What started as individual interviews became something more—more clear and focused themes around cultural preservation, identity navigation, and evolving expressions of Caribbean-ness.I explore how these episodes other others from the podcast's catalog, show how storytelling, art, legacy, and even everyday conversations with our elders become vital acts of preservation. I also reflect on how my own relationship with Jamaican culture has evolved over the years, especially as a parent, and how we make room for both tradition and change. This episode is a love letter to 10 years of Carry On Friends, but more importantly, it's an invitation to explore where we're headed next—togetherSubscribe to the Newsletter Support How to Support Carry On Friends Join the Community:Sign up for one of our paid memberships to access "The After Show", early episode releases, exclusive content and connect with like-minded individuals. How can we achieve total systemic change? And are there politicians anywhere who are ready to make it happen (in a way that supports the continuation of complex life on this planet, not the scorched-earth destruction of the right)? The short answer is that yes, there are people deeply embedded in politics who know how dire things are and that we need urgent change. One of these is Natale Bennett, former Green Party leader and now Baroness Bennett of Manor Castle, one of two Green Party members of the UK's House of Lords. She is also the author of the book Change Everything: How We Can Rethink, Repair and Rebuild Society, which was published by UnBound in 2024.Her thesis is that what has been called political common sense over recent decades—that greed is good, inequality doesn't matter and we can keep treating the planet as a mine and a dumping ground—has been a recipe for disaster. The ideology of neoliberalism has delivered poverty and destruction, with a few benefiting while the rest of us pay. We need urgent change - and we have the routes to do it.  Many ideas and arguments in this book have been inspired by the people she has met around the UK. Every idea in it has been road-tested, honed by interaction. We can only get through this dangerous stage  by relying on the collective ingenuity, talents and creativity of millions of people, all empowered to “do politics”. This book aims to synthesise the voices Natalie has heard and read –and encourage them to step forward. They collectively represent true common sense. That's why she chose to publish it with Unbound using crowdfunding. You can order it through them, or it should be in your local bookstore. Natalie will be back in the autumn to discuss this in more detail, but in the meantime, we had a broad, deep conversation on the UK election - where it's going, where it could go and how each of us can help move a progressive, radical, thoughtful, compassionate, useful, climate-and-meta-crisis-aware agenda so that an incoming government will listen to us.  As she says, 'The Tories are Toast', but there's still a lot we can do to elect as many Green MPs as possible. It is a far cry from where it all began. Natalie was born in suburban Sydney to teenage parents and was the first in her family to go to university. After gaining a degree in Agricultural Science, she went on to have a successful career in journalism before moving into politics in 2006, and leading the Greens during the 2015 General Election.  In this episode of the Food Matters Live podcast, we learn more about Natalie's rise to the top of British politics, how a family tragedy had an “indelible” impact on her, why she is so driven to affect change in the world, and what she thinks needs to change in the food industry to ensure a more sustainable future.

On this week's News Roundtable episode, Chris Wright CBE is joined by Green Party peer and former leader Natalie Bennett, Liberal Democrat Councillor Jake Short, and Labour Councillor Frankie Leach. The conversation kicks off with a review of the coronation and constitution, discussing the police arrests of peaceful protesters. Turning to the local elections: we hear from representatives from Labour, the Liberal Democrats, and the Greens, who are jostling for Tory votes in the leadup to the general election. Will Labour have to go into a coalition to get into government? Will tactical voting come into play? The Greens are growing exponentially; the Lib Dems are back from the ruins of Nick Clegg's damaging time in coalition with the Tories. Does Labour have what it takes to secure a majority? This opens up the debate on whether we should have proportional representation, which would benefit the Greens and Lib Dems in particular, but would the gain in progressiveness be worth the risk of extremism? The panel discusses whether the electorate has become more or less progressive and remarks on the generational divide. Was Brexit a result of people for decades feeling their vote doesn't count?Chris takes the conversation to the Conservative's inflammatory populist political stance on immigration, which materialises into a discussion of each party's position on Brexit and Britain's relationship with Europe going forward.    Let us know your thoughts via our Twitter page!'I Hit The Nail Right On The Head' by Billy Bremner. © Fridens liljor/Micke Finell.Rock around the clock productions AB.www.rockaroundtheclock.co.ukCreated & produced by Podcast Partners: www.podcastpartners.comSign up to receive updates by email when a new episode drops at www.wrightonthenail.fmThis podcast is published by New Thinking: www.newthinking.com Explore New Thinking podcasts via our website: www.newthinking.com/podcasts

Should we go back to a world before civilisation? Looking for a link we mentioned? It's here: https://linktr.ee/philosophyforourtimesWith high rates of infanticide, senicide and disease, not many of us pine for the era before human civilization, farms and nations. Yet anthropologists Yuval Harari and Jared Diamond have called the agricultural revolution a"trap"and humanity's "worst mistake”, arguing hunter gatherer life was more leisurely and free, as humans were not tied down to private property or oppressed by hierarchy. Is there a way to keep the benefits of industry and technology while also living as freely as our untamed ancestors? Should we go further and rewild to escape the status, hierarchy and oppression of civilisation? Or is this an impossible fantasy born out of a misunderstanding of anthropology and the idealistic myth of the ‘noble savage'?Paleobiologist Mark Williams, Conservative former cabinet minister Peter Lilley and former leader of the Green Party Natalie Bennett weigh in on civilisation as we know it. Can our economic, social, and environmental systems work so that the most responsible choices we make are also the easiest, cheapest, and most obvious? Often when we are faced with environmental or social problems, we find that changing our own actions can initially feel satisfying, but this can sometimes lead to a feeling that the difference we are making has little impact on the wider issues that we were aiming to resolve. Should we hold out hope for a cumulative effect, or do we need the wider mechanics of our society to alter to engender meaningful change? Or is waiting for society to change a way of absolving personal responsibility? Natalie Bennett, former leader of the Green Party, explores these question in this Agile Rabbit talk, followed by questions and bar-room discussion and socialising.

So this weeks episode is one that has taken me by surprise. We've been lucky enough to be granted time with one of the most gracious and astute politicians Natalie Bennett, former leader of The Green Party. We've also been joined by a Limehouse favorite Dawn Barnes who once again makes insightful and emotional points that carry serious clout. Do you have a few minutes? Feel free to share the show and get in touch via the mediums of social entertainment things and wiggly bits... @limehousepod thelimehousepodcast@gmail.com www.facebook.com/thelimehousepodcast It's a funny old thing really, i've decided to probably cease the show, bring it to an end, rest it's bones on the podcast shore in August of this year. God willing i'll be a Dad by then and I feel that i'll want a rest from the show. It's miles away yet so i'll be striving to get amazing guests for you. Its a heads up really. I've found it quite hard doing the show, emotionally. The editing and graft is fine, it's the general wall of silence the show receives and although I don't expect hundreds of emails more than five in over a year would be good. It's also the unbelievable amount of competition out there which makes it frankly rather impossible to see exactly where this show can ever get a true growing audience. I'm proud so far of the conversations I've had and the panel discussions on top of that but I can't carry on doing this when I get no support from the people that listen to it, save for a handful of truly lovely people. Steve Little in particular, a man I haven't even met but one that shares the show and offers encouragement. A show has to be about the people that listen to it and i'm not sure i know who those people are. The total saturation of podcasts means that people move from show to show not really thinking about the effort and sacrifice that goes into bringing people rather great conversations. I work a full time job and bust my balls to get interviews and it really is starting to fee a little like a waste of time given the absolute nothing that greets me. I am aware of how that makes me sound but I feel like it is a rather human response. I have also been in the annoying position of believing people will help me, with the show, and all it leads to is nothing. I've learnt so much of what people say and what they actually do are two very separate things. Simple help and a sense of gratitude is also something I've never found. All most hosts ask for is the very basic in return as to be honest the entire industry is swamped by either NPR or BBC shows or celebrities turned podcasters. It's gutting to feel this way because I did feel not so long ago that this was something for the long term. I thank those of you that have been kind enough to support me and the show along the way. I won't be banging on about this every week, I just thought i'd get it out there now because it's been on my mind so much and it's been making me really miserable. Anyway, back to the weeding.

In 2016, Green sent their party leader, Natalie Bennett, to appear on Verbal Discharge...We've made thirty-eight episodes before now, and they've mostly been nonsense. This week that's probably especially true, but in the middle of it all we were honestly, really joined by the leader of Green Party, Natalie Bennett. She genuinely came on the show, and we quizzed her in typical Discharge fashion: Children's TV, flop-haired troglodytes, even a certain chancellor's particular recreational habits. This is probably the only time you'll ever hear an adult man try to goad a national party leader into doing a Daffy Duck impression. If that's not reason enough to listen, surely nothing is...We do have a few other things going on this week (Academies! Rap battles! Basketball! Jordan's remarkable Nigel Farage impression!), but I think you'll forgive us for being focused on the green, green guest of home.

Raising a child is said to be one of the most rewarding experiences anyone can hope for - watching a little human grow into adulthood, overcoming life's challenges and reaching important milestones. But, imagine if you were permanently denied this privilege on account of your sexual orientation? On what grounds should same sex couples be prohibited from raising children?  The Yardie Skeptics are yet again breaking new ground this Sunday, August 23rd at 12:30pm EDT (11:30am Jamaica time) as we do our first exposé on same sex parenting. What are some of the challenges same sex couples face when they decide to become parents? Do children raised in same sex households turn out as "normal" as other children? Joining us live on air will be one same sex couple - partners Christopher Inniss and Shelton Stroman - and three other same sex parents - Judith Williams, Natalie Bennett, and Nigel Simon to round out our full house on this discussion. Join us for this first ever exploration of the highs and lows of same sex parenting!

The seat’s been held by Labour’s Frank Dobson for more than 30 years but he’s now standing down. The constituency is on the Green’s list of its top 12 targets and Natalie Bennett says she’s going all out to win it. He’s a Barrister, specialising in Human Rights issues and was Director of Public Prosecutions for five years before leaving the post in 2013. Presenter John Waite recounts his most memorable moments during his 30 years on the frontline of investigative journalism. The Green Party was hoping to launch their election campaign in a blaze of positive publicity earlier this week. But after leader Natalie Bennett experienced what she called an "excruciating mind blank" in an interview, the story took a very different direction. The BBC ran the story throughout the day - but was this too much coverage of Bennett's 'brain fade' at the expense of serious analysis of party policy? Katy Searle, the Editor of Political Newsgathering for BBC News, explains why the story deserved its airtime and place on the news agenda. And while the rest of the BBC is giving up on broadcasting children's radio, BBC Radio Cymru has launched Tic Toc, a new programme aimed at a younger audience. Can Radio Cymru find success where others have failed? Head of Radio Cymru, Betsan Powys, explains what makes her venture different. Producer: Will Yates A Whistledown production for BBC Radio 4.

What's the deal with "moderate" Christians? They distance themselves from the conservatives by claiming that they're not ideologically driven and instead support liberalism, but enable the fundamentalists by either keeping silent or failing to push back against Christian hegemony. You will never see them engage in acts of public buffoonery such as "love marches", but they hardly command any consistent intellectual real estate in public or social media. So, what is really the purpose behind calling oneself a moderate Christian? Do they only "moderately" support the batshit crazy ideas of the Christian left, or are they entirely secularists in their ideological outlook? On this episode we turn the spotlight on the moderate/progressive Christians. Joining us live Natalie Bennett who describes herself as a Christian but one who does not support all of the ideas, Sharon Stephenson who is a moderate Christian, and Postmodernnegro, who describes himself as a "Christian anarchist."
