Season 7 Episode 7! St Vincentian, Michelle Hart is a solution focused hypnotherapist and meditation teacher with over 20 years experience within social care and the voluntary sector. She witnessed firsthand the burnout and fatigue of the compassionate women around her whose love and care for others did not always stretch to themselves. She has a passion for supporting midlife women to embrace this stage of their lives, by getting curious about who they are now, what they want and need so that they can bring more joy into their lives with the understanding that they too are worthy of the compassion they show to others. We had a conversation about > partial hysterectomy and fibroids >the horrors of 'flooding' periods > what exactly 'hypnotherapy' is > unusual symptoms > how she found her freedom This is an uplifting conversation and and episode. that will give hope to many. Grassroots Wildland Firefighters vice president Lucas Mayfield and advocate Michelle Hart come on The Landscape to talk about what it's like to be a wildland firefighter and what the federal government can do to attract new people to the profession. The post Wildland firefighters just got a raise… but is it enough? appeared first on Center for Western Priorities.
On this month's episode of Late Night Lit, Late Night's Sarah Jenks-Daly talks to Michelle Hart, author of "We Do What We Do in the Dark," and Rakesh Satyal, executive editor at HarperOne and an award-winning novelist.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Michelle Hart's debut novel tells the story of a Mallory, a freshman in college who becomes entangled in an affair with an older woman, a professor at the university. Years later, Mallory is forced to finally face what this relationship has meant to her, and whether it was ever healthy in the first place. Hart joins us to discuss the novel, titled We Do What We Do In the Dark, as part our series spotlighting debut authors, 2022 Debuts.
Michelle Hart's fiction has appeared in Joyland and Electric Literature, and she has written nonfiction for Catapult, NYLON, The Rumpus, and The New Yorker online. Previously, she was the Assistant Books Editor at O, the Oprah Magazine and Oprah Daily. She received her MFA from Rutgers-Newark and lives in New Jersey. We're joined by Michelle Hart, author of the novel We Do What We Do in the Dark and a former editor for Oprah Daily. For our reading this week, Michelle chose a short story by Leopoldine Core, "Hog for Sorrow," about a young sex worker with complicated feelings towards one of her clients and toward one of her coworkers.
Mallory sees the woman for the first time at her college gym and is immediately transfixed. As a naturally reserved person who is now reeling from the loss of her mother, Mallory finds herself compelled by the woman's assurance and longs to know her better. Despite the discovery that she is a professor at the college, Mallory finds herself falling into a complicated love affair with the woman, the stakes of which she never quite understands. In the years that follow, Mallory must come to terms with how the relationship shaped her, for better or worse, and learn to become a part of the world that she sacrificed for the sake of a woman she never truly knew. In this enthralling debut novel, the complexities of influence, obsession and admiration reveal how desire and its consequences can alter the trajectory of a life.
When smokejumper Tim Hart passed away from injuries sustained during a hard landing in New Mexico in May, his wife Michelle Hart quickly realized that she needed a way to channel her grief into something tangible. She realized she was in a unique position to draw attention to the needs of wildland firefighters—she had a personal connection to the issues facing them, and as a lobbyist, she also had the legislative chops to make legitimate change at a congressional level. This all culminated in the creation of the Tim Hart Wildland Firefighter Classification and Pay Parity Act, which addresses firefighter compensation, benefits, access to mental health resources and availability of housing for firefighters, among other provisions. We spoke with Michelle about the bill and the grief that influenced its creation back in November. They've continued garnering support for the bill, though not much as changed with the bill since when we chatted with Michelle. As of January 19, the bill has been referred to the subcommittee on Conservation and Forestry, where it awaits support from the senate.

On this episode of The Adaptables, Abbe and Emma chat about episode eight—the finale!—of the Hulu adaptation of Celeste Ng's bestselling novel LITTLE FIRES EVERYWHERE. They're joined by Mira Jacob, author of GOOD TALK and THE SLEEPWALKER'S GUIDE TO DANCING. Abbe, Emma, and Mira discuss baby birds, trans-racial adoptions, being surprised by the adaptation of a book we've all read, those pesky fires everywhere, Elena's redemption and more. Discussion breakdown: Emma's Fire Count (2:22–4:33) Emma recaps the episode (4:45–9:31) The lemonade stand flashback, the baby cardinal and what it means to Izzy (9:33–10:42) The four Richardson siblings against the world—and their mother (10:42–12:58) Elena sniping at Bill, yelling at Izzy about the Keds, and her softness with Lexie (13:00–14:19) Elena on Lexie and Brian's breakup (14:19–15:22) Linda's testimony, speaking about May Ling's birth culture and the stickiness of a trans-racial adoption (15:22–18:19) Mia's audiobook on A Look at Race in Shaker Heights and her latest art project (18:20–19:24) AD Writ Large (19:25–20:34) Mia building Shaker out of flour and inviting Pearl to witness her art (20:34–22:33) Pearl's agency grows and the complexity of being a person in the world (22:33–24:00) Celeste Ng on her characters today: “I have a general sense of them and my general sense of them is that they're going to be okay.” (24:00–24:27) Mia and Izzy's farewell conversation and the scorched earth (24:29–25:28) In the book, who is responsible for burning the house down? How does that differ in the show? (25:30–25:41) Does Elena's taking responsibility for her children's actions excuse everything else she's done up ‘til now? (25:41–27:23) Were we surprised by the verdict? Do the beautiful, rich people always win? (27:24–31:15) The fiery ending! (31:16–34:21) The final scene: was it satisfying? (34:21–35:30) Our Favorite ‘90s moments: Fat-Free lemonade, Mirabelle watching Barney & Friends, Izzy's outfits, Bill's cigarette smoking, and Men in Black, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and Excess Baggage. (35:30–37:30) Mira Jacob tells us about her graphic memoir, GOOD TALK (38:15–40:11) What is Mira reading? (40:12–40:35) TV show recap: A flashback episode to the early ‘90s when the Richardson children are young. They are running a lemonade stand, and Izzy tries to rescue a baby cardinal. Izzy tries to throw out all of her girly clothes, floral curtains, and Keds that she no longer wants to define her. Pearl and Mia are still at odds. Pearl asks Mia to call her dad and tell him about her. Mia does try to call the Ryans and Madeline picks up and correctly guesses who it is. Elena: still meddling. Asks her doctor friend to break confidentiality about Bebe, but discovers Lexie/Pearl's file instead. Linda gives her testimony and the judge goes into a week of deliberation. The judge rules in favor of the McCulloughs and they are awarded custody of Mirabelle. Mia and Pearl make up, at Trip's urging. But they realize they can't stay in Shaker and leave without saying goodbye. Izzy sees Mia and Pearl leaving the key and tries to chase after them, but it's too late. Izzy snaps and grabs a gas can to light her belongings on fire. The other three Richardson children see her, and try to stop her, but then what Elena says causes them all to light matches and start little fires everywhere. Izzy runs away. Pearl and Mia leave Shaker and Pearl decides she wants to see her grandparents. Bebe steals her daughter back from the McCulloughs and makes a run for it. Elena takes the blame for the fires and goes to the duplex hoping Izzy is there, but she isn't. She finds the cardinal feather in Mia's artwork and cries over the ruination of her perfect life and the loss of her daughter. LITTLE FIRES COUNT: 10

We sit down in our million dollar kitchen and discuss eggs benedict with the always funny, Michelle Hart.
Tonight Michelle Hart, one of a handful of experts on the Mesopotamian Princess, Priestess and Poetesse, Enheduanna, will share with the VSF audience the important role of the first non-anonymous author of all literature. Yes, a real, flesh and blood woman who lived from 2300-2225 BC! Enheduanna was revered as the most important religious figure of her day. Through her powerful hymns to Inanna, the Goddess of Love and War, she changed the course of history and was remembered for centuries after her death. Her writing is so intricate, scholars call her the "Shakespeare of Sumerian literature." Her hymns function as multi layered incantations, interweaving political, personal, ritual, theological, historical and legal dimensions. And we'll hear about the possible connection between Enheduanna and the Pleiades!
