First up on today's show: The Seattle Torrent played their very first professional women’s hockey game on Friday night, but before they even had a name, we talked with their General Manager Meghan Turner about bringing the team to the city. Later, we’ll play an interview with the author of the literary mystery “Murder by the Book.” Finally, we’ll get a peek inside a Pow Wow through the lens of a kid who just wants to play his game! It's Hater Hour up in here! But not just one hater; Caroline's fiancé Justin is also joining the chat, and boy if he isn't a sassy baby. The two start out by discussing some of Justin's personal hates: the phrase “you're allowed to feel that way” and people's obsession with outer space. Then, a third hater joins: their cat, Whitley! They chat all about why they got the cat and what Whitley has meant to their lives so far.But wait, there's more! They dive into toxic patterns of people they used to date, feeling alive in relationships, and ideas about home renovations. And then some more complaints: air travel and lack of community. Are they all doom and gloom, though? You'll just have to see! Directed by Sky Hopinka, Powwow People allows the community tradition to tell its own story. Using a verite-style of filmmaking, Hopinka reveals the rhythms and relationships that anchor contemporary Native powwow culture. Using voiceovers sparingly, the beauty of the film stems from the cameras ability to simply hold still and celebrate the performers in all their glory. In this 1on1, we speak to Hopinka about balancing tradition with change and creating inclusive spaces.Powwow People premiered at TIFF '25.

One of the major events on the Nanticoke Indian Tribe's calendar is its annual Powwow. The 47th edition of the Powwow will be held Sept. 6 and 7 in Milton. But to bring the event to life again this year, the tribe needed some financial help, turning to the community to deliver $30,000 in needed funding - nearly half coming from a GoFundMe effort. In this edition of Enlighten Me, Delaware Public Media's Abigail Lee sits down with Avery Johnson, the chief of the Nanticoke Indian Tribe, to talk about the 47th annual powwow, the cultural significance of powwows and how community fundraising brought this year's event to the finish line.

August 23–24, 2025 – Great Falls, Montana hosts the Little Shell Powwow, a celebration of the Little Shell Tribe of Chippewa Indians' culture, heritage, and community. Dancers, drummers, elders, veterans, and visitors gather at 3300 6th Street NW for a weekend of songs, stories, and tradition. In this episode of We're No Damn Experts, organizer Toni Jo shares the meaning behind the powwow, the significance of honoring ancestors and veterans, and how regalia, music, and dance connect generations. Whether you are part of the tribe, a neighbor, or a respectful guest, the Little Shell Powwow welcomes all who wish to listen, learn, and celebrate.
Talk of what has happened, what we'd like to happen and what will probably happen. Answering questions and speculating wildly. Another episode of Pow Wow at your service.
