The August mix in recent years (excluding Covid) has become the Suncebeat mix as it's the first mix after the festival. This year marked the last time Suncebeat will be held in Croatia, or the Tisno Gardens at least. It was the fourteenth event which is incredible and shows the quality of the week long soulful house spectacular. It was the quietest in terms of numbers that I've been to and this was my fifth one. What that meant though was the DJ/Punter ratio was awesome. Seemed everywhere you looked legends of the scene were connecting with everyone and were really accessible. The highlights for me included meeting Martin Atjazz and Osunlade (both whom had a huge influence on the c2eMusic sound over the years), grabbing a picture with Osunlade, Spen and Rich Medina, catching up with The Journeymen, Joe Cox and Andy Ward and connecting with Danny T. I was also encouraged to see the youngsters representing, having met the Coughlan Brothers, Ryan and Jay, as well as Noah Herel (yes Ronnie's son) on the Deep Into Soul boat party.I was lucky enough to then catch Noah put down a killer set for Mi-Soul later that night alongside his very proud dad. The pair smashed it with Noah only having a few months of DJing under his belt! Kenny Dope smashed it at the Olive Grove for Terry Hunter's Chosen Few night. It's funny I was always a Louie fan growing up, but more recently Kenny has blown me away everytime I've heard him. I think it says more about my own personal musical journey moving from the more soulful to a deeper more twisted sound. Not to be outdone, Spen put on his own night of magic at the Olive Grove with Dawn Tallman and Aaron K providing a performance to remember together at the end of the night. It was one of those "I was there" moments that you knew was special as it unfolded in front of you.Biggest surprise were Analog Soul out of NY, playing on the Beach Stage on Friday night. I'd never come across them before but there set was amazing. The flow was great, but their tune selection was second to none, at least for my taste and preference anyway. They certainly found a new fan right here.Back to the mix and I have to say it doesn't sound like a regular c2eMusic mix. It's very laid back and chill for the most part. I was worried it might not have enough energy but I can't sit still listening to it. It has a very grown up mature feel to it which feels alien to me (I am after all just a big 48 year old man-child in many ways).I initially wasn't going to release this mix, some of the transitions aren't quite what I'd have liked and I couldn't find a track to end on that brings us back down safely! However, after listening through a couple of times it feels wrong to hold it back when the tunes themselves are cool af. This man has been involved in dance music, clubs & festivals since a lucky break landed him a DJ residency in New York in the mid 1980s. From programming venues to building his own, in the form of the super successful Cargo in East London, to working with brands at over 100 festivals to launching his own dance festival in Croatia. Things have since calmed down just a bit, with a move into running restaurants & cafes in south London yet he still finds time to do radio shows on Mi Soul, SOAS & Netil radio, plus promoting a new series of exciting live gigs in churches called Altar_Native.

Daniel March is an exciting new face taking his place amongst the independent soul music movement with his debut self titled album. Released October 17 in Japan via a deal with acclaimed label P-Vine and in Korea through Leaplay Records (Angus & Julia Stone, Brian McKnight) the 10 track long player showcases a rich blend of soulful sounds that is both lyrically refreshing and musically appealing. The first single ‘Magic' from his latest release is a breezy, intoxicating slice of pop-soul produced by Daniel and Simon Cohen (Justin Bieber, Guy Sebastian, Jessica Mauboy) that will be accompanied by an animated video by Isaiah FiftyFour Design in London. Splitting his time between London and Sydney, the well-respected multi-instrumentalist has been honing his craft working with the likes of Grammy nominated singer, songwriter, and MC, Maimouna Youssef aka Mumu Fresh (The Roots, Common), Chantae Cann (best known for her work with Grammy Winners Snarky Puppy and Foreign Exchange), Jordan Rakei, Wallace, Thandi Phoenix, Young Gun Silver Fox's Andy Platts and rising UK star Tiana Major 9 to name but a few. Influenced equally by the likes of Prince and Van Hunt as he is the soulful acoustic work of Ben Harper and John Mayer, Daniel's organic early recordings took place in Atlanta, Georgia USA alongside the likes of Khari Cabral Simmons (Donnie, India Arie), acclaimed songstress Julie Dexter and Bugz In The Attic's Daz-I-Kue but it was his 2015 single ‘Nina' that saw him mentioned as one to watch in soul circles. In December 2017 Daniel followed up ‘Nina' with the single 'Falling For You' and a remix by Ashley Beedle through Ramrock records. ‘Falling For You' landed Daniel substantial airplay on UK radio such as Mi Soul, Solar, Jazz FM and BBC. Gordon Mac founded Mi-Soul Radio in 2012 providing listeners with a tasteful selection of old soul, R & B, Reggae and soulful house sounds. You will notably recognise him as the figurehead that launched Kiss FM in 1985, being the first individual to take a pirate radio station legalised alongside the likes of Capital and the BBC. Music has always been a stable diet in his life and at a mere age of eight on a family holiday in Bognor Regis, he experienced that wow moment where music captured his heart forever. Gordon arrived on the DJ scene back in 1972 and listening to the words of his Dad – find the job you love and you’ll never work a day in your life – and quite frankly he’s never looked back. today Gordon says happiness is not about money. He notes, ‘It’s only in the past 10 years where I’ve found true happiness and life success with piece of mind’. Stories to make your hair curl, equally living a wonderful life…this is Gordon Mac. Music Choice: Billy Paul - Your Song 007 - Shanty Town Nicolas Beard - Can We Pretend Brian Power - Can we Pretend George Benson - Gonna Love You More Alessi Brothers - Oh Lori
Gordon ‘Mac’ McNamee has played a crucial role in the way the UK has consumed soulful music - from reggae to house - over the last four decades. As founder of Kiss FM, he helped bring black music to London’s rapidly evolving 80s club scene. He took the pirate station on to FM and continued to manage it when taken over by Emap. Now at the helm of new station Mi Soul - which has just landed on DAB radio - Mac retains the relentless passion and unique humour which trademarked his most triumphant years. A true gent and a gleeful music fan, this is one to give a spin. Feel free to stream it or even better, download and subscribe as a podcast. See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Back in the groove for a new year, a mild enough Sunday night to make for an enjoyable ride South, and the unexpected pleasure of having X-Press 2 legends Rocky & Diesel live in the Mi-Soul studio standing for the wandering Ross Allen, (as hence he shall be known!). I was excited to be kicking off with a "new discovery" that my girlfriend, the wondrous DJ Launette, had been more on the case tracking down than myself, though if truth be told we'd both heard Andrew Ashong play it at one of the Penge "Jazz In A House" parties. A vocal version of "Teen Town", which is an immediate winner, especially if like me you're a fan of both Weather Report and jazz harmony vocal groups. Anyway it was a nice way to kick off a new year, which hopefully will have plenty of thrills in store, musically and otherwise. However for the opening salvo of 2015 I loaded up some retro bullets, some not so old and others relatively ancient. Going off at a slight tangent from the norm, this edition of the "jam" has less soulful vocals, a touch of Disco, some odd-step spoken word, and a great Beatles cover version. For no particular reason other than they seem to suggest themselves for selection I pulled out a broken beat classic, a slice of kinda "deep house" which was literally I believe an "under the radar" release from trumpeter Roy Hargrove, and the last vinyl releasee from The Rebirth whose album we hotly anticipate this year. All tunes that still sound fresh to me, and are at least vaguely contemporary. Though it's always shocking when you realise something like The New Sector Movements tune is now old enough to drive a car.... lol. Then there's an unlikely Australian groove, the album has such a terrible cover it's hardly something anyone would look twice at, so I'm grateful that I heard it rather than saw it first!! From Australia to a guitarist from Trinidad a singer from the Netherlands and a pianist from Pittsburgh....picking up the rice in a church where a wedding has been!! Second hour, a dreamy "Dreamflower", a Fender Rhodes odyssey from Mr. Barron, an old GP fave from Dingwalls back in the day, and a poetic homage to dancing feet, rounded off by a Herbie tune that more than any other from his early work was portentous of things to come. Last half hour gets a little disco, jazz-funk, Latin to see us through.... until next week. Hope you enjoy it as much.... Peace, love, and blessings for the new year. P.x 1. University Of Miami Jazz Vocal Ensemble - Teen Town 2. New Sector Movements - Voonga Vonge 3. Roy Hargrove - Universe 4. The Rebirth - Love Issue 5. Stylus - Natural Feeling 6. Michael Boothman - Maya Mosquito 7. Henry Franklin - Blue Lights 8. Monika Linges - Running 9. Frank Cunimondo Trio - Eleanor Rigby 10. Tarika Blue - Dreamflower 11. Kenny Barron - Dawn 12. Ross Allen is something of a wanderer these days, which means that I get the call for extra duties on Mi-Soul on a Friday morning. If I wasn't such a "radio tart" this might be a bridge too far , but I not only love doing radio but I also love cycling to South London, though it must be said that the ride south early on a Friday morning is as different as my selections tend to be when I'm standing in for Ross. Actually it could be even more different as I've contemplated digging out some hip-hop for one of Ross' shows, but it doesn't really get much further than pulling out a couple of tunes and deciding that I'm not really feeling it at the moment. Maybe because it would end up being like something of a lament for hip-hop's classic era, lost values etc etc. Of course there's a dominant strain of vintage music on all my shows, but I tend to think of whatever I'm currently getting into as being just that....current! So it's a relatively jazz-free zone, at least by my standards, there's the odd solo, harmonic twist , and vocal inflection that owes a debt to the tradition but by and large we swim in soulful waters.... of many hues. From gentle beginnings to disco dramatics it's two hours of not quite The Cosmic Jam... and I hope you like it. 1. The Peddlers - On a Clear Day 3. Al Jarreau - Spirit 3. The Simply Salacious Dance Party with Peter Borg on Mi-Soul.com Tuesday 1st April 2014. I woke up on the 1st April to hear the sad sad news that Frankie had passed. At first I thought it was a sick joke, I was only with him on the Saturday at Ministry of Sound, London. I realised it wasnt. I had a mixture of emotions come over me. I could not believe it. The man who was the reason I loved house music was gone. I had the pleasure of meeting him numerous times and the pleasure of dancing to his beat on his very last dancefloor. The number of posts all over social channels show just how much this man was loved. His legacy will live on through his music and through every DJ that plays house music. This was my show on Mi-Soul that Tuesday night where I dedicated the full 2 hours to Frankie. I hope you enjoy the selection. It will be on itunes and soundcloud shortly. Enjoy! www.facebook.com/peterborgmusic www.twitter.com/peterborgmusic www.Mi-Soul.com Tuesdays 7pm-9pm GMT

We also have a full report on the Oscars of Manila's restaurant industry, which we organize and host every 2 years and that just took place at the end of November. Like most good DJs, Peter was exposed to music at a very young age and worked in radio (Choice FM) before he was old enough to get into clubs. After holding residencies at Surrey Mansion, Mayfair, Rouge, The Saint, and Cafe de Paris, he started his Simply Salacious brand in 2004, the name behind some of London's most talked about parties held at a number of venues including Ministry of Sound, Area, and Babalou. Peter has also mixed music on radio stations such as Pressure Radio, and most recently on Kiss FM, when he was approached by founder Gordon Mac to join his new project Mi-Soul. More on Peter Borg music at facebook. We hope to have Peter in Manila in early 2013. Here's a little something to warm-up to. * * * MANILA’S RESTAURANT INDUSTRY CELEBRATES ITS VERY BEST A near-full moon shone over Enderun Colleges Culinary Center on the night of "The Oscars of Manila’s Restaurant Industry", The MBKRS Awards 2012. The large hall of the center’s atrium was packed to the brim with chefs, restaurateurs, hoteliers, media and other guests, waiting with bated breath to hear the results that would be announced that night. 30 award categories, 150 nominees, and a panel of over 100 judges—these are the key elements in this prestigious awarding ceremony that recognizes excellence in Manila’s dining scene. This year’s awards were held on November 27 to a record crowd. Before the ceremony began, guests mingled, munched and sipped on fabulous food and wine sponsored by some of the best restaurants and beverage companies in the city. None other than the honorable secretary of tourism Ramon Jimenez Jr. opened the awards with an inspiring speech. Jimenez urged restaurants to constantly strive for excellence, all the while maintaining “focus” and “consistency”. Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez addresses the restaurant industry (left).
