This week we were wondering, does Alien Ant Farm have any other songs besides that Smooth Criminal cover? Turns out they did, they called it ANThology and it came out in 2001. We listened to it for a week straight and have some thoughts. In this episode we discuss practical jokes, dangerous music, Goosebumps books, celebrity chimp bites, ICP, bad song covers and so much more! In our newest sub-series, Primus Legacy, we speak with pro musicians who have a fondness for Primus, and how the music impacted their musical paths. We begin with the great Tye Zamora, who you may know from Alien Ant Farm, 'mēk, and his stints subbing in for bands such as Slightly Stoopid. Tye charts his Primus superfandom and how it influenced his development as a bassist, and handles with ease Frankie's rapid-fire questions. We should note that his a capella versions of Primus tunes are top notch. Interview by Kris PetersWhen CKY pulled out of the Australian leg of their Australian tour with Alien Ant Farm towards the end of last year the collective sighs from around the country could be heard far and wide, but when Drowning Pool were named as their replacements those sighs turned into boisterous cheers, especially when coupled with the recent news that Ryan McCombs had rejoined the band.Their fresh single Revolution emphatically proved this was more than a nostalgic reunion run of shows, with McCombs - in fact the whole band - sounding as ferocious and uncompromising as ever. For some the wait would seem like forever, and for those forever has finally come with Drowning Pool set to join Alien Ant Farm and Frankenbok for a series of co-headline shows kicking off in Brisbane on February 7.HEAVY spent some time with McCombs not long before he flew out to join the rest of the band. One of the questions we asked related to the fact lots of people will be coming out to see the show because of one song - Bodies - but Drowning Pool are far from a one trick pony."The song Revolution came out recently, (and) you've also got Step Up from the Jason Jones era…" he measured. "The cool thing about this band is it's very easy to separate the band into four different eras. You can easily do that with Dave Williams, Jason Jones, myself and Jason Morano, it's very easy to separate that. You'll see… live-wise you'll see every flavor of the band through those years because I think it's very important to always keep in mind as a member of Drowning Pool that not only are we blessed and lucky that people have kept us around this long, but you have to have the realization and the reality of the fact that some people out there… some people are old school, man. They were into the band from dave Williams on. Some people maybe they didn't get introduced to Drowning Pool until Desentsitized and Step Up and Hate, maybe some of those songs were their favourite tracks. Maybe my era with Feel Like I do or Enemy or one of those songs, maybe that's their era. Or maybe some of the stuff with Jason Marano like Finger & A Fist, or Redlight, maybe that's their flavor. So as a member of the band you've gotta keep in mind that there's people out there in the crowd who may be a fan of any one of those eras that may be their favourite so you wanna incorporate pieces and parts of all those times into the live show so everybody walks away and they heard a track from their album. It's not only awesome to be kept around this long, but it's awesome to have a discography like Drowning Pool has that you're able to pull from such a vast variety of music to make a killer set. Or what you hope is a killer set (laughs)."In the full interview, Ryan shared what we can expect from Drowning Pool's shows, their relationship with Alien Ant Farm, rejoining the band and how it came about, his first show back and how it felt, new single Revolution, future new music and what to expect and more.ALIEN ANT FARM and DROWNING POOL February 2025 Australian Tour Dates:Friday, February 7 - BRISBANE, Princess TheatreSaturday, February 8 - SYDNEY, Metro TheatreSunday, February 9 - MELBOURNE, Northcote TheatreTuesday, February 11 - ADELAIDE, Lion Arts FactoryWednesday, February 12 - PERTH, Magnet HouseTix: www.thephoenix.auBecome a supporter of this podcast: https://www.spreaker.com/podcast/heavy-music-interviews--2687660/support.

This week, Vaughn Stoffey of Defeated Sanity joins us on The MetalSucks Podcast! We are all in on the new album Chronicles of Lunacy, out this Friday, November 22! We start the conversation on the Taxi Driver sample used on the latest single “Accelerating The Rot”, embracing cult horror, and what determines the line of tasteful to tasteless in gore. We also discuss the passing of the iconic Tony Todd and some of his amazing performances, overcoming fear being something artists can get addicted to when creating, the band's touring plans for next year, and the inner workings of the album artwork. Petar and Sylvia discuss CKY getting kicked of a tour with Alien Ant Farm because of a physical altercation, Download announcing the headliners for the festival next year, Down and Scour reportedly releasing new music in 2025, and Sebastian Bach embarrassing his family on the internet because he is “not perfect”. Esjay Jones hails from Durban, South Africa - the same town as me - so we've gigged and hung out quite a bit in the past. She went on to front the successful SA pop-rock band Stealing Love Jones before making the big leap to the USA where she pursued and achieved a very impressive songwriting and music production career. She's collaborated with people like Billy Corgan (Smashing Pumpkins), Brian 'Head' Welch (Korn), Dave Navarro (Jane's Addiction/Red Hot Chill Peppers), Shifty Shellshock (Crazy Town), Alien Ant Farm and Morgan Lander (Kittie). In fact, the collab with Lander led to the creation of the pair's alcohol-free beer phenomenon, KittiePIG (https://kittiepig.com).And that doesn't tell half the story - how her unique talent, drive and determination has seen her through, taken her places most musicians only aspire to. Hopefully our chat uncovers at least some of that. Thanks for your time Esjay, it was a real fun one!Find out more about Esjay Jones: https://www.esjayjones.com/Listen to We Are PIGS: https://open.spotify.com/artist/0QRmv4wNihLdpSIjRxFFrz?si=DuHBmFh4TyGhefqecBXrpw / https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/we-are-pigs/1545506097Listen to Stealing Love Jones: https://open.spotify.com/artist/1h5Z07yv6lnDhygWTDmCGE?si=Drbw1WzVSd68xcWyQWUfFQ / https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/stealing-love-jones/280223554Listen to my music on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/artist/6EU9T2T2wFtIZGwhYeYkxx?si=CTjGWZFMTheaK7iTCnhOXQ / https://open.spotify.com/artist/5sHBcFmZOnDRoyIcJCtvI9?si=8wG3vDRaSgqhqH-gN3fxVQListen to my music on Apple Music: https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/thumbofrule/1560754178 / https://music.apple.com/gb/artist/anova-skyward/971275560Download Caught In Time and other tracks: https://anovaskyward.bandcamp.com/album/caught-in-time / https://thumbofrule.bandcamp.com/album/bad-hair-in-the-house-of-the-king Hosted on Acast. Join Esjay and I as we crack open a KittiePig NA beer and chat about the how this beer came to be. We get into how her and partner Morgan Lander of Kittie landed on making an NA beer, how they landed on Saskatoon Berries as part of their flavor profile and how working with Alien Ant Farm on their beer helped inform a lot of decisions the ladies made with their own. Esjay talks about the similarities between collaborating with someone on a beer to working on writing a song, and how a lot of those two worlds actually go hand in hand more than you might think and more in this chat with the We Are Pigs front woman. TODAY: Alex encounters two separate MDC style coworkers in his UPS facebook groups using dead coworkers to promote their awful, reactionary politics. Let's see how this one plays out PLUS: Terrace K Williams has $25k stolen from him (?) but won't stoop to naming the guy who did it (??). We investigate. FINALLY: We look at the objects of two bizarre instances of nostalgic fascism: Sixpence None The Richer's “Kiss Me,” and Alien Ant Farm's cover of “Smooth Criminal.” Strong Men (Dawson) create good times (Dawson's Creek).
