British racing has some debates on a regular basis - one of them is our principal story in this week's edition of The Front Page. Lee Mottershead, Peter Scargill and Liam Headd reflect on the publication of the 2025 fixtures list, which got plenty of people hot under the collar. Whoever succeeds Julie Harrington as BHA chief executive will lead the work on the 2026 fixture list. We look at the job advertisement published last week and consider what sort of person might be appointed. Finally, we head to France for analysis of a mega merger and Charyn's runaway success in the Prix Jacques le Marois.
Charlotte Greenway in for Nick today and joined by the Racing Post's Lee Mottershead to reflect on a couple of eye catching performances from yesterday whilst assessing the competition to Charyn in Sunday's Prix Jacques le Marois. His owner Nurlan Bizakov joins the show to first reflect on Lazzat's Group 1 victory on Sunday before looking ahead to Charyn this weekend whilst he also nominates some intriguing targets for both horses going forward. With the Cox Plate entries just revealed, Charlotte Mills of Moonee Valley Racing Club casts her eye over those and Nick brings us the regular Timeform segment with Dan Barber before heading to Shadwell for this week's Weatherby's Bloodstock segment with Will Wright.
Nick is joined by Mirror man David Yates to look at the news and events from around the racing and bloodstock world. They are joined by Cheveley Park's Chris Richardson, who looks ahead to Inspiral's bid for a Jacques le Marois hat trick this weekend at Deauville. Yesterday's Group One wining trainer Jerome Reynier joins the show to discuss Lazzatt and a bold bid for Australian glory in the autumn, while Charlie Johnston reflects on a successful Goodwood and a possible St Leger tilt. Plus, Michael Guerin checks in from New Zealand as jump racing in the country comes under significant threat. David Thorpe joins the show to pay his respects to Levy Board Chair Paul Darling KC, who died suddenly on Friday night.
Musk a accepté. The 50th anniversary of any business is a notable milestone, and Marois Construction not only celebrated that achievement last year, but recorded one of its strongest years in memory. On the next episode of BusinessTalk, Carl Mercieri, vice president of the South Hadley-based company, talks with BusinessWest Editor Joe Bednar about how Marois has navigated these challenges while continuing to make its mark on the region in its second half-century. In this episode of the Epigenetics Podcast, we caught up with Claudia Keller Valsecchi from the Institute for Molecular Biology in Mainz to talk about her work on gene dosage alterations in evolution and ageing. Claudia Keller-Valsecchi's team focuses on understanding the fundamental mechanisms of how cellular function in eukaryotes is influenced by gene copy number variation. Recent findings indicate that precise MSL2-mediated gene dosage is highly relevant for organismal development. Since 2020 Claudia Keller-Valsecchi runs her own lab at the IMB in Mainz, Germany, where she tries to understand from a molecular mechanistic point of view how gene dosage compensation works, with projects in mosquitoes and in Artemia franciscanagene, as well as dosage regulation in the mammalian system regarding development and disease.
