Original Date: February 8, 2016If you haven't listened to last week's episode #455, make sure to do so BEFORE you check out this week's brand new show. Your friends in podcasting pick up where they left off as both Dean and Phil will reveal their Top Four favorite television series of 2015 (10 thru 5 were counted down last week). After that, Phil explains why he is so thrilled about the sequel to Blade Runner that is finally going before the cameras this summer, and in “Celebrity Deaths” one of the most important entertainment figures in Asia and a beloved American character actor are both remembered. Dean and Phil then tackle Hollywood's award season, including analysis of the Producers Guild and Screen Actors Guild Awards, before launching into the LATEST controversy over the Oscars' lack of diversity (#oscarsowhite). Boycotts generate headlines, membership changes … change the membership. Real change, however, might involve actually changing the awards themselves and your friends in podcasting have some serious ideas in this regard, changes that will reward those unsung in the business for too long, refocus the purpose of the awards AND might just lead to greater diversity. That's all this week on YOUR Chillpak Hollywood Hour.
On February 28, 2021, The 78th Golden Globe Awards aired on television. Many of the nominees and winners were somewhat controversial because it seemed diverse on the surface, but was it really? On March 15, the 93rd Academy Awards had a slightly more diverse group of nominees, echoing the same issues from the 2015 #OscarSoWhite movement of awareness started by April Reign. There are spoilers for Moxie and Sound of Metal in this episode. Academy Awards 92nd will air on 9 Ferbruary 2020in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide. In 2018 Oscars were the lowest on record, and a 20 percent drop from the year before. Fingers of blame point in various directions — from changing TV habits to unpopular nominees, and — of course — celebrity politics. Year after year, audience surveys and focus groups show that celebrity homilies are the aspect viewers most dislike about awards shows. Advertisers and broadcasters worry about activist moments, too, concerned that many people at home will change the channel. Ratings for most awards shows have steadily declined over the last decade. There are several reasons for this; the increased infusion of politics no doubt contributes. In this episode, we will talks all about this event and then we will predict who will win in this party. ------------------------------------- Here is The Nominees: https://oscar.go.com/news/nominations/oscar-nominations-2020-list-nominees-by-category --- This episode is sponsored by · Anchor: The easiest way to make a podcast. https://anchor.fm/app --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/gabutalks/message
Kirk Minihane is delighting in the cheating scandal surrounding Alex Cora and the Boston Red Sox. The story has everything: media corruption, watching an old enemy flail, and frauds embarrassing themselves. April Reign, the creator of the #OscarSoWhite movement, joins the show to talk about the lack of racial and gender diversity among the Oscar nominees (00:54:30). Boston Mayor Marty Walsh did an interview yesterday on WBUR, but his safe space was interrupted by a couple of prank callers (01:16:26). No fanboys are more inconsolable over the Red Sox news than Jared Carrabis' crew on the Section 10 podcast. Near the end of the show, Kirk stumbles onto perhaps the greatest conspiracy in American history, and subsequently learns that Blind Mike doesn't know how geography and time zones work (01:50:00).
First October 2019 episode of the program all about TV. Our guest: April Reign, founder/organizer of the #OscarSoWhite movement.
This week Geraldo is talking about the dramatic change in the Academy Awards over the last several years from the #OscarSoWhite controversy to now a more integrated ceremony and nominees that reflect the point of view of the audiences the industry seeks to serve. He also talks about the good and bad things, in Geraldo's eyes, that Spike Lee said in his acceptance speech and the controversy of the Best Picture winner, Green Book.
As a child, Christy Haubegger knew what she wanted to be when she grew up: a boss. As the founder of the iconic Latina magazine, a film producer, and now an agent at one of the most powerful talent agencies in Hollywood, Creative Artists Agency, Christy is more than a boss; she's a force to be reckoned with. Born to a Mexican-American mother, and then adopted and raised by non-Latino parents, Christy talks about her unique take on the shared struggle of existing between cultures, the merits of a white sense of entitlement, and why impact is more important than money or titles.Love the show? While hardly a new problem in the media landscape, issues of representation both in front and behind screen have reached new peaks in the cultural discourse through campaigns like #OscarsSoWhite. But what does the path forward look like? Kristen Warner, a scholar of media industries, brings her unique research to the podcast to look at issues of colorblind casting and what she calls "plastic representation." Kristen and Peter look at a number of televisual milieus in which representational politics play out on our screens, and Kristen challenges a lot of issues to ask when real authentic people of color actually appear. Finally, the two discuss Magic Mike XXL, one of the most unique films of the last decade and a rare site where people of color have been in some way given their space. Kristen explains how a film with a white director and almost all-white cast somehow envisions a utopic vision of diverse American culture. 0:00-4:16 Opening5:48-11:46 Establishing Shots — Bill Hader and Barry12:32-48:40 Deep Focus — Kristen Warner49:39-52:28 Sponsorship Section53:40-1:06:08 Double Exposure — Magic Mike XXL (Gregory Jacobs)1:06:49-1:08:41 Close

Episode 10: Rico along with Brian Shaw discuss mastering the art of acting and playing the part. Brian shares his experiences as an up-and-coming actor. Would you ever play a gay role? How do you avoid being typecast? Later, Brian reacts to Samuel Jackson's comments about British actors, Kyle Jenner's Pepsi commercial and #OscarSoWhite. Lastly, Brian shared why he quit his job to pursue acting and the importance of following your dreams. He also dedicated this episode to the late, great Charlie Murphy. 'I leveled up mentally to just go with Plan A. I don't believe in having a Plan B.'
Bom Podcast!
Jay, aka Average Bro and the Uppity Negro chop it up this week about President Trump visiting the Smithsonian's African American History museum, some #OscarSoWhite speculations and the lackluster NBA All Star game. Somehow the two find themselves drilling down on the week that produced #HurtBae and some of the more wonkish parts of the two-party system moving forward and looking at mid-terms 2018.
It's that time of year again when Hollywood pats itself on the back and hopes you'll go see their movies. So Neil Rosen, Bill McCuddy, Bill Bregoli and guest Jack Rico give their fresh reactions on the Oscar nominations. It's no longer "Oscarsowhite," but is it really that diverse? What about "La La Land"? Is it really that good? Who got snubbed? It's not just Amy Adams. What happened to Pixar? And is all forgiven for Mel Gibson? Listen in and see.

Bom Podcast!

Join the Paradox team (Matthias, Jordan, Zach) and our guest and Washington Examiner Media Reporter Becket Adams for the 16th episode of the Paradox Project Podcast Terrible Opinions 00:00 - 21:00 Matthias - I would like to launch a "defense of assholes" in that just because someone act poorly to us does not mean that we should disregard everything they say. Zach - I like boxed wine and I think it gets a bad rap Becket - I really liked Trump's response to Ted Cruz's "New York Values" comment. It was real and thoughtful and powerful. Jordan - I don't like that conservatives have decided to jump into the #OscarSoWhite debate. They have nothing to win. Just stay out of it. Is the GOP Doomed? 21:00 - 41:00 With the National Review coming out against Donald Trump, is this going to tear the GOP apart? Matthias predicts Trump won't get the nomination and commits to shutting down his Twitter account if he does. Becket notes that the NR statement was about drawing a line in the sand and saying "We are against this" and building a coalition alternative. We then discuss the people in our family & social circles who, while not excited about Trump as a candidate, see him as an antidote to the part of the GOP that ignores or disregards them and what matters to them. Star Wars Predictions [SPOILERS: Highlight text below to read] 41:00 - 1:03:00 Becket predicted Han Solo would die in the The Force Awakens. Re-hashing his previous prediction on the nature and structure of the Star Wars narratives, he reviewed his prediction made before the release of the film and where he succeeded and where he fell short. There is much discussion about the future of the Star Wars narrative, specifically around Chewie's role in the next few films as well as Kylo Ren's interesting rage issues. Predictions 1:03:00 - 1:10:00 Matthias - In 6 weeks, the Dow will be lower than it is now. He is worried that we are at the beginning stages of a recession. Jordan - Nothing will happen between Trump and Megyn Kelly, but it will still be a big story. Zach - Keyword search is going away in the next 2 years (in part because it's so useless now
