizontal, and move into the vertical, where we can see the world beyond our lenses, experience mystical moments, and explore existence itself. He also explores the left and right brain way of seeing the world. Carlos furthermore shares about the practices that allow us to move beyond our current framing and lenses, and to widen and broaden our vision of an enchanted world. Carlos offers movement, breath and myth practices, to experience the mystery of existence at the FluidUs Academy. Curious to learn more from Carlos and experience magic? Nashville-based country artist Charlie Berry launched his solo career with the release of his first single at the beginning of 2021. Berry produces his own recordings, highlighting his combined talents as a vocalist, songwriter, and instrumentalist. I agree wholeheartedly with this from his bio. Berry is carried by his strong grounding voice, smart songwriting and skill as a producer. Charlie's compositions are catchy and relatable. His influences span multiple genres including Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, and Fleetwood Mac. But Charlie hasn't always been a country artist. He started out playing punk rock back in his home state of Texas and still draws inspiration from the energy of that music. Originally from Dallas, Berry moved to Nashville to immerse himself in the world of country music and has spent the past decade learning the craft of songwriting from the source. After a 7-year run as the singer of country trio Mockingbird Sun, Berry decided to embark on the journey of carving out a solo career for himself. With the release of his single “Whiskey Take It Easy” in January 2021 Berry established his place in modern country. He writes thoughtful lyrics akin to singer-songwriters of the 90s and combines that with production styles of modern country and pop. Based on our conversation, Charlie seems to have found his groove in Nashville and I'm sure he welcomes country super stardom, should that day come. In the meantime he's doubled down on songwriting. We talk about songwriting, plus Spotify streaming numbers, the creative process, booking shows, productivity and routine, studio production (and lessons therein), advice for singers, and advice for surviving Nashville. Please enjoy my conversation with Charlie Berry. Support the Unstarving Musician The Unstarving Musician exists solely through the generosity of its listeners, readers, and viewers. Season 2 Episode 18. In this episode I chat with Rich Stoneman, the associate head coach of the womens soccer program at Longwood University. Rich shares his journey from successful player to coach, including the numerous stops along the way. And, even more impactful, all the amazing coaches that he has been blessed to work with throughout his career. Rich speaks about attending his first coaching course and how a conversation with another coach led him to Baylor University and the beginning of his coaching career. Stops at Lousiana Tech, Eastern Carolina, and Coastal Carolina helped to grow and develop Rich as a coach and, as he shares, even more as a person. The influence coaches have had on Rich is apparent while listening to him chat. He mentioned that the coaching community is actually small and that the coaches know one another. The other thing he shared was the willingness of coaches to give him and other coaches a chance. These opportunities for experience and growth have been super vital for Rich and other coaches. Rich has spent the better part of 10 seasons at Longwood University. And when I asked him about his time at Longwood, Rich's response is focused on Head Coach Todd Dyer. Coach Dyer has been at Longwood for nearly 30 years! Something that is rarely seen at the college level nowadays. Rich shares the importance of his relationship with Coach Dyer and the impact of being on the staff has made in his life. You can connect with Rich on Twitter @StonemanFC Check out Longwood University Womens Soccer at https://longwoodlancers.com/sports/womens-soccer Tons of great nuggets! Hope you enjoy! What does your hand reveal about your life and soul journey? Vernon Mahabal is the founder and director of the Palmistry Institute in Los Angeles CA. In 1979 he began formal training in Vedic (Eastern) cosmology which took him to India many times. He combines both Eastern and Western astrological disciplines into his practice. He continues new research, particularly within the field of dermatoglyphics (fingerprint biometrics) . He has written three best sellers on the subject; ‘The Secret Code On Your Hands', ‘The Palmistry Cards' and ‘Crossing Paths' (Mandala Publishing Group). Vernon has written articles for Women's Day Magazine, First For Women, and the NY Daily News. He is the palmistry consultant for Coast To Coast AM. He is the palmist to Dr. Michael Savage (The Savage Nation radio talk show). He has also been consulted by the New York Police Department. Mahabal has read thousands of hands, given hundreds of lectures and trained hundreds of students. His Institute serves to restore the Art of Palmistry to its previous dignity and respect. ============================== Palmistry: The Self-Awareness System for the Age of Aquarius Palmistry, or hand analysis is a powerful metaphysical tool. This ancient science combines a tangible grid of verifiable psychic energy with the accuracy of astrology. As the age of Aquarius progresses the art of palmistry is making a resurgence and is on the path towards regaining its rightful place in as a dignified and esteemed science once again. The ancient and respected Vedic literature spoke highly of both palmistry and astrology. It declared them the sciences of the “learned and self-controlled” (Srimad Bhagavatam Canto 10, part 3) The Vedas also predicted a coming “Golden Age” coinciding exactly with ancient Mayan future forecasts. Although astrology and palmistry are related, a hand readers approach is much different. The hand is seen as a living tool through which the eternal soul, encased within the material body, speaks its message. Therefore to read a hand is to gain a complete understanding of a person's emotional, creative, spiritual, health and career direction. Unlike astrology, a palmist does not need to know a birth time. The hand itself speaks visibly and concretely like a road map. The lines are created by both brainwaves and planetary influences. Classical palmists thought that the lines contain a planetary energy flowing within them that they named “The astral fluid”. Even today we understand that the brain acts as chemical/electrical computer. The age of Uranian technology is now upon us, and it is symbolic that hand is again being studied seriously as the computer printout of the individual souls journey on Earth. Just under the lines on the hand exist imprints called “dermatoglyphics”. These skin-ridge patterns are scattered throughout the entire palmer surface. These include the fingerprints formed in the womb between twelve and fourteen weeks of age. We are all familiar with law enforcement ‘s extensive use of the fingerprints for identification purposes, while being unaware of the wealth of physiological and life path information that they carry. A seasoned palmist learns more about a client from these ‘derma' patterns than even from the well-known lines. As we enter the age of Aquarius, we find tremendous consciousness changes and an awakening of interest in psychic development. The hand can be an incredible psychic tool. It expresses in great detail exactly which type of intuition or psychic ability the bearer possesses. The hands also radiate powerful and verifiable auras, and are sensitive receivers of psychic energy fields. It is commonly understood by many that use the hand in healing and psychic work that the entire nervous system is represented on the hand in miniature. Many people can “feel” colors with their hands. Others can understand quite a lot about a person by touching and handling their personal possessions. If one were to examine the hands of a healer or body worker after they have helped someone, one would find the Communication Chakra (located directly underneath the little finger) on the hand glowing a reddish color during and after healers work. The hand is filled with psychic energy. When two people sit together for a reading, the palmist comes into contact with a tremendous amount of metaphysical forces radiating from the clients palms. Having noticed this, it is possible to try a complete and thorough reading from a purely analytical approach. However, over time, even the most ‘scientific' palmist will feel their intuitive skills grow. Many hand readers are psychically inclined, so whatever they receive will naturally come from the hands. A seasoned palmist, after receiving much intuitive information will verify it by looking at the planetary aspects depicted on the hands in order to give the most reliable and accurate reading. The palm, in all its astrological data combined with intuition will 'speak' to the hand analyst. The science then becomes an Art. If one studies the hand by insight and observation (two very important Uranian keywords) the destiny and free will of the individual soul can be understood with incredible accuracy. Hand analysis becomes a complete system of understanding human potential. Many believe that the palm is unsurpassed as a tool for revealing the exact career or vocation for which one is perfectly suited. Even in the medical field, research has proven that health trends are clearly seen on the palms. Palmistry has been making a giant comeback due to efforts serious practitioners, and a more discriminating public. For years, cheaters and charlatans have done a great disservice to palmistry, but the tide is now turning as the age of Aquarius progresses, the science of palmistry is seeing a resurgence and its previous dignity restored. It will again be accepted as an esteemed and respected art–a study worthy of the best efforts of the best minds. WEBSITE LINK:
