Muthoni Muuo - Portfolio Manager CIC Asset Management on #DriveInn with #DavinaAndFareed by Capital FM
Hellen Muthoni Vostatkova is an experienced IT professional having worked across tech and change management programmes in Kenya, Southern Sudan, Germany and now the UK.In 2010 Hellen decided to further her education and relocated to Germany to study for a Masters in Distributed Systems Engineering. During this time she also pursued a passion for cloud computing and worked part time on some projects to build her experience in this area. She took a career break in 2012 to raise her son, during which time she completed her Masters, and the family relocated to London in 2016. Once she'd made the decision to return to work in 2018, Hellen found finding work difficult. She applied for a few roles but got nowhere and found the experience demoralising. As well as helping her husband establish his business at this time, she decided to increase her chances of returning to work by brushing up on her tech skills and building her transferable skills through volunteering. In 2021 she secured a place on the FDM returner programme and has continued to work as an IT consultant with FDM ever since. In our conversation, Hellen shares how she prepared practically for her return to work, getting ahead on family activities at the weekend and not overcommitting herself outside of work to help give her space to settle into her new role. “There's always new challenges, especially in the workplace and also at home as well….it's just trying to make that balance and to just keep going with the flow and adapting, making the best of the situation”.This is our last episode of 2022 – join us again on Wednesday 18 January for our next episode in this series.Subscribe for free on Apple Podcasts: https://apple.co/3v9INYzFollow for free on Spotify: https://spoti.fi/30rZZL6For advice, support, opportunities, and connection, see our Women Returners website: https://bit.ly/3eAhKQHFor details on the FDM returner programme, see here

You can't really talk about the literature space in Nairobi and not talk about Soma Nami...more than a bookstore, Wendy Njoroge and Muthoni Muiruri have managed to create a movement that champions African literature in all ways. This episode explores their incredible journey from idea to sensational realization of a dream...with a lot of laughs along the way.
In Kenya, the question of who, what and when the civil society started and evolved remains a contentious issue. The nature, scope and operations of the civil society tend to be bandied to the identity of the few known stalwarts while many key parts of the sector remain relatively obscure. And as Muthoni Wanyeki explains, these sins of omission and commissions take away interesting and insightful histories which need to be properly told.

Birth Mothers Amplified is co-hosted by friends and fellow birth mothers Muthoni and Emma. Most weeks they are joined by one or more birth mother guests to talk about adoption topics. Birth Mothers Amplified thrives on empowering the women who make adoptions possible and allowing birth parents to speak their truths and share their stories authentically. Lacy placed her daughter for adoption 14 years ago after realizing she would not be able to parent and provide her daughter with the life she deserved. Her journey has been full of ups and downs and everything she feels she has learned throughout it has shaped her into the woman and mother she is today. She chose to alter her post-adoption agreement from open to semi-open after experiencing how difficult it can be to navigate life without facing your emotions. Lacy was able to find support from other birth mothers to help heal and she is now active within the adoption community to try to give back to other members of the adoption triad. Lacy is now happily married to the birth father of her first daughter and they are parenting 3 children of their own together. Birth Mothers Amplified thrives on empowering the women who make adoptions possible and allowing birth parents to speak their truths and share their stories authentically. Katie's story has always been about adoption. Since she grew up as an adoptee in a closed adoption, she wrestled a lot with identity and worth. Her parents have always been supportive, but something deeply rooted in Katie couldn't settle down. Katie refers to herself as rebellious, letting others define her worth, and hurting. However, she was completely unaware that this was all from trauma due to loss and relinquishment. She always wondered about her birth family growing up, but didn't have the money to unseal records through the agency at 18-early 20's. Due to this, she decided to put a pin in her search for a while and ended up facing two unplanned pregnancies during that time frame. Her parents adopted her son and after facing her second unplanned pregnancy, Katie chose an agency the second time. Her story is complex, deep, and will give a perspective on what it is like to be an adoptee and a birth mother of two. She's a stay at home mom, so quarantining is nothing new to her. During her episode, Ana shares the joys and pains of becoming a mother after placing her son for adoption, how she came to her decision, what is was like making the decision to place, and the journey she has been on following placement. This week on Birth Mothers Amplified, we are so lucky to hear from Macy, a birth mother with a semi-open adoption relationship with her son. A little over 9 years ago, Macy found herself at an urgent care appointment with the shock of a lifetime finding out she was pregnant. She knew from the beginning of her pregnancy that she wanted to place her son for adoption and through a turn of events, found the family that she felt were supposed to be the parents for her child. Macy and the adoptive parents decided on a semi-closed adoption before her son was born so every six months she gets an email and pictures from the adoptive mother. Over the years Macy has succeeded in different ways she never thought she would have. Disclaimer: The Birth Mothers Amplified hosts are not licensed medical, legal, or counseling professionals. Katie has some incredible insight as she discusses what it is like to hit the 18 year mark post-placement with her son. She placed in 2002 as a 9th grader navigating a relationship with her boyfriend of 7 months at the time. She shares the raw emotions she still feels today as she recalls her teenage pregnancy as the emotions she feels now that her son is no longer a minor. Now despite religion in its current state having been hijacked, there is an emerging movement towards inclusivity. We unpack the taboo of sex and sexual pleasure in the backdrop of conservatism and religion. Let's meet the panellists: Tiffany Kagure Mugo is the intoxicatingly scary gatekeeper of HOLAAfrica, a Pan African queer womanist digital community dealing with sex and sexuality. She is a Ted speaker. podcast host and bad ass Board Member of FRIDA Fund as well as author of the book Quirky Quick Guide To Having Great Sex. David Ochara is a co-founder and lead pastor at the Cosmopolitan Affirming Community (CAC)- an LGBTIQ affirming religious fellowship in Kenya. Pastor David has a background in science with present interest in research and the intersections of gender, sexuality, and religion in contemporary African society. Kora Award winner Silayio is a performing and recording Kenyan artist, who has been working in and out of the country for the last 14 years. Silayio recently re-introduced herself to the scene with a stint on ‘The Voice Of Holland' where she finished 7th out of 110 contestants. Muthoni mantra is: MY MISSION IS TO SUPPORT MY CLIENTS BREAK FREE ROM LIMITING BELIEFS, PATTERNS & BEHAVIORS SO THAT THEY CAN LIVE A LIFE FILLED WITH JOY, FUN, PLEASURE & CONTENTMENT. And lastly our Moderator for this Panel is the ever so lovely Sunshine: A Nairobi-based radical writer dedicated to imagining freedom and universal access to systems of care for all. Her insightful dissections of pop-culture and it's intersection with cultural traditions that inform our daily lives serve as a reminder that unlearning, much like the struggle for freedom, is an ongoing journey. ---------- A L L C O N T E N T https://linktr.ee/karenkazlucas --------- P R O D U C E D B Y Karen kaz Lucas --------- B U S I N E S S I N Q U I R I E S For business inquiries, Email - host@thespreadpodcast.com kaz@kazentertainment.com ---------- F I N D U S Instagram -https://www.instagram.com/thespreadpod/ https://www.instagram.com/karenkazlucas/ Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/thespreadpod/ https://www.facebook.com/karenkazlucas/ Twitter - https://twitter.com/thespreadpod https://twitter.com/Karenkazlucas ---------- O U R G U E S T S: Sunshine - Tiff - @kagsmugo Muthoni @SAKINAHWELLNESS Silayio - @silayio_silayio Dave - @cac_ke ---------- P O D C A S T O F T H E W E E K: POSITIVELY AFRICAN - https://anchor.fm/positively-african/episodes/Full-Episode-1-The-Devil-is-in-the-Detail-ekd33r They create content and curate events that celebrate African stories and heritage.
