Another amazing conversation this time with a creative voice that worked to create real change in the comics industry.Barbara Randall Kesel is a comic book writer and editor with work for DC, Marvel, Dark Horse, Image, and CrossGen. At Dark Horse, she helped create the Golden City setting. She entered comics by writing a critique on female character portrayals to editor Dick Giordano. A vocal opponent of sexism in the industry, she is known for strong female characters, including Grace from Comics' Greatest World. She was a Harvey Award nominee in 1995 and 1996, winning for Hellboy: The Wolves of St. August.Barbara discusses how writing a 10 page letter to DC comics secured her a job, finding the right fit in the companies she worked for and how approaching angry fans with kindness may be a better approach. Today's guest on the Cryptid Creator Corner needs no introduction, but here goes anyway. Among others, he's written for Marvel (Silver Surfer), DC (Green Lantern), Dynamite, Valiant, Image, Dark Horse, and CrossGen. He's written Batman/Aliens, DC versus Marvel, Green Lantern versus Aliens, and the Amalgam Comic Doctor StrangeFate. He wrote Hal Jordan becoming a villain, basically started the "Women in Refrigerators" trope, and withstood the H.E.A.T. of a mid-90s campaign to have him fired from writing DC Comics. It's Ron Marz! Ron joins Jimmy to talk about his long career in comics, the stories he likes to tell, and which characters he still hopes to tackle. Ron talks about some of his experiences attending conventions all over the World and why he enjoys them. This is a wide-ranging conversation with one of the greats. But you may also know him from his animation work in popular shows like Boondocks, Spectacular Spider-Man, Batman: The Brave and the Bold, Young Justice and Transformers: Prime.
