Following the final show of his tour with Mortiis, Roger Karmanik sat down with us for a great discussion covering Brighter Death Now, Cold Meat Industry, and all things in-between. For multiple decades Roger has created a world that has inspired countless artists and labels up to this very day. Obviously Roger has been someone we've wanted to talk to since Noisextra's inception and we're incredibly grateful he sat down with us. Pull up and chair and enjoy this absolute supper. For the ExtraNoisextra segment on the patreon, Tara gives her thoughts on the BDN show since she was unable to be in the regular episode.
This week I'm pleased to welcome the godfather of dungeon synth and former bassist for Emperor, the legendary Mortiis. Our discussion spanned all of his various eras, his decision to return to the stage after a lengthy hiatus. We speak about the realities of growing older as a musician and Mortiis reveals why he almost gave up on music altogether. Then, it's on to a rundown of some of my favourite releases of the last weekend, including new albums by Other World, Modern Rites, Deceased and Concrete Winds. On my weekly news rant I round up the latest singles by Nasty Savage, Aiwaz, To The Grave, Veilburner and Vulvodynia.PLUS: Dutch black metal quartet, The Shiva Hypothesis, step into the independent band spotlight. ▶️SUPPORT THE BANDS FEATURED ON THIS EPISODEMortiishttps://mortiis.bandcamp.com/ Other Worldhttps://other-world.bandcamp.com/ The Shiva Hypothesis https://the-shiva-hypothesis.bandcamp.com/ Emperor https://candlelightrecordsuk.bandcamp.com/album/wrath-of-the-tyrant-emperor ▶️SUBSCRIBE TO THE PODCAST https://youtube.com/c/IntoTheNecrosphere ▶️STREAM & DOWNLOADAmazon Musichttps://amzn.to/3epNJ4KSpotifyhttps://spoti.fi/3iKqbIPApple Podcastshttps://apple.co/38wDYhi ▶️SOCIAL MEDIAFacebookhttps://www.facebook.com/intothenecrosphere Instagramhttps://www.instagram.com/intothenecrosphere Twitterhttps://twitter.com/inecrosphere ▶️INTO THE NECROSPHERE MERCHhttps://into-the-necrosphere.creator-spring.com▶️THE HORSEMEN OF THE PODCASTING APOCALYPSE Horrorwolf666https://thehorrorwolf666podcast.buzzsprout.com/ Everything Went Blackhttps://everythingwentblack.podbean.com/ Necromaniacshttps://necromaniacs.podbean.com/ Sol Noxhttps://www.solnoxpodcast.podbean.com/ Iblis Manifestationshttps://linktr.ee/iblismanifestationspodcast
We're back with your regularly scheduled Toilet. This week we're talking about the new, revitalized Mayhem Festival and its utterly dire lineup. Mortiis is hitting the road and I plan to crowdkill everyone in the room. Hunt the Dinosaur's vocalist took a selfie with a porcine lil murderer and we get to make fun of both for a few minutes. Ronnie Radke vs. Sebastian Bach: Extreme Revenge Porn Edition. Litvrgy's Triple H is really into christcore now and it seems to be bumming everyone else out. Finally, we're living under the threat of dozens of concurrent Mushroomheads at any given time. Folks, it's a good one. Want more Toilet Radio? Mortiis has been an outlier and a legend in dark music for decades. From being an original member of Norwegian Black Metal band Emperor, to his solo work as Mortiis, to the suicidal ambience of Vond, Mortiis has often been misunderstood, yet he has blazed his own path with no regard for trend or what could be deemed successful. Now, decades later, the genre Mortiis arguably created has had an explosion in popularity worldwide. In this episode we welcome Mortiis into our own dungeon to discuss Dungeon Synth past and present, his time in Emperor, gear, and his writing process. We also welcome Jori Apedaile of Eneferens as he joins us as a third host and helps us tackle listener Emails about download codes, meeting our musical heroes, as well as helping us keep track of all the damn people named Kyle that write in. The three of us attack another "FMK," a "T-Shirt of the Day," and of course a "Let's Stump Nick (and Jori)." -------------------- Hosts: Jason Walton and Nick Wusz. Special guest host Jori Apedaile.
Where do we even start with this episode? Back in May, longtime returning guest August West agreed to join Dylan in talking about a band crucial to his formative years as a metal fan. This seemingly mundane task was upended by a tornado (no joke) and massive fatigue (likely a symptom of being forced to listen to Dylan ramble), resulting in an episode recorded over the course of three sessions. But eventually, they got their shit together to talk about Atlanta, GA sludge outfit, Zoroaster. They delve into their discography and also manage to tell Dylan's mom about Come to Grief, get Mortiis to give DOD the thumbs up, vacuum up rattlesnakes, get Mike IX's approval of Bud Light Seltzer, praise Fred Ward's finest role as the Night Vulture, learn all about Master Therion, find out why Dylan doesn't listen to singles, get old with Clutch, and get ripped off by Skillet. Albums Covered: Zoroaster (2005) Dog Magic (2007) Voice of Saturn (2009) Matador (2010) Happy holidays everybody! Stay safe out there, smoke weed, and be good to each other.
Mortiis is one of the most singular and transcendental electronic artists of the past 30 years and it was an absolute honor for us all to get a chance to speak with him. What transpired was a riveting discussion on the entire body of work left by Mortiis, Vond and beyond. We get into his relationship with Cold Meat Industry, working with Merzbow, his early electronic music influences, and so much more. Join us and we wander through castle ruins and crooked paths with Mortiis.

This week we answered YOUR questions, of which there were many. We're tackling your topics such as: NES Classics like Mega Man and Bible Adventures, Old Nick vs Mortiis, edgyboi comic book artists, UGH vs BLEH, handsome metal tees, a round of Fuck-Marry-Kill, kaiju, creating a better metal scene, trading a current artist for a departed one, and what is extreme music? This is a good one for people that are fans of spicy ones. NEXT WEEK: The October Spooktacular BEGINS. Watch Edge of the Axe (1988) on Shudder if you wanna come prepared for our special guest. Once again we are finding ourselves in a sad state of No Joe. We assure you he is alive and well, but in his stead, you're once again getting these jams kicked out courtesy of Microphone Mosh Masters, 365 Days Of Horror and Breno. We discuss Mortiis posting relevant news items on his Facebook, Atilla getting sued over sucker punching venue staff, Metallica getting their live stream dubbed over because of rules they started in the first place, and how the internet lost its once lawless, wild west charm. It's a hot one on the Roach Koach Podcast this week as Jenny, Lorin and Matt listen to Coal Chamber's debut album and consider the arc of nu-metal as one big, out of control party. Topics discussed: Guessing what Robert Christgau would have given this album had he reviewed it, Jenny and Muriel: a friendship forged in the Chamber; "A splash of Zombie", "If Ross was here…", Is Coal Chamber on your sex playlist?; pitching Mortiis, giving credit for a bit, SongMeanings.com, Who's Tweeting, and of course, deciding if Coal Chamber deserve a place in the Nu-Metal Canon. This week on Roach Koach Jenny, Lorin, and Matt are "keeping it bugs" as they burrow into the major label debut album by Alien Ant Farm. Topics discussed: How much did Alien Ant Farm borrow from Papa Roach? Can a band be too clever for their own good? Did 9/11 end nu-metal? Are Alien Ant Farm secretly fans of big rig semi trucks? What can nu-metal bands learn from Mortiis? Jenny and Lorin take some time to answer listener questions and of course, decide whether or not Alien Ant Farm deserve a spot in the nu-metal canon.
