On Friday the 7th of February 1936, 32-year-old Carmen Swann booked a twin room for one night in Clarendon Court at 33 Maida Vale, West London. Staying in Room 4 of Flat 20 on the third floor, she and her 8-year-old daughter unpacked their cases, popped on their nightdresses, ordered a pot of tea and got into bed beside the reassuring warmth of the fire. Their stay marked the end of a very long journey, and it was here that their lives would cease.Date: Friday the 7th of February 1936, after 9:30pm (drugs taken)Location: Room 4, Flat 20, Clarendon Court, 33 Maida Vale, West London, W9.Victim: 2 (Valerie & Carmen Swann)Culprits: 1 (Carmen Swann) Murder Mile is one of the best UK / British true crime podcasts covering only 20 square miles of West London. Docta Bionix is a rising rap artist from the U.K. who brings a redemptive message of overcoming trails and bringing inspiration into one of the hardest hitting, most oppositional rap genres: drill. I was fascinated to interview Docta Bionix because of the unusual depth of his message. I became aware of his rise early on because of his deep collaboration with producer and engineer Badio in Bournemouth, U.K. (prodbybadio) who was also instrumental in my musical start. We dive into the impact of music on culture and the responsibility of artists. Docta Bionix background stems from hiphop and rap which later led to his involvement in pirate radio stations as an MC. Since his journey began in 2022 He became the platinum and gold award winner for the Koestler awards. Prior to this he continued on his path releasing his first single in May 2023 on GRM daily and other releases also on link up tv. Later that year he participated in the BBC introducing / BBC 1xtra cypher held at the prestigious Maida Vale studios and has numerous spins on stations such as BBC 1xtra, Kiss Fresh and BBC Introducing / Radio Solent. A short piece used for broadcasting that was created by tape manipulation of the sounds of a mechanical cash register. It was part of collection of short works by BBC Radiophonic composers. “This record has been produced with the intention of entertaining rather than informing: the items chosen do not necessarily represent a survey of the music created at the BBC Radiophonic Workshop. The composition and realization of this music and sound is done by a small number of specialized creative staff.” Christmas Baubles, “Orch” from Christmas Baubles And Their Strange Sounds (2002 Lo Recordings). Donate here: GoFund.Me  Hey there podcast enthusiasts! We have an absolute treat for you in our latest episode of "The Property Buzz" hosted by the one and only Neil Gibb. This week, we are joined by the incredible Scott Townsend, a buyer's agent from Perth Property Buyers, who spills all the beans on the booming Perth property market. Scott kicks things off by sharing some valuable insights into market demand and transaction trends. With 14 years of investing experience in the Perth market under his belt, and 9 years working in the building and construction industry, Scott knows his stuff! But wait, there's more! Scott also dives into his own real estate development project, where he discusses the challenges of rising building costs and interest rates, and how he managed to turn a profit despite these hurdles. Talk about determination and a never-give-up attitude! If you're wondering where Scott's agency is heading next, he drops some exciting news about their plans to expand into Queensland. With growth drivers like the Olympics and migration from Sydney and Melbourne, it's clear they know where the action is happening. And of course, Scott shares some success stories from his recent purchases in Greenwood and a renovated property that sold like hotcakes due to low renovation costs and high family demand. It's all about finding those hidden gems, folks! We also get some insider tips on selling properties with a longer settlement period, which can increase your chances of getting that dream property. Scott explains how he offered a 180-day settlement period to a buyer, which was happily accepted by the seller. When it comes to real estate investing, negotiation skills are crucial, and Scott emphasizes the importance of understanding that negotiations involve people, not just price. He even shares a story of buying a property for a young Perth couple, making good use of those government incentives. But what about the popular suburbs in Perth? Scott spills the beans on why Forrestfield and Maida Vale are highly sought after due to their proximity to the airport and new train line, as well as their peaceful atmosphere. However, be prepared to pay a pretty penny because these suburbs are in high demand! Of course, no podcast about the property market would be complete without discussing market trends and challenges. Scott reflects on missed opportunities and the current challenges of buying development sites, with negative media attention causing some headaches. But fear not, because Scott is here to keep you updated on the latest trends in the Perth property market. He talks about median house prices, changes in media density codes, and the confusion caused by Aboriginal cultural heritage regulations. Stay in the know, my friends! Let's not forget about affordability and investor demand. Scott gives us the lowdown on how median prices may be affected by buyers purchasing cheaper properties, while higher-end sales are on the rise. Plus, he reveals how Sydney investors are snatching up apartments in Perth's affluent areas, leaving local buyers in awe. And speaking of migration, Perth is expecting a significant influx of international migrants, with 10-11% of them predicted to move to the city. However, construction rates are struggling to keep up with the demand for housing, creating a bit of a squeeze in the market. If you're a fan of juicy rental market gossip, Scott spills some tea on rental shortages and discrepancies between available rentals and properties for sale. It seems like certain suburbs are experiencing a shortage of rental properties, while others have properties under offer that aren't being updated online quickly enough. Make sure you're on top of things! Buckle up, because Scott takes us on a virtual tour to Canberra too! He delves into the frustrations of emotional buying, high prices, and the continued demand for housing in the capital. And if you're into renovation projects, Scott shares some exciting numbers, with 9 properties sold and an impressive 16% yield achieved on one renovated property. Can you say cha-ching? For all you HMO enthusiasts out there, Scott discusses the increasing costs of renovations and the rising room rates in Perth. With high demand and low supply, room rates are on the up, making it a prime time for investments in the share housing market. Don't forget to grab a pen and paper because you'll want to take notes on all the valuable insights shared. In the UK and Ireland a new music phenomenon is growing - bands that are speaking over their songs instead of singing. Is a new guitar music movement being born? Fontaines D.C., Dry Cleaning and Yard Act, as well as solo artists including Billy Nomates and Sinead O'Brien are just some of the acts using speech prominently in their music. It is not just vocal performance that has been commented on - many emerging bands have been described as having a ‘post-punk' guitar music style and lyrics rich in social commentary. Musician and broadcaster Gemma Bradley meets bands and vocalists to find out more about this exciting music trend and why. James Smith, songwriter and vocalist of English band Yard Act explains why he was attracted to what he describes as ‘spoken word, politically forward' guitar music. He reflects on the power of vocal performance and how the Covid pandemic affected his song writing. Irish vocalist Sinead O'Brien performs on stage with a guitarist and drummer and works in poetry as well as music. She meets Gemma backstage before a gig to discuss how versatile and impactful speech in music can be. Fionn Reilly from Belfast band Enola Gay explains to Gemma what inspires his energetic performance style, vocal delivery and the band's song lyrics. Gemma also visits the prolific and much sought-after producer Dan Carey at his London studio. He has worked with many guitar bands that use speech in their music including Fontaines D.C., Squid, Wet Leg and black midi, and describes the freedom available for artists unconstrained by the parameters of singing. Instead the songs found their way to BBC Radio 1 DJ, John Peel, who described in Offbeat magazine the moment he heard the cassette he drove off the A12 to Suffolk in shock. Peel subsequently invited the band into Maida Vale to do a session. They recorded four songs ("Brickwall Dawn", "Blind Hurricane", "Between Two Crimes" and "Place In the Sun") and it was broadcast in late 1988, and again in 1989. On the back of this they signed to Decoy Records, a sub-division of Rhythm King Records that also was the home of Mega City Four. They recorded their first single "Our New Skin" / "Strung" in Camden with Iain Burgess and followed this with an EP "Stickleback" / "Bed, Table, Chair" / "Necessary Disease" / "Unbroken Line". We had the pleasure of interviewing Kate Stewart over Zoom video!Kate Stewart unleashes her new music, debuting a mesmerizing track of confidence, freedom, female empowerment, and a little bit of resentment, in the new single, “Hate You” – out via The Orchard and Sony Music.Kate Stewart is the vocalist we have all been waiting for. Her 2022 debut single “Hate You”, a sharp declaration of moving on, pushes empowerment within yourself and within female comradery. “Hate You'' is the first release off her upcoming EP, ‘You Had To Be There', which serves as the first part of an entire collection of music catharsis and ignites that intricate flame inside you when the music hits just right.About Kate Stewart Kate Stewart was born and raised in Maida Vale in West London. She grew up in an artistic family: her father is an entertainer, her mother a dancer, and a brother who is a globally recognized and respected music producer and songwriter. It's no surprise she followed in their footsteps. Kate grew up doing musical theater and went to stage school in Chiswick, which was where she discovered her passion for the stage. The ultimate discovery was that as well as realizing the magnitude of her vocalist capabilities and strength, she was deeply in love with singing and moved forward with working as a recording artist. Growing up she loved the timeless female icons; Whitney Houston, Beyoncé, Mariah Carey. They heavily inspired her earlier music and were the catalysts for her later love for music."Hate You" gives a hypnotic and steady release of emotions, taking us through the journey from the end of a relationship to finding empowerment within yourself. It is the musical alignment to that feeling of being “calm and collected” when reaching a place of truth and conviction, elated realization and self love. Kate Stewart gives the gift of those classic, soothing vocals intertwined with a flavor that feels like it's made for today's music explorers and lovers. We want to hear from you! Today marked the start of the Ryder Cup, and with his golf cap turned backwards and a livestream of the tournament in his eye line John really demonstrated his love for golf throughout the show whilst Elis and Producer Dave scrambled to keep things on track. Aside from that, the guys chat to Greg James (the most handsome man on Earth), there's an Unsung Hero who saves lives on the seven seas, Elis crumbles during a Made Up Game and John shows his age by helping some Radio 1 listeners in a youth-orientated Ask John.

Today, Elis and John made history: they became the first Anglo-Welsh double header radio show to broadcast LIVE from the legendary Maida Vale*. Presenting from a studio which had once been occupied by music legends such as Queen, The Beatles, Joy Division and JLS, the guys kicked off their 4 week residency with an absolute corker of a show. There's an Unsung Hero (who incidentally is one of Elis's actual heroes), tales of wasted time and a Made Up Game that goes right down to the wire. *We can't confirm whether they're the first ever 5 Live show to broadcast from Maida Vale, so this is the best we can do.

Another fortnight's passed and we're already at the point of only being happy about the Euros for the excuse to drink on a school night - seriously, how are people still talking about it when there's so much better about to watch? This week we delve into Season 2 of Feel Good and Becoming A God In Central Florida, plus of course the books we've been devouring (Tabitha Lasley's extraordinary Sea State and David Mitchell's riotous Utopia Avenue) along with our favourite short-form literature: stupid tweets, and we may have beaten the toenail one. Our guest this week is the serene and beautifully cerebral Lamorna Ash, author of previous BBC Radio 4 Book of the Week Dark, Salt, Clear: Life in a Cornish Fishing Town. In her honest, hilarious and heartwarming chat with Becky, they discuss what drew her to drop life as she knew it and move to Newlyn, the friendships she found there and of course, what gets her enthused on the daily. If you're a fan of writing, pasta and cult movies, you're gonna love it.And for the big one... For a while now we've been beavering away behind the scenes and we are finally delighted to announce OUR FIRST LIVE SHOW! On Wednesday 21st July you can join us at the beautiful Ocean Studios in Plymouth (or if you're further afield, online) for an evening of chat, performances, food, beers and bants. We cannot WAIT, especially given that we'll be joined for a live podcast recording by Suzy Bennett, award-winning Plymouth-based comedian you may know from support dates for Jimmy Carr and more, and the glorious also award-winning, Glastonbury and Maida Vale-playing, Mystery Jets and Robert Plant supporting Ferris & Sylvester! We know too that everyone's erring towards being stone cold broke (us too) and so the tickets are pay what you feel and in limited numbers. We can't wait to see you there!! Thanks for Coming as Ploughmans and cricket clubs up and down the country kickstart their 2021 season on a sunny April green top. The long-standing pre-season friendly saw both teams unleashing pent-up bowling attacks and batsmen trying to mark their territory at the crease. Our traditional Club Day blew away many cobwebs to see plenty of wickets, boundaries, catches and appeals and gave our highly valued Chairman the chance to hand out the 2020 trophies. And importantly, the fantasy ship has set sail - have you got onboard? They've both experienced a TFC or two in their time - with one of our hosts getting close to another this weekend. They are of course Surrey's deadliest bowling partnership and can regularly be found lurking in nets from Maida Vale to Dulwich or opening in the Surrey Premier League for rising stars Ploughmans CC. ———————————————— I. 感知 Judee Sill - The Kiss (01:11) Grizzly Bear - Easier (05:28) 1972年 Judee Sill 在伦敦现场录音 "The Kiss", 她说这首歌讲的是 "a communion of kiss",可以是浪漫的,也可以是圣洁的; 而 Grizzly Bear 2006年的单曲 Easier 描述的却是时间对人和感性的消磨——如何守卫一种亲密关系,最认真的那个答案,却往往是最难的。 II. 03. Michael White - Land Of Spirit & Light (I, II & III) (09:26) 1973年 Impulse! 厂牌出版的 "The Land of Spirit and Light", 爵士小提琴家 Michael White 沿着 Pharoah Sanders 和 Alice Coltrane 的足迹,带着对世界和土地的敬意,带来了这部颇有灵性的作品。 III. 04. Niagara - Terpsichore (20:02) 05. Vanishing Twin - Language Is A City (Let Me Out!) (26:10) 06. IV. The Molds - Street Shooting (35:10) 一直在暗处滋长的 The Molds, 终于在2018年发表了专辑 "Born Astride the Grave". Soft Machine - Facelift / Mousetrap / Noisette / Backwards / Mousetrap Reprise (Recorded 10.6.69 at BBC Radio Top Gear, Maida Vale, Studio 4) (44:21) Soft Machine

In today's episode Alex & Mimi share the mic with London's most exclusive real estate agent, Daniel Daggers. Who recently sold “The most expensive terrace house in UK” for a breathtaking 130 million US dollars.   Alex and Mimi talk to Daniel about his journey from childhood, having a dream to be a professional football (soccer) player, up to current days where he only works with clients wishing to buy luxury properties over £10 million pounds.   Daniel's dream was to become a professional football player. Growing up in a council house, his parents gave him a secure environment and saved up, sending him to a private school in Maida Vale. This was where Daniel soaked up the multicultural environment he was surrounded by, giving him a foundation to get on with everyone. An important step in becoming a ‘people person' he would have to become later in life.   Daniel started his carrier when he was 17, while studying GNVQ in business. His school required 2 weeks experience in properties. Unfortunately at the time, and due to a broken collar bone, he had to seek other opportunities outside of football, so he started to work in a real estate company.   He started to develop his knowledge, experience and assets everyday. After 11 years in the company he realised he was dominating and doing things no-one else was doing. In 2007 when the credit crunch hit, he realised the target market that he needed to be working with in order to survive the market crash. During this year he joined Knight Frank real estate, where he chose to focus on 4-10 million pound properties.     He understands that business is much more than selling, and shares the importance to engage and create a bond with the customers through the right communication, emotions, trust and a personalised approach.   His success did not come automatically – he had to work hard and learn the ability to listen and observe. During his journey he took baby steps, built his confidence and created a business environment, where people want to do business with him.   “I love the journey more than the result. Do everything to the best of your ability.”- Daniel Daggers   Daniel also shares the importance of social media in real estate. Via his Instagram account @daniel_daggers, he tries to engage young people showing both the ups and down in business.   You'll also learn:   How your upbringing can influence your future assets How to define your clients What are the patterns of ultra successful people The importance of social media in business How to become a better more genuine sales person How to incorporate storytelling when selling properties Daniel's top negotiation tricks How your environment influences your business How his clients value efficiency and time.
