May 21, 2026 - Discussing Memorial Day Weekend In The HamptonsMemorial Day weekend doesn't “start” in the Hamptons so much as it snaps on, like someone flipped a switch. One day you're watching empty beaches on the live cams, the next day the sand is full, the Village shops are open, and everyone is back on the East End. This week on the Happening in the Hamptons podcast, we discuss Memorial Day Weekend in the Hamptons to ground a practical conversation about the Hamptons real estate market, Hamptons rentals, and what the first big holiday weekend signals for the Summer season ahead. We're joined by East Hampton's own Sarah Minardi to talk local flavor and real community news, including the East Hampton school bond approval for a new indoor pool and field house with shared community use. We explore what many people want to know right now: Is it too late to find a summer rental? Sarah breaks down why the rental market is up year over year while inventory remains surprisingly active, thanks in part to homeowners who bought during COVID and are now putting their homes into the rental pool.We highlight two very different rental experiences, including a concierge-supported cottage next to the newly renovated Hedges Inn in East Hampton Village and a Montauk Hither Hills home built around ocean views and easy beach access. We explore the Hamptons Real Estate Market Report Q1 2026 from Saunders & Associates to run the weekly numbers, dig into Q1 trends where median prices rise while sales fall, and wrap with a Memorial Day weekend guide to events, food, and places worth getting excited about. In this episode of the UKMotorTalk Podcast we welcome back Jules McBride to update us on driving in the first two rounds of the Britcar Endurance Championship. Jules also introduces us to Elliott Fewster, 2025 BTRDA Junior Rallycross Champion and currently driving in the 750MC Swift Sport Challenge, who he is mentoring as part of the FIA's disability in motorsport programme. For more:https://ukmotortalk.co.uk/2026/05/podcast-elliot-fewster-2025-btrda-rallycross-junior-champion-with-jules-mcbride/AI Episode summaryTribute to Alex ZanardiThe episode begins with a somber tribute to Alex Zanardi, who passed away at the age of 59. The hosts and guests describe him as an "absolute legend" and a deeply inspiring figure in the world of motorsport. His death was reportedly linked to injuries sustained in a handcycle accident involving a lorry, a trauma from which he never fully recovered.Jim reflects on Zanardi's racing career, noting that while his Formula One stints—including periods with Williams, Lotus, Minardi, and Jordan—were somewhat unsuccessful, he truly "found his feet" in IndyCar. His aggressive and raw racing style was perfectly suited to that series, highlighted by his famous overtake at the "Corkscrew" at Laguna Seca.Beyond his professional racing, the group discusses Zanardi's incredible resilience following the accident that cost him both legs. He transformed his life, becoming a gold-medal-winning Paralympian and even finding success at Brands Hatch and in touring cars. Jim recalls meeting Zanardi, noting his "beaming smile" and infectious positive attitude. Even when asked about the fear of crashing again, Zanardi joked that it was now easier to reattach his legs since he carried a "spare pair" and a screwdriver in his van .Jules' Success at Oulton ParkThe focus then shifts to Jules' recent performance in Round Two at Oulton Park, which he considers his favorite UK track. Jules explains the technical challenges of his class, where he competes against Ginettas, McLarens, Astons, and Porsches. Because his car cannot match the cornering ability of some of these rivals, the series uses "Balance of Performance" (BoP) measures, such as adjusting pitstop times, to level the playing field.Jules credits his success to consistency and the "age-old adage" that to finish first, one must first finish. Unlike the "carnage" of Round One, the driving standards at Oulton Park were much improved. He describes a thrilling final 15 minutes of the race, scrapping "three abreast" into Cascades corner . A late safety car allowed his tires to cool, giving him the grip needed for a final push. He ultimately finished fourth overall and third in class, earning a podium and the "Driver of the Weekend" award.Racing with DyspraxiaA significant portion of the episode is dedicated to Elliott's experience racing with dyspraxia. He describes how the condition affects his coordination and processing speed, noting that it takes him longer to prioritize information. As a child, he was even scared of driving a manual car because he feared it would be too difficult, admitting he cried when he first tried at age 11.However, Elliott explains that once his helmet goes on, he enters a state of "hyperfocus". Everything else disappears, and he is entirely focused on the task at hand. Mike, who also has dyspraxia, shares a similar experience from a helicopter flight where intense concentration allowed him to overcome his usual coordination issues. Elliott notes that while he has to work harder than the "average" driver to process information, his success proves that it is possible to excel in motorsport with the condition. He cites Bobby Trundley as another successful driver with dyspraxia and autism. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Public input on Marathon development "A More Walkable Cold Spring" will be the focus of a public presentation to the Cold Spring board on March 10 to launch a planning process for the 12-acre Marathon property on Kemble Avenue, the village's largest undeveloped tract. The Kearney Group, which owns the property, has hired Jeff Speck, co-founder of Speck Dempsey, a Brookline, Massachusetts-based urban planning firm, to explain the fundamentals of pedestrian-oriented neighborhood design. "We don't have a lot of young people without children, and there aren't really affordable, entry-level houses in the village," Mayor Kathleen Foley noted at the Wednesday (Feb. 11) meeting of the Village Board. The Marathon parcel, formerly the site of a battery plant, is zoned for a mixed-use planned unit development. Foley said a series of charrettes will be held in April and June. The developer will then create an application for the Planning Board. Sidewalk grants Foley updated the board on the status of federal Transportation Alternatives Program grants to add sidewalks along the north end of Fair Street from Mayor's Park to Route 9D and along Morris Avenue/Route 9D at the northern border of the village. The sidewalks were extended on Fair Street from the municipal parking lot to Mayor's Park as part of the recently completed stormwater drainage repairs. Cold Spring owns a short stretch of Fair Street north of Mayor's Park to the village boundary. Putnam County owns Fair Street from there to Route 9D. The cost of the new Fair Street sidewalks is estimated at $2 million. The grant would pay 80 percent of the cost, with the remaining 20 percent paid by Cold Spring, which must show it has the capacity to fund the entire project, a requirement she described as "kind of bananas." Foley said Putnam County is willing to front the 80 percent and the Hudson Highlands Fjord Trail announced this week it would contribute the 20 percent local share. "We have had less luck on Route 9D," Foley said. State parks, HHFT, the state Department of Transportation and Putnam County have declined to cover 80 percent of the estimated $3 million cost. "We have a few Hail Mary asks out to some private organizations to see if they would loan the town the funds," Foley said. In other business … Village accountant Michelle Ascolillo reported that the cost of snow removal after the January storm was $68,000. In his monthly report, Robert Downey, the Highway Department crew chief, thanked Marc's Landscaping, Sal Pidala and Sons Excavating, Allen's Dumpster Service, Minardi's Excavation, Harold Lyons and Sons, Putnam County, Philipstown, the state Department of Transportation and state parks for their assistance in the aftermath. Matt Jackson, the officer-in-charge of the Cold Spring Police Department, reported that officers responded to 87 calls in January. The most frequent were alarms (12), assisting fire departments (8) and assisting local emergency medical services (8). There were also single calls for a domestic incident, a dispute, disorderly conduct and a person in crisis. Saturdays produced the most calls (22), followed by Fridays (18) and Wednesdays (15). He said Tuesdays produced the fewest calls (5). The Cold Spring Fire Co. answered 16 calls in January, including seven fire alarms, two assists to local EMS, two incidents of propane odor and single calls for a transformer fire, motor vehicle accident with injuries, mutual aid to North Highlands Fire Co., smoke in a structure and a pump out. Stephen Etta answered the most calls (14) with 20 volunteers responding to at least one call. The village said it will forward 16 cases of delinquent taxes, totaling $37,688, to Putnam County for collection.

Racing twice in 2002 with Minardi and once again three years later with BAR Honda in 2005, Anthony Davidson's Formula 1 career had a few false starts. But in 2007, he finally got a full-time shot with Super Aguri. Although his F1 career ended just over a year later, Anthony is rightly proud to have reached the top of motorsport. Speaking to Tom Clarkson, he discusses the ups and down of his time in F1 – telling us why he was a better test driver than racing driver, how his incredibly short-notice cameo at the 2005 Malaysian Grand Prix came about, why a groundhog cost him his best ever finish in F1, and what it was like to be involved in the so-called ‘Tyre War era' of Formula 1. Anthony also opens up about winning the World Endurance Championship with Sebastian Buemi in 2014 and why that meant so much to him having felt like ‘everything was lost' after F1. Now a simulator driver for Mercedes, Ant explains how much the sim technology has improved over time, what impact his work has on Mercedes' performance during race weekends and whether sim racing makes Max Verstappen a better driver. Formula 1 loves a feel-good story and the Minardi fairy-tale is no exception. They wrote one of the most heart-warming chapters in the sport's history. Mark Webber's fifth-place finish on his debut at the Australian Grand Prix in 2002 is one of many fond memories cherished by former team boss Paul Stoddart. A year earlier, Paul wasn't even sure they'd be quick enough to qualify for the first race. But his confidence in a 19 year-old Fernando Alonso was rewarded and the team started life in F1 much better than expected. Paul tells Tom Clarkson the moment he realised Alonso had what it takes to become a World Champion, why the Spaniard still has that burning desire to compete at the very top and how to be his best at Aston Martin. Paul also remembers Michael Schumacher's manners and the eye-opening time he lapped Ferrari's test track with the seven-time champion. Plus, how Max Verstappen's winning mentality was clear to see at a young age, when he raced his father Jos in a simulator.
