Stāsta kino kritiķe, Rīgas Starptautiskā kino festivāla radošā direktore Sonora Broka Šādu apzīmējumu ieguvusi Holivudas ārzemju preses asociācijas ikgadējā “Zelta globusa” balvu pasniegšanas ceremonija, kurā tiek svinēti gan kino, gan televīzijas paši labākie. Mūsdienās “Zelta globusa” balvas tiek pasniegtas 27 kategorijās, ceremonija tiek translēta vairāk nekā 185 valstīs un teritorijās visā pasaulē. 2025. gada 5. janvārī notika jau 82. “Zelta globusa” ceremonija.

Hello Therese, we're back for our annual holiday extravaganza. This year we're movie-clubbing Todd Haynes' very luscious and very gay Carol (2015), starring Cate Blanchett, Rooney Mara, and Sarah Paulson. We discuss the erotic imagery of merely a glove, lesbian sex scenes through the lens of a gay man, and the joy in watching flat male characters (what even IS Jake Lacy's character's name?). All that Carol talk for you plus our reactions to the Golden Globe nominations, our dream casting of Da'Vine Joy Randolph and Emma Stone as Pearl Bailey and Carol Channing in a future film, and some Muppet talk. And then…we give you a solid ten minutes on our theory that gay men hate all gay male things while lesbians are much more accepting, our trip down memory lane to remember “lesbian kiss episodes” during November sweeps, the legacy of Roseanne, and Natalie Zea hunting down Kimberly Pierce for the Boys Don't Cry short she starred in! Anyway, happy holidays! Do you think Linda Perry and Sara Gilbert watched Carol together? On episode 188 of The AwardsWatch Podcast, AwardsWatch Executive Editor Ryan McQuade is joined by Editor-In-Chief Erik Anderson and AwardsWatch contributor Nicole Ackman to review Pixar's Elemental and take their first look at the 2024 Oscar Season. Before getting into the meat of this episode, big news out of Hollywood this past week as the Golden Globes were bought out by Dick Clark productions and the HFPA has been dispensed. It is a big revelation as the Globes are still in an ongoing struggle to move on from their checkered past. The team discuss what this could all mean going forward for this year's telecast as well as the future of their voting body. After that, they moved on to talk about this weekend's releases, with Nicole giving brief thoughts on WB's The Flash, and the group at large talking about Elemental, both which underperformed at the box office. While the DCEU seems to be crumbling before our very eyes with each new entry in the franchise, Pixar seems to be at a crossroads as Elemental received good reviews but had the lowest opening weekend box office returns in the studio's history. Part of it could be the film, or Pixar's recent decisions to put their films on Disney+. Either way, the team talk about what they liked and didn't like from the film and the studio's future. Usually when a Pixar film releases, this means we could talk about its Oscar chances or even potential win in the Best Animated Category. But since Elemental underwhelmed and Across the Spider-verse has exceeded expectations, it seems like we have our animated frontrunner that also has a small chance to get into Best Picture. Speak of that, since we are closing in at the halfway point of the year, and we are living in a post Cannes Film Festival world, the team take a look at the films that have been released so far that could make it into the Best Picture lineup, followed by the films this fall that they think will be the ones to look out for to win the Oscar's top prize. You can listen to The AwardsWatch Podcast wherever you stream podcasts, from iTunes, iHeartRadio, Soundcloud, Stitcher, Spotify, Audible, Amazon Music and more. This podcast runs 1h47m. We will be back next week to review Asteroid City and give out our Top 5 Wes Anderson films. Till then, let's get into it. Last year, the Golden Globe Awards were untelevised. This year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association chose comedian Jerrod Carmichael to emcee the proceedings. Carmichael started the ceremony by saying, “I'm here because I'm black.” Following a brief moment of silence to discomfort the audience, he continued, “This show, the Golden Globe Awards, did not air last year because the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, which I won't say were a racist organization, but they didn't have a single Black member until George Floyd died. So do with that information what you will.” In telling all this, Carmichael got one thing right: The HFPA did secure his role to have a black face present, but that was not the primary reason. In today's show, Jason will discuss the real reason and why no one in the mainstream media is talking about it. The key reason is because Jerrod Carmichael is part of the Alphabet Mafia. The HFPA has always been corrupt, and a decision to have a black face representing the LGBTQ community and "silent Ps" is a no-brainer investment in its eyes. “Fearless” soldier T.J. Moe joins Jason in the studio to discuss the pedophilia and perversion that run amok in dysfunctional families and communities. “Fearless” contributor Dave Shannon fans the flames after Jason's fiery take. The “Shemoke Show with Shemeka Michelle” continues the conversation between Jason, Shemeka, and T.J. on the "silent P" movement. The conversation gets even more interesting when “Fearless” contributor Steve Kim joins to talk about the release of the long-awaited footage of Odell Beckham Jr.'s airplane fiasco. In November 2022, Odell would not comply with airport security, resulting in everybody being booted off the airplane. Steve had a shocked response to this: “People get annoyed when you take off your shoes or sandals as you get onto a flight and board, but this guy took off his pants and was in his ‘chonies'? Really?" We want to hear from the Fearless Army!! Hollywood's award season officially kicked off last night with the Golden Globes, which returned from a controversial one-year absence after it was revealed that their voting body did not include a single Black member. But now they're back, and trying to prove that they've really changed their ways, by picking Jerrod Carmichael to host the festivities. Carmichael came out hot and directly addressed the racial elephant in the room, which had some of the audience squirming in their seats. But with an open bar and a loose vibe, the evening was packed with hilarious bits and emotional moments. This week's countdown to the 80th Golden Globes continues with Golden Globe winning actress Sharon Stone and a replay of when she sat down with HFPA journalist Silvia Bizio to discuss her life and career. Award Season is here! To kick it off, the Golden Globe nominations were announced yesterday. The ceremony will be broadcast once again in January after not being televised last year due to a boycott over claims of both payola and a disturbing lack of diversity. The Hollywood Foreign Press Association - the organization behind the Globes - promises that they are changing their ways. But that's debatable - the list of nominations for Best Film Director had no women on it. Adding to the controversy surrounding the Golden Globes will be one notable no-show… Best Actor nominee Brendan Fraser. He is boycotting the Globes over his claims that he was sexually assaulted by a former HFPA president. Our 80th Golden Globe Awards countdown continues with a replay of our recent conversation with Golden Globe winning actress and singer Kathleen Turner, who sat down with HFPA journalist Michele Manelis earlier this year to discuss her long career. They discuss her first nomination 40 years ago for Best New Star with her performance in Body Heat, her back to back Golden Globe wins as Best Actress, Comedy or Musical in 1985 for Romancing the Stone and 1986 for Prizzi's Honor, her other Golden Globe memories, and more.
Actor Gianni Russo sat down with HFPA journalist Silvia Bizio to discuss the 50th Anniversary of the seminal classic film The Godfather, which won five Golden Globe Awards off of seven nominations back in 1973. They also discuss Russo's incredible life, from his first meeting with Marlon Brando to spending a weekend with Marilyn Monroe to encountering Pablo Escobar, and more.

Continuing our countdown to the 80th Golden Globe Awards, today we're re-releasing our episode from 2018 where actress Michelle Yeoh sat down with HFPA journalist Scott Orlin to talk about her then-new movie Crazy Rich Asians, which was not only a box office smash hit, but also significant for being the first major Hollywood studio film in 25 years to feature a majority cast of Chinese descent while also being set in the modern era. They also discuss her upbringing, learning martial arts for film, working with Jackie Chan, being a Bond girl in Tomorrow Never Dies, a Captain on a Star Trek TV series, and much much more.
This week's Nose is energy unfocused, innovation hindered, hope strangled, greatness disguised. Taylor Swift currently occupies the entire top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
