Welcome back yet once again to another episode of the best Monday morning podcast this side of the Mississip' - Bubble's Mushrooms. This time we're joined by our friend and #1 viewer, Shawn. We revisit some of our listening statistics to check in with Belgium Guy and find out is we have any new international listeners to meet, Edward checks to see if Shawn can classify animals in the way he thinks it should be done, talk about Shawn's line of work and the demographics of Grand Rapids, Katie decides to get a few new pieces of equipment over at Homer Hills so she can steal more rocks from the dentist's office and also gives us a fever dream update involving potatoes and pride! Next, we touch on Steven Segal again briefly and jump right into our weekly activity. We talk about the 4 movies from the 1980's that have influenced our lives. Katie talks about the movie that got her into bugs, Edward likes listening to Corey Feldman jams, Luke is a big fan of being excellent and Shawn used to go see movies at the Quad 6. Turns out that Luke was a punk rock kid because he saw Suburbia and Edward really likes crappy robots. Wow we just had a big storm and my power got knocked out. I wonder if I'll be able to get the episode uploaded in time! On this episode, which is either now being uploaded or nothing happened in any way at all and I'm sitting in the dark like a caveman, we have a screen you can go into when you pass away, which is nice, another layer of abstraction to paste over the top of any of your personal or professional interactions, which is fantastic, and a stupid little piece of rubber. Hell if there were 3 more of the damn things on here I reckon that would make for a great episode. Which there are, and it did/does! So listen to it! Even though it's summer time and we're all doing a lot better stuff than listening to our phones, such as (??) and (???). Music for YKS is courtesy of Howell Dawdy, Craig Dickman, Mr. Baloney, and Mark Brendle. Additional research by Zeke Golvin. YKS is edited by Producer Dan. YKS Premium - Ayy, where the party at! Girls is on the way, where the Bacardi at! It's at YKS Premium! Where we really let our hair down and go crazy! Last Friday we had our friend Zöe Ligon on the show to debut our Miketober Minis with Death Spa (1988)! And this Friday, we will be going Catfish Noodlin' on the Ol' Mississip! Just kidding it will be a normal episode where we are sitting down inside and looking at the computer.Follow us on Instagram: @YKSPod and TikTok: YourKickstarterSucksThis week's episode of YKS is brought to you by these fine brands:Factor - Yum yum yum! It's Christopher and Eric's birthday month. And what have these dark lords of the podcastverse unleashed at this time of celebration and reflection? Mortality Month, of course. In part thanks to you. Our beloved Party People asked us to take a break from grisly murders and return to the world of the paranormal (and it's “occasional” fraudsters and cranks.) To give it a birthday theme, your hosts cut a path through the states they've called home, starting with the boot-shaped one at the mouth of the muddy Mississip. Follow along as they serve up episode 1 of season 1 of HAUNTED USA, entitled “New Orleans”. In the City That Care Forgot, Christopher and Eric face off with rampaging spirits (and tourists), night vision cameras and haunted houses where everyone seems a little too eager to make a quick buck.
Well folks, there's no easy way to say this, so we'll get right to it. In this episode, we announce that the podcast is coming to an end. Thank you all for being part of this community. The past six years have been absolutely wild. We've laughed, we've cried, we've… talked about buttholes. (Too often, perhaps??) Many of you have been part of this community for years. We appreciate your warmth, your support, and your willingness to cackle along with two very goofy grown women. We're blown away by how big this little indie podcast has become. We started with one microphone on a TV tray, and we're ending on March 29 & 30th with two sold out live shows. What a way to go. We couldn't have done it without you. As you can probably imagine, this decision wasn't an easy one. We talk about it quite a bit on this episode. Arriving at this decision has been tough, but we know that it will free us up to do what we're meant to do. For Brandi, that'll mean spending more time with her family, having *just one* full-time job, and getting out of content creation. For Kristin… well, first she has to get her butthole back from Brandi. After that? Who knows! Thank you all again for being part of this community. You're the skeeziest scunches in all the land, the best listeners this side of the mighty Mississip', and the meanest Bob Mosses this town has ever seen. We appreciate you. …. And now that you're good and bummed, please hang in there for a truly disgusting story. This week, Kristin tells us about Dr. Harvey Wiley, whose relentless hard work led to the creation of America's first consumer protection laws. We guarantee you'll never look at milk the same way again. And now for a note about our process. For this episode, Kristin read a bunch of articles, then spat them back out in her very limited vocabulary. We owe a huge debt of gratitude to the real experts who covered these cases. In this episode, Kristin pulled from: The “Poison Squad” episode of American Experience The book “The Poison Squad: One Chemist's Single-Minded Crusade for Food Safety at the Turn of the Twentieth Century” by Deborah Blum YOU'RE STILL READING? My, my, my, you skeezy scunch! You must be hungry for more! We'd offer you some sausage brunch, but that gets messy. So how about you head over to our Patreon instead? (patreon.com/lgtcpodcast). At the $5 level, you'll get 50+ full length bonus episodes, plus access to our 90's style chat room!
A nostalgic, classic Americana pervades the Unknown, the liminal realm where forgotten stories go. And what could be more American than tearing down a magical forest to build a monument to capitalism that will be profitable for about 30 years? It's not exactly paradise, but we're paving it anyway! For MONEY! USA! USA! USA! Adam made an appearance in The Crucible of Fate, a D&D 5e actual play game show where players bravely compete against each other in deadly games and contests!
